Here’s hoping you all survived Turkey Day. It was an odd one here but family and food were still delightful. Time to gear up for Christmas and the end of the year!

Links?

That racist son of a bitch is meddling in the Honduras election by endorsing a “conservative” candidate. Bigot too.

Fine. We’ll just kill ’em for smoked butt, ham and racks of ribs.

I’m laying in popcorn supplies for this one.

I’m just going to go ahead and put this in the “retard” category. You should have at least written it down, dude.

This is pretty wild:

I’m going to apply the 48 hour rule here.

I recently flew on one of these. Nice plane. I’m glad it stayed in the air.

RETVRN TO MONKE.

Okay, that’s it for me today. The sun is shining and it’s time for a bite. Peace out, Glibbies.

Welcome to reality Ms Shanahan. Better late than never.

    • R.J.

Agreed. Now go back and bring the others.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Meaningful self-reflection is a rare thing, especially by those who are surrounded by sycophants and users who kiss their ass and puff them up for their own ends (which usually means getting access to their wallets), so good for her. Self-delusion is an easy thing to fall into and a much tougher thing to get out of and an even harder thing to admit.

  2. The Late P Brooks

Speaking of beer, which people were in the prior thread…

I wonder how much longer Tilray will be able to stay afloat. They are a cannabis company with a portfolio of beer brands purchased from A-B (including my current go to, Pub Beer, from 10 Barrel)and Molson Coors. I just looked, and the share price is a screaming $.81.

Whatever this current THC hoopla is about, it doesn’t look good for them. If 10 Barrel disappears I will be sad.

    • R.J.

      Always it is government interference.
Why did we use to have only four or five boring beers? Government interference in private markets.
Why didn’t we have a big hemp and pot industry? Same.
Fuck you, cut spending and then cut government by 2/3s. Hell, cut all of it. See if I care.

      • Threedoor

        2/3?
Can we get to at least 3/4?

    • Nephilium

The brands will generally get sold in bankruptcy, which includes the recipes for the beers. A brewery in Cincinnati expanded quite a bit by buying up the old defunct brands and bringing them back. That’s another reason why the local breweries getting bought by the big boys isn’t good in the long run. Platform brewery was the first craft brewery in Ohio to sell to AB-InBev. AB-InBev later closed the tap rooms and brewery here, cut the brand back to 4 beers (Platform was notorious for at least 15 new beers a year), and I don’t recall seeing any of them on the shelf in recent time. They had several good beers that are now going to be locked up in AB-InBev for the foreseeable future. Meanwhile, several local breweries closed out, and someone else bought their brand and recipes out of bankruptcy and brought some favorite beers back.

Huh. A bunch of women, who, lets face it, dug gold married for money, used it to do stupid, thoughtless things.

Huh. Never thought that would happen. Nu. Uh.

    • Gustave Lytton

      Surprise, surprise, surprise.

I’m pretty sure wealthy wives spending money on lefty stuff were Ayn Rand characters.

The prescribed software fix followed almost a month after an incident involving a JetBlue Airways Corp. jetliner that was exposed to “intense solar radiation,” resulting in a software malfunction that prompted a sudden downward pitch without pilot input. Nobody was injured in the incident, but the plane diverted from its normal flight path and the incident prompted an investigation.

This doesn’t make any fucking sense at all.

    • R.J.

That is very concerning if the strong solar storms we had did that.

      • kinnath

        Someone done fucked up.

      • kinnath

for those that see an 11 minute video as too long, didn’t watch . . .

Software version 103 of a flight critical system was replaced by version 104 in Oct 2025. Some how (and this is mind boggling), a small chunk of code that protects against electromagnetic interference (e.g., a solar flare) was left out of version 104.

There are so many layers of verification involved before software gets loaded on to the aircraft. I have no idea how this kind of mistake made to the aircraft.

      • Evan from Evansville

“for those that see an 11 minute video as too long, didn’t watch . . .”

        Thank you.

        You are welcome

I’m going to apply the 48 hour rule here.

I’m smelling bullshit, just because of the original article detailing these alleged “war crimes.” (archive link ’cause WaPo)

    To wit:

As two men clung to a stricken, burning ship targeted by SEAL Team 6

    1) Anyone who uses the term “SEAL Team 6” is an amateur.

