Mass-produced robot CP is muscling out artisanal CP producers. [non-paywalled version] The cure for this problem? You guessed it, more funding.

The images are indistinguishable from real ones, experts say, making it tougher to identify an actual victim from a fake one. “The investigations are way more challenging,” said Lt. Robin Richards, the commander of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children task force. “It takes time to investigate, and then once we are knee-deep in the investigation, it’s A.I., and then what do we do with this going forward?”
Law enforcement agencies, understaffed and underfunded, have already struggled to keep pace as rapid advances in technology have allowed child sexual abuse imagery to flourish at a startling rate. Images and videos, enabled by smartphone cameras, the dark web, social media and messaging applications, ricochet across the internet.

That reminds me, I should go buy that Vanessa Williams issue of Penthouse I found in that antique store. For research purposes only.

You have rod-like structures in your digestive tract. Especially your rectum. Get it? Like dicks, get it? Because you’re gay, get it?

Peering into the jungle of microbes that live within us, researchers have stumbled across what seem to be an entire new class of virus-like objects.

“It’s insane,” says University of North Carolina cell biologist Mark Peifer, who was not involved in the study, told Elizabeth Pennisi at Science Magazine. “The more we look, the more crazy things we see.”

These mysterious bits of genetic material have no detectable sequences or even structural similarities known to any other biological agents.

It would be a shame if you failed to cooperate and your money was found to be…not yours.

A Delaware state court judge has thrown out the 2018 pay package that helped to make Tesla CEO Elon Musk one of the richest people in the world.

Delaware Chancery Court Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick, who oversaw the bench trial that concluded in November 2022, ruled Tuesday that Musk and the Tesla board “bore the burden of proving that the compensation plan was fair, and they failed to meet their burden.”

Child castration good. Better not disagree if you want to keep your kids, got it?

Montana mom and dad who lost custody of their daughter after they refused to transition her gender have told DailyMail.com the ordeal ‘has torn their family apart.’

Krista Kolstad revealed the family’s nightmare began when they received a call that their 14-year-old daughter Jennifer told friends at school that she wanted to commit suicide in August 2023.

Later that night, Child Protective Services (CPS) went to the Kolstad’s home in Glasgow to inspect the house and interview Jennifer, later determining that she needed to transition to get better.

Shapeshifting is a war crime! REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Israeli forces may have violated international law in the raid they conducted inside a hospital in the West Bank that resulted in the death of three Palestinian men both Hamas and the Islamic Jihad claimed as members, several experts told ABC News.

Israeli commandos disguised themselves as doctors and patients to infiltrate the Ibn Sina Hospital in Jenin on Monday and killed three Palestinian men whom Hamas and the Islamic Jihad both claimed as members, Dr. Wisam Sebehat, general director of the Palestinian Health Ministry in Jenin, told ABC News.

One member of the Israeli group had a wheelchair, two carried a doll in a baby carrier, several wore nurses’ clothing, another wore doctors’ clothing and several others were dressed in civilian clothing, Sebehat said. Doctors and patients are granted “protected status” in armed conflict under the Geneva Convention.

Please refrain from noticing. Nothing is strange, nothing is amiss, all is well.

Conspiracy theorists were emboldened when Fox News released a segment baselessly asserting that Taylor Swift is a Pentagon “psy-op” used for political messaging. Not long after, the Kansas City Chiefs secured their place in the Super Bowl following Sunday’s AFC victory, meaning Kelce’s game will likely be attended by Swift.

Hence, right-wing influencers came to the conclusion that Swift’s presence at the Super Bowl is by design, with the intent to secure the election for Joe Biden through Swift’s high-profile endorsement at the winning game.

You don’t want to know how deep this rabbit hole goes, trust me.

      • rhywun

Meh, they’re doing it for $$$. That wouldn’t even be surprising.

The Biden connection may or not be true. It wouldn’t surprise me but it’s not something I gave any thought to before 5 minutes ago.

Agreed. Travis might be a bit above average, but Taylor is not a dumb woman.

Those defenders of freedom (the ACLU) are suing to try to prevent HB 68 from going into effect here in Ohio. What does HB 68 (full text linked in PDF) prevent? Per the article (although the article appears to have been written by an LLM)…

It bans gender affirming care for people under the age of 18.

As a side note, DeWine vetoed this, and the Ohio legislature overrided his veto.

    • "RFK Jr Apologist"

From what I’ve read DeWine did that on behalf of hospitals. If transing kids under 18 is very important to the medical profession then it is fair to say that the healthcare industry is littered with degenerates.

