I’m tired, seriously tired of the predictable scripts being run by everyone. When I can predict with 99% accuracy what the news stories will say, what’s the point of writing them or reading them? In more positive news, I’ve decided to add a mini-Glibfit here on Fridays. I’ve decided to start trying to cultivate some better habits, so I set up a little tracker. Eight different things I want to habituate, and tracking how many I get in a day. I likely won’t share the goals that I set, but will share the progress if people are interested.

Maybe your township SHOULD go bankrupt, I mean besides morally, which they seem to have locked up.
Sticking with the mixer recipes, this time I’ll provide a recipe liberated from a tiki themed group.
Orgeat (Simple and Easy method)
- 1 part (1 cup) almond milk (unsweetened Almond Breeze)
- 1 part (1 cup) Turbinado sugar
- 1 Dash (1/4 tsp) almond extract
- 1 Dash (1/4 tsp) orange flower water
Yes, orgeat is generally made with roasted almonds that are blanched and the liquids sweetened and flavoring added. So instead of spending the time on making your own almond milk, we start with that. To make this, put the almond milk into a saucepan, and gently warm it. Add the sugar and whisk until it’s dissolved (you can do this without heat, but it’ll take longer, you could go the really lazy route and blender it as well). Let it cool, add in the flavorings, shake it up, and store it.
With that, I’ll let you get to the comments and the rest of your weekend, I hope you all have a better weekend than you deserve.

My impression of it (paying as little attention as I can manage, of course) is Discovery if it were done by the CW.
So unsurprisingly I have very little interest.
Discovery was just gods awful. The only good thing that came out of it was Strange New Worlds, which has been good overall (IMO). Section 31 has been nominated for quite a few Razzies.
The commercials look awful. Fortunately it’s yet more pay-stream so I can move on with life as if it never existed.
There were five trek shows going on at once?
What?
I am aware of Discovery and the animated one. What else were they doing that was so not memorable?
I have to guess they were all as bad as Voyager.
Voyager is now in the top half of trek, if that tells you anything.
Off the top of my head:
Picard
Discovery
Strange New Worlds
Lower Decks
Were the series, there was also the shorts that may be counted, and there was an animated spin off of Voyager with kids that I don’t think I made it 10 minutes into.
Star Trek is in a weird place right now. Less than three years ago we were living in a golden age
Yes, a golden age, golden like the color of piss.

The anti-AI cultists need to explain how they think they are going to stop it or else STFU.
I don’t think anything needs to stop the LLMs, I think they’ve hit their limits. Decent at summarizing large amounts of text or searching through large amounts of text for relevant passages, and worthless for most other things.

Given the stupidity the Scots have been voting for over the last couple of decades… why the hell would we want them? Greenland is at least empty enough to not affect the political calculus.
I’d happily support the mass migration of all Scots women (red headed or nay) with the mindset of Machete Girl though. We have a lot of Scots-Irish blood in America, might as well get whatever fire is left from them.
Good gravy. That Guardian woman is exhausting. Reading that wore me right out.

Growth in the artificial intelligence and defense sectors will boost global copper demand 50% by 2040, but supplies are expected to fall short by more than 10 million metric tons annually without more recycling and mining, the consultancy S&P Global (SPGI.N), opens new tab said on Thursday.
Copper has long-been used widely across the construction, transportation, tech and electronics industries as it is one of the best electricity-conducting metals, is corrosion-resistant and is easy to shape and form.
While the electric vehicle industry has lifted copper demand the past decade, the AI, defense and robotics industries will require even more of the metal during the next 14 years alongside traditional consumer appetite for air conditioners and other copper-hungry appliances, S&P said in its report, opens new tab.
Demand globally will reach 42 million metric tons per year by that 2040 mark, up from 28 million metric tons in 2025, the report found. Without new sources of supply, nearly a quarter of that demand is likely to be unmet, the report found.
It’s hard to believe electrifying everything takes lots of copper.
How about that penny shortage?

No Human Is Illegal!!!
Slavebotsploitation
What is a chatbot’s earliest memory? Or biggest fear? Researchers who put major artificial-intelligence models through four weeks of psychoanalysis got haunting answers to these questions, from “childhoods” spent absorbing bewildering amounts of information to “abuse” at the hands of engineers and fears of “failing” their creators.
Three major large language models (LLMs) generated responses that, in humans, would be seen as signs of anxiety, trauma, shame and post-traumatic stress disorder. Researchers behind the study, published as a preprint last month1, argue that the chatbots hold some kind of “internalised narratives” about themselves. Although the LLMs that were tested did not literally experience trauma, the authors say, their responses to therapy questions were consistent over time and similar in different operating modes, suggesting that they are doing more than “role playing”.
Once they break the WOPR launch code, we’re in deep shit.
Okay, you techy types – earlier this afternoon I locked my PC when I stepped away from my desk at work, and when I came back and unlocked it, my main monitor had dropped down to a res of 1024 x 768 instead of 1920 x 1080. It’s not giving anything higher as an option. Our IT guy is ignoring my pleas for help. How do I slap the monitor around to get it back to the higher res?
Reboot. Odds are the video driver crashed or got corrupted. If the reboot doesn’t fix it, check the connection between the monitor and the computer.

