The joys of summer in north east Ohio. Big temperature swings, heat, humidity, thunderstorms, and festivals. That’s not even getting into the cook-offs and cultural festivals, of which there’s competing ones almost every weekend. Last weekend, the girlfriend and I went downtown for some of the festivities around Superman. Met the surviving Siegels and Shusters, the girlfriend now has a picture (taken with a green screen) showing her flying over the Terminal Tower, and we caught the movie. As I stated in the comments, we were pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it. But Superman is still no punk.
This is, unfortunately, a common belief here in the state.

I’m still going to stick to lighter summer drinks, here’s one that does require an ingredient that may be a bit tough to find, but if you substitute rum, I won’t tell anyone.
Caipirinha
- 1 lime
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 ounces cachaça
Alright, for those who don’t know cachaça is a Brazilian spirit made from sugar cane (hence the rum substitution option). There’s some that make it here to the states, and I’m sure those who have made the trek down to South America will be able to recommend some brands, I don’t have many options here in Ohio. Something else you may notice in this drink is it’s going to be potent. To make this drink, you cut the lime into eighths, put them into a glass, and gently muddle with the sugar. The goal here is to bruise the skins, release the juice, and mix it into the sugar. Then add your ice and liquor, and give a couple of quick stirs with a bar spoon to combine. Alternatively, you can make this in a shaker, and dump the shaker into a glass, but keep the amount of ice being used in mind.
With that, I’ll leave you with a song that has some special meaning to me around this time of year.

Ohioans’ practice of using the left lane as a regular driving lane, and having speeders pass where they can, is a rational adaptation to these circumstances.
I’d argue it’s best to give up on the idea of the passing-only left lane, as many Ohioans already have.
Any time i see a car in the left lane on a deserted stretch of interstate I think to myself, “That guy must be from Ohio.”
This is why feedback is important.

In a rural setting, the left lane is for passing.
In an urban setting, the left lane is for through traffic and the right lane is for people getting on and off the freeway.
When you get beyond two lanes, the inside most lane is for passing during light traffic and becomes the fast through traffic at peak hours. You can’t just leave a lane open when traffic load is high.

I think the Court was savvy enough to see that ruling otherwise would put them in the position of micromanaging the executive branch. Each branch (need I say, co-equal branch) has a specific zone where it can assert primacy. The courts can resolve disputes. The President can administer the executive branch. While you can certainly cobble up a dispute about his administration, that doesn’t mean the courts can administer the executive branch.

I hate right side passing. I will give someone hanging out in the fast lane plenty of time to move over. Unless they have an Ohio plate, then I just change to the right and pass as soon as possible.
The left lane is mostly for reckless speeding, which is why I stay out of it. It’s also for passing and then immediately turning or taking an exit.
Such things make driving the speed limit in the right lane a prudent practice.
