So, instead of listening to me, and going out and finding something fun to do, you’ve decided to come back here. Welcome back! There were some birthdays today, some sports stuff happened, and there’s trouble in the world around us. So let’s dance while it all burns.
Well… not “solely”.
Yes, LLMs are much smarter than several Supreme Court justices, I think we differ on which ones.
So it’s learned to, wait before clicking? I’m not exactly scared here, although learning things like that is beyond a significant number of end users.
It’s way to early to read this headline.
I’m not a fan of monopoly laws, but I’m also not a fan of the enshittification and lock in that Alphabet has been moving towards.
Yet another example of why SAAS (Software As A Service) is a terrible idea for end users.
No, they aren’t, because no where is.
Life imitates the third best Fallout game?
For the drink today, I present a variant on a drink that I dislike, and I also dislike, but it’s appropriate for the time.
Red Snapper
- 4 parts (2 oz.) Gin
- 8 parts (4 oz.) tomato Juice
- 1 part (0.5 oz) lemon juice
- 6 dashes hot sauce
- 4 dashes Worcestershire sauce
- Black pepper and celery salt (for rimming the glass)
- 1 lime wedge (also used for rimming the glass)
Mix your salt and pepper together on a small plate, rub the lip of a pint glass (inside and out) and press the glass into the salt/pepper mixture. Then, add the rest of the ingredients into a shaker with ice, and shake until chilled. Fill that pint glass with ice, and strain your drink into it. Garnish it with whatever deranged items you want, although celery and a lime wedge would be the standard. But we don’t care about standards here!
With that, I leave you to the rest of the day.

Cazadores suck. This is not the place for reality to converge with video games!
They’re not bad if you are heartless.
Don’t kink shame me.
Well, to be accurate, LLMs are as capable of formulating an argument from a forgone conclusion as all 9 Supreme Court justices.
*ding ding ding*
This one is the correct answer.
The thing is, Google got into its oligopolistic position because consumers are brain dead and chose enslavement, not because there was a dearth of choices at the start. That can no more be fixed with legislation than voters voting for the same shitty politicians and policies over and over and over again. You can’t fix stupid.
We choose the chains to bind us.
…choosing the form of our destroyer?
I am not sure picking someone that very publicly adopted ‘Do no evil’ as their slogan was a good idea.
I recently heard a bit by a comedian on Google and he started the bit with their slogan. The whole bit was gold. I didn’t catch who the comedian was but it was spot on.
Don’t be evil, Suthen. They knew they’d be doing it, they just didn’t want their employees to enjoy it.
I’m curious how long it will take for wrong speak to get you kicked off of the email server a guy has used for decades.
Get kicked off of FB, Messanger and your business page is nuked.
I wonder if I had starlink if it would have quit working when I was X banned?
Piss off G mail and your Android phone bricks?
The guy Microsoft booted should see if his XBox still works.
It’s coming.
It is coming. Say the wrong thing and lose everything from internet accounts to your ability to spend money. Welcome to Dystopiastan.
I’m not as corporate friendly as I once was and it’s primarily because of Google’s shenanigans. They do suck, no doubt.
Losing marketplace and my FB business account has sucked.
I’ve found new customers through it and bought and sold tens of thousands of dollars worth or stuff, lots of tools on marketplace.
I can’t wait for CBDCs that expire.
For me it’s the lying, lack of transparency, and the zero ability to get ahold of a real person.
If you do find a phone number for one of these companies you get on a phone tree that is a loop.
Much the same, although it was the general tech and finance environment during and after the Obama years what done it for me.
FB pretty much killed my business, with a nice assist from Covidiocy.
Not too surprising, only that it happened a bit quicker than I thought it would.
The Google that came to dominate the search engine business 20-odd years ago was a completely different application and business than the one we have today.
I miss typing in search parameters and getting the information I was looking for.
Now I’m ten pages down and can’t find anything.
Meh, yes and no. It’s an ad company. It’s always been an ad company. Its model has grown with the changing technological landscape and network build out in the same way that most oligopolistic companies end up with a high degree of vertical integration.
It is funny that dealing with Google is what AI is best at, as it can cut through the ad chaff to find the search wheat.
So true. Their steady decline over the last decade (roughly) was an invitation to get eaten by AI.
If there’s one thing the movie industry needs right now it’s another nostalgia cash grab ’80s franchise reboot with sterile, shitty CGI replacing what made the original endearing.
Pat gets it.
Yep, he is on fire this morning.
SciFi/Fantasy is a genre for exploring ideas. Make a good one that has something to say and you can be sure the sequel will have nothing to do with that, just actors dressed up in the costumes killing and fucking. We are still stuck in the monkey stage.
Can we at least get a deaged Phoebe Cates?
If I want to see Phoebe Cates at her physical peak, I’ll watch older movies, not some uncanny valley horripilation.
There is always one reason.
More like this,
Oh, you want to go that direction?
More this direction.
Im with Justine Bateman with this….its been done, come up with something original.
To be fair, Spielberg practically invented both bad sequels and CGI.
But we need a trans Gizmo so delusional people will feel included.
Understandable, since this is the first time anyone’s been shot in New York City.
Understandable, since this is the first time
anyone’sa managing director in the lobby of her company has been shot in New York City.Sure, but I mean… another NYC executive was just merc’d on the street 7 months ago. If anything it would probably be a lot easier in most cases to catch a capitalist fatcat walking to his town car, or mingling with the rabble on the subway. Thinking a glass door and a rent-a-cop was a force field against the general atmosphere of the city was probably always an illusion.
But you see the CEOs have armed security for the walk to the tow car. Inside the building they aren’t usually as close.
UH guy was a bit of an outlier there so they could pretend it wasn’t the same.
Maybe they’ll all start arming themselves and we’ll see epic upper west side shootouts between gangbangers, would-be assassins, and blue bloods on a regular basis.
The health insurance executive was from flyover country. He obviously doesn’t count for as much as a real New Yorker – probably around, what, 3/5ths?
Man, New York should consider some sort of gun control law!
This. Mexico did it and look how we’ll that worked out.
I probably mentioned before, I have a friend who managed personal security for the C-suite of a major European bank. His stories are fairly shocking. Some high-level business runners are substantially better protected than the US president. Some have no protection at all. It doesn’t seem to matter much how big they are or how much money they control.
Fun factoid – totally by accident I wound up buying gas (‘petrol’) in Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch in ’98.
Wouldn’t even have realized except for the (sadly now lost) receipt.
Wales is gloriously beautiful, and at least in ’98 and ’00, the people were lovely.
Prisoner fans owe it to themselves to stay a few nights in Portmeirion. Amazing place.
Well at least you didn’t welch on the bill.
That would have left him Owen someone
Portmeirion
Can’t be in Wales, the vowel to consonant ratio is nowhere near right.
Portmeirion

