The Hat and The Hair Animated: Rerun ep 60

by | Jun 11, 2025 | Hat and Hair | 78 comments

So here is how I remember how things went down. FreedomToons is a popular youtube cartoon from a Catholic conservative. Me, being a Catholic libertarian (technically a Constitutional Property Rights Minarchist) cartoonist I thought I’d do some networking, so I messaged him on Twitter with a link to the cartoons. I never heard back from him. Then I saw this cartoon where he used real Trump and Biden audio, kinda my schtick. But, I chalked it up to just being a good idea someone else was likely to stumble upon (he implemented it poorly though). He continued to use real audio for a while and I didn’t care. Then I released episode 56, where I used this cheesy 80s style wireframe background. Shortly after he released a cartoon with a very similar background. So I did what anyone would do, I tweeted about it.

In retaliation I made this cartoon. After that he stopped using real audio. It could have all been a coincidence, and most likely was. I don’t care, I just wanted to play it up for the non-existent clicks. So anyway, here’s the cartoon.

    Update on protest in Tucson.

On the news just now, there’s a group of protestors (probably 75) in a parking lot off a pretty busy road. Some anti-ICE graffiti, and a couple of morons didn’t get the memo and are waving Mexican flags. So far sticking to the parking lot, because . . .

In an adjacent parking lot are a bunch of cops, giving every impression of hoping for an excuse.

Supposedly the real fun starts Saturday.

      • Akira

There’s supposed to be one of those dumb events in my town Saturday too. Last time like 5 people showed up, so that was funny.

      • Sean

I should top off some Pmags.

      • rhywun

Yeah, mine will probably be the same retired hippies that I saw protesting Trump’s Ivy League research cuts a couple weeks ago.

Too bad the college kids have mostly gone home for the summer.

Anyone else catch this shitshow last night during The Outage?

A game intended as a morale-boosting send-off before the USA take part in the CONCACAF Gold Cup unraveled in a disastrous first half that saw Switzerland 4-0 up after 36 minutes in Nashville.

And it’s not going to get any better with all the best ‘Mericans at the “Club World Cup” taking place at the same time and in the same country next week.

    WTF, FIFA?

    • rhywun

Dayum… only a couple years older than me?? Love, love that band.

      A favorite.

      • rhywun

lol Somebody changed “semen trail” to “sinful trail”.

I got into Belief 30 years after it was released. Amazing the holes you had in music back then. You missed an album here or there and now over a 1/4 of a century later you find out what you missed out on. Money was the reason for most of my holes in music catalogs.

I blew a shocking amount of student loan money on tapes and CDs.

I don’t know, real voice overs seems a natural application with probably many examples. The mesh thing… Maybe? Also not uncommon I would guess, perhaps the timing is a bit suspicious (cue meateater trivia vs Jeopardy!). How sure are you it’s, um, inspirational rather than coincidental?

I’m not sure if I believe in coincidences anymore. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love old Top Gear episodes.

The aughts were prime horsepower wars.

      • Timeloose

Bike HP wars were taking off then as well. Suzuki made the GSXR 1000 without any or minimal rider aids. 190hp and just over 400lbs wet.

        Scary as hell

Jimmy Dore has a whole conspiracy theory that Trump is in it with the deep state and the tech companies to build a surveillance state that will include everything from pre-crime to social credit scores. Ties it in with the assassination attempt on him and the lack of media interest in the suspect and yadayada.

I have my tinfoil on at all times. It’s a bit much to me. Trump being coopted by the establishment isn’t unbelievable to me, but I don’t believe these people are that clever to come up with some devious plan to manipulate the MAGA movement to build their fascist utopia. Far easier to just use the typical Dem or Republican stooge who is far more stable and reliable.

    • Brochettaward

The riots in LA are like the Reichstag Fire for all of this. I don’t think your standard garden variety riots in blue areas are really enough to get even MAGA crowd on board with all of this. It’s rather farfetched and convoluted, but for those interested:

Conspiracies can be a useful tool to help suss out the possible from the probable. A good example, I think, is the path of money from Gov. Dept. to NGO, NGO to activist group, to paid protestor. Five or ten years ago I would have been skeptical, today I just say that its obvious.

I try not to forget that sometimes things are just as they appear: DJT drives people bugnutty batshit fucking crazy.

And I have to add that those people that take Rachel Maddow seriously have worms in their heads.

This seems far more plausible to me than the whole Trump is going to implement a social credit score using AI tech dude bros at the behest of the deep state and they’re all in cahoots, personally.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Dore serves his purpose but he goes off the rails sometimes. For a true leftist, and that’s what he is, he’s fairly open-minded but the Palantir stuff does look fishy. If it was Obama or Biden pushing it the right would be losing their minds, rightfully so in my opinion, because if it integrates information effectively it can and will be used against them once the political winds change.

  6. Ownbestenemy

One thing I like working a graveyard shift is getting to hear Coast to Coast.