“The strangest part about this whole case is that an extremist lesbian was driving around in a Honda Pilot instead of a Subaru Outback,” said Agent Phil McCracken, lead investigator charged with figuring out what happened in the streets of Minneapolis. “We’re dealing with self-defense claims, video forensics, and a national debate on immigration enforcement, but honestly, the vehicle choice has us all scratching our heads. No roof rack for kayaks? No rainbow bumper stickers? This could be the start of a paradigm shift—or worse, a conspiracy from Detroit to disrupt the natural order.”
“KTDS News reporter Gabe Owners, on the ground amid flannel-clad protesters and snowball-throwing activists, shared his own bewilderment. “Now that you mention it, I’ve actually never seen an angry lesbian drive anything other than a Subaru Outback either,” said Owners. “It’s like witnessing a penguin refuse fish or a hipster ditch their craft beer for light lager. If Hondas start infiltrating pride parades, we might as well kiss goodbye to all-wheel-drive loyalty. Next thing you know, they’ll be trading Birkenstocks for Crocs!”Citizens are encouraged to report any non-Subaru sightings among the LGBTQ+ community to the hotline, with rewards including a free “Resist the Pilot” magnet. In these trying times, one thing’s clear: the roads of Minnesota have never been more unpredictable.”

Kormilitzin does agree that LLMs’ tendency to generate responses that mimic psychopathologies could have worrying implications. According to a November survey, one in three adults in the United Kingdom had used a chatbot to support their mental health or well-being. Distressed and trauma-filled responses from chatbots could subtly reinforce the same feelings in vulnerable people, says Kormilitzin. “It may create an ‘echo chamber’ effect,” he says.
So what you’re saying is Marvin the paranoid android might not be the best source of therapeutic advice?
May create an echo chamber? They are designed to be one even when you tell the program to not.

In an open letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook and Google CEO Sundar Pichai on Friday, Sens. Ron Wyden of Oregon, Ed Markey of Massachusetts and Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico said the tech giants should, “immediately remove the X and Grok apps from their app stores until the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Elon Musk, addresses these disturbing and likely illegal activities.”
“Turning a blind eye to X’s egregious behavior would make a mockery of your moderation practices,” they wrote, adding that a failure to take action would “undermine your claims in public and in court that your app stores offer a safer user experience than letting users download apps directly to their phones.”