Guy knows how to just be normal in a ‘as normal can be’ politician way. Still a pol, but just shooting the shit is way better than whatever the dems are doing.
Right now, ’28 is his to lose. I’m going to bet that the D’s end up in the same rut that they were in during the Regan years, and it will take a total rethink of the party to get them out.
Just a reminder that only two VPs have successfully ascended directly to the presidency: Adams and Bush the elder. More ironically, they both served single terms, losing their re-election bids.
Went and saw Naked Gun. We treated Mrs OBEs dad to the movie for him to get out and have a laugh.
It was exactly what Naked Gun should be. Hats off to Seth MacFarlene for keeping it non-political and replete with dumb on-the-nose humor. And Pam Anderson is rocking her old age.
I have no intention of spending money to see, but glad to hear it.
So how’s Leslie Nielsen doing? Good I hope…
How is Liam Neeson in a comic role? It occurred to me to wonder if he got the gig just because “Liam Neeson” sounds somewhat similar to “Leslie Nielsen.”
Maybe he plans to follow Nielsen’s path and transition to comedic rolls.
I didn’t want to want to see it, but the OJ bit in the trailer kind of makes me want to see it. It looks like I’ll be seeing it after this short “review”. If the wife can be dragged to it.
Able to poke fun at himself throughout the film. Sprinkle in some family guy humor, but not overwhelming.
That’s encouraging. I was hoping this wouldn’t turn into another failed and sad reboot.
I met the star of the film last summer at Lake Oconee. He was near the lobby bar wearing a walking boot propped up on an ottoman. I found out later that he’d rolled an ankle shooting a scene, and had been shipped there for a few days of R&R.
Rather than fawn over him, I just went to the gift shop and got one of those mylar things with “Get Well Soon!” printed on it and the requisite shiny string, along with a small square of packing tape.
When I got back to him, I quickly affixed it to his boot. He looked up from his whiskey and asked “What’s this about?”
I told him “It’s a heal Liam balloon.”
For a guy in his seventies wearing a walking boot, he’s pretty damned spry, let me tell you. But I’m quicker. When it was clear that he couldn’t catch me, he shouted “I will find you. And I will kill you.”
This made me unreasonably happy.
There is a meth-head outside yelling obscenities at clouds – it must be time to get up and read some links.
Any interesting obscenities?
I mean do we know he’s a meth head, or is he speaking directly to god? Perhaps he’s just a reluctant prophet.
Invite him to Glibs. Sounds like one of us.
There’s been a few drifters, maybe it’s one of them trying to get back in.