Was thinking that was probably my nexus to libertarian leaning. A show where information was just given, not discounted, thought out and respectively listened to.

Kind of a ‘huh, people have different views and I can decide to listen or not without calling them batshit insane!’

    • CPRM

My dad listened to Art Bell while he drove over the road, and when he shared that cooky world of Angels talking to people through radios and Art having to hide on his compound I was mesmerized.

    • Brochettaward

Youtube has a ton of old Art Bell that I listen to. I don’t think I could listen to his “successors” on Coast to Coast. On Ebay, you can get his entire back catalogue for like $30.

      • Ownbestenemy

George Noory aint bad but he doesnt push back like Bell did.

    Wake n bake, Glibs!

Not UNexcited for work to begin again so soon. Thrilled with long talk with MN Lady the other day. Seeds, sown. Fantabulous Uncle Weekend with my youngest nephew, the type memories are made from. He’s much more like me than his father, a beautiful conundrum in his brain.

Kick ass today, and it’s time for me to do the same. I just get the jump. (Dark drive should be further invigorating.)

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Jeez, that is bold. Just think of the documents and insider info you could get your hands on running something like that.

    • rhywun

lol Buy your own shredder for like twenty bucks, people.

So the pilots did mot kindly do the needful?

    • Sensei

“This is the first-ever hull loss involving a Boeing 787 since its entry into service in 2011”

I wondered about that. this aircraft didn’t have the best start as a bunch of JAL airplanes had lithium (naturally) battery fire issues that Boeing never actually found a root cause for. Instead they built a battery box around the battery that vents it in the case of fire.

      • Gender Traitor

Good morning, U! How’s it going?

      • UnCivilServant

I’m not sure yet, I’m in that ‘just woke up’ stage.

    • Beau Knott

      Hey, welcome to Lansing!
If you’re into BBQ, check out Meat/Carnivore Cafe in Old Town. Saddleback is supposed to be good as well.
Fleetwood Diner on S. Cedar is a kind of dive diner, but not a bad place.
Too many of the good mid-range places in town are gone, sadly.

      • Gender Traitor

        Good morning, Beau!

      • Beau Knott

Mornin’ GT! And to the rest of you as well!

  9. Ted S.

Listening to naked bias in a foreign language is *interesting*.

    • Ted S.

Two stories from ÖRF (Austria). First was one about the school shooting in Graz where they were bitching about the Media for the Icky Class sensationalizing the coverage, with the new-to-me German term »Rechtextremistische Verschwörungskanäle« (extreme right-wing conspiracy channels) to describe the wrongthinkers.

      • Ted S.

That term just sounds extra unhinged to me.

      • UnCivilServant

It could be more German – if they managed to compound the two words into a single entry.

      • Ted S.

I suppose, but something like “rechtpopulistisch” doesn’t sound crazy to me.

      • Tres Cool

        Like “ minoritetsladningsbærerdiffusjonskoeffisientmålingsapparatur” ?

      • Ted S.

The story also gave the same vibe as any of the stories from establishment media using the term “fake news”: we’re honest because we say so, and why don’t you unwashed idiots like us?

      • Gender Traitor

::imagines that the German word for “Bingo” requires the card to have at least a 12 x 12 grid::

      • Ted S.

If you like big buns, it’s no surprise you like big words, too.

    • Ted S.

They then pivoted to a story about the unrest in LA, and actually used the term “mostly peaceful protests”. And, of course, only lip service to the idea that illegal immigrants are a problem that needs to be handled.

      • Gender Traitor

Okay, I have to ask – what’s the German word for “mostly peaceful protests”?

      • Ted S.

        Überwiegend friedlich gelaufene Proteste.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

The argument that gets me is that most of LA is going about their business and things are normal, the violence is isolated to a relatively small area. Using that line of thought nothing, even war, is an issue because it only effects a given area on a given day. If you’re caught up in it and your business is being burned down it’s a big deal.

    Good morning!

Got my assignment for handgun nats. I’ll need to keep my head on a swivel — they put two people on my crew to evaluate me. Possibly three, but I don’t mind the third guy since he’s an excellent worker and has fun stories about his time deployed in Afghanistan… as a Soviet conscript.

      • Not Adahn

My “mentor” who I will say nothing bad about until I have the red jersey in my hands shares the name of a LP presidential candidate. There’s another RMI (Range Master Instructor) working the stage next to me who share a name with a country singer.

      • Chipping Pioneer

        Jo Jorgensen?

      • Chipping Pioneer

        Beyonce?

      • Not Adahn

Close. The country music singer shares a name with at least three POTUSs.

    • Grummun

NA, when is the shoot in Marengo? Will you be working?

      • Not Adahn

Yup, I’ll be working. I’m shooting it 6/25 and 6/26, with the working/auditioning being 6/27-6/29.

    • Grumbletarian

      A+
