Seen recently…or thereabouts.
SugarFree is having the traps and home-defenses updated at the SugarLair, so I am filling in with the travel report from the last Glibs Gatheringing.
I shuffled over as SugarFree put his 1982 American Tourister suitcase in the back of my SUV.
“I TOLD you not to try every single thing Nephilium recommended at that whisky bar” he chided me.
“Just get in, we have a few hours of driving” I grumbled in return.
After a gas-and-lunch stop at a nearby Sheetz, we headed out. SugarFree was humming an odd little tune and making arcane gestures at the trucks we passed. This slightly alarmed me. But I figured it could be much worse. It got much worse.
About an hour and a half out from our destination, SugarFree reached over and turned off my Google Maps display.
“What the…?”
“Just keep going, I’ll tell you where to turn…left here.”
I swung the wheel over and we went down and increasingly rural and dilapidated road. SugarFree was humming louder and kept scratching his left elbow.
“Turn right here”
“I am not…AHHHH! What in Hell is HE doing here?” I was looking out the front windshield at STEVE SMITH, sitting in the middle of the country road, with an expensive looking backpack.

How said backpack was acquired
SugarFree shrugged. “STEVE said he was coming to the Gatheringing, so I told him we could pick him up on the way.”
“Are you @#$%ing serious?! I don’t want him anywhere near us!” I could tell I was turning quite red at this point.
“Too late, better unlock the door.” STEVE SMITH was waiting at the passenger side back door.
“HI CHEESE PERSON. HI SUGARFREE. STEVE SMITH GLAD YOU MAKE IT. HIM NOT HAVE LUCK HITCHHIKING.”
“Uh, sure, STEVE. Just make sure you fasten your seatbelt and don’t rape the headrests or anything.”
“CHEESE PERSON NO FUN. IS BROWN MAN HERE? STEVE SMITH LIKE BROWN MAN. AND HIM TINY DOG.”
“Uh, Mex will be joining us later. I don’t think he is bringing the tiny dog though.”
SugarFree handed STEVE SMITH a Sheetz Sub, “Here you go STEVE.”
“SUGARFREE IS NICE HOOMAN!” STEVE exclaimed as he pounded the sandwich in 15 seconds.
SugarFree was suppressing a grin and made a shushing motion toward me.
An hour down the road, I looked in the rearview mirror and saw STEVE Slightly swaying and grinning.
“What did you do?” I hissed at SugarFree.
“Just a few edibles in the sammich…OK, maybe a whole lot of them.”
“You did what?!”
“Just drive, this will keep him manageable until we arrive.”
Another hour later we pulled into town, at the Econolodge where we had reserved rooms.
STEVE SMITH slowly open the door and gently got out, slightly swaying.
A room door near us banged open and several Glibs came pouring out in a weed- fog and wine-fumed cloud.
“Hey, the party has already started” OMWC exclaimed. Several other Glibs cheered and someone slapped a bottle of Cab Franc into STEVE SMITH’s right hand.
…
It got a bit out of hand after a while. I am fairly certain once the police reports and the insurance adjuster’s survey are done, we will still be in the clear.
I don’t really want to talk about it.

Mexi’s poor little dog.
Should we start a Gofundme to cover the 7 figure therapy bill I assume comes from roadtripping with the rapesquatch and the envoy from the Eldritch Horrors? I don’t think raclette and whisky are going to fix this.

At least you didn’t hit us all up for bail.