    2) The boats have been taken out via missile or drone strikes. Why risk special operators on some drug runners in go-fast boats?

    • slumbrew

      Agreed, that reeks of bullshit.

    • R C Dean

It would be a colossally stupid use of military resources, which is why we can’t rule it out.

      • Chafed

It also reeks of bravado which is catnip to Trump.

    • Threedoor

When I see videos of guys in full battle rattle jumping onto semi submersibles wearing full battle rattle in the open ocean it gives me the Willies.

My IBA, rifle, ammo, and K pot weighed 52 pounds. And none of that crap floated.

  6. rhywun

“diet meat,” in the same way that Diet Coke is still Coke, just slightly different

    “slightly” lol

That is not making me want to try Diet Bacon. At all.

    • Threedoor

      That’s called fat.

  7. rhywun

“I really believed I was helping Black communities and indigenous communities rise up.”

So, you’re fucking stupid. Message received.

    • R C Dean

She was targeted by what I am sure are incredibly sophisticated campaigns. And “everyone she knew” was on the social justice/climate change train. I give her credit for coming to see it, albeit late, for what it was.

      • rhywun

Fair enough but the wording makes me wonder if she is still a “progressive woman” and therefore incurable.

“Social justice + climate change — it gets progressive women 100% of the time.”

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Yeah, don’t beat people up after they come around. We’ve all done things that seemed smart at the time but turned out to be misguided and stupid in hindsight.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Yeah, peer pressure, and a lack of contradicting information, is a hard one to overcome.

  8. J. Frank Parnell

Weird how right after a bunch of Dems tell the military not to follow illegal orders and then say they don’t know of illegal orders being issued the WaPo hears from some anonymous source that illegal orders were issued.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

They’re encouraging people to get themselves court martailed for making bad calls. The drug boats and the immigration stuff are way too ambiguous to refuse an order.

      • Fourscore

Now if I understand that correctly and it’s OK for the military to kill civilians purported to be transporting drugs then it must be OK for the National Guard to kill kids in the ‘hood that are suspected of delivering drugs.

        Did I get that right?

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

I don’t like the precedent that’s set either and I think it’s a bad move so I see your point. If it’s normalized that the government can just snuff people they have the power to arrest they’ll almost certainly try to expand the allowable circumstances. I assume that doing that kind of thing on US soil would be a bridge too far but who knows?

      • Brochettaward

If they actually targeted two whatever they fuck they were’s holding onto a piece of wreckage to finish them off, that’s not too ambiguous to me. Though I remain skeptical.

      • Evan from Evansville

“I assume that doing that kind of thing on US soil would be a bridge too far but who knows?”

The cops bombed Philly in ’85. People certainly got angry and *cared.* But they didn’t care-care, otherwise things would have changed. I guess they did change and move on to more no-knock raids instead, but I don’t know how prevalent those were before, at least in an official capacity.

      • Brochettaward

Obama committed a war crime so Hegseth and Trump are free to issue illegal orders, too?

The entire bombing of boats with no real oversight or approval from Congress is in itself a stretch. Doubling back to take out unarmed survivors is a blatant war crime. While I find the idea of war crimes and international law to be somewhat ridiculous in themselves, that isn’t really a gray area.

      • Fourscore

In many jurisdictions it’s public intoxication, either by alcohol or drugs and is against the law. Yet we see tent cities, needle parks, people needing Narcan as a survival tool and not being arrested.

Obviously the law is not taken very seriously but yet those providing the intoxicants may endure many years of incarceration. I say “may” ’cause apparently in some places even the selling offenders are back in business before sundown.

Just don’t get caught shooting a deer out of season in Minnesota, that’s really serious.

      • Nephilium

        Fourscore:

It’s a reason I dislike selective enforcement, as well as laws that are known to be bullshit, such as “There’s no alcohol in the Muni lot”. The Muni lot is the most notorious tailgating area for the Browns, and every koozie and Solo cup contains alcohol, and the cops all know it. But any one of them that tried to enforce the law would wind up in the lake. Just drop the pretense, and set reasonable expectations and guidelines.

