Here it is, we’re at the end of the month. I’ll be heading out the door shortly for a show tonight (Less Than Jake is the headliner), but I owe you some links and drinks first.
In local news, the state appears to have cut the legs out from under the city of Cleveland in their quixotic battle against the Browns moving to the suburbs.
Mildly related to the previous story, this is an interesting finding.
For those who wish to stay on Windows 10, there’s a way to extend security support.
I believe I have identified the exact post when Poltifact went to farce.

No. Just stop. You cannot improve upon perfection.
I thought this happened years ago. I had the good fortune to meet him a couple of times years back at a convention down Columbus way.
That’s a great communication system you’ve got there. Be a shame if something happened to it.
I bet she started with tadpoles years ago.
Women, don’t you know that this is important to you!

I feel a bit guilty hoping for the pirates to get busted, but this was clearly commercial use and not personal use.
It’s never too late to learn first aid.
Amazingly, my friend group talked about none of the big concerns. We were more interested in girls we thought we had a chance with, what shows we were going to, where we were going to meet, and who had weed.
The government will not keep your kids away from porn, you likely will be unable to keep your kids from porn, but you should try.

I’m glad we’ve seen TresCool posting this week.

With that, let’s get to the drinks.
Negroni Sbagliato
- 1 part (1 oz) Campari
- 1 part (1 oz) Sweet Vermouth
- 1 part (1 oz) prosecco/sparkling wine
This is a variant on the Negroni (which itself may be a variant of an Americano), which lightens the drink up by swapping out gin and replacing it with sparkling wine. This leads to a lower ABV drink, and another for drinking through the day. To make this, either pre-batch your Campari and vermouth, or put them into a pitcher with ice, and stir until chilled. Strain into a glass (rocks with fresh ice or a flute/coupe if you would prefer it up), top with the prosecco, and give a brief stir to combine. Garnish with an orange twist if you would like.
And since next week is the Fourth, I’ll set you up with a bonus cocktail today. Or rather, the name of something you can annoy bartenders with, or make at home.
The Miami Vice
- 1 part (~4 ounces) Frozen Pina Colada
- 1 part (~4 ounces) Frozen Strawberry Daquiri
Look, I don’t expect you to make this at home unless you’re really committed to it for a theme, and I linked a recipe that tries to minimize the mess and cleanup. The core concept is simple, make two frozen drinks, and layer them together into one glass. Personally, I eschew the blender based frozen drinks for ones made in your humble ice cream maker, which could provide an idea as to how you could have batches of frozen drinks already stacked up in your freezer.

With that, I hope you all have the weekend you desire.

So what happens with Windows Backup? All your shit ends up on the cloud? No thank you.
You call that a FIrst? THIS is a First!
I know with OneDrive you can choose which folders to put on the cloud but I don’t know if that’s restricted in “Backup”. The article seems to imply this but who the hell knows with today’s journalisming.
Windows sure does seem like it is hell bent on losing all its customers.
I’ll switch over to linux 100% of the time before I upgrade to Windows 11. (I’m dual booting now)
Zohan is not a communist. He is just fervently devoted to a collection of policies designed to weaken society in advance of an eventual communist takeover.
I am not going to stand here quietly while the good name of democratic socialism is dragged through the mud!

Recently I learned:

[Stalin’s] mugshot was taken in 1911 when he was arrested for the second time. In 1908 he was arrested for the first time by the Okhranka for revolutionary activities.
After seven months in prison, he was sentenced to two years’ exile and was sent to the village of Solvychegodsk. After seven months in exile, he disguised himself as a woman and escaped on a train to St. Petersburg.
***
Now there’s something that deserves the Ms. Doubtfire treatment.
Holy shit, I remember that.
What a fucking clown show. And yes, they are straight-up commies.
The first link is priceless. Every single person there desperately trying to make the whole meeting about MEEEEEEEEE!
Wow, I didn’t know Stalin was trans.
“Amazingly, my friend group talked about none of the big concerns.”
Same here. I graduated HS in 1990. The Gulf War was like a movie you watched on TV, with Wayne’s World on SNL getting in on the act. The other things people didn’t really care about, outside of Rush Limbaugh on AM radio. Mom was still a nurse, dad had retired due to a heart attack. I had a job tutoring at college. I don’t remember being particularly terrified.
Five years behind you here. Dad worked second shift, mom worked as a substitute teacher. Dad was a huge dittohead, and I picked up the beginnings of political thought there, and saw enough inconsistencies that I went libertarian back in high school. I mean, there were jokes about it, being in a college prep private high school meant that the students were generally more right leaning than the teachers.
The two I remember the most were a group of students wearing black armbands when Clinton was elected, and the dollar bills folded into ribbons being worn as pins. Both got the ire of the teachers, which caused more students to do it.
No other reason….
Also seems she was afraid of her own shadow and wished everyone else was a big pussy too
The only memories of mom and dad at that time were them making dinner or doing yard work, or watching TV. They asked about my grades once a semester. I know they cared, they just weren’t up in my business like a helicopter parent.
The Guardian complaining about the shit world they helped create is fucking rich.
I graduated in 2006. We talked about that stuff, but it was more of a game than a reality. I remember trying to outdo my friends in coming up with the most perverse and convoluted orgy scenes to make our Catholic friends uncomfortable about their pedo priests.
I also remember having some laughs about Bill Clinton.
My mom was a dittohead, so I was exposed to politics that way, but it wasn’t something I took seriously until I was married and had kids.
Holy cow that stadium mockup looks awfully ambitious. I bet the stadium will look nothing like that, all the space around it will actually be parking lots instead of hotels and restaurants and people wandering around in food comas, and it will still cost $2 billion.
Some cities need to collectively band together to tell the NFL to fuck off.
Oh, it’s all smoke and dreams right now. I expect there to be some hotels there, just because it’s right next to the airport. I also expect it to come in over budget, and not generate the revenue that the suburb expects.
But it’s also walking distance from my house.
We built a soccer stadium for the Minnesoda team. It was built in an area that wasn’t the greatest, but we were all assured that the stadium would spark all sorts of investments.
Everyone would want to build a hotel or a bar or a restaurant near the stadium.
Been a decade and the stadium is still surrounded by parking lots and the same crappy neighborhood.
Judge Karen is going to need to speak to a manager, or find a real job.
PolitiFact ran similarly rated articles when people like Trump et al were called Nazis right?
0 fact checks on Nazis and 2 on facist, but those were in support of Antifa.
This is where Trump shines. Or rather the media is just really fucking retarded. Make a slightly exaggerated statement that most people would agree with and let the media twist themselves into pretzels to show it’s not 100% true. Just like 90% true.
I’m with RC Dean on his selection of the best fact check ever being when they declared that the rumor of Haitians eating pets to be 100% fake.
Why?
Because the verified instance of Haitians eating cats was in a town 15 miles away from the original story. Obviously that makes the story just a huge Trump lie.
Football, or other pro sports hold the gun to local governments heads and in turn, local governments hold the gun to their people.
When the Vikes were having a tantrum to get their new stadium, I was firmly in the “Let them move if they want to”.
In the days of streaming who cares where the games are played? I watched the Vikes just fine from Japan last year. If they had moved to LA, I would have kept following them.
Why should an entire state be forced to pay for those who want to go watch the game live?
* I’ve been stunned that the stupid pull tabs to pay for the state’s contribution worked so well. Much better than the stupid sales tax that was implemented on just one county to pay for the Twins stadium (and which is already being set up to be extended forever).
random thought
I know Trump wanted to do a military parade after seeing one in France, but I also suspect he wanted to honor the Army with a big parade to negate the accusation that he called dead soldiers “suckers” and “losers”. I don’t believe for a moment he said that.
The frogs had a band play Daft Punk for Trump. I’m serious.

My neighbors gave me a gift card for feeding their cats. OK, but now I have to drive for 45 minutes to use it. Eh, it’s the thought that counts. At least I can spend it on beer and wings. Never been to BW3 before. I could also use it at Red Lobster, but the Gainesville one closed some time ago. How does a seafood restaurant go out of business in Florida?
Id hardly call Red Lobster a seafood restaurant
QUIET, YOU!
Those cheddar biscuits are 100% wild caught and dolphin safe!
There are/were no Red Lobsters in New England. You may draw your own conclusions from that.
Massholes hate dolphins?
Florida would be the epitome of a place where a “seafood” restaurant could go out of business.
What, do you think the old timers really want fresh clam? They only say so!

Eh, the people with real money on the line can’t be trusted to understand what is going on.
Politics is downstream of culture, culture is downstream of economics.
I’ve met those people…. Like everything a bell curve.
That article is a textbook example of “you can’t argue with crazy”.
Their fundamental understanding of this stuff is so completely wrong that it’s a waste of time to even try arguing with them.
It’s just bananas.
I’ll play devil’s advocate. Liberal women are really into the trans stuff, so attacking that feels like an attack on their identity. Maybe they are right.
They are? I really dont know. It doesnt seem like something that would appeal to them but then what do I know. I am practically a shut-in and fairly out of touch with….everyone. If it weren’t for this site I probably wouldn’t know who the president is.

Sort of cocktail related, in honor of Neph, but my wife just got a “memory” from back when I would still post on Facebook (it’s been years), right after our wedding:
That was for 92 people. In 5 hours. Not all of whom even drank.
TBF, it was a outside affair on a warm June day. But still. (It was a good time).
Pikers.
There was an article I read about prohibition that touched on exactly how much earlier Americans drank. It was a staggeringly large amount.
Gotta have role models.
I had forgotten this gem.

Get voters drunk on Election Day
In the past, politicians used a tradition called “swilling the planters with bumbo” to get voters drunk on Election Day. Bumbo was a type of rum, and it was a common tactic to win elections.