I stopped donating to children’s hospitals because you can’t trust what they are doing with the money. Which is an extremely sad testament to the broken society we live in

Israeli soldiers fighting out of uniform. When has that ever been legal under the Laws of War? In WWII, we executed German soldiers fighting in disguise on the spot.

    • J. Frank Parnell

Well, Hamas would have executed them on the spot if they’d been caught.

    • Zwak says the real is not governable, but self-governing.

Actually, when various German soldiers were brought put on trial, Otto Scorzeny for instance, he was defended by British groups such as the SOE for having done the same thing.

On the final day of the trial, 9 September, F. F. E. Yeo-Thomas, a former British SOE agent, testified in defence of Skorzeny and his operatives wearing American uniforms behind enemy lines, claiming that the Western Allies had actively contemplated carrying out exactly the same kind of “false flag” operations; the Tribunal subsequently acquitted the ten defendants. The Tribunal drew a distinction between using enemy uniforms during combat and for other purposes including deception and were unable to prove that Skorzeny had given any orders to actually fight in American uniforms.

The Elon Musk article makes me furious. His company, his board signed off, it’s his money. “Fair” doesn’t come into it. The state has no say in how he gets paid. Commie judge glows commie red.

Without having read anything but the headlines, I say this: If people are willing to invest in Tesla, knowing the situation, the courts can fuck right off. If “investors” don’t like Musk’s conditions of employment, they should sell their goddam stock and invest in Boeing.

    • kinnath

Attorneys for the shareholders who brought the suit had argued that the package of stock options was excessive and that the directors on Tesla’s board were not truly independent and were too close to Musk to protect shareholders’ interests.

Shareholder lawsuit. That’s fine. That’s how it is supposed to work.

They also argued that the financial targets the company had to hit for Musk to qualify for each of the 12 separate blocks, or “tranches,” of stock were not the “stretch performance goals” as the company told shareholders when seeking their approval of the package. Instead, they argued the milestones were essentially the same as the company’s internal growth projections that were being shared with banks and rating agencies.

Did the company lie or not? Either way it sounds like the company met the internal projections for growth. So, he did his job.

      • Sensei

    Today I learned:

An Enigma machine had 1.6e20 possible settings. A Rubik’s Cube has 0.43e20 possible settings. So cracking the Enigma code was about 4x harder than solving a Rubik’s Cube. Nice try, Nazis.

Of course, actual keyspaces are much smaller than theoretical keyspaces.

    https://youtu.be/wL3uWO-KLUE?si=DiY32uYW8h94mZLY&t=509

A Rubik’s Cube has 6 faces and 3 layers, thus any configuration is no more than 18 (6 x 3 =18) moves away from any other configuration.

I first solved a Rubik’s Cube 16 years ago. It took me 6 months to figure it out.

Judge tosses Disney lawsuit alleging political retaliation by DeSantis

A federal judge on Wednesday tossed Disney’s lawsuit against Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) that accused him and other officials of unconstitutionally retaliating against the company for political reasons.

U.S. District Judge Allen Winsor, an appointee of former President Trump, ruled Disney lacked legal standing to sue DeSantis and that the company’s free speech claims also failed on the merits.

SF – Many thanks for “Algernon’s Lump” earlier today. Since the Lump’s Assumption, Fetterman sounds downright sane on most policy matters.

I haven’t read that Delaware decision yet, mostly because I have my own judicial decisions (some bad, some good) to read and I’m playing catch up.

All goes well in the “suing over vax mandates” world. Someone’s going to crack the PREP Act eventually, and there are already some folks doing some very ingenuous work-arounds under state tort law theories, as well as the Texas Deceptive Practices Act case. There’s a lot of good litigation and the environment continues to improve. Theories and ideas that would have got you laughed or dismissed out of court in 2022 – like that the “vaccines” didn’t work, and it was known they didn’t work at the time people were being fired for not taking them, etc. – that kind of evidence in filings is now viewed very very differently than it was back during the height of the PsyOp.
And then there’s Missouri v. Biden still going forward, so… I don’t know. There’s plenty of (good) work to be done.

Speaking of code breaking, here’s one of my heroes:

    ***
Arthur J. Levenson (February 15, 1914 – August 12, 2007) was a cryptographer, United States Army officer and NSA official who worked on the Japanese J19 and the German Enigma codes.

