Well, it’s Good Friday, for some people, this is a very important and holy time. I’m no longer one of those people, so I hope I don’t offend any who are. It also appears that here in Cleveland, you need to lock your car doors or someone will leave Journey tickets in them. On the plus side, I got my relocation for Browns tickets and managed my goal of shifting down into the Dawg Pound. Depending on how we’re looking, I may be leaning on you fine commenters to help design a mask for me to wear.
In entertainment news, Daredevil: Born Again did not stick the landing for either the girlfriend or me. I enjoyed the most recent season of Black Mirror (but I’m a sucker for anthology shows), and the Wheel of Time series has improved massively after the rough first season. The amount of changes from the books means that I’m aware of the broad strokes, but not sure how they’re going to pull it off.
A pretty decent piece on a subculture I like.
For those unaware, Monday is also a holiday.
Personally, I blame the parents.
So glad they decided to make the CV an NP.

I’ve had to explain to too many co-workers that computers don’t didn’t do random.

Nope, still the same shit, different day.
Feel free to find your shame here. (Honestly, I’m surprised mine isn’t higher.).
For the cocktail this week, I’ll be sticking with core drinks. This week:
The Daiquiri
- 2 parts (2 oz) rum
- 1 parts (1 oz) lime juice
- 1 parts (1 oz) simple syrup
This is a core recipe for a basic sour. Two parts strong, one part sweet, one part sour. Add everything to your shaker, and shake until integrated and chilled. Strain it out into a chilled glass (over fresh ice if you would like), and enjoy. Now, one thing that this does not have that is included in a traditional sour is an egg white. You can add that to a Daiquiri if you would like, but it’s not standard. It would add some body, as well as some foam. To make that change, you would add a step of dry shaking (no ice) everything before adding the ice. Now, one standard substitution that I make is to use agave syrup instead of simple syrup for any tequila based drink. I enjoy the pairing. If you must, you can garnish with a lime wedge.
With that, thank you all for sticking around to the end, and I hope you enjoy your Easter weekend (if you’re one of those Eastern Orthodox, come back here in a week or two).

What was that article? Why does it exist?
That was the punknadian version of TDS.

They are? He is?
Meh.
Same… I could have bought a used car — but at least not a new one after probably 1992 or so. Over 14 years and with PC gaming one of my past times… that could have been much much worse.
Mind you this is since September 18 2003 – so 7882.5 days, $1.34/day, ~$490/Yr
Not a lot given how much I game.
Almost no shame on Steam. I don’t use it much. Now if TUBI or Pluto does the same thing, I will be in trouble.
Yours is slightly over 2x mine. “Member since April 11, 2010.” – oof.
Oh well, still no shame at all.
The 2:1 skew between post 2015 and pre-2015 tells me one thing – when I have money, I am more able to buy video games.
Oh and I think I won the showcase showdown – my guess was within $250 without going over.
I didn’t try to guess because I realized that over decades my ability to track spending mentally was not that great.
I’ve only been on there a little over a year. Very mild spending.

Speaking of shows… I stumbled over something last night when I finished churning through the Bosch sequel (not bad, if you allow for the various egregious logical hiccups along the way).
SS-GB
One episode down and I haven’t quit in disgust. I’m kind of a sucker for those sepia-toned alternate history period pieces. Spoiler alert- the Krauts won and have occupied Limeyland.
Hmm… sounds interesting. I’d quibble with the premise as summarized on Wikipedia on one point — if the Germans were to set up a UK puppet state in ’41, the easiest thing to do would be to bring back Edward VIII.
I’m sure the Beeb didn’t want to provoke The Family though.
The festival is traditionally celebrated by boys throwing water over girls they like. Sometimes they also strike them with pussy willows.
Queue feminist outrage….
…. over not having boys throw water over them or strike them with pussy willows.
That’s a thing in my wife’s country too. My kids partook when they were younger, but because they are Americans they got off easy, so to speak.
Basically the girls pretend to not like it, but are upset if they don’t get admirers.
When the weather is cold, getting water dumped on you probably isn’t fun, but there’s alcohol involved, even for the kids, so it’s fun unless someone is particularly sadistic.
What about Catherine the Great?
She was too horse?
I’m more ashamed of how much time I spent on the games than how much I spent. With all the time I spent on the various iterations of Hearts of Iron I could’ve gotten a PhD.
Thats why I quit, I remembered the sunlight and green grass.
/Also why I moved to San Diego

Just checked my Mom’s account. She’s still getting her Social Security deposits and even got a small increase in January. What’s this destruction they are talking about?
Scott Adams has a good idea, he thinks Trump should create The Department of Imaginary Problems for things like this.
lol I didn’t make it past “Yes, just like the stiff-arm salute guy.”