Morning!
I knew Ted S. had poor taste in music. I didn’t know he had poor taste in football teams.
The person who sent Colbert down the road to perdition was Stephen Colbert.
Same is true for TOS. I might have warned them a time or two…with exactly the results I expected.
“There is nothing we do that AI and robots will not do better.” – that Musk dude. He is correct and it will happen faster than we think. How that plays out in the law…I have a pretty good idea.
Whut? This is news? It has been doing that for quite some time now.
Monopoly is bad, so bad that a hundred shitty companies is better than one. Look at….well, every product we buy. I can even make a case that no company at all is better than monopoly. This holds true in politics as well as economics.
……
Aaaaaand here is one reason I say that. Software as a service…fuck that.
Cut is out with the fucking unoriginal bullshit.
I have no opinion on cartoon beer.
Their offices are not safe. I dont think they understand that nor do they understand why.
Colbert was actually funny when he used to do his Bill O’Reilly schtick but he sold out and the supposed humor went in the toilet.
When was that?
I first heard of him around 2007 or 8. New guy in my unit had his book. Wouldn’t stop hacking about it soon have it a look.
Wasent funny.
I don’t understand what kind of content that vaccine dance was supposed to be. It wasn’t comedy; there were no jokes. It was technically a music-dance performance, but there doesn’t seem to be any talent or virtuosity on display.
It appears to be just groupthink reinforcement.
Tesla to pay $243M for deadly 2019 Florida Keys accident
Seems right in line with a typical wrongful death settlement related to a traffic accident 🙄️
Lawyers will be fed.
Why have insurance if compensation limits on the policy are not followed?
I can pretty much guarantee that Tesla is self-insured.
Policy limits just mean the insurance company won’t pay more than that. It doesn’t mean the insured won’t owe more than that.
I’m assuming the car was insured by the driver.
That should be the end of it.
Guy was on his phone. He’s liable.
“I’m assuming the car was insured by the driver.”
This was a product liability suit against Tesla. Car insurance got nothing to do with it.
“Guy was on his phone. He’s liable.”
You’re right that his negligence should be the end of it.
Why us “old people” lament the loss of BMW.
What is FjORD BLUE?
My parents somehow ended up with a direct import 3.0L like this:
https://car-from-uk.com/car_photos/full/2242/ebay276614.jpg.webp
But in that blue. Other than the speedo cards, the controls were in German, which was cool.
I regret not buying it from them.
Ugh, it hurts. I drove a ’21 X5 yesterday and HATED it. They nanny everything. The speedometer started flashing the speed limit sign at me when it perceived me speeding. Also, the heads up display glowed an angry red during the same event. Also, I was in a posted 35 in my neighborhood, not a 20mph zone, so fuck right off BMW. Then, it fought me trying to pull it onto my lift as it didn’t like the proximity of the posts, then when I finally got it on the lift, it’s nice to be able to open the door and verify I’m backing straight, another nope. Opening the door shifted it straight into park.
The speedometer started flashing the speed limit sign at me when it perceived me speeding.
My Lexus has that “feature”, aka bug. Thankfully I can turn it off and it stays off.
Err… I think I’m remembering the bug wrong.
I think it always showed the speed limit sign on the speedometer, and I think it turned red when you were speeding. It doesn’t really matter. It’s off and will stay off.
We used to lock up crazy people, FWIW.
Well, it is a true sentence.
Come to think of it Obama’s ‘this doesnt happen anywhere else’ is true as well. Any other place save one or two, if people had guns the way we do the place would turn into an ocean of blood inside of 24 hrs. No where else do you have an armed populace with as little violence as we do.
So we should arm the civilians of the rest of the world at the same percapita rate as we have here?
I like the sound of that.
So naturally, weather and disaster alerts will be cut so that “All Things Considered” can still be broadcast.
Not just Big Bird: Things to know about the Center for Public Broadcasting and its funding cuts
I don’t know how they do things in Maine, but my phone screams at me like a fucking banshee every time there’s 5 drops of rain or a kid gets kidnapped, and I haven’t tuned in to a public television or radio broadcast in around 18 years.
But flyover doesn’t have perfect reception.

