Howdy, folks. All’s quiet here in Spudville, as we careen into July heat. Lush green lawns now have their tell tale brown spots that will go away in September. Time to go sit by the river.
Links?
But…socialism caused the $29 sandwich…
I need a wood chipper over here.
Couldn’t she just have boiled his bunny?
Okay, that’s it for me. Time for a cool, refreshing cocktail on the patio. Peace out, Glibbies.
Hey, at least it’s not a nursery rhyme.

I didn’t want to read that article anyway.
Afternoon, Glibs.
Just doing their jobs
Without identifying anyone by name, Roberts clearly referenced Republican President Donald Trump and Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York when he said he has felt compelled to issue public rebukes of figures in both parties in recent years.
“It becomes wrapped up in the political dispute that a judge who’s doing his or her job is part of the problem,” Roberts said at a gathering of lawyers and judges in Charlotte, North Carolina. “And the danger, of course, is somebody might pick up on that. And we have had, of course, serious threats of violence and murder of judges just simply for doing their work. So I think the political people on both sides of the aisle need to keep that in mind.”
Judges are fastidiously apolitical, and don’t you forget it. Now let’s have no more of this incendiary rhetoric or I’ll have you clapped in irons.
Sure use the tourist trap “Eataly” as the example for prices. Mind you in Manhattan the neighborhood deli sandwich is $11 all in after city and state taxes. A fancier sandwich at the same place is almost $15 all in.
I’m not sure I paid $29 for any of my meals when I was in NYC last summer, at least if you exclude drinks.
I think there is an age-old, easy solution for high sandwich prices…pack your Zorro lunchbox.
That’s what they are in Carmel. But Jimmy Johns is $11.50, Qdoba ’bout the same. But same in Indy. Isn’t that just how expensive fucking food (/everything) is everywhere?
Mind you: I’m small and purposefully plan on leftovers for every meal on the outside. Portions are fucking *big.* Cut spending, eh? Uh. Cut fucking eating!
Hrm. As for me, after that half sandwich, I’m now nibbling on: Salt ‘n vinegar pistachios, back n forth w Lucky Charms “Just Magical Mushrooms — NEW JUMBO RAINBOWS INSIDE!” (They were on sale for $2. Ev POUNCE!) They’re fingertip-sized and fucking obscenely tasty. Pro tip: Microwave a normal mushroom. They puff up all big! Then go all melty. Fun, tasty childhood ‘tradition’ I adored. <– I'm well-aware my love of marshmallows, and to occasionally over-partake, is a bit odd. On the other hand… uh.. Look at all y'all, and uh… other stuff!
I got robbed there recently for a plate of disgusting corned beef hash, greasy eggs, and fake orange juice. I have noticed that all the diners now are run by let’s just say recent arrivals who don’t give a flying fuck about quality.
Sorry that was supposed to be a new post!
So you unBrooksed it, who we gonna tell, your mom?
No prob the article was paywalled for me anyway.
Didn’t the Left have a word for it when Republicans were blocking (some of) the things Obama wanted to do? “Obstructionists”? I remember that word being thrown around a lot.
Any political party is going to blame the other party when they don’t get their way, it is how the game is played.
I am at the Rangers game. Definitely going extra innings. There is a guy on the Seattle team named Masturbatio.
I thought that was a Beavis and Butthead character.

There is a guy on the Seattle team named Masturbatio.
How Shakespearian.
Sure use the tourist trap “Eataly” as the example for prices.
Now tell us how outrageously expensive hamburgers are in NYC, based on the menu at 21.
NYC – I dont care. It is a self-solving problem.
Gun control….I can feel my face getting hot.
“Couldnt she have just boiled his bunny?” I am not so sure that is a she. Are you looking at those hands?
Also paywalled but I got a glimpse. That is either a dude or an AI construction.

I’m not terribly heartbroken that the Big Beautiful Bill might need to be broken up into smaller bills.
Holds envelope to forhead… PREDICTION!
All the decent parts will be stripped out, the crap will remain as a slightly less big bill and be passed, and the good parts will never see the light of day again.
Someone’s paying attention.
I’m so glad Trump is putting a stop to the Deep State.
🙄
I’m not terribly heartbroken that the Big Beautiful Bill might need to be broken up into smaller bills.
But people might find out what they’re voting on.
Potato song, huh. Didn’t know there was an unreleased Nirvana single.
Hey man nice shot.
(Actually about Bud Dwyer)
Shouldn’t be Spud Dwyer?
More winning?
Turnpike Stadium cost the city of Arlington $2M in 1965. The outfield was billboards….like a little league park.
The Steamer broke ground in 1992 and cost the city of Arlington $165M. Eminent domain justified the transfer of much private property to a consortium created to funnel cash to George W Bush so that they could in turn ensure continued access to that essential public good: professional baseball.
Senators Stadium III broke ground in 2017 and was funded in part by the city of Arlington to the tune of $325 million, but, sadly, W didn’t get his hands on any of that.
The new GE appliance plant will cost the state of Kentucky over $110M, so $140k per job.
Subsidies always work out for the taxpayer.

