The Hat and The Hair Animated: Rerun 75

by | Oct 22, 2025 | Hat and Hair | 71 comments

So, this one has nerd layers to it. You see, Fallout 4 was very popular and the MMO built on the same engine was highly anticipated, Fallout 76. Then it dropped, and it was a stinking turd of a game. Rumor is it has gotten better since launch, but I got it free through Amazon gaming and wasn’t even interested enough to finish the first mission. I’ve done 3 playthroughs of Fallout 4. Episode 75 happened to be just at a time ‘rightwing’ gaming channels were shitting all over the then new Fallout Amazon series, so kizmet! And The Hat had a new podcast to do. Oh, and I like the band Fastball.

Fallout’s fallout seemed like unbased fallout.

    • R.J.

      Drugs Fallout of ass?

  2. Ted S.

I never played Fallout, so I missed everything in it.

    • R.J.

You had a falling out with Fallout?

      • Ted S.

        Known in Canada is Falloot.

  3. J. Frank Parnell

I’ve started Fallout 4 twice, I think, and couldn’t get into it.

Is it possible to get through it without all the crafting and farming and shit like that? Because I hate that bullshit, I just want to explore and shoot things in the head.

    • rhywun

I tried Fallout 1 once about a thousand years ago; didn’t really get into it.

None of them are available on my current platform so ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

    • Rat on a train

You can. Settlement management isn’t required.

    • Ownbestenemy

Yes you can even though its a core mechanic.

      • rhywun

        lol

I’ve farted around some games avoiding “core mechanics” and wondered why I bother. Usually it means I can’t progress but maybe it’s different here I dunno.

      • Ownbestenemy

Core in its built in but doesnt lock you out of the main story line. There isnt a point where you must build a settlement. You just miss context and filler.

    • R C Dean

I’m on playthrough number three. I’m trying to get every magazine and bobblehead (nearly there on those), as much power armor as possible, and see if I can keep The Brotherhood of Steel, the Railroad, and the Minutemen from killing each other. But not the Institute – fuck those guys.

      Also, every settlement and companion.

  4. DEG

    “Too school for cool”.

    I like it.

    • rhywun

Yeah, that was the highlight for me.

  5. Ownbestenemy

Speaking of Fallout…I see nearly all of MSM is trying to make renovating the WH as if he was shitting on Jesus himself

    • Sensei

      Yes. They certainly have.

    • rhywun

Fighting the vulgarity of Donald’s changes is an unnecessary distraction for Dems who are so courageously trying to dedicate their attention to standing firm for free health care for illegal aliens and for the continuation of the “temporary” plague-era subsidies for Obamacare subscribers. Not to mention the coordination of their foot soldiers to resist the arrest of illegal aliens with rap sheets selling stolen merch in Chinatown.

      • Ownbestenemy

Impossible! They are just people trying to make a living

      • rhywun

That story takes the cake for batshit TDS.

They are just desperate to get a rise out of ICE agents and I dunno about them but I probably couldn’t resist knocking the lights out of one of those delusional, ignorant AWFLs.

I like their gritty bar soaps but they are expensive AF and fall apart near the end.

I *hate* liquid soap and the HBA aisle at every supermarket is like 90% of that nowadays. The selection of bar soaps is pathetic.

      • Tres Cool

I rock the Ivory bar soap when I can- since I travel a lot.
And I bring shampoo with me- Prell. 100 Proof. I still kick the hard shit.

      • UnCivilServant

Some brands of soap cause me to break out in a rash, so I just bring Dial with me as a rule. I still haven’t narrowed down what additive it is that does it – I just know Dial’s ok.

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

I’m an Ivory bar soap dude as well.

        Panteen for shampoo and conditioner.

      • creech

Lots of motels and hotels have the liquid “body wash” stuff in the shower. I don’t care for it at all, so always pack a bar when traveling.

      • rhywun

Dial is OK but honestly I want something more deodoranty. Most of the bar soaps these days don’t have that anymore.

I have a small selection of all the available regulars – Dial, Zest, Irish Spring, Caress. None of them are very satisfying which I why I have never been able to settle on one. Zest is my favorite of that bunch but it seems like the formula has changed since I was little.

I don’t do shampoo because I buzz my hair.

      • rhywun

        Prell. 100 Proof

I remember Prell smells amazing – one of my faves when I used to use shampoo.

      • Evan from Evansville

Yikes. Awfully particular, y’all. Shampoo + Conditioner usually, but now just body wash soap. I don’t shampoo nor condition my hair. It gets water washed, cuz it needs natural oils to keep it together. I’ve not encountered any negative issues from myself nor past romantic partners.

