I am in full canning and preserving mode. After today, I’ll be up to ten quarts of sauce and I don’t know how many bags of roasted chiles, ready to vacuum seal for the freezer. And, piss poor planning on my part, I leave Tuesday for a week. I have a drift boat and a guide reserved to fish Henry’s Fork of the Snake River on Wednesday. Any fly fisherman here will know that name. Then two days in Montana casting and blasting with noted Glib, Francisco d’Anconia.

But first, we must Link!

Yes, treating Kammie like every other ex-VP is an “erratic, vindictive political impulse”. GFY Newsom.

“She waved her penis at the children”. Britain has gone dark and retarded.

Love him, or hate him, he’s a Grandmaster at trolling.

“Panspermia” is the official description of SPACE SMITH shooting his wad.

Wait until AI learns about Rule 34.

No trams or gondolas! Or whatever a “funicular” is.

Alrighty, that’s it for me. Another shitty news cycle and I have work to do. Think I’ll pour a drink first. Peace out Glibbies.

A child who was playing on the monkey bars in the park saw Mart holding her penis and wiggling it at her, and she immediately told her friends and father.

Who thereupon and forthwith lopped it off?

It’s both predictable and frightful how eager ‘Britain’ is to go Full Orwell. (Never go Full Orwell.) A great example of the Media being Power’s pawn: How the fuck did this become ‘proper’ AP style? Uh. Huh. (I just explained ‘why,’ so I guess I explained the how, as well. (I did. Sigh.))

I’m fearful their population is both too enthralled, and too demoralized, to dream of standing a fight. The only way for this to end ‘well’ for the Euros is to take Trump 2.0 and amplify that to insane(ly necessary) extents to deport the Muslim i̵n̵v̵a̵s̵i̵o̵n̵ invitation. I fear they’re too numb to make a stand, at this point. Their frog’s been low-and-slow heated for decades, to the point they’re now ‘calmly’ sitting and licking their balls in a flesh-searing, vaporous cage.

One way or another, the coming fight is going to be *nasty.*

Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker (D) also posted a response on X, writing, “The President of the United States is threatening to go to war with an American city. This is not a joke. This is not normal. Donald Trump isn’t a strongman, he’s a scared man. Illinois won’t be intimidated by a wannabe dictator.”

A wannabe dictator? No thanks. We’ve already got one.

Maybe the Limeys can arrest Trump next time he shows up, for making terroristic threats on the internet.

I do not get the Pochettino selection strategy – the oldest back on the roster and a very mature debutant, neither of whom could possibly be considered starting material at the World Cup. Yeah, yeah, Ream started the last one, and I’ll grant he is savvy, but he is also slow and if he really is the best we have (or one of the two best) – we’re going to be so embarrassed.

I put a $500 hold on a 2017 Kia Sportage, a turbocharged ‘hatchback’/ mini-suv. Only 66k miles at ~$17k, all said, done, if I get it. Will be able to take it to our anti-KIA mechanic on Tuesday to scope it out. Unless something is fucked, it’s gonna be my next car.

It was much peppier than my 2013 Chevy Malibu, and the interior was very pleasantly -knobbed and buttoned (tee!), but it does have a keyless button-start. It’s not ugly, IMO, and is quite spacious for what it is. It has AWD, a first for me. (Meh, in IN.) JUST FOUND OUT! The back seat in my model folds down flat, which it will always be until I have excess passengers to require it. This may become Nap Zone for my overly long lunch break. Would make cozy.

And at 1901k I still do. I drive a Cadillac and the MLWs drive Benz,
But still use the Kia for heavy loads and big stuff,
        Go Kia!

    • Akira

Nice. Those SUV-like vehicles are actually pretty impressive with how much space they have in the back.

I’m still scoping out the market to see if a Toyota pickup truck might be available that is not fucking gigantic. I don’t need double tires in back and a 4-person cab; I just need to get some plywood from Lowe’s sometimes.

      • Evan from Evansville

        No, you need a Hilux.

See also: Top Gear. And your African-warring plans.

      • rhywun

ha I have never seen the word “Hilux” anywhere other than painted on an Aussie Rules oval. I guess that is the “international” version of some vehicle that has a different name in the US but I dunno which one.

