He said it was also a time “when politicians boast of cutting aid”, as he unveiled a streamlined plan to raise at least $23 billion to help 87 million people in the world’s most dangerous places such as Gaza, Ukraine, Sudan, Haiti and Myanmar.

Help us pour money into the world’s most corrupt and dysfunctional shitholes!

    • rhywun

Help us pour money into me and my buddies’ bank accounts and maybe some of it into the world’s most corrupt and dysfunctional shitholes!

      FTFY

      • Fourscore

….”world’s most corrupt and dysfunctional shitholes”….

        What were they before?

        Oh…

  2. kinnath

Thank you for the music link.

    “I’m putting together a team…”

Photo with cartoonish glasses that would make Elton John blush: Check.

    • rhywun

Ah… from the Biden school of “transitioning” – find the absolute worst, anti-freedom, anti-’Murica person for every position.

      Squared.

      • The Other Kevin

You can’t have radical change unless you put some radicals in charge. Should we have radical change? Probably not in that direction.

      • rhywun

I didn’t want “radical change” when The One promised it, and I don’t want it now.

      • Sensei

Hence the Trump RFK Jr. appointment.

I will cuss you until you give moar moniez. I am sure that will work.

They should hit up some MN Somalians.

    • Shpip

I’ve been thinking… one of the reasons that Haiti is such a basket case is a lack of community and entrepreneurial spirit among the populace.

Let’s airdrop a half million Minneapolis Somalis into Port-au-Prince and see if that doesn’t improve both places.

      • slumbrew

Do you want a race of super-grifters? Because that’s how you get a race of super-grifters!

      • Fourscore

Accompanied with the metro politicians. And the guv’ner.

  5. The Late P Brooks

New Yorkers are about to pay a ruinous price for buying this guy’s claims to be focused on “affordability.”

    Okay, Chicken Little.

  6. Shpip

No matter that New York City’s public school system spends more than $40,000 per student, vastly above the national average, even as it largely fails the minority children the left claims to care about.

Something something about making a silk purse…

    • The Other Kevin

It’s amazing how test scores are just waved away as inconsequential, like “There’s so much more to education than how well students can read or do math”. That’s a sure indication of someone who gets a piece of that $40k.

      • rhywun

We will also accept “Testing is racist”.

It is the easiest way to hand-wave away anything.

      • Akira

The American K-12 system has no coherent goal, so any criticism of performance in a particular area is just met with “But there’s more to school than X – there’s Y, Z, W, etc”. It’s a game of whack-a-mole.

      • Threedoor

The goal is to separate the children from their parents.

    • slumbrew

      Festive!

(I was expecting “Now I have a machine gun.”)

    • Threedoor

      You have yourself mounted.

      Kinky.

    • Evan from Evansville

That, right there, is fucking fantastic.

  7. DEG

This is because the weak GDP was largely due to the pharmaceutical sector, which suffered from the pull-forward effects on production and exports in the third quarter as a result of US tariffs policy.

It wasn’t climate change? So there are things climate change can’t do.

    • Brochettaward

Per Google AI if climate change makes tariffs worse:
Yes, climate change makes tariffs worse by
increasing costs for green tech, disrupting clean energy supply chains (like solar, batteries), raising consumer prices (groceries, gas), and creating economic instability, while also potentially worsening the climate crisis by shifting dirty production elsewhere; conversely, “carbon tariffs” (CBAMs) aim to counter this by taxing high-emission imports, but broader trade wars hamper global climate efforts.

      Climate change is life.

      • DEG

        Shit

      • R.J.

        Yes. That is shit.

  8. juris imprudent

    global “apathy”

Apparently even the media couldn’t print that with a straight face.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

I saw Global Apathy open for Minor Threat back in the day.

      • slumbrew

        🎶 🎶 🎶
        I’ve got this great idea
Why don’t we pitch it to the Franklin fucking Mint?
        Fine pewter portraits of
General Apathy and Major Boredom singing
        “Whatever and ever amen”
        🎶 🎶 🎶

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

People who have their own problems will resent having to send their money overseas when they’d rather keep it in their own wallet or at least spend it over here and they’ll demand aid cuts based on that resentment? Who knew?

      • Brochettaward

You know, if the donations were actually accomplishing something rather than just providing an opportunity for the corrupt and connected elites of those countries to skim off the top, people would probably be a bit more willing to accept the idea.

It’s just a money pit and we all know it.

  9. Sensei

Oddly, in many ways I liked Tom Cruise’s “Edge of Tomorrow” better than the manga it borrowed from. I’m surprised it took this long to make a faithful anime.

As seems to be the case with anything WB and anime they insist on casting new voice talent for the lead role. Everybody is top talent. The trailer hasn’t given me great hope.

    • rhywun

I liked the movie. Did not know its source and I am not into that stuff anyway so I’m glad someone did a proper ’Muricanization.

      • Sensei

I get it. I like “Blade Runner” the film better than the book. But the book explains things the movie doesn’t properly or fully explain.

    • Threedoor

I generally don’t like tom cruise but he’s in some good stuff. And that was a good one.

      • EvilSheldon

Tom Cruise is a very good actor, if and only if the director keeps a foot firmly planted on his neck. Edge of Tomorrow was one such example; Collateral was another.

      • Threedoor

I haven’t seen Collateral, I’ll have to check it out. Thanks ES.

      • Gustave Lytton

My appreciation for Cruise grew after Tropic Thunder.

      • slumbrew

Collateral is good. Rare outing as a villain for Cruise.

I’m told his Mozambique Drill was well executed.

    • Threedoor

Aeon Flux but not cool character design.

I’ll probably pass on that one.

  10. juris imprudent

Don’t know this John Rich character, but I kinda like his style.

I mean, Lindsey Graham is not a conservative. Oh, I can’t stand him. He’s a warmonger. He’s one of the most disgusting people I have ever had the displeasure of sitting across a table from. He called me a conspiracy theorist in front of the President of the United States, yelling at me across the table, swishing his wine around, his third glass of Chardonnay.

    • EvilSheldon

That was good. Great, even. I would have gone with, “Shut that cunt’s mouth before I come over there and fuck-start his head,” but I doubt that Trump (or Graham) would have got the reference…

      • Threedoor

        I don’t get the reference.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Lady G did a good job pushing Trump’s judicial appointments through last time around. That’s about the only good thing I can say about him.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

        Oh, craptry music.

    • Threedoor

Milo in the Tucker interview went off on senators drinking their white wine as being a bunch of homos. It’s a pretty good interview.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Don’t know about that John Rich fella but Graham is certainly a shitbag.

      • DEG

I think the recent redistricting combined her district and another Dem district.

I expect she’ll lost the Senate race.

    • Fourscore

      $20 same as downtown

    • R C Dean

She was elected in 2022, which means I don’t think she will qualify for the full lifetime pension.

So we’ve got that going for us, at least.

      • Threedoor

The lifetime pensions went away a long time ago.

      • R C Dean

Ah, I see you are correct.

    • DEG

      Face diapers. AI. Barf.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

It’s like he doesn’t even care about us.

  11. Sensei

Holy shit. The 32GB of memory I bought for $96 now currently retails for $349.

    Thanks AI bubble!

    • Threedoor

      Damn.
I’ve been looking at new desktops. Price is way up and the number of usb ports way down.