      • rhywun

Does proper tailgating allow alcohol? Maybe another reason to support the move to the airport area.

      • Nephilium

        rhywun:

Tailgating without alcohol is like politics without retards, it doesn’t happen. Most around here are friend groups, but there’s a couple that go with tickets as well. Those include all you can drink, all you can eat, and donations (liquor, beer, mixers, or cash) welcome.

Turkey broth. Yum. I portion some out and put it in the ice box for later. I might get the craving for turkey pilaf. You never know.

    • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

Fed all 3 of my turkey carcasses to the chickens (I am a sick, sick man).

Next year I am saving them for turkey demi-glace.

Played some drums for Mom’s desired talent show for her 72nd. Kids and all were great fun. It snowed earlier but now it’s piping down pretty hard. 2-3″ so far, expected up to 7. That’d be bad, tomorrow morn. For the next several hours, I want much salt, many plow, to bear down on Hamilton County. Honestly, looks like it’ll soon pass over and warm a touch.

It sure do like nice, though.

    • Shpip

2-3″ so far, expected up to 7.

We had a dusting yesterday. About the same as all last winter put together. The surrounding hills get more but here in the valley mostly nothing. It is like some weird get out of winter free card – not far north is one of the big American snow belts.

From the ded thred, I remember when Coors was a new premium beer in the state. Strohs was for picnics, keg in a (metal) trash can filled with ice, served in plastic logoed cups.

    • Evan from Evansville

      Steel Reserve remains king.

    • Ted S.

You didn’t send truckers down to Texarkana to get you illicit Coors?

      • Threedoor

        I’ve had coors and yuengling.

No reason to drive more than 100 feet to buy either.

      • creech

I had a boss at Oscar Mayer who was in Wisconsin Air Nat Guard. Pilots used to plot their training flights to Colorado and come back with cases of Coors packed into all available space.

      • Gustave Lytton

Coors wasn’t available in all states until 1991. Regional beer in the 70’s (distributed in 11 states).

Snowblower hell. Wet snow on top of slush.

    • Fourscore

That was Wednesday, the ground under the snow wasn’t frozen and my snowblower would scrape off the top and blow gravel and dirt with the snow. It was hard/heavy to shovel but the snow blower did the trick.

    • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

      Snowblower hell.

The snowblower I bought this summer was a screaming deal at $200, but I forgot to check the electric starter. Tried it when I really needed it- no bueno. I tried pull-starting it until I nearly through my shoulder out. Luckily I have the exact same motor with the exact same electric start on my old snowblower.

/Ferb, I know what we’re gonna do tomorrow!

Watching Trumpists attack Rand and Massie for opposing his moronic spending sprees is rather comical.

They’re shortsighted and don’t realize you have to spend money to make money!
They just vote no and have no plans of their own!
Once the tariffs kick in the debt will vanish!

    Yada yada. Fucking clown show.

  15. Derpetologist

Well, at least Trump has a long way to go before he bombs more countries than FDR or Obama.

    ***
Barack Obama bombed more countries than Donald Trump, with Obama targeting seven countries (Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen) and dropping over 26,000 bombs in 2016 alone. In contrast, Trump’s bombing efforts were more focused on specific regions, particularly in Iran, but the total number of countries bombed is not definitively quantified.

← I put my Christmas dress on early this year.

Re Frank Slade: I absolutely adore Scent of a Woman, but you know, put ivy-clad old brick, neoclassical architecture on manicured lawns, punctuated by autumn trees, and I’m THERE. Bring on the punkin spice.

I thought ordering Schlitz for Charlie was because he was a kid and a) wouldn’t know any better and b) needed to cut his teeth on bad beer. But hey, I’m a tee-totaler. What do I know?

Finally, it was two hours of Al Pacino playing Al Pacino, which is perfectly acceptable as long as he continues to take roles where he has to play Al Pacino.

I’m listening to Alan Parsons and trying to figure how to stop trying to go home again. My kids are pretty much at the point in their lives where holidays with Mom and Dad are either optional, undesirable, or un-doable because of work schedules. Christmas really is for kids, and I never dreamed I’d take an empty nest so HARD.