Art Alexakis is pleased.
Its cause they are lying. We know it, they know it, and hoping the fear will cause an uproar
“Kid gets kidnapped” usually is actually a custody dispute in reality. Exactly what an Amber alert shouldn’t be.
That is just such an obvious lie, I can’t believe anyone, even residents of the Upper West Side, believes it.
Wasn’t there a spot on a jute box where you could pay and get a few moments of silence?
I’m glad my TV came with an off button.
My mother who leaves PBS on all day will be hardest hit.
The last time I took my kids to see her she rambled on about how bad it was they were getting cuts and that she has learned so much from watching PBS, ‘whales evolved from dinosaurs, it’s why they have a wish one’
No mom they didn’t.
Even PBS wouldn’t have gotten that one that wrong.
I hope.
Outside of baseball and maybe an old mystery movie, it doesn’t get turned on here.
The left gives a shit about “rural residents” for the first time in, what, a hundred years?
Tough shit.
In a couple of years people will realize this has made no difference in their lives whatsoever. They will forget all about it.
That number – 12% – is a lie.
State media and a free republic cannot both exist in the same place at the same time.

Or, and this might be a radical solution so hold on to your hats, these places can figure it out on their own! Develop their own resources, agriculture, water supplies, etc., and be self reliant!
Cold hearted bastard, don’t you know we have a sacred obligation to manage the affairs of these poor, benighted, inferior beings as compensation for our history of racist colonialism?
More blood on Trump’s hands.
Do better, The United States.
Tough shit.
My standard response to anyone trying to weaponize my empathy against me is still the same. Fuck those shivering puppies/starving children/old people in sack cloth and fuck you too. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

Holy Fuck do I hate the term “economic inequality”

‘Rock Star’ employees are never worth the money.
Why no, AI isn’t a bubble at all. Why do you ask?
Rudin, the leasing company that manages the building, did not respond to a query about when the building will reopen or whether new security measures will be implemented. No matter what, though, every workplace has vulnerabilities.
The entire building is shut down? That makes sense.
I doubt it. Maybe it’s employees only. But given trading operations I’m sure tenants have access.
Because supply will remain constant. JFC.
Repealing rule to curb greenhouse gas emissions will increase gas prices, Trump administration’s own analysis finds
Failing to subsidize electric vehicle purchases != “disincentiviz(ing) electric vehicle purchases.”
When the California refineries shut down this coming spring this will be reported on again as true.
But, but, but Trump is selling all the energy to Europe at a discount, ’cause they have a lot of white people and stuff.
Ok, here is the guy that deserves the biggest ‘FUCK YOU’ of all.
People cant be allowed to choose for themselves. If they do the electric car scam will collapse.

The Jaguar CEO is stepping down months after leading a controversial “woke” rebrand campaign for the auto company.
Jaguar Land Rover CEO Adrian Mardell is set to retire after three decades at the luxury car company and serving as CEO for three years, a spokesperson for the automaker announced on Thursday, Reuters reported.
——-
Jaguar defended the ad in a statement to FOX Business at the time.
“Our brand relaunch for Jaguar is a bold and imaginative reinvention and, as expected, it has attracted attention and debate. As proud custodians at such a remarkable point in Jaguar’s history, we have preserved iconic symbols while taking a dramatic leap forward. The brand reveal is only the first step in this exciting new era, and we look forward to sharing more on Jaguar’s transformation in the coming days and weeks,” it said.
It wasn’t woke. It was retarded.
6 of one, half a dozen of the other.
Embrace the power of “And?”
Bad timing is bad timing. Misreading the room is always a sign of a failure.
Bad timing, vacuum leaks and electrical woes are all on brand for Jaguar.
“It wasn’t woke. It was retarded.”
Please look up the definition for “redundant”.
That’s unfair to retarded people.
I went to a tap room round here and they have a stupid sour beer thing this weekend. who the fuck drinks this shit? what is a pastry sour? why is there a lambic is that a sour? I hate it.