I really like my 3/4 ton with extended cab and 8′ box. I haven’t found the length an issue in city parking lots or Forest Service roads in the mountains.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

I love my 4-door Frontier, and this is a great feature in my eyes. I can still carry a 4×8 sheet, although it hangs over the tailgate, which it would in a six foot bed anyway. But the extra space in the cab works out really well.

    • Sean

17k for an 8 year old Kia? Dude…

      • Evan from Evansville

I know-ish. But 66k miles and one owner? We looked ’round. $11k would get us a Mirage, and fuck that shoebox. For needs of my notarized loan-agreement with them, they demand a newish car.

Cheaper than this, post ’19 w/o insane mileage? Mirage or a $1,500 week-long drive -til -die.
As opposed to both my ’03 and ’05 purchases of $1800 beaters. (The latter lasted four years.) Fuck you, Obama. Fucking Cash/ Clunkers fucking the poor over, only for (most of) The Poor to cheer it on. Cuz DAMN! It *felt* nice, didn’t it?!

In other sports news, today is the thirtieth anniversary of Cal Ripken breaking Lou Gherig’s consecutives games streak. Probably one of the coolest sports moments of my life.

    • Evan from Evansville

I watched it live (on TV) w Dad in ’95. There right there, is one-of-few records that will never be broken. Pussies.

Thought on that that’s gestated for a bit: As a leadoff hitter *and* the starting catcher, in several seasons of Little League, Fall Ball and All-Star games, I assuredly saw the most pitches per-game than anyone else on the field. That’s a good way to imprint the game in ya, let alone having a Dad eager to coach and throw me regular batting practice in the back yard.

Ripken was a fucking helluva ballplayer. (I could take him.)

From the limited information in the article about the funicular accident. It sounds like the cable failed near the socket. Like elevators, most of these systems have automatic brakes that apply when the cable tension is lost but one this old may not have one, that could be why the cable is supposed to be replace every 600 days. My guess is that someone pencil whipped the maintenance log.

Moment of self-hatred in an otherwise glorious day: I fucking lost my phone in goddamn Walmart. Put it down somewhere on a pick, got distracted /moved on/ felt the handheld as *my* phone, and it’s lost in the ether.

BUT! At 5:30am tomorrow, I’ve arranged T-Mobile to call it, tho silenced, and have it ring for 5min. (At least once.) With the vacant aisles, I’ll assemble my crew, hopefully with CC at the helm, to help me source the sounds of my silence … as my conduit to The World rings out. That’s kinda a fun adventure. I really hope it works out, tho am prepared if it doesn’t.

That’ll be an interesting moment. Speaking of.. Was algorithmicaly summoned to pick flowers for an online customer today. I jokingly told CC about it, mentioning previous times I’d been told to submit ‘Substitute’ options for selected anniversary cards that were out of stock. “Above my pay grade! I don’t know what shit got you to *begin* to think about this, and *now* ya wanna have a stranger do it *for* you!” Sinner, please.

As soon as I mentioned it, she bowled over and jumped, preciously asking if ‘Please, can *she* could choose the flowers?!
Well, cupcakes. Obviously, I acceded. It was an adorable spectacle, we shared, poking through the flowers and watching her choose. (She was eager, and upset the scanner wouldn’t ‘accept’ any of the options. (None were acceptable, we both agreed.))

In too-local news (and apologies in advance if this is paywalled), Factional fight amongst the greenies over lithium battery plant

TOWN OF ULSTER, N.Y. – Die-hard environmentalists and local Democrats strongly criticized two state lawmakers who said they found no safety risks from a proposed 250-megawatt lithium-ion battery facility at the site of the former Coleman High School, which is adjacent to populated areas.

Officials and residents criticized state Sen. Michelle Hinchey and state Assemblymember Sarahana Shrestha on Thursday and Friday about their answers to risk concerns raised by residents.

“Support of (Terra-Gen) is surprising and very new and not thoughtful and they probably have the political pressure put upon (them),” said former Ulster County Resource Recovery Agency board Chairman Regis Obijiski.

The state senator mentioned is a lefty nepobaby, daughter of a far-lefty (supported single-payer as far back as the late 80s) who spent 35 years in elective office. The Assemblyman is a self-avowed Democratic Socialist who escaped the hellhole of Nepal and apparently wants to bring Nepal’s shitty economics here. She also advocates for a state takeover of the local electric utility.