    • rhywun

As the last of 4 I always assumed I was giving Mom what she wanted when I flew the coop. I mean, given that Mom and new-Dad immediately moved to the country the second I moved out.

    • Brochettaward

You know what you’re problem is, Moj? You’ve gotten so caught up in the sugar business, that you’ve forgotten the taste of real honey!

I don’t have kids. I’m stuck at a point in life where I’m debating making major life changes over a puppy.

You’ll have holidays with your kids most likely. They’ll come back around, maybe/hopefully have grandkids and you’ll find your family growing in another way. It’s not ever going to be quite the same, but you’ll get new experiences and joys.

    • Brochettaward

I’ve used that line here like half a dozen times and it’s normally been met with complete befuddlement/confusion which disgusts me. You are the first person. This is the first time I’ve seen anyone acknowledge having watched Scent Of A Women. The ending is one of my favorite scenes of all time.

  17. Brochettaward

Regarding Lane Kiffin leaving Ole Miss. He is demanding a chance to stay and finish and threatening to poach players and staff from the program (allegedly) if not given the chance. He’s about to get roasted by the self-righteous football pundits of the world, but…

Honestly? It’s the most honorable thing Kiffin can do. He owes it to his players and even himself to finish the season given what’s at stake. You jump to LSU for a chance to do exactly what Kiffin has a chance for right now. And if you’re Ole Miss, you should be happy to let the guy stay and finish the job because god knows when you’re actually going to get this chance again for a title.

For LSU’s part, the notion that you would withdraw an offer over a delay of a month or two on what would you are aiming for being the the leader of your football team for the long term is so shortsighted and stupid. But NFL teams do something similar every year passing up coaching prospects who could be the right fit for their team because they are in such a rush to get a head start on an off-season that is already far too long to begin with. Like, I know this coordinator is part of a team going to the Super Bowl, but I don’t want to wait an extra three weeks to get my guy…

It’s all asinine and so easy to fix . These sort of decisions shouldn’t even have to be made. Why the hell would the NCAA want the optics of an interim coach coaching one of the best teams in all of college football that season on its biggest stage? Why does the NFL continue to cater to the worst franchises who make the worst decisions instead of just delaying the hiring cycle?

    • rhywun

I only developed a modest interest in the NFL in the last couple years… I was never interested in the college game – not having grown up in that world – and even less so the more it is just a minor league of the NFL now.

      • Brochettaward

Similar only started as a lifelong NFL fan whose interest has waned as they’ve ruined the game and sport with the rule changes nominally done in the name of player safety, but which have really all been about goosing the points scored. In terms of college, it always just seemed obviously lesser to me. Lesser talent, lesser coaching and schematics. I know some people like the variety, but nothing at the end of the day changes the fact that you are watching inferior talent compete. Seeing a QB throw to wide open guys against a grossly outmatched school never excited me much and that’s much of the season.

But the storylines like this in sports interest me. It’s so utterly ridiculous what’s going on with this hire and it’s not a unique or new thing. I remember being disgusted when that dirtbag Rich Rodriguez made a major bowl in 2007 or whatever and fled to Michigan leaving his team high and dry for a major bowl game just months after renegotiating his contract and vowing to stay there. This was obviously well before the days of the transfer portal where players actually had some freedom so all those guys he recruited with false promises were basically fucked over.

I’m torn on what they’ve done to college sports with the NIL money. On the one hand, it was always obviously bogus that a bunch of fat old (and yes, mostly white) dudes were profiting off the backs of the players. Everyone was making money hand over fist besides the guys actually playing. But I somewhat resent the argument that players who were getting free rides to college as mini-stars were somehow being greatly deprived, as well. Like hey fuck you – you’d be a burger flipper if you couldn’t catch a football so maybe show some humility.

But yea, they overall deserve to get paid for things like their likeness and talent if the money is there to do so. And people throw ridiculous amounts of money at college sports.

I’ll never comprehend what would compel some rich fuck to throw money at high schoolers to get them to play for their favorite college team even if they went to that school, but a lot of the dick-measuring behavior the rich engage in baffles me.