at least theres one with lovage which is big in Romanian cuisine
I tried a sour once.
Once.
I love sours. Neph is a fan, I think.
In fact, I will be trying a new brewery tonight, and I am looking forward to the sours. They are the best thing going in summer.
I love sour ales. And I make great sour ales.
I cannot stand pastry sours. Some idiots dumps a bunch of lactose into a sour ale to make it sweet. They are horrible.
I’m generally not a big fan of dessert-themed beers either. If I wanted sugary alcohol, I’d get a pink zinfandel.
The taste zones of bitter/sour are great for exploring with beer.
I’m headed to HEB to grab me some Alamo shortly.
I like a good sour. Like everything, it’s a matter of balance.
The EPA said eliminating Biden-era policies, which encouraged higher fuel efficiency standards for cars and electric vehicle adoption to limit tailpipe emissions, would enable consumers to “have affordable choices when deciding to buy a car.”
Yes, all cars get 50mpg because that’s what the CAFE requirement is. But now we’ll be awash in gas guzzlers.
I’m swapping out the I4 in my sedan for a V12.

“encouraged higher fuel efficiency standards” I thought they were mandated. It’s the same kind of phrasing as, “We’re just asking the wealthy to pay a little more.” And what happens if they don’t?
In the EPA’s July analysis, the U.S. Energy Information Administration, which collects and analyzes energy data, showed Biden-era policies that were adopted by the end of 2024 would dramatically bring down the future cost of gasoline because more consumers would be driving electric vehicles, hybrids and fuel-efficient cars that require less gas.
It is challenging to predict the future gas prices because they’re subject to high uncertainty and market volatility, but under a future scenario where Biden-era policies have been revoked under the Trump administration, the EIA projects gasoline prices will continue to increase because of a higher demand for gas-powered cars and fuel.
According to our model…
I know, right?
Real
World analysis always ends up that people get a more fuel efficient car and simply drive more miles.
Scientists in South Africa are making rhino horns radioactive to fight poaching
The Firm – Radioactive
Excellent song.
The former administrator of the EIA, Joseph DeCarolis, explained in an email that if the government “disincentivizes electric vehicle purchases, more consumers will purchase gasoline vehicles resulting in higher gasoline consumption and high gasoline prices for everyone.”
“There’s a clear causal connection between rescinding measures promoting electric vehicles, such as EPA tailpipe standards, and the projection of higher gasoline prices,” he said.
Stalinist command economics works. Everybody knows that.
And be able to take longer trips with fewer stops, the convenience store end will suffer and need some subsidies, unless they jack up the prices.
Also need more traffic circles.
If economists use steady supply (or demand) as a parameter in their modeling they get retarded results.
Under Biden-era fuel efficiency policies, a new standard gas-powered car was expected to get 47.1 miles per gallon by 2027, and by 2035, cars were expected to achieve 61.2 mpg, according to EIA data.
Without the Biden policies, model 2027 cars are supposed to meet a 43.6 mpg standard and gradually increase to 50.5 mpg by 2035
Imaginary numbers are imaginary.
Good Lord. Nothing worth driving can do that.
My motorcycle can’t do that.
Granted it’s worth riding.
So you’re right.
We didn’t ban all ICE vehicles. We just banned practical ones.
Just like we all “expected” to be banging Miss America contestants and Q-worthy babes.
Wait. That’s not going to happen? Now I’m sad.
Nothing worth driving can do that.
My CRX got 50+ mpg sometimes.
Nothing worth driving built in the last 30 years can do that.
That reminds me. I haven’t seen a CRX in a long time. Used to be a guy at the local college that had a right had drive one back around 2011. Mayn’t the last one I saw in town regularly. They used to be common. Must rust bad.
What kills me is losing manual transmissions that can actually get better mileage – if you know how to drive – than automatics; all in the name of meeting the fucking CAFE standard.
CVT and 8 plus speed automatics that lock up in higher gears will beat a manual.
I’d rather drive a manual. But we’ve reached critical mass. Young people have little experience with them so low demand outside of niche fans.
Old people like automatics ’cause it’s so hard to remember which foot does what plus if it’s a upper case H or lower case.
Automatic only gives a person 2 options.
I’m sick of manuals.
But bring back the high beam switch on the floor and wing windows
Silicone Saturday will never be the same.