There’s a shortage of sane judges these days. You’d probably get RoR-ed.
PA – Glibs – Sheetz or Wawa?
I didn’t get to experience Sheetz until my son went to Gettysburg College, but grew up with all the Wawa’s in NJ.
I am leery of shopping at a place with a name like “wawa”
It’s the best place to keep your toddler hydrated.
It’s right in the name!
“In the 1700s, people from Philadelphia and New Jersey settled Wawa due to the community’s abundance of water.”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wawa,_Pennsylvania
Wait, I’m not supposed to just soak them in a five gallon bucket until saturated?
That’s for pickling them, hence the common name for the bucket
Wawa
Me too.
Either is acceptable, but I think that WaWa generally has better sandwiches and cleaner restrooms.
It’s Bucee’s and Busy Bee down here. I prefer Busy Bee because it is not crowded to the gills.
WaWa.
Sheetz is only good for gas, the bathroom, and surcharge free ATMs. Yes, all of those are at WaWa too, but their country doesn’t overlap. The only times I’ve gotten food from Sheetz I’ve gotten sick, which has never happened at WaWa.
So, WaWa.
I’ve heard Wawa was moving into Ohio, which would leave us as a nexus with Wawa, Sheetz, GetGo (Giant Eagle), and Buc-ees.
All four must now muster their tribal forces and battle for supremacy, with the other three being driven from the State.
Sheetz is the only one of what I gather are the “Big 3” giant C-stores (the others being Wawa and Buc-ee’s) to have opened in the Dayton area, but the other two are hard on their heels. I’m thinking the C-store wars could get interesting around here.

I swear you bastards are pushing towards minarchism more every day. Ok, TBF I didn’t have far to go.
On the building permits from the last thread:
I walk into the accessor’s office in Cold Spring, Texas and ask “If I want to build a house here how do I get started? Permits? Requirements? Inspections?”
The accessor leaned his elbow on the counter and said ” Well, first…and this is important….go down the road about two miles *waives his hand vaguely in that direction* and you will see a lumber store. Buy your lumber. Next, and this is just as important, stop by the hardware store and get yourself a good carpenter’s hammer. While you are there pick up a big box of nails.” Then he gives me a big shit-eating grin.
“Thank you Sir. That is exactly what I needed to know. You have been very helpful. Have a wonderful day.”
That’s terrible advice.
You want a shovel to dig post holes so that you can get a level floor. That is assuming the ground is unsuitable for a basement. Then you’ll want cement for around those posts to help them not go anywhere. Then you can get to the framing with lumber.
Here in KY you can avoid most permit issues (in the county), unless it involves gas or electric.
If you’re in a town, then it can be significantly different.
But what about all the obviously occuring deaths from poor construction? I’m not reading about this in the news.
Twice during the redo of my roof, the code enforcement officer in his stupid little gray prius stopped by to inquire about permits, supposedly at the behest of some neghbor. We had all of our paperwork in order, but he just kept poking his obnoxious little nose in looking for an excuse to issue a citation.
I really hate that guy.
I hate your neighbor even more.
I’m not convinced there was a call.
JI: +1
Without the nosy busybodies, there wouldn’t be such a demand for or byzantine permit rules. While where I live has some tough enforcement, our neighboring town Shaker Heights takes the cake. They literally have people driving around the village looking for code violations.
Code enforcement in my home town used to be a part time city employee.
Colluding with the police (and no doubt their union) they made the position a full time police job.
Meh. they’ll let you build a structurally unsound residence without egress windows or smoke detectors* But they make up for it by outlawing businesses that are sexually orientated**. Nannies gonna get their nanny on, it’s universal.

I’ve… never thought of a sandwich that way before. And why did it take 15 seconds for STEVE to get to the pounding? No room in the back seat? What is Swiss driving, a Piëch?

These are not ordinary times. It’s not just that the Trump administration is taking actions that horrify and offend us. It’s that in just seven months, President Trump has all but dismantled a democratic system that took more than 200 years to build.
Lay off the sauce, lady.
Also, drop the SSRIs and hormonal contraceptive.

Democrats need to stop playing nice …
Kavanaugh and Romney would like a word with you. Those guys are both Quishes but the way the Democrats and media portrayed them was abhorrent.
Every Hitler is worse than the last.
If democrats actually did a bit of self reflection, they might understand that the treatment of Romney is part of how they got Trump (twice!). You may not like the man or his policies but he was a milktoast, deep state, stay the course Republican. By making him out to be uber woman-hater nazi racist, many on the right realized that Team Blue would do that to anybody. Many on the right also realized that they needed somebody that would punch back. And along comes Trump, who gives the finger to anybody calling him a racist, and suddenly a lot of so-called conservatives are willing to overlook Trump’s many many flaws.
I remember Maxine Waters screaming “He is guilty! He is guilty!”