Those are rookie numbers. You have to get those numbers up.
Pirating them, eh? Tsk tsk tsk…

This is hilarious, but will there be arrests?

Speaking of spending, it seems my son-in-law has racked up not a $300 bill, but an $801 bill from international calls and data usage while on deployment. My daughter is freaking out a bit.
Oof. A painful lesson.
One thing I’ll say about T-Mobile, they’re very clear when you’re in roaming, and have a feature to lock down the phone to their limited roaming (3G most places) unless you’re on wireless.
Ouch.

Nice store youse gots heah…
Target CEO Brian Cornell met with the Rev. Al Sharpton in New York on Thursday as the retailer faces calls for a boycott and a slowdown in foot traffic that began after it walked back key diversity, equity and inclusion programs, the civil rights leader told CNBC Wednesday.
The meeting, which Target asked for, comes after some civil rights groups urged consumers not to shop at Target in response to the retailer’s decision to cut back on DEI. While Sharpton has not yet called for a boycott of Target, he has supported efforts from others to stop shopping at the retailer’s stores.
“You can’t have an election come and all of a sudden, change your old positions,” Sharpton told CNBC in a Wednesday interview ahead of the meeting. “If an election determines your commitment to fairness then fine, you have a right to withdraw from us, but then we have a right to withdraw from you.”
Bring back quotas. Make a big fat donation to our ‘civil society advocacy” organization. Pay tribute or suffer the consequences.
“Jive turkey, pay up”
If Target listens to that moron, Target gets what it deserves.
Agreed.
I am so glad I don’t work for Big T anymore.
In an alternate universe where sanity prevails, Target CEO Brian Cornell tells that grifting pumpkin head rioter to go piss up a rope and nothing else happens. And he doesn’t waste his time patiently explaining to the moron that the majority of DEI actions are not legal.
I’d settle for the CEO’s secretary continually telling Sharpton “he’s in a meeting” and never returning his calls.

Sometimes I feel bad for my deluded friends who have TDS. Then I remind myself that a year ago people were being targeted for the same political views I have, and we were getting closer and closer to a nuclear war with Russia. I spent 4 years being afraid, now it’s their turn.
His worry goes well beyond the ups and downs of the stock market, as wild as those swings have been. It’s the complete upending of a global order that had defined his life to date.
Oh, no, it’s the end of the globalist egghead consensus!
I think that deserves an, “Anyway…”
They’re concerned in cloud cuckoo land
All told, it costs about $20,000 to care for a baby for a year in the US, according to BabyCenter. And thanks to the slate of new tariffs announced on April 2 by the Trump administration and imposed in recent days, it’s about to get a lot more expensive.
Trump reversed some tariffs on Wednesday after markets plunged, but went on to increase tariffs on China to 125 percent, while maintaining a 10 percent baseline tariff on goods from nearly all other countries. The tariffs will affect a wide variety of goods, but experts and advocates have voiced special concern about baby items like cribs and strollers, many of which are manufactured overseas, often in China. These items aren’t optional: “The baby has to sleep somewhere,” Martha Gimbel, executive director and co-founder of the Budget Lab at Yale, told me.
If your baby can’t sleep in a thousand dollar crib you are a failure as a human being.
Then it’s a good thing they all got sterilized.
And yet somehow, about half the countries in the world, almost all of them much poorer than the US, have above replacement fertility rates. It’s almost as though that it doesn’t cost that much to keep people alive in the vast majority of cases. Or that it’s not that hard to take care of babies or children.
Even after Trump’s partial reversal, parents could have to contend with myriad price increases for smaller items, from onesies to blueberries. The Budget Lab, which analyzes the impact of federal policy proposals, has estimated the tariffs announced as of April 2 could cost an average household $3,800 per year, or $73 per week, a cost that could hit families especially hard during the early years of parenthood, already a time of enormous financial upheaval.
Does it hurt when you pull those numbers out of your ass?
I’m sure they have some really solid modelling to produce that sort of accuracy. 73 smackers a week; not 72, not 75.
“enormous financial upheaval”
That was my favorite part
How does that compare with inflation the past few years? Which was totally not a financial disaster.
I was told.

In every geometry book I’ve ever seen, point, line and plane are called the 3 undefined terms.
Then they immediately define them.
Some people have a way with words. Math folk not have way.
Kind of the same deal with imaginary numbers.
Yeah, I know they mean they’re undefined in the mathematical sense that there is nothing simpler. Still, the name sucks.

Boo. He’s already been deported sixteen times.
If he gets caught crossing the border again, he should be shot on the spot. In fact, a three strikes rule would probably do wonders for serial offenders.
3 strikes only works if you build enough prisons.