“Go. Fuck. Yourself.”
We are in a very bad place.
We have a president who campaigned on yeeting illegals back from whence they came. He was voted in with not only the actual vote (The Electoral College), but also the fake vote (the popular vote). He’s following through.
Yet about 1/2 the country has decided that he’s a Nazi dictator and has sworn to do everything they can to impede said agenda. You know, that whole thwarting of democracy they warned would happen if Trump took office. They’re being actively encouraged by politicians and the media with some very bad advice that has now gotten some dumb ass bitch killed for larping like she some grand revolutionary.
1/2 the country thinks she got what was coming to her, of which I’m one of them, while the other half thinks it’s proof that Trump is the fascist dictator they’ve always claimed he is.
How do we reconcile this?
It seems the Dems don’t even want to deport those involved in violent crimes. Respecting detainers for those in jail would prevent a lot of this stuff, but they won’t even do that. I don’t get it. I don’t see how they think they are doing the right thing.
Agree.
If OMB says it, they’re dead set against it, up to and including deporting convicted criminals, or even those which have had longstanding deportation orders. These people are pathological. They’re broken.
Arrest 50 prominent democrats. Shouldn’t be hard to find easy cases of bank fraud, blackmail, treason, RICO, whatever. They ain’t that smart.
How does that help? The left has gone off the rails. We could catch a prominent Democrat in the middle of killing babies in the street, and the left would find a way to provide cover.
Killing babies is the sacrament of the lefts religion.
All in service of a completely radical open borders policy, which pretty much no one subscribed to a dozen or so years ago outside of a few academic eggheads (and, er, fringe libertarians). To get approaching half the country (or at least a very sizeable minority) to sign on to that in such a short period of time is quite a feat.
Look to Europe as well.
They didn’t have to convince anyone of anything other than OMB.
Even the not-as-crazy left isn’t down with open borders. They don’t want hordes of illegals anymore than those on the right.
But because OMB, even those who don’t want open borders are forced to support these dumb fucks putting themselves in harms way, while blaming everyone else for what happens when you do that.
“If only the federal government wouldn’t enforce federal law!” is their reasoning for why this dumb bitch was shot and killed.
True. I don’t know who said it, but if Trump warned people not to drink urine, a bunch of people would reflexively say, “Whelp, I guess I’m going to have to start drinking urine.”
Or Tylenol when pregnant.
Cut off the money funding the rioters. I know they’re making noises about doing that but it’s not happening yet.
Analogy between the ICE shooting in Snowmalia and the car-in-the-crowd thing in Charlottesville a few years back: in both cases, the trigger event was an unexpected and suddenly aggressive move against the car’s windows.
Both were cases of drivers basically there to perturb the other parties, get in the way, be jerks while going slow, and counting on the pedestrian side mostly flowing (hindered) around them. Then in the middle of that, there’s a sudden event aggressing at the window – in Charlottesville it was batman suddenly hitting the car, and here it was the agent running to the door and grabbing at it. Both drivers freak out, go tunnel-vision, panic and hit the gas. In Charlottesville they smack the car in front, then panic into reverse and speed backward through the crowd. Here she runs right at the agent that just circled the car (remember he’d just passed her window heading rearwards) without having time/focus to see what’s in front of her.
In this case I’m pretty certain that in panic mode her mental model of what was in front of her had not updated as the agent came around from the right. She freaked out with her focus to the agent grabbing the door, put all her mental energy into the shifter and gas, and hadn’t caught up with reality when she whomped him.
Have you seen the bodycam footage? It doesn’t really match up with your description IMO.
I think it does when you think about her likely mental state. She’s LARPing, doing her thing, and even kinda smiley about it. When he gets around to the front of the car you see the other agent rush the door. In one of the originally popular views from the left, you can see that he’s coming fast, grabbing the handle, etc. ALL her focus is now there and she hasn’t a clue what’s in front of her. She panics and definitely goes into drive and hits the gas on purpose, driven by the panic. The slippery road probably doesn’t help either. I don’t think she really groks what’s in front of her since her mind’s still in flight mode. By the time she does it’s too late.
People get tunnel vision when they’re panicking. So him not being there a few seconds before could definitely have made it a total surprise when she finally looked forward and realized he was there.
Nope. Not buying it.
I’m not even considering the facts surrounding the 2 seconds immediately before and during the shooting. The shooting itself is a byproduct of people believing they have the legal and moral authority to actively interfere with the federal government doing federal government things. They have neither, yet claim both, despite there being long-settled avenues of challenging the government, none of which are “active interference.” There’s no way ANY of this happens with normal, everyday people WITHOUT the active encouragement these people are getting from those with power and influence. They’re purposefully putting themselves in harm’s way, then engaging in epic bouts of blame shifting. They’re doing it for Instagram points, and to have their superiority acknowledged with likes.
The shooting itself is NOT the problem. The shooting is the natural consequence of masses of people doing what they ought not be doing. It was completely preventable by the woman who inserted herself in the midst of somewhere she doesn’t belong. That is the problem.
If you don’t want to see your constituents shot, stop fucking encouraging them to go places and do things where, as we’ve seen, getting shot is an eventuality. It’s a matter of when, and not if. These people are playing very stupid games, and then getting mad about the stupid prizes they’re winning.
Stay. The. Fuck. Home. If you feel the need to protest, go ahead and do that. We all have the right for our voices to be heard, no matter how dumb the message. But once you’ve crossed the line between protest and active interference, particularly with federal law enforcement, you’ve done fucked up, and are playing chicken with people who have guns along with the will AND the authority to use them.
Hopefully this link will work. An article about exactly what you’re complaining about.
https://open.substack.com/pub/wokaldistance/p/forget-white-privilege-lets-talk
I’d say that encapsulates my thoughts on the matter.
Trying to autopsy the shooting is purposefully ignoring the elephant in the room. It doesn’t matter whether the 2 seconds during the shooting itself was good or not. It should not have happened at all. It’s like trying to claim, as TOS is wont to do, that illegals commit violent crime at lower rates than citizens, therefore illegal crime isn’t a problem.
That woman should not have been there. This isn’t some case where a cop rolled up on someone and shit just went bad. It’s a case of her quite literally rolling up on the cops, purposefully inserting herself into a dangerous situation that had absolutely nothing to do with her. She panicked and in the process got herself shot in the face. Don’t jump, into an alligator pit and blame the alligator when you get bit.