I am in no way picky. I do pay to get non-girly smells from typically overly-masculine marketing folk. Not AXE. *checks* Cedarwood from Everyman Jack. *shrugs*

WTF would anyone want to use a damn *bar?* Ya enjoy chunky soap debris in hairy areas, I s’pose. I *do* understand washcloths and those lovely, colorful little plushy scrubby thingies I don’t currently have a name for. But why a slippery stupid bar?! They *do* provide a deep fingernail clean, I’ll give ’em that.

        Weirdos.

      • UnCivilServant

If your bar soap goes chunky – start being picky about brand.

A,d do you mean those awful Loofahs?

      • Evan from Evansville

Yes! I knew that word and glad it’s returned. They’re soft enough, yet exfoliate and easily gather frothy lather. (Mmmhmmm.) They also have a little ropey strap! *twinkles*

Where did the loofah touch you where you weren’t touching yourself?

      • UnCivilServant

The texture of the loofah is just wrong

      • rhywun

washcloths and those lovely, colorful little plushy scrubby thingies

Fiddly stuff I don’t want to deal with.

Run a bar across the skin, done.

      • Gender Traitor

I believe U and EfE are referring to two different bath accessories. A loofah is the dried sponge that resembles nothing else quite so much as a fossilized loaf of French bread and is suitable for your more extreme dermabrasion needs. What EfE is describing, if I’m not mistaken, is flexible plastic mesh scrunched down into some kind of pom pom. Those are too sissy even for me, and I’m a chick. šŸ˜‰

      • Evan from Evansville

GT is largely correct. I don’t have one now andam not planning another purchase, but they’re efficient and easy. Don’t need to wash them and they scrub. The strap is a plus. I’m sure you can get one in cadaverous color of one’s choosing.

Y’all take cleanliness *way* too seriously. This is one reason why I simply don’t get sick. (Injured? Yes. Sick? No.)

I also don’t wash my hands after I go to the bathroom. That’s *your* policy, not mine. mostly cuz I learned not to piss and shit all over myself 35 years ago. Others, apparently, did not master this skill. Or, you simply feel unclean all the time. Sad! But not my problem.

      • Ted S.

What EfE is describing, if I’m not mistaken, is flexible plastic mesh scrunched down into some kind of pom pom. Those are too sissy even for me, and I’m a chick.

But Ironhead, what’s with this thingy?

  7. Evan from Evansville

/dedthread replying to Brooks: Projection, thy name is strong with this one. ā€œThe vast Simpleton army awaits his commend.ā€ Yes, cupcake. What’d AOC and Buttagiggle say ’bout, say, Israel? (Then ya can parrot that!)

Ha, got me thinking: I was trying to come up with DNC or media figures lefties could ā€˜rely’ on for their orders. Goes to show how weak of a damn bench Blue has. It ain’t Harris, certainly not Biden, no Hillary and (oddly good on him) nothing really from Obama. (He’s happy to be cashed out, methinks. Yay.) No one in the media screams ā€˜cultural power’ to me. The answer is assuredly the shadow Soros/ Gates $$ crowd, but that’s mighty revealing.

I’m quite positive I’m forgetting someone, but is there anyone resembling a popular voice that ā€˜unifies’ the Left? (They aren’t for unifying, I s’pose. No true Commie, eh? It’s rather fun when they eat each other. It’s damn good ā€˜the right’ is far better armed than the voluntarily disarmed.

    • creech

Just running against HitlerVance will be enough for the Dem candidate to unify the Left. Someone looking and sounding professional, without a bunch of looney ideas on the campaign trail – such as Gov. Josh Shapiro – will get the nod. Shapiro will be a re-elected governor in a state Trump won twice (16 and 24) and cannot be portrayed easily as a kook.

      • rhywun

Can he drag the window back a little? The base is nuts. They’re tearing apart any Dem who attempts moderation. Not to mention that whoever gets the nomination isn’t necessarily going to be chosen by voters.

      • Chafed

I agree with all of it Creech but I’m not convinced he will get the nomination. The party appears to be moving rapidly left. I think the Dems will nominate a progressive. They are going to need a drubbing before they move towards the center.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Shapiro might work in PA, but wont fly in the left coast. They want blood, and he won’t go far enough for them. Centrism isn’t in the D cards yet.

As long as Trump doesn’t go on the wrong side of an 80/20 issue, whom ever follows him (Vance) will do OK.

      • Gustave Lytton

2028 be back to Trump fatigue after four years of stepping on his own dick and unforced errors. Plus the Uniparty wing of the RINOs (majority of the party politicians) still wants to go back to the good ole days of giving the bestest concession speeches.