The only “collaborating” I’ve seen is the DC mayor saying “yeah it is kind of nice that there’s less crime here”. Other than that, the author is living in a different world than we are.
He and his team have failed to comply with nearly a third of major judicial rulings against them. They have created heavily-armed goon squads that seize people off the streets without warrants or due process.
They have eliminated, intimidated or coerced into submission all the institutions — the free press, academia, the courts, independent inspectors general, regulators, scientific panels and data — that used to guard against corruption and abuse.
Lord have mercy, goon squads. Bless her heart.
Obama admin. supposedly deported 3 million. How did they round them up in those days without any mistakes, trauma, or ripping families apart? Or wasn’t it reported?
They counted people turned around at the border as deportations. The number is bogus.
I remember the covid-era goon squads.
That tyranny was for your own good.
Yet the ACLU didn’t say much when the Biden Administration tried to force social media censor opinions that went against the regime views. They can get fucked.
I can’t recall what year they explicitly dropped the pretense of being a civil liberties organization declaring they will only defend woke liberties.
Yes they did Ed. Yes they did. They said they were no longer taking first amendment cases. I remember that like it was yesterday.

Facial inconsistencies. I’m going to have to remember to use that one.

I can understand having two properties listed as a primary residence for the purposes of a mortgage if you are moving to a new home and keeping your old home. In that case the mortgage applications would likely be filled out years apart. Claiming two as your primary residence only weeks apart is clearly fraud.
“Yeah, we lived there for a week, then we wanted a new primary residence.”
It’s like Larry, Daryl, and Daryl. “This is muh primary residence, and this is muh other primary residence.”
Is this the woman who was not only claiming two residences but renting one out? Or maybe renting both out?
This is not cause for firing?
She is a Party Member, not a prole. They have different rules.
We are now, for all intents and purposes, living in a dictatorship where the rules are made and changed at the whim of a single person, and the only beneficiaries are the ultra-rich.

Organized resistance movements in Spain, Chile, Poland, South Africa and South Korea helped bring about peaceful democratic transitions, and they have much to teach us about preventing, countering and surviving tyranny.
If the last seven months have taught us anything, it should be that democracy is fragile and requires vigilance. Fascism can happen here, too.
The Brown Shirts will get you if you don’t watch out.
Fascism can happen here, too.

Dismantling democracy at breakneck speed
A day after nine former directors of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention wrote that Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s actions at the agency are “unlike anything our country has ever experienced,” he pushed back in a Wall Street Journal editorial.
The CDC “was once the world’s most trusted guardian of public health,” Kennedy wrote Tuesday. “Its mission — protecting Americans from infectious disease — was clear and noble. But over the decades, bureaucratic inertia, politicized science and mission creep have corroded that purpose and squandered public trust.”
Stick to your mission? That’s no way to run a government agency.
Disease is on the decline. We need to branch out if we want to grow our budget.

Don’t be silly, the marketing guys will be AI bots.

It’s weird to be answering reference checks. I’ve been a manager long enough that people are calling me about people who used to work for me.
I can confirm that person worked here for that period. That is all.
This is a person I want to get the prospective job.
Most of my people have been great employees.
Corporate rules for us. We can only discuss the minimum: dates, labor category, etc. HR will give more details if contacted.
Sorry to hear that.
This is still a state position, so it’s all internal, plus there are no written policies regarding responding to reference calls as far as I am aware.
Corporate doesn’t trust us. We can discuss for internal transfers or if the government is asking.
Yet the ACLU didn’t say much when the Biden Administration tried to force social media censor opinions that went against the regime views. They can get fucked.
That’s the good kind of
autocracydecisive fact based democratic governance. In his editorial Tuesday, Kennedy didn’t address questions surrounding Monarez’s firing or his recent actions on vaccines. Instead, he blamed the Biden administration for missteps during the pandemic and criticized how the CDC’s scope has expanded over the years.
The CDC was founded in 1946 with a focus on preventing malaria from spreading across the country. Over time, its work expanded to include other infectious diseases — like polio, smallpox and HIV — as well as public health issues like chronic disease, lead poisoning, bioterrorism, injury prevention and global health.
Kennedy argued in his op-ed that the agency’s expanding role led to “irrational policy” during the pandemic.
I wonder why they left “gun violence” off that list.
And who could possibly believe the government’s plague response was irrational?
Don’t forget drowning!