In a 1999 PBS documentary about the decoding project, Mr. Levenson said the team at Bletchley sometimes deciphered the German messages before German forces in the field could read them. “If it was something hot,” he said, “it’d get out in the field before the German commander got his.” In one case, Mr. Levenson said, the team decoded a message from German military leader Erwin Rommel and determined that German tanks were converging at a spot in Normandy where U.S. paratroopers were planning to jump. “They were going to drop one of the airborne divisions right on top of a German tank division,” Mr. Levenson said in the documentary. “They would have been massacred.” At the last moment, plans were changed, and the paratroopers averted disaster.[5]
    ***

They also serve who only sit and de-garble.

    • Ozymandias

There’s a book called “Churchill’s Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare” that touches more on the saboteur side, but Bletchley place plays a big part in the book.
The amount of brainpower that went into fighting the Axis powers is truly something remarkable. It makes you appreciate just how fearsome the German military machine was, too.
The Allies had to throw EVERYTHING at defeating zee Germans.

        ***
The Battle of Cape Matapan (Greek: Ναυμαχία του Ταινάρου) was a naval battle during the Second World War between the Allies, represented by the navies of the United Kingdom and Australia, and the Royal Italian navy, from 27 to 29 March 1941. Cape Matapan is on the south-western coast of the Peloponnesian Peninsula of Greece.

After the interception and decryption of Italian signals by the Government Code and Cypher School (GC&CS) at Bletchley Park (the decrypted intelligence codenamed Ultra),[1] ships of the Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy, under the command of Royal Navy Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham, intercepted and sank or severely damaged several ships of the Italian Regia Marina under Squadron-Vice-Admiral Angelo Iachino. The opening actions of the battle are also known in Italy as the Battle of Gaudo.

For reasons of secrecy, code breakers at the GC&CS were very rarely informed of the operational effects of their work, but their impact on the Battle of Cape Matapan was an exception. A few weeks after the battle, Admiral Cunningham dropped into Bletchley Park to congratulate Dilly and his girls, with a positive impact on morale:[1] Mavis Batey, one of the code breakers, remembers: “Our sense of elation knew no bounds when Cunningham himself came down in person to thank and congratulate us”.[1] Admiral John Godfrey, the Director of Naval Intelligence, stated: “Tell Dilly that we have won a great victory in the Mediterranean and it is entirely due to his girls”.[1]
        ***

At NSA, I got to read many reports of WW2 and other code breakers. It was a nice fringe benefit.

I’ve been remodeling too. I discovered STEVE SMITH punched holes in sheet rock to access conduit boxes, rather than using a jigsaw or hole saw, like a regular person. I had to patch up one area just to hang a new light from the ceiling, it was beat up so bad.

There’s an X-Men superhero named Cypher.

    ***
Cypher is a mutant who possesses a superhuman intuitive facility for translating languages, spoken or written, human or alien in origin. His superhuman skill is extended to his great facility in deciphering codes and computer languages, and he is also able to read inflection and body language which allows him to understand the vast subtext of a conversation. Rather than working the problem out step by step in his conscious mind, he instead subconsciously solves the problem. Hence, he can reach the correct solution by means that appear to be leaps of logic, and he himself may not be consciously aware of the entire process by which he reaches the right answer.

According to Pam from Archer, he is also the gayest X-Man.

    Well, this is exciting.

But as Smith prepares for trial in Washington and southern Florida, defense attorneys have uncovered a stunning trove of evidence that contradict claims that the Biden White House had nothing to do with the unprecedented federal prosecution of a former president and Biden’s GOP rival in the 2024 general election. Emerging evidence also shows collaboration between White House officials and Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ office related to her RICO indictment against Trump and several associates.

It’s a damn shame that Janice Rogers Brown is 74. Then again, that’s only three years older than Merrick Garland.

    More of the same

oyota and General Motors are telling the owners of about 61,000 older Corolla, Matrix, RAV4 and Pontiac Vibe models to stop driving them because their Takata air bag inflators are at risk of exploding and hurling shrapnel.

The urgent warning Monday covers certain Corolla compact cars and Matrix hatchbacks from the 2003 and 2004 model years, as well as the RAV4 small SUV from 2004 and 2005. Also covered are about 11,000 Pontiac Vibes from 2003 and 2004, which are essentially the same as the Matrix and were made at the same California factory. Most of the vehicles are in the U.S.

“If the air bag deploys, a part inside is more likely to explode and shoot sharp metal fragments, which could cause serious injury or death to the driver or passengers,” Toyota said in a statement.

The government loves you and wants you safe.