Today’s Best Walmart Occurrence: Was doing my thing and observed two ~65yo women shopping together. I see them signing instead of speaking to another. I’ve seen this several times at our store, so not out-of-the blue. I saw two sign-SHOUTING at each other from a distance a week ago, over-exaggerating so the viewer could better see ~25ft apart. The most memorable was when I saw a woman walking with cart, while looking at her Zoom counterpart as she signed the conversation out. So she was video signing-while-walking-shopping with whomever. That was something, I thought.
ANYWAY, today was a bit more. Me and those two deaf women intersected ~15 min later in the water bottle isle. One came up to me and politely signaled she needed help getting a 12-pack of water from ~6ft up. I asked out loud and with fingers how many they wanted, then retrieved the one she wanted. She signed to fully express it while saying, with her heavily-impaired accent, a simple “Thank you” to me. They were quite giddy, small curtsy-bow thingy and went on along. I had observed them for a bit but it was all rather cute. They were a bit reticent at first and were pleased I made it easy.
Today was rather special for several reasons, and they were distinctly noticed.
Cool
It’s nice when you can make someone’s day happier so easily.
Cooled off to 80 degrees here. But the dewpoint is 74. So……
83 and same dew point here; I finally gave up and turned on the AC.
Thanks for the edit, Spud!
Any time, brother.
Fuck sake, 120$ to see a band from the nose bleeds* I last saw front row center for 25$, this Trumpflation is outta control.
*ok it’s not really nose bleeds as the place only holds 300 people.
Good grief there is nobody worth that.
I’m worth it.
Meh, it’s a trade off, I budget one “show” a year. I could go to a blues festival and see a dozen acts over a weekend, with maybe one or two being exceptional, or I could go see this one (that I’m pretty sure will be great) at a small venue and make a night of it. and this one will be about half the cost of the weekend blues show, even with the Ubers and a hotel room.
Ah, that’s for 4 tickets, My apologies to Donny for blaming him for inflation.
Donnie definitely started the ball rolling on inflation with the Covid bucks, but if the dems tried hanging that on him, they would be admitting to economic truths that they can’t afford to admit to.
‘Ah, that’s for 4 tickets,:
Sounds like a fair price. Maybe more than fair.
Who ya seein’?

One of the soldiers who attended the muster was Sergeant Samuel Macdonald, a soldier who stood six feet ten inches tall and had a chest measuring 48 inches. The Countess of Sutherland, on seeing Sergeant Macdonald, donated a special allowance of 2 shillings 6 pence a day, and stated that anyone as large as Macdonald “must require more sustenance than his military pay can afford.”

I first read this as “some guy buns” and I thought, well this is an interesting plot twist.
Police are attempting to find the head of a man who was allegedly murdered and decapitated by his model and former reality television star girlfriend…
The article is behind a paywall, but I can tell from this first line that he broke the “Don’t Stick it in Crazy” rule.
Somehow I got past the paywall. He doesn’t quite look like the Instagram model type, given the grainy photo they had of the victim.
Weird story, they should probably so an autopsy. Guessing cause of death wasn’t his head being removed but something else.
Working on a negroni sbagliato that Neph brought up the other day. Yummy – I think I prefer this to the original.

The actual footnote:
1These foundational separation-of-powers principles are, of course, the
doctrinal underpinnings of the observations I make in Parts II and III,
infra. If my point is “difficult to pin down,” ante, at 22, that could be due
to the majority’s myopic initial framing—it casts today’s emergency applications as being solely about the scope of judicial authority, while ignoring (or forgetting) the concomitant expansion of executive power that
results when the equitable remedial power of judges is needlessly restricted. Or perhaps the culprit is the majority’s threshold decision to
rest its holding solely on the Judiciary Act, ante, at 5, n. 4, thereby facilitating its convenient sidestepping of the startling constitutional implications that follow from blanket limitations on the Judiciary’s response
to the Executive’s lawlessness. Whatever the source of the majority’s
confusion, there is no question that its statutory holding restricting the
traditional equitable power of federal courts to craft a suitable remedy
for established (or likely) constitutional violations has significant ramifications for the separation of powers and for constitutional rights more
broadly. JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR thoroughly explains why restricting judges
in this manner is legally and historically unfounded. My goal is to highlight the myriad ways in which the majority’s newly minted no-universal-injunctions limitation also subverts core constitutional norms and is
fundamentally incompatible with the rule of law.
So…she cites nothing but Sotomayer’s opinion to back-up her claim?
Sounds on brand.

Made my favorite tacos ever: White fish (marinated in lime juice, lime zest, olive oil, Tajin, salt, and pepper), red cabbage sliced as thin as possible, lime crema, fresh cilantro, and some Mexican-style chili oil, all wrapped up in yellow corn tortillas warmed up in a cast iron.

She’s super tarded. She should be getting special parking spots.
Meh, hypothetical situations are worth considering. What Jackson and the other dissenters don’t get is that everything is political, including the judiciary. If they overstep their bounds then the judiciary may be subject to political attack.
She couches the subject as a limit of judicial power, but really it is more of a question of who has what power within the judiciary. If I was a circuit court judge I’d be wondering why judges from other circuits can make rulings in my district.
Now, maybe the while idea of different districts is dumb, but that seems like a whole different issue.

Good morning, Beau! I hope your recovery from your hernia surgery (I hope I’m remembering that correctly) is proceeding apace!
Doing quite well, thanks!
Yes, hernia surgery. Pain free by 8 days post surgery! Much much better than expected. I see the surgeon on Wed for the first follow-up — presumably stitches removed from the 3 small incisions for the laparoscopic instruments.