During COVID the CDC issued multiple orders banning landlords from evicting tenants. You know, run-of-the-mill disease prevention stuff totally within the agency’s scope.
And then people wonder why landlords want to turn rentals into Airbnb units.
Next I will discover the feds are subsidizing local life guards.
Given that it ran counter to good sense and the government’s own established protocols, anyone either with good sense or foolish enough to buy into government protocols.
Mosquito bites on feet are extra annoying. I guess there are worse places.
Once a year my wife forgets and walks through the yard in sandals – then the red ants maul her.
So, don’t touch grass? Way to ignore this year’s pet saying!
Where are you?
Down here this time of year we typically have a tiny, tiny black mosquito that is completely silent. It goees low…for the ankles and feet. It’s gives no sensation whatsoever when it bites. About three minutes after it leaves the itch begins….an itch ten times worse than the other mosquitoes. That is the one that I hate most.
Virginia. We have them stealth mosquitos too.
Mosquitos are the one actual menace from CO2.
During a really bad year (’93?) in Ft Riley KS, the skeetos were so bad you couldn’t avoid breathing them.
I slathered up with repellant and Skin-So-Soft and covered myself with a canvas shelter-half during a 85 degree evening.
When I woke up in the morning, I discovered that the tip of my nose had been out and untreated for most of the evening.
The itching and swelling were maddening and ridiculous looking. Thinking about it makes me itch now.
Lake Erie laughs in Canadian Soldier.
When I arrived at Fort Richardson they issued a bag of mosquito gear. It wasn’t just in case. The summer swarms in the training areas could drain a soldier.
Everywhere thinks their mosquitoes are the worst….because they are.
That year was summer for the Great Flood of ’93 and was a total shit-storm.
On top of the mosquitos, the weeds were so high that the only way you could see a 70 ton M1 going 30 mph was to watch for the antenna. With a Bradley, you could at least see the vehicle commander.
Pollen was so bad, I almost went blind from pink-eye.
Suthenboy:
Canadian Soldiers are just midges. They don’t bite, they swarm for a couple of days, covering everything, then they all die off. They also drop off dramatically as you move away from the Lake. The house I grew up on (about a mile from the lake) would get covered on the shady sides during the swarms. The current house (about 10 miles from the lake), they don’t make it down here.

“Defended the officers involved” – At some point, no, you can’t defend the officers involved. Nor their leaders. Every officer who participated in that is guilty.
My father was a bacon officer. In his early days on the force, there were laws on the books prohibiting unmarried people from co-habitating. It was only ever enforced when a jilted girlfriend would call in her ex. He recounted the shame he felt standing in the doorway as the guy gathered his shoes. But he still did it and it bothered him for the rest of his life. You understand at some level, he was a young guy with a young family depending on him. But, at some point, enforcing immoral laws simply can no longer be forgiven, even if understood from the perspective of a pension and paycheck. Totalitarianism is built on the back of a pension and a paycheck.
Good line.
Have you seen what happens when they fly their own flag?
NEVER FORGET!
“…the balance between free speech and…..”
And go fuck yourself. I love all of the weaselly ways they have of saying free speech is not allowed.
They can’t allow free speech, it might lead to allowing self defense, or prosecuting muslim rape gangs.
It’s good they got him before he created a comedy that mocked them.
Don’t the fuckers stop that by doing reprisals? The Resistance in France was hampered by the Nazis lining up groups of innocents and shooting them every time a Nazi soldier was ambushed and killed.
War is a game both sides get to play.
I sometimes wonder if there is a point where things have gotten so bad that we need a string of high profile, blatant, terrible injustices to cause the public and eventually the government to step the fuck down. I don’t want things to get that bad, but the government can drop the hammer on rando internet shitposters all day long without much outcry. Incidents like this may help with a course correction.