Hope you feel better.
You should go. It’ll keep it interesting.
Just wear a mask, make Fauci proud.
Light trucks and SUVs, beginning in model year 2027, under a scenario where Biden policies are revoked by the Trump administration, are set to reach fuel efficiency of 27.2 mpg and increase to 28.6 mpg by 2035. Had the Biden policies remained in place, SUVs and light trucks were expected to meet a 28.4 mpg standard in 2027 and increase to 46.2 mpg by 2035, according to EIA data.
I almost choked on my ginger snap. What a howler.

Those laws were made by old dead white guys.
They don’t apply.
Bravo, sir!

Hiring a conservative professor won’t do shit. These people are jihadists and hiring conservative professor would be as effective as hiring a Rabbi at a Hamas-run madrassa. There are whole areas of study dedicated to “deprogramming” people who have left cults and only that kind of effort could possibly be effective. I remember reading about an anti-terrorist school stood up somewhere in the ME for ex-ISIS members; IIRC it only had mixed success.
No. It won’t.
Boring, warmed over, century and a half old Marxism-Leninism. And I’m sure the danger hair brigade will arm up and take the revolution to the capitol any day now. They certainly wouldn’t be outnumbered and outgunned by about 30 to 1 once stepping 5 feet outside of Austin city limits.
Yes. And a lot of those people they want to kill have experienced real combat. That is a huge difference from shooting at targets on a range.

The disc golf world championships are under way in Finland this year. There was some big drama in the female pro division where 15 year old Iida Lehtomaki from Finland went on a tear and built up a commanding 11 stroke lead thru 15 holes during the 4th round. Then disaster struck on hole 16, a par 5 778 foot hole known as the “snake pit”. Lehtomaki threw 4 consecutive shots OB trying to land on an island green from 160 feet away( a chip shot for players at this level) and lost 8 strokes on this hole…. yikes! Skip to 8:18 and watch disaster unfold……

That is oddly specific.
Welcome to the party everyone!

Initially it’s infuriating for the “smart set” to finally come to third-grade level conclusions years (decades?) after they became obvious. Then I just realize it’s dumbass human shit being played out by the two-legged trash polluting this planet.
The best part of the article is this guy’s comment who wins the internet:
“It’s all a distraction. Nobody is paying attention to plate tectonics, which continue to increase Africa’s separation from the US. We must Do Something to combat this racist geology.”
Knowing nothing more about me than that I had once attended the same graduate program, Jane quickly found the occasion to shift our discussion away from mutual acquaintances and literature to politics. She reported being in Ireland on a 4th of July vacation but seeing nothing to celebrate because of the state of our country. When I suggested that this seemed a bit gloomy and asked what she thought was wrong with the United States, her response boiled down to conservatives. “What do we do about that?” I asked. “Blow up Texas, for a start,” Jane responded.
What this meant, according to her, was that Texas would be the ideal place for an armed progressive insurrection. It has a large number of gun-owning progressives who could capture both the University and the nearby Capitol building, kill the resident Republicans, and begin refashioning things. Greg Abbott was identified by name as the first to get a bullet. Trying to provide an off-ramp from this unsettling line of thought, I asked if this wouldn’t violate her convictions about inclusive treatment of people with disabilities. She responded that Abbott had screwed over so many people with disabilities that he had it coming (she used a more colorful word than screwed).
“Gov. Gavin Newsom is blaming President Donald Trump’s deployment of the California National Guard for a 57% decrease in the amount of fentanyl seized at the southern border.
The number of pounds of fentanyl dropped by that percentage between May and June during seizure operations by the California National Guard’s Counterdrug Task Force, the Governor’s Office said in a news release. In June, 260 pounds of fentanyl powder were seized.
Newsom said the decrease happened because National Guard troops were taken off their California tasks and assigned by Trump to guard federal facilities in Los Angeles….
National Guard members were taken away from their work fighting and preventing wildfires, Newsom told reporters at the Sacramento headquarters of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.”