I checked out the closest ammo store to me today. They sell 50 cal among other things. The closest shooting range is an hour away, but plenty of people shoot in their backyards here. I hear gunshots once in a while. I live across the street from a funeral home and sometimes there are 21 gun salutes for military funerals.

During my 10 days as a math teacher at a Florida public high school, my proudest moment was returning to the classroom after a bathroom break and seeing that one of my students had written on the board “talk more about WW2, dinosaurs, and gay sex”.

    • The Gunslinger

So which one of the three did you start with?

      • Derpetologist

WW2. It was a segue into the mils of an artillery compass and from there, I talked about angles.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

What were the mathematics involved with gay sex? Asking for a friend.

      • Derpetologist

I spoke to them about a survey where I read that the average man claimed 6 sexual partners and the average woman claimed 2. I explained with diagram that this was mathematically impossible because there are equal numbers of men and women, and that every time a man has sex with a woman, a woman has sex with a man. Thus, the average number of partners for men and women must be equal. In addition to being an amusing way to teach math, it also shows that many people lie about their sexual behavior, which is something I think teenagers ought to know.

My students asked me to repeat the scenario with various conditions including gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people. I was able to show that the average number of patterns for men and women must be the same. Of course, I used some colorful adult language to explain this. And that is how I got called into the principal’s office as an adult.

    Niners 31 Chiefs 24

For those who like prop bets wager on Travis not proposing to Taylor at the end of the game. Losing takes any shine off that sort of thing. Maybe in the offseason.
I was thinking about why the Brock Purdy storyline isn’t bigger. Kelce is getting a shit ton more publicity and as I said before that Purdy is the best sports story I a decade. Most players picked in the last draft spots never play a single snap and those that do play parts of games. I think there may have been a kicker picked last that had a halfway decent career. I’d say it’s partly the East Coast sports media bias. If Purdy played for NY or NE we’d be hearing much more about him. The other big reason is that it shows a complete failure by all the well paid experts. Even the Niners somewhat miffed it. He was playing 3rd string and if Lance had never gotten a season ending injury (and then Jimmy G) we may never have seen him in a real game. How many other potential incredible talents have we never seen play in the NFL. It’s not something they want fans to think about.

    • R.J.

I will lay a bet he never proposes. One beer.

      • KSuellington

Heheh. You’re on RJ. We will give it one year from the Super Bowl. Probably sooner tho as her clock is ticking mightily. Tay Tay wants some baybays.

      • KSuellington

Heheh. Her uterus is indeed aching.

If the Chiefs do happen to win I’d put good money down they will be engaged in the week or so following.

      • Mojeaux

No. It’s a publicity stunt. I will not let that go unless they actually do get married.

      • KSuellington

I will amend that RJ bet and pay out if they aren’t engaged by summer. This time next year she will have a bun in the oven.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

As for Brock, he probably needs to take a knee for the media to say how wonderful he is.

      • KSuellington

Heheh. What a contrast to that frigging clown.

Yup, Niners D has not been as great as they have been paid to be the second half of the season. But they’ve largely gotten it done anyway. This was the SB matchup I most wanted. Purdy is going to stop the Chiefs dynasty in a couple weeks.

  37. Mojeaux

The Chiefs hatery. I am unable to even.

    • KSuellington

I had no opinion of Kelce other than he’s a great tight end before this season. Now I think he is an ass and he can take his Pfeizer money and piss off with Taylor. I very much want to see them both cry. The fact that they are playing the Niners in a rematch only makes that ten times more. Should be a great Super Bowl.

      • Mojeaux

I’m unhappy about the Pfizer thing too.

    • KSuellington

And Mahomes seems like a good dude who is amazingly talented, the best QB since Brady. He is married to a chick that screams “high school cheerleader that thinks she is far hotter than she is”. I hope this is the end of their reign.

      • Mojeaux

Brittany Mahomes was almost as trashy as Jackson Mahomes. She caught a lot of heat for letting loose a bottle of champagne over fans when it was freezing out. She’s been downright staid (relatively) since, so somebody must have taken her in hand. Mama Mahomes wasn’t much better, tbh.

Jackson Mahomes … I wouldn’t piss on him if he were on fire. He caused trouble at a restaurant here and then sexually assaulted the restaurant owner/manager when she tried to get everything squared up. When she filed charges, people wouldn’t come to her restaurant and it closed down, which is fucked up. So she recanted or something. Mind you, the episode was on tape. She’s clearly trying to push him away from her. If I were Patrick, I’d either encourage people to go back to her restaurant or pay her damages or both.
