The Hat and The Hair Animated: Rerun ep 63

My Senior Quote for Yearbook was supposed to be “I Love To Eat Chinese, But I Won’t Touch The Food”. The perverted faculty advisor thought it had some kind of sexual connotation so I wasn’t allowed to use it.

Long pork is the best pork.

    • Sensei

I’m on vacation with the family this week. I can tell you I had a really good pork pork osso bucco for dinner tonight. Might be a first for me using pork shank instead of veal.

    • Grummun

We made these tonight. Cheated and used store puff pastry. Damn they tasty.

Why does the judge sound like The Hair?

      …
      No reason.

Why am I comparing and contrasting a meme dance video with an informative video?

You made the mistake of following YouTube links from Glibs?

Day 8 of vacation and I have to contact the bank to ensure Elon didn’t shut off my travel card so I can go to Jersey in a couple of weeks for a nonsense class. Really…really nonsense. We are moving from Unix (Solaris 10) to Linux (RHEL). I am going to sit through 4 days of training on the difference between vi and nano

    • rhywun

I spend too many hours at work dealing with Yet Another Update. Sometimes I feel like I’d rather be delivering value but oh well.

      • Ownbestenemy

I already saw the material for this class. “The button that used to be on the left, is now on the right”. This is training given to GS-14 equivalents (we aren’t on the GS scale in the FAA). Senior techs being hand held on UI differences.

    • UnCivilServant

waitwaitwaitwait – Why nano? That’s a piece of garbage. RHEL has vim, which is close enough to vi.

      • rhywun

I am not even a Linux user but I know my way around vim. Nano? Not at all. Nobody uses it AFAIK.

      • Ownbestenemy

Its FedGov…what, you expect them to be relevant?

      • UnCivilServant

I expect only technical people to have access to the text editor on a *nix box. The clueless management can cause too much damage and can be placated with other ways of poking at their digital etch-a-sketch

    • slumbrew

I had a guy on a company Slack channel proclaiming “Unix and Linux are totally different – you won’t know anything about the other if you switch.”

I started to explain that wasn’t true, having worked with both over the years, and the core concepts are the same even if the tooling differs, but he was adamant.

I stopped myself from wasting more of my time when I realized my years of experience with SCO, SunOS, Solaris, a bit of AIX, SUSE, RedHat, Debian, Ubuntu and others didn’t count vs his day of fucking around with Solaris.

I assume he’s one of those “often wrong, never in doubt” people.

      • Ownbestenemy

Looking at the group chat…we have a lot of ‘often wrong, never in doubt’ people. Fly safe folks!

      • UnCivilServant

But… but… it’s a different syntax and the flags aren’t identical, plus the GUIs look nothing alike!

How long until dictionaries are revised to define “fascism” simply as “whatever Trump’s policies are?”

      • Akira

Surprised it hasn’t happened already, given that they’re calling him fascist for eliminating government departments (or talking about it, anyway).

      • Ted S.

Opposing “Everything for the state, nothing against the state, nothing outside the state” is fascist now?

    • Ownbestenemy

Well they pushed and lost, but felt it is/was their time to continue. We will have a Marxist/Communist leader in the next 10 years.

    • Brochettaward

My favorite is the private school product who opposes school choice.

        That’s normal for elite Dems.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, Sean, U, and Teh Hype! πŸ±β€πŸ‘€

      • UnCivilServant

        How’re πŸ±β€πŸ‘€’s ears doing?

      • Gender Traitor

Better, I think. He still shakes his head after we put in the ear drops, of course, but I don’t think he’s shaking his head as much the rest of the time.

I have to get to work half an hour earlier than usual today for a staff Zoom meeting. πŸ˜’ I think it’s about cybersecurity. I have a feeling the recent hack/ransomware attack on one of the local hospital systems has our IT folks – and my boss – a bit spooked.

      • Gender Traitor

        How are you?

      • UnCivilServant

After the work organizing my stories, I started reorganizing my collection of audiobooks. For some reason I kept at it to 1:30am or so, which is a bad idea for being wakeful during the day. The work is still in progress.

I’m trying to figure out the best option for this saturday. I’m still having trouble finding a good holster that fits me.

      • Ted S.

Our systems seem held together by duct tape, but IT insists there’s nothing wrong.

      • Gender Traitor

Good luck finding a holster! I’m sure you’ve either received or could receive good advice from the shooters here.

      • Gender Traitor

Ted’S., I’m pretty sure our IT folks are more worried about the people using our system than about the quality of the system itself.

      • UnCivilServant

Oh I get plenty of advice – whether I want it or not.

The problem is that they never listen. Not one of them listened to the reasons behind why I was doing things the way I was doing them, and what the problem with the unsolicited advice was.

Case in point – there were two who kept trying to tell me to wear my gun belt lower andtie it to my pants’ waistband. They would not listen to the two salient points that A: my gun belt was at the level of my pants waistband, and B: if I lowered that, my pants would fall off, even without the added weight of the gun belt, pistol, and ammo.

I’ve been hoping to get a thigh holster, but all the commercial ones I’ve found are made for people with a shorter belt-thigh distance than I have. I’ve made a strap to hold one of my regular holsters at the right height, but I don’t know if homemade equipment is even match legal, or if it would get me disqualified for improper equipment if I brought it.

      • UnCivilServant

*The advice on belt height was the result of a discussion about finding a holster placement that allows for a comfortable draw.

Northern Va. state senator seeks answers from Walmart concerning sexual health products

As Virginia customers of Walmart shop on the company’s website, shoppers are receiving a message telling them they need to provide consent for data collection to search for items including pregnancy tests, birth control items and even a baby registry.

“We passed a law saying you can’t do that without consent. You were supposed to stop doing that not require consent.”
Reminds me of the GDPR popups after that was passed.

    Spotsyltucky news:
Woman gets prison term for allowing gun access to children

A Spotsylvania woman was ordered Wednesday to serve seven months in prison for allowing her minor children access to guns.

The complainant told police that the older children were smoking and selling marijuana, while all of the children had access to firearms in the home.

Police recovered a Ring video that showed the 11-year-old pulling a gun from his pocket and waving it around for a few minutes. The 3-year-old girl was standing next to the back door in the area where the gun was being pointed.