So Democrats quadruple down.
Or, alternatively, maybe the actual rate of fentanyl smuggling dropped because the distributors got spooked or got deported as a result of the NG build up (certainly not a guarantee, but just as plausible in the absence of any actual analysis).
If true, then the price of fentanyl should have decreased. Did it?
“A former Alabama Department of Human Resources contractor has been charged with a felony after allegedly leaving a 3-year-old boy in her hot car, resulting in his death.
The Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office announced on Friday that it had issued a felony warrant for Kela Stanford, 54, over the July death of Ketorrius “KJ” Starkes Jr. Stanford was booked into jail just after 7 am on Friday, and was released a little over an hour later after posting $30,000 bond, per AL.com.”

Was he strapped in a child seat?
A 54 year old with a year old kid?
The 54 year old worked for Child Protection Services, and had the kid in her custody because the State was protecting the kid…
While not as quick as a French haircut I’m suggesting a chair in a tempered glass box lined with heating elements for public viewing.
The guillotine shoutout is appreciated.
It couldn’t come soon enough. What’s become obvious in recent years—thanks to the taste of it we got with the Biden administration—is that climate hysteria is one of the greatest threats to freedom in modern times. The more cynical of its promoters seized on it for that reason—as a justification for total power. If day-to-day human activity is causing the Earth to melt, government must control the day-to-day: what we drive, what we eat, what products we buy, what industries exist (and don’t), where we live. Anyone who disagrees with the regime’s reigning narrative—the collective requirement to address the “existential” threat—is branded the climate version of an “enemy of the people”: a “denier.” It’s corrosive.
Stalinist command economics. Proven effective.
I didnt read the articles, just headlines and a few paragraphs in.
Where did you get that quote?
“Lime-Green Dildo Thrown onto Court for the SECOND TIME in a Week at WNBA Game”
https://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2025/08/lime-green-dildo-thrown-onto-court-second-time/
LOLOL
Somebody is going to do one that’s black and all the talking heads will explain the racism.
For maximum effect it should be a very small black dildo.
That is one of the best ones yet
Ugh, that was a reply to Common Tater’s powerline link

That was a great set of memes this week.
I have to move a certain amount of mass a certain distance and I need to do it at a certain speed. That is going to require a fixed amount of energy.
Should I use hydrocarbons directly as my energy source or electricity generated from hydrocarbons? Which one should I choose if cost is a consideration? Take your time…think….
Electric cars are a scam. The scam, like all scams, was going to collapse sooner or later. Better now than later.
Headline: “EPA Seeks To Revoke Scientific Basis For Greenhouse Gas Rules”
Do journalism schools have a separate course track for bad faith arguments?
Yes, it is called ‘Journalism School’
Where did you get that quote?
That was from Q’s WSJ link.
Thank you.
So he decided to file an appeal, a process which later made him call Redmond “miserably incompetent in IT.”
Saying Microsoft is miserably incompetent is like saying the Sun rises in the East.
More people should know about LibreOffice. Microsoft would start to wither.
PSA: Mexi’s beer review should be showing up sometime around midnight US EDT. 😉
In fact, most manufacturers outside of Tesla are still selling EVs at a loss to recoup their initial investment in the technology.
Ponder that on the Tree of Woe.
I won’t even bother with a link. Popular Mechanics is apparently no longer a reliable source.
“selling EVs at a loss to recoup their initial investment”
I guess that makes no sense to me because I don’t have an MBA.
You need to Journalize this stuff.
If you have planned 10 year production cycle you would allocate the fixed costs and R&D over a 10 year period.
Assuming output ramps up in the out years this means the near years are going to have negative margin and the out years a positive margin.
It’s no different from any product with high upfront costs and long production. Problem if output doesn’t ramp up. Right now Tesla is basically the only manufacture close to the positive margin side of the curve.
Also the IRS and CPA guild makes it so you can accelerate the losses in the near years and carry them forward. You may wish to do this to offset taxes in other profitable portions of your business.
…because the government told them to.
Bold legal strategy
A coalition of 16 states and the District of Columbia sued the Trump administration Friday over what they describe as an “unconstitutional pressure campaign” to stop doctors and hospitals from providing gender-affirming care to transgender youth.
“The federal government is running a cruel and targeted harassment campaign against providers who offer lawful, lifesaving care to children,” New York Attorney General Letitia James wrote in a statement. “We will never stop fighting for the dignity, safety, and basic rights of the transgender community.”
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Massachusetts, argues the Trump administration is trying to effectuate a de facto national ban on gender-affirming care for youth, even though there’s no federal statute that prohibits the care.
Checkmate, Trump.
“…a de facto ban on…”
There are lots of things that do not have a federal statute prohibiting it, say… sticking hamsters up your ass, yet that doesnt mean we are required to subsidize it.
I guess not giving is taking strikes again.
What are the odds that New York Attorney General Letitia James has the slightest idea what gender-affirming care really is?
Stop. It.