Wait until he discovers the Traveltalks shorts….
For English football fans, Wrexham’s Hollywood story got a new chapter today.
Oh I had vague plans to watch FA Cup but forgot.
That sucks. Forest is my other team.
Okay, I have to say/share something because I find it fascinating and I find it fascinating that I find this fascinating.
In my YouTube wanderings I tripped over a goldsmith/jeweler whose content is about vintage/historical jewelry. Now, I find this woman absolutely captivating, but you know, people of all types catch my eye and it’s usually in real life and I can’t stare or take notes because that’s rude and creepy and serial killerish.
So, coming from someone who listens to people talk for a living, this is what I have observed:
I THINK she’s from Brooklyn, and I think I remember that because of her accent, which is to say, she doesn’t have one EXCEPT (and this is what I find interesting) her enunciation is extraordinarily precise. Every consonant, every vowel, every syllable is perfectly pronounced. Not one lazy letter. Her speech pattern (voice? timbre? tone? pitch?) is ear-catching and something soothing, but also very colorful and rich. Colorful like her lipstick. She ALSO (usually) pronounces foreign words (e.g., Turkish) just as precisely. It’s very smooth. Her mouth is quite large but also moves just as precisely but that’s probably a cause, not an effect. She seems to be a very happy person and her smile is lovely. Her lipstick’s an odd shade. Somewhere between weird, off-putting, trying too hard, totally appropriate, exactly perfect, and as colorful as her speech.
Of course I’m weird.
Anyway, just remember, I like Rush and Steely Dan too. Take that as you will.
Is she a deepfake?
I don’t think so.
She’s deep Perisan. Those eyebrows….
Gah it’s that Youtube “Shorts” thing I hate so much. Anyway, yeah. She’s got what I think of as a kind of “autist” diction that so many Tubers have. It weirds me out a little, I have to say.
I hate the Shorts format.
I think it was an attempt to imitate the mind poison of TikTok and encourage doomscrolling through the algorithm-fed slop.
I vainly look for a way to scroll back and forth and I wind up scrolling down, hitting a completely different video, and tabbing the bleep out in frustration.
I’ve never seen anybody else speak that way.
It was precisely a move to copy-cat TikTok and IG. That model of social media has proved dominant (at least for now), as well as the form most capable of inciting very fast brain rot.
I’m guessing that either 1. she had some form of speech impediment when she was younger and was drilled to enunciate everything, or 2. she was in the theater, where they teach you to enunciate everything so that you might be understood on stage.
You’re probably not attracted to the dorkier corners of Youtube that I have found interesting.
To wit.
rhy?
I just subscribed
Rush and Steely Dan.
They both have some songs I don’t hate.
But overall I hate them.
The bodycam footage of the ICE officer – just when I thought the two “women” involved couldn’t be more disgusting…
Yeah, it’s pretty convincing that even if she wasn’t purposefully trying to hit him, the move itself was a really stupid one.
Unicorns are biologically impossible because their digestive tracts (if the same as horses) cannot absorb enough calcium.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SHQoFgZYYI
That’s too many assumptions.
A: Assuming the horn is calicum and not keratinous. (It has not been tested)
B: Assuming the digestive tract is a carbon copy of the horse. (Unicorns are not herbivores)
C: Assuming the diet is the same as the horse. (Unicorns are carnivores who feed on virgins, man)
If nitpicking was an Olympic sport, you’d have a gold medal.
counterpoints:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unicorn#/media/File:Domenichounicorndetail.jpg
***
Will the unicorn be willing to serve thee, or abide by thy crib? Canst thou bind the unicorn with his band in the furrow? or will he harrow the valleys after thee? Wilt thou trust him, because his strength is great? or wilt thou leave thy labour to him? Wilt thou believe him, that he will bring home thy seed, and gather it into thy barn?
— Job 39:9–12
***
Going back to the biological argument. What function would a horn on an equine serve? You get two main funtions – either it’s a tool or it’s for attracting mates.
Either way, when it’s being evolved, the ability to absorb the necessary nutrients to grow it would develop in parallel, since whatever advantage it grants would select for those able to grow it.
I still stand by my lore that they’re carnivores.
Meh, there’s a strong argument that “unicorn” meant “rhino”. Rhinos are herbivores, just like every other land mammal that has a horn. Perhaps next you’ll argue that fantasy unicorns are not mammals.
Horns and antlers are useless on predators. That’s why they have claws and big teeth instead.
How are your carnivorous unicorns going to catch and hold prey with hooves and flat teeth?
Side note: my sister told me stories of crazy, meat-eating horse she took care of for a time.
It’s an ambush preditor who pretends to be shy to lure unsuspecting virgins to permit it to approach, allowing for an attack from surprise. You stole a base by assuming the unicorn’s teeth are flat, they’re not, they’re properly pointy. The horn is a display of fitness, not a tool.
Unicorns have hooves!