“Chicago officials have long argued that the city’s gun violence is fueled less by local laws than by the steady influx of firearms from nearby states with looser regulations. Mayor Brandon Johnson said on Tuesday that too many guns are trafficked into Illinois from neighboring states — especially Indiana, which is led by Republicans — and end up on city streets.”
If that’s the case, how Indianapolis isn’t a larger crime vortex like Chicago? I don’t think there’s any Constitutional backing for the President to send troops into a city to deal with local issues, but a lot of people are kind of hoping it would happen.
Because they exported all their guns to Chicago.
I guess it’s my fault. Set up a border checkpoint for when I drive to practice tonight.
Oh what a tangled web we weave…..
Troops? They are national guard….state guards. When we say “Who you ask are the militia? They are the body of the people, every person capable of bearing arms.” they say that is outdated because now we have the national guard, that is the militia. When the president calls up the national guard to literally guard the cops while they do their jobs they scream that the president is ‘sending troops’ into American cities.
Then there is the Indiana guns absurdity…..
Do not argue with these people. They absolutely never argue in good faith about anything. Trump is taking the right stand “We are going in.”
Shut that shit down. If the local commies do anything to hinder you, arrest them.
“Indiana” Guns not really from Indiana!
I’m disappointed Virginia didn’t make the top 10.
Mayor Brandon Johnson said on Tuesday that too many guns are trafficked into Illinois from neighboring states — especially Indiana, which is led by Republicans — and end up on city streets.
They should build a wall.
There would be no crime if we just got rid of all the Republicans.
I think Britain has gone past the point of no return. Violence has become the only means of rolling back the tyranny at this point. It’s a sad state of affairs. Otherwise, Britain becomes an island prison.
Becomes?
Becomes? They ARE an island prison. There will not be enough jail cells when taxpayers en masse decide to stop paying tax to starve the beast. And that is coming.
Violence has become the only means of rolling back the tyranny at this point.
Too many people still have too much to lose.
Too many people still have too much to lose.
So far.
I was reading an article on social breakdown and the transition of crowds into mobs. The burden of breaking the rules and throwing the first rock through a window is very, very high. The burden of being the 30th person to throw a rock through a window is trivial.
They are inching closer to the point, when the first person breaks the rules and takes violent action. Once that happens, it’s all over.
Huxley made the point that a mob removes from the individuals in it their moral inhibitions and reason.
That is changing quickly. I saw a case the other day where some retired couple…one of them said something something online and he was being arrested and they were being put out of their home to be replaced with….you guessed it. ‘Migrants’. If that is true they are evicting British citizens and replacing them with their imported savage serfs.
I cant vouch for the veracity of that story…the situation has gotten to the point where who knows what or who to beleive.
Tom Woods’s e-letter today had a parallel story: https://mailchi.mp/tomwoods/linehan?e=cdfc59dbe3
Even those with little to lose (e.g. diagnosis of 1 year to live) aren’t out there settling scores with local petty tyrants and others who have terribly wronged them. Shooters seem to be mostly youngsters going after innocents.
I’m not a violent man nor am I particularly inclined to start a revolution, but as a father of two daughters, if some guy assaults one of my daughters and they get off with a light sentence because the government is too scared to prosecute them, Imma start looking at other options for justice.
Our capacity as humans to eat shit is incredibly high but there is a breaking point, and the UK will eventually reach it, and it won’t be pretty. I would bet that Blair (who started this nonsense), Brown, Cameron, May, Johnson, Sunak, and Starmer will pay a high price.
My understanding is that the majority of govt officials are in hiding or close to i t. They know full well the country is full of people looking to stretch some rope.
Gangrene has set in. There are few options left.
I’ve always said that January 6th (while not an attempt at a coup) is every politician’s worst nightmare. Pelosi, Schumer, McConnell, Johnson, and Thune know they are fucking over the American people and know that if the average citizen were desperate and angry enough, things wouldn’t end well for them.