Punches both sound good, but not so low carb, sadly.
Same goes for the Negroni variants I love – Campari has about 15g per 1.5oz 🙁

Mezcal & soda, here I come…
Well that’s what was on the government expense report. The actual amount was about 1/4 that.
I believe some Ancient Greeks had a policy of arguing about issues twice, once drunk and then sober. (It could be the other way ’round.)
Oddly, that seems rather harmonious, allowing for statesmanship and Fuck You Harder insults.
I strongly approve and would support its modern use. Hopefully, live. (Also: The PPV on that could be big. Could escalate to bouts or duels. Or a fucking cavalry charge, who knows.)

Mamdani describes himself as a democratic socialist, which in the U.S. generally refers to generous social insurance programs such as heavily subsidized child care and high tax rates to pay for education and health care.
More like National Socialism, really.
“Mamdani is NOT a communist,” wrote Anna Grzymala-Busse, Stanford University professor of international studies, in an email to PolitiFact. “Communism involves a centrally planned economy, with no market forces. Prices and quantities are set by a central government authority. There is no democratic political competition, and instead a single party rules the country. He is not calling for any of this.”
He doesn’t even carry a Party membership card, as far as you know.
Back in the day, the Birchers I knew would have labelled him a “comsymp” at the very least. But then so was everyone who wasn’t a Bircher.

But yeah, they support another commie policy. Shocking.
Definitely going to try that.
The Americano may be up your alley as well, just replace the sparkling wine with club soda.
Make it at home. Don’t ask for it in a bar. “Negroni pullleaaze” will get you into trouble.

Somehow I managed to go this long without finding out about Burning Shed. I know there are some fellow prog music dorks out there…Ron?
Oh, I did not need yet another music source.
I can highly recommend the latest multi-disc release of Songs From the Wood. Also the new-ish release of A, with the mixed concert/music video DVD. That remains my favorite Tull video, but I’ve never seen a bad Tull show.
My ‘peak prog’ was seeing Yes opening for ELP in Detroit. Yes basically performed The Yes Album and followed it with Fragile. ELP responded by playing their first album and followed up with Tarkus. Then some Pictures at an Exhibition for the encore. I’m old so memory is fuzzy, but I think Fragile and Tarkus had yet to be released, or had only just been released.
$5.00 general admission. Sigh. The good old days, some of which were great old days 😉
Looks interesting, definitely looks worth checking out

The right of birthright citizenship will continue in Colorado — even as a Supreme Court ruling on Friday could allow President Donald Trump to at least temporarily end the practice in other states amid an ongoing legal battle, according to Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser.
“You’re protected. And if people are born here in Colorado, they still will benefit from birthright citizenship,” Weiser said in an interview with Colorado Matters.
With the court’s 6-3 decision delivered by Justice Amy Coney Barrett, the U.S. may soon be allowed to carry out an order from President Donald Trump to end the practice of birthright citizenship in much of the country — but not in Colorado and certain other states — for children born after Feb. 19.
Sure, whatever you say.
The court reporter on NPR was almost in tears as she tried to describe the outright cruelty of this ruling. She was going on and on about how some kids’ birth certificates would be all goofy.

There, everybody’s happy.
Listening to Jordan Peterson on Rogan. It’s really good. Peterson *nails* the climate scare being used as an apocalyptic threat to intimidate and control people, all to control them. And how that perpetuates, and the power itself becomes the guiding motivation.
I’ve listened to some Rogan before but it’s becoming more of a habit. Trump certainly, and Rogan as well, are key in the wrecking ball to the Left’s cultural take-over. It’s *refreshing* to hear people actually talk about serious shit. Hats off.
Personally, the idea of inflicting a “90s summer” on children makes me anxious. It’s only because I was there. As a flanno-wearing, Nirvana-bothering resentful ex-smoker whose character retains something of a black beer tang, I am gen X, purely distilled. It has been affirming to watch younger generations lambast us as “the worst generation” on TikTok but, sadly, in this Era of Failure to Ask Follow-up Questions, the youngsters haven’t been asking us why.
90s summers were great for me once I found a job. Maybe that was all the author needed.
The 90s were an amazing time to grow up. Internet”s getting popular, Calvin n Hobbes, when Simpsons was *outstanding,* great film and music, no Soviets and national shit was largely good, a *massive* decrease in crime seen in the 70s and 80s…
… then 9/11 happened. I was a freshman in high school. Then everything changed. Hrm.
*I was a late-bloomer, but I had certainly stormed the puberty gate by then. So ya knows. *Pebble receives glare* Everything else in the world changed.

I went through my gasoline receipts from my FreedomFest 2025 road trip.
The car I took takes premium. So I only bought premium on the trip.
The Kum & Go in Sioux Falls, SD and a service plaza on the Will Rogers Turnpike in Vinita, OK were tied for the cheapest gas. $3.199/gallon. The Kum & Go’s premium was ethanol free.
The most expensive gas was in Pacific Grove, CA. $5.999/gallon. As a side note, premium in the other parts of California were in the mid-4s per gallon.