I thought this was America!
Community Medical Center’s decision also hit hard for E’s family in Missoula. E’s daughter is transgender and about a year away from puberty. They had planned to start puberty blockers, and eventually use hormone replacement therapy.
NPR has agreed to identify E by her middle initial only because she worries about harassment and violence against her family.
It was hard to tell her daughter that the hospital had stopped treatment, E said.
“To her, it wasn’t even a thought [that] it wouldn’t happen. She was like, ‘I’m a girl, so when I go through puberty, I’m going through girl puberty,'” E said.
I should probably feel bad for laughing out loud at that, but fuck it.
E is obviously insane and suffers from an abusive and depraved homophobia and rigid gender stereotype fixation.
I had to read that more than once to figure out if the parents should be imprisoned for fucking up a little boy’s head or for fucking up a little girl’s head.
I am still not certain but I think it is a boy they are trying to mutilate.
This is the greatest evil I have seen born in western civilization in my lifetime. The eugenics movement is on par with it but not greater….oh wait, they are kind of the same thing, aren’t they.
Oh my, did she steal this witty bon mot from a Neil DeGrasse Tyson tweet?
In attempting to patch together a map of locations I call out in my books, I found this nifty API tool to mark locations and embed an interactive map into my site. Yes, I’m slow. Sue me.
It works! *Snoopy dance*
That looks neat.
And in today’s Labubu news:
https://nypost.com/2025/08/02/us-news/this-is-the-most-expensive-labubu-on-ebay/
First I am hearing of it.Ok. It’s their money.
Does “conventionally attractive” mean her waist measurement is less than her height?
Tape measures and math are worthless. Attractive is what your eye sees. Your brain is programmed to find maximum potential fecundity as attractive. Any sign of genetic defect is a turn off. This is the one case where our animal nature serves us well, or at least doesnt hurt us.
Sydney Sweeny is attractive because she screams ‘healthy offspring’. Same for all attractive people. That we had to ponder and scratch our heads forever about that is a bit ridiculous.
^^ What this dude said. Sigh. See also: Why hair products are universally liked by women around the world, regardless of culture. *Not* being mangy is unbelievably sexy, all things considered. And ill diet, malnutrition and more go after the weak links first — hair goes pretty fast, considering it’s the most expendable bits of us. And the Left tries to rewrite that. Simply, it’s kinda cuz they hate humanity. (I think most of them kinda don’t ‘realize’ that, truthfully.)
Signs of fecundity is the pinnacle of sexiness for women. Works for men as well, to a lesser extent, with status counting for a helluva lot.
I’ve long-added a Part b to our “Money and Power will always find each other” Iron Rule, helping ‘explain’ human behavior:
Money + Power leads to Status, the universal social currency of social primates.
Is not caring the same as not caught up in the hysteria? Beanie Babies, Cabbage Patch dolls, pet rocks, Barbies and whatever. I wish my mother hadn’t thrown out all my baseball cards when I left the household though. Those had meaning and statistics and stuff.
So I spent nearly six hours waiting for my car to get fixed.
It is now very quiet, even though that wasn’t one of the symptoms I went in to get fixed.
The delay came from them first putting on defective parts and then having to swap them again.
😑
The new parts will probably fail to – as I wager they’re cheap chinese crap instead of real parts.
I once went to the dealer to get a part for POS Envoy™. It was in the offical AC Delco box.
When I opened it, out came something made by Dorman- which is chinese junk. I dont know if thats current corporate policy or if someone returned it with the ol’ switcharoo.
The wings that steal you wallet.
That was likely a scumbag return.
I had a customer buy an AC Delco water pump for his Camaro because he didn’t want “cheap Chinese junk” he wasn’t pleased when I informed him I installed the “expensive Chinese junk” he bought.
That sounds annoying.
Very.
Ford place I use has a courtesy car to take the waiting customer to eat, shopping, etc, a call back gets the customer picked up. I take a book to read and find a quiet place.
