Saturday evening Links

So here in Manly Time, we’re headed into the 80’s for a while. The community pool opens today. Next week I’ll be in Glibs Gulch, where it’s in the 50s with at least five days of rain. I will never forgive WebDom for being born in a place with such crappy weather.

Links?

Now that’s a human characteristic.

Gay.

Looks like Freddy took a walk on the wild side.

They’ve been talking to my ex-wives.

The fat kid lost a boat.

Sorry for posting a tweet. If only there was a final solution to the question.

My shocked face is permanently broken.

Okay, that’s it for me. Time for some work in the garden. Peace out, Glibbies.

      Same. β€˜Tis broken.

The link is as acute as biden’s mind.

        Bingo.

What the hell is that supposed to mean?
        Who is confused?

        Good grief.

Digging through the replies it was up for two days until they β€œadded context”.

This is what I get for scanning the google nooz sports headlines

Danica Patrick said the most painful thing she’s ever experienced was her breakup with Aaron Rodgers in 2020.

During an appearance on β€œThe Sage Steele Show,” the former NASCAR driver said their β€œemotionally abusive” relationship β€œwore me down to nothing.”

    ——-

β€œSomeone that you know, people could never imagine that I would lack any confidence, or belief in the simple things about who I am. Everything was torn to bits. He leaves a trail of blood. I don’t think I’m saying too much earth-shattering stuff after we β€” there’s been enough out there.

β€œBut it gave me the greatest gift, which is myself. It gave me the greatest gift of how much I needed to show up for myself and take care of myself.”

An NFL quarterback is a self-absorbed narcissistic asshole? Say it ain’t so.

    • Aloysious

      Shorter version: I’m a victim!

  3. Sensei

    Interesting Freddie story! Thanks.

    • rhywun

I didn’t know he was into chicks.

I feel like I’ve been lied to all my life.

      • Sensei

I feel like it was intentional as he had crossover appeal to straight male hard rock fans.

For more homosexual acceptance and AIDs awareness and support.

      • kinnath

There was a quote I read (probably from a bandmate) that said Freddy used to show up with incredibly beautiful women. Then, one day, he started showing up with incredibly beautiful men. Apparently, he made a transition at some point in his career.

I can’t see the tweet. Oh well, I’m probably better off for it. I’ve put off doing the lawn for long enough. I guess I need to do that.

    • juris imprudent

Got ours done. I have some more weeding to do tomorrow.

    • Spudalicious

I spent a couple hours on the yard today. A bunch of weeding and finished putting my garden in.

Kennedy Center President Richard Grenell this week told the organization’s board of directors that, under the direction of recently departed president Debra Rutter, the group β€œfound $26 million in phantom revenue, fake revenue.”

It would be nice to know which firm was their auditor. Any organization of this size likely has one of the big accounting firms…

    • Sensei

The difference between the DW and WP.

      https://archive.fo/wjyOU

The budget was fiction. The financials no claim yet. They still may have intentionally mislead the BoD, but that’s not the same thing.

Sorry for posting a tweet. If only there was a final solution to the question.

  12. DEG

After just six months of marriage, previously healthy spouses showed significantly higher rates of depression, anxiety, and sleep problems if their partner had what researchers called the β€œdepression-anxiety phenotype” β€” essentially, someone dealing with both conditions simultaneously along with insomnia.

I smelled bullshit here. I continued reading. I see some caveats at the end which were basically what I was thinking.

    • Evan from Evansville

“…spouses showed significantly higher rates of depression, anxiety, and sleep problems if their partner had what researchers called the β€œdepression-anxiety phenotype…

Uh. Measured by what? Self-reporting? MRIs? Uh. Yeah. Self-reporting on how ya ‘feel.’ Same for “depression-anxiety phenotype” shit. Researchers finding what they want to find. It makes ’em feel so good.

    • Brochettaward

Didn’t read because I smell bullshit, but if it’s the kissing that does done it, why would it only spread after marriage and not before? Were these couples abstinent in every way before marriage?

  13. DEG

Okay, that’s it for me. Time for some work in the garden. Peace out, Glibbies.

    The music choice is good.

At least you can work in your garden. The rain here finally stopped today.

    • Spudalicious

Like I said above, 80s here, and I’m headed to cold and rain.

    • Spudalicious

I read that a few days ago. The kid still doesn’t get it. It’s him acting like his dad with no body of work to justify it.

    • Ted S.

Was it Dad’s idea to emblazon a draft room with the word “legendary”?

      • Tres Cool

Mental illness and delusions of grandeur.

        Legendary.

      • Tres Cool

*its a great workout song tho

      • Spudalicious

Did his dad tell him that was a bad idea?

  14. Mojeaux

    SPOILER WARNING:

I don’t know how many of you all have ever seen the original Lilo & Stitch, but I loved that movie, especially after I saw this post.

The relationship between the older sister (Nani) and the rambunctious little girl (Lilo) is so realistic, and Nani’s sacrifices to keep Lilo out of the system are no less than Herculean. For instance, Lilo gets in trouble AGAIN, causing Nani to lose ANOTHER job, but when Lilo asks if it was her fault, Nani tells her her coworkers were actually vampires. I’m talking UGLY CRYING IN THE THEATER here.

So they just released a “live-action” version (note the quotes). Apparently, Nani gives Lilo up to go to college, thereby negating EVERYTHING that made Nani such a wonderful character.

    Disney ruins everything it re/touches.

    • UnCivilServant

Nani gives Lilo up to go to college

Da Fuq? Does nobody at Disney actually like Disney movies? They seem to hate what made them.

      • Mojeaux

Communism is the death of art.