On the Epstein victims – Trump is right to call it bullshit, even if I strongly suspect that yes he has things to hide here. These broads get on TV and cry victim with no evidence of any relation to Epstein period and talk about all these powerful men they plan to name but don’t name any of them. Just make some insinuations about Trump.
Would it surprise anyone if they are being paid to do this? And to specifically not mention any names, but just to draw attention to Trump?
It would surprise me if they were not.
On our bitching about the Brits….y’all realize that just the things we have said here would land us in prison in ‘ol blighty…and the chances of us getting off of an airplane there now and not being arrested is….?
Remember that shitbird police chief that said ‘shut your fucking mouth and dont think if you are not in Britain that you are safe”? Yeah…that guy.
I get what Thomas Massie is trying to achieve but I think he’s kind of pissing away his political capital pursuing this.
I was thinking similarly.
What political capital? Who ever is going to stand with that crazy guy?
Yes. Bro is right here. The more they wont release names of perpetrators or victims the more it looks like a Kavanaugh situation.
What is easier to believe….that a vast shadowy conspiracy has compromised most of the government, lizard people have a secret base on the dark side of the moon or ….they are lying yet again?
Shooters seem to be mostly youngsters going after innocents.
This has always kind of baffled me. If you’re going to go on a murder spree, why target people you don’t even know?
There must be deserving individuals in your social or work circles, Shirley.
Oh you mean like Luigi? ‘cept that was just a one-shot deal.
It’s because they’re looking for attention, and in this age of click-driven media advertising, you get attention by being the biggest shitbag humanly possible.
One ham sandwich to go
Washington grand jurors have refused to indict in yet another criminal case — this time in a case in which the government alleged the defendant made threats against President Donald Trump. It’s the latest known instance of a stunning phenomenon that’s been underway in the nation’s capital, as grand jurors have refused to return indictments in several cases presented by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s office.
I must reiterate once again how abnormal this is. Prosecutors generally have an easy time securing indictments — so easy that it’s difficult to infer much about a case’s merit based on the mere fact of an indictment.
There is much to infer, however, from grand jurors’ recent refusals to indict at least three other separate defendants who were all initially charged with assaulting law enforcement officers. In one of those cases alone, grand jurors declined three times to return an indictment.
Add to the mix the case of Nathalie Rose Jones. Announcing her arrest last month, Pirro said, “Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution. Make no mistake — justice will be served.”
I can’t help wondering about the details.
Nullification is OK when the Deep State does it.
Here’s more details. It’s a lot of pretty extreme threats but I’m not sure I’d indict: https://www.justice.gov/usao-dc/pr/indiana-woman-charged-making-death-threats-facebook-against-president-trump
Her worst comment (IMO): “I am willing to sacrificially kill this POTUS by disemboweling him and cutting out his trachea with Liz Cheney and all The Affirmation present.”
She’s also a nut since, “she wanted to “avenge all the lives lost during the Covid-19 pandemic,” which she attributed to President Trump’s administration and its position on vaccinations.”
They need to be reminded the consent of the governed can be withdrawn.
Hence why they try to whittle away our ability to own guns. The idea that a well-armed populace exists out there gives them nightmares. They’re lucky though that we’re a fairly prosperous country where there would be too much to lose if one decided to rise up against the federal government.
Lincoln would like a word.
On August 15, the U.S. Secret Service conducted a voluntary interview with Jones, during which she stated the President was a “terrorist” and a “nazi,” that if she had the opportunity, she would take the President’s life and would kill him at “the compound” if she had to, that she had a “bladed object,” which she said was the weapon she would use to “carry out her mission of killing” the president, and that she wanted to “avenge all the lives lost during the Covid-19 pandemic,” which she atrributed to President Trump’s administration and its position on vaccinations.