      • Sean

Shapiro has a book out with all his struggles.

        šŸ™„

      • slumbrew

A big chunk of the modern left will have a problem with (((Shapiro))).

Caitlin Johnstone has an article linked on Lew Rockwell’s site asserting that the only reason that people fear Muslims is because Israel plays on white people’s natural racism.

    I’m wondering if Caitlin’s nickname is ā€œGaslight Cateā€.

One doesn’t have to love and adore national Israel to realize that Muslim culture presents serious challenges to Western ideals.

    Like, owning a dog.

    Or, eating pork barbecue.

    Among other things.

Who does she think she’s going to fool with that nonsense?

    • Ted S.

It’s not about fooling people; it’s about rubbing the noses of the Icky Class in it.

After an oddly productive ‘weekend,’ time to begin *my* workweek with a cold morning commute. The Carmel Current got back to my application and seems to be setting up an interview. (I’ll have to talk them down a bit. Will be interesting, should I have said interview.) I got shadowed by the new Team Lead last shift cuz my numbers are slower than the others, which was a fun instance of professionally standing up for myself and explaining why I do what I do.

Should be a relatively chill day. Good job, Sabres. Kick ass, likewise, germs ‘n gents.

    • Gender Traitor

      Good morning, Sean and EfE!

    Mornin’ all!
Cancer ‘surgery’ yesterday morning, which I hasten to assure you was no biggie. Squamous cell carcinoma, ‘stage zero’, so a roughly 15 minute office visit to the dermatologist. Surface scraping and cauterization and done.
Nasty looking, but mostly painless, wound on my left shoulder between collarbone and shoulder blade.
I’m now back on twice a year visits to the dermatologist after several years of annual skin checks. Meh. At least I very much like my dermatologist šŸ™‚
Hopefully this is the end of my year of medical issues!

    • Gender Traitor

Hey there, Beau! Sorry to hear that was necessary, but glad it went as well as could be expected! šŸ™‚šŸ‘

      • Beau Knott

Thanks! I was likewise gratified, and glad I’d explicitly asked the Dr. to look at that area.
I was rather amazed that they called Monday with the biopsy results and got the procedure scheduled for Wednesday. Even more surprised that I was in and out so quickly.
At a certain age, every ginger or pale-complexioned person should see/start seeing a dermatologist. This is my 5th excision ;-\

      • Gender Traitor

        ::remembers she’s a ginger of a certain age…:: 😳

      • WTF

At a certain age, every ginger or pale-complexioned person should see/start seeing a dermatologist.

True. As a man of German/Irish/Scottish descent who spent a lot of my youth in the sun (no sunscreen) I can sympathize. Several months ago I noticed a couple of itchy blotches, one on my arm and one on my shoulder that didn’t seem to want to go away, so I went to my primary care doc. He asked me when was the last time I saw a dermatologist, and I said at least 15 years. He told me I should go one a year and gave me a referral. The blotches turned out to be nothing, but now I have a yearly appointment for skin screening.

      • Rat on a train

My glow-in-the-dark complexion has me on annual screening.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Put me in this class too, and my mother has had some skin cancer issues, so I am pretty wary of it.

    • Evan from Evansville

Damn, Beau. I took hope the worst is over, the band aid pulled RIGHT OFF!

All good thoughts, onward and upward.

      • Beau Knott

Thanks EfE. I actually pulled the bandage right off this morning, then applied Vaseline per the doc’s direction and a bandaid.
It really has been a year smdh. A fib started probably a year ago, diagnosed just before Thanksgiving (hint: never need medical services in that time frame), Cardioversion to fix it right after Christmas and a month on the medication from hell. Then my bp went out of control and I developed a hernia. The hernia surgery was easier than getting the blasted bp down where it should be. From 1 pill once a day a year ago to 4 pills, 3 of them twice a day. Why? Who knows?
Plus various ‘adventures in dentistry’ and then this. At least this was fast, easy, and basically painless.
I really really hope this is over, rather than the new normal ;-\

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

We are all pulling for you, Beau.

    • Sean

15 minutes? Impressive. Bet you sat in the waiting room longer.

      • Beau Knott

Actually no. I’m very impressed with my dermatologist’s practice. They’re friendly, efficient, and rarely have wait times of any note. Unlike my primary care doc ;-\

    • Derpetologist

The toxicology report came back negative for the drugs commonly tested. During my magical mystery tour, I suspected I had been drugged with LSD or scopolamine. Maybe that injury I got from getting bashed on the head with a club in 2021 was worse than I thought (traumatic brain injury?). I should have asked for a CAT scan.