        Shut your whore mouth!

There’s lots and lots of lovely Soviet architecture! πŸ™„

Beauty is hope, and not only does communism offer no hope, it seeks to destroy the last vestiges any human ever had. You can’t demoralize a people that has pretty things to enjoy.

      • rhywun

        Holy crap that is heinous.

      • Evan from Evansville

To be fair, I love Soviet ‘realism’ art. Quite ironically, but not entirely so. I like the style the rigidity makes. Similar vein to Gothic, which is my favorite Euro style and period of architecture.

My Soviet-style posters from Vietnam and Vladivostok go together in my styling of them for household decor. I love it. Kinda an evil Wizard of Oz-vibe. The same feeling, but rigid and quite focused on military, industrial, agricultural, and interstellar pursuits in my collection. I find ’em striking. (Their mission? Accomplished.)

    • Evan from Evansville

Lilo & Stitch is a fantastic film. With their desire to make stories with female leads, that is by far the best Disney’s come up with, a young gal put in stress to defend her kooky soul-mate, her younger sis instead of a boyfriend, etc, and suck a lovely, devious little monster alien(!) to keep the youngins absorbed.

Legit. Stellar flick. I’m not pleased their re-doing or whatever it is they’re doin’ to it. Their humans aren’t creative? Nothing original? And I suppose their AI isn’t either, cuz.. I don’t think it’d be that hard to tell ’em to draft something up.

    • Gender Traitor

      Disney ruins everything it re/touches.

I’m trying to imagine how modern Disney would awkwardly attempt to “redeem” Song of the South with a remake…πŸ€”

      • Gender Traitor

Whoopi Goldberg as Aunt (“AHnt”) Rema, telling a little girl of indeterminate race stories about the strong female characters Sister Rabbit, Sister Fox, and Sister Bear…

      • rhywun

I thought I saw something last night and just reconfirmed it.

Disney is now co-producing woke nu Who – to its lowest number of viewers ever. LOL.

      • rhywun

        β€œAHnt”

I always wondered if that was a Southern thing that made its way north.

It’s not what I was taught.

      • Gender Traitor

Yeah, I had “ants” while my little black friends all had “ahnts.”

    • Urthona

This has been slightly exaggerated by right wing social media. Her sister has a portal gun and see her basically constantly, and those she stays with are closer family friends in the live action version.

Nevertheless, not a single live action Disney remake has been as well rated as the movie it’s copied. Not one.

So why bother giving in to this cynical cash grab? Rewatch the original in all cases.

      • Brochettaward

Doesn’t sound exaggerated to me. Disney doesn’t understand it’s own shit. That’s the point. They can still see each other, but that character was defined by her sacrifices for her sister. For some reason Disney thinks it’s more heroic for her to focus on herself now.

        Girl boss entitled bullshit.

  15. rhywun

a place with such crappy weather

To be fair, it is unusually grim this “spring”. It is usually quite delightful by now.

    • rhywun

Whoa two days without rain coming.

Then four more days of rain. JFC.

    • Spudalicious

Alfred has it’s own obnoxious microclimate.

      • rhywun

Ha never been. I am in Ithaca which is generally milder than areas around it so not so bad. Am reading that the current miserable pattern is the result of a late “nor’easter”.

      • DrOtto

I thought terms such as “norther” and “nor’easter” have been traded in and rebranded “polar vortex” and “atmospheric river” and such since those sound less colloquial and more frightening?

  16. Evan from Evansville

re: Kennedy Center — It all reminds me: Any fraud and wasteful spending, grifting or enriching discovered or plainly revealed will still be ignored by the Believers. It’s sad to witness a lite version of the demoralization Bezmenov described. The dyed-blue have invested too much of themselves into USAID, Democrats, blahblah, to think of questioning the nastiness that lies within. They’ll disbelieve every single bit showing them the fraud until they no longer can. (‘Til the boot’s on their balls.’)

Politics replaced religion in the West quite a while ago. The current factions are highly reminiscent of religious squabbles -and violence- in centuries or decades past. Humans be human, and history rhymes, but I do wish our puritanical progressives were less fucking.. boring. Damn self-flagellating ‘carbon neutral’ pussies. Indulgences for sale to off-set their dreadfully excessive carbon footprint. And paying off with such pride. Fucking. Pussies. History does rhyme. (*crosses fingers, hopes WWIII doesn’t hit me*)

    • Q Continuum

      NB: #3 is basically perfect.

      • Yusef drives a Kia

        2 and 5 are nice….

      • Evan from Evansville

You are not incorrect about #3. Personal favorite would be 10. Cutie.

I’ve been in many bunks, so no use retreating now.

      • rhywun

I rarely click these because reasons but #2 is clearly a bunny boiler.

Was it the Freddie Mercury story?

πŸ‘ That song was everywhere when I was a toddler; one of the earliest I can remember.

It’s funnier when Hayek responds at 3 in the morning. You’re fucking things up, Chafed.

Sorry. It’s been sometime since I’ve seen HS comment.

      • Brochettaward

I lit the signal. Now we wait.

Today was commencement at Big U so I hope and I pray that all the assholes are moving out tomorrow and I get another summer of quiet. There is some obvious celebration going on next door and I can put on some headphones and live with it because I have been there but fuuuuck enough already.

    • Brochettaward

I don’t know what those seconders are even celebrating. I Firsted. That’s something worth celebrating.

Good morning, Sean, Ted’S., Jarfy, and Teh Hype!

Had a little wine Friday evening, drunk from an unbreakable silicone cup from Duluth Trading, but this morning I think I’ll stick to iced mocha latte in my Glibertarians latte mug!
