The front page picture is a small stream at 7,000′ I fished last week. I was landing lunker fingerlings, but it just didn’t matter. In other news, summer is waning and the harvest has begun. The beauty above is probably the biggest tomato I’ve ever grown. Time to start processing produce.
But first, we must Link.
That’s not fucking racist at all. Nope, not at all.
FAFO. The article is ambiguous about what their involvement was.
But then we have Bill traveling with a defibrillator.
Keep it going, and add a zero, or two.
Shitty news day full of much derp, but y’all might enjoy this.
That’s it for me. Time to make some tomato sauce. Peace out, Glibbies.

That is one funky looking vagina.
Funky Vagina was a side project for L7 I think.
I remember that song, Funky Cold Vagina.
That was a big oops!
Cheers! And tall alcoholic devices.
24 ox Milwaukees Diet Beast for me.
HEY YUFUS!
I hate it when that happens
That guy running at the end of the nailed it video is one lucky sommbitch.
White coveralls don’t hide shit stains.
Well, bye.
I get a 403 forbidden.
Sounds like a Ted’S. problem. (Opens OK for me in LibreWolf. 🤷♀️)
Works for me in FireFox. Jpost article about the Houthi PM become pieces parts.
That tomato looks angry and half decayed, like it wants to become a man-eating killer tomato, but didn’t quite manage before keeling over.
Expect it to zombify.
STEVE SMITH VISIT POTATO MAN. PLAY WITH PLANT. THAT RAPE TOMATO.
But, we know how to deal with that.
That semen in white was awfully vigilant to pull out in that situation. Quick thinking. Coulda gotten creamed.
Good on him to avoid the petite mort. Can’t edge that forever.
If only he had his hi viz vest and hard hat on!
Perusing the google nooz, I see more stories bemoaning the horrific decline in visitors to Las Vegas. I wonder if the drumbeat of “another hottest summer in history” stories has anything to do with it.
Probably more legal sports books in so many states.
Supposedly it’s getting expensive too.
Ted S.:
The Strip has gotten expensive. But there’s still reasonable places to find.
It’s a multifold issue. Buffets have all but disappeared, which Inused as a consolation prize. The tables have gotten greedy and chased off real gamblers with shit like infinite shuffle decks – dealer can (“must hit”, as the house says) soft 17, which is statistical advantage to the house. 6:5 blackjack payouts vs the previous 3:2 and it’s like pulling teeth to get a comp anymore. It’s been 18 years since I’ve seen any meaningful comps. Go back to 4 or 6 deck shoes (I don’t count but use a +/- system that only works in a finite shoe), 3:2 blackjack and dealer must stay on all 17 and hit all 16 and you’ll see winners again. Once you have winners, you get foot traffic. I used to have a fighting chance, now I don’t, so I don’t go like I used to.
“coming down”
“The Venice Film Festival must not remain an event isolated from reality, but rather become a space to denounce the genocide being carried out by Israel, the complicity of Western governments, and to offer concrete support to the Palestinian people,” the organizers said in a statement beforehand.
No one can hide from the politicization of everything.
I thought that was the Spanish Inquisition.
I didn’t expect your reply.
It’s fucking excruciating to witness their (semi) useful idiocy. Palestine has never been a place with territory or status. All the neighboring Middle Eastern lands expeditiously deport the roaming Muslim gypsies, but Israel is supposed to be oh-so friendly with them despite Oct 7.
Frequently I find AlexinCT overly precise in specific mustachioed plans and agents behind the madness, and to be frank, and to a much lower level of ‘assuming malice,’ Suthen, but I struggle to find any ‘reason’ behind the anti-Israel froth from the Left. Other than carrying over millennia-old antisemitism, both Euro and abroad. (Sowell’s quote about Jews being successful warrants more anger comes to mind.)
Israel’s fucked if they straight-up genocide or nuke ’em, internationally. They’re fucked if they do nothing. Humans are clever social primates. ded/thred, but my I have strong appreciation for their pager blitz. Damn. That ‘doc’ I found, pretty much the longest, used children blinded and wounded to ‘softly’ imply Israel being monstrous. Didn’t ever get into the tech and info, which I do understand won’t just be released, but a nice collection of what we ‘do’ know would be nice.
I was impressed with the Hunt for Bin Laden doc on Netflix detailing the Intel behind actually finding and killing him.
The Left sees Israel as a bastion of western civilization, and The Left hate western civilization.
According to The Left, the wogs, be they Bantu, Aboriginal, Maori, Amerindian, whatever, would’ve been better off left to their own devices, and their nasty, brutish, short lives. That westerners visited prosperity on them (and which the wogs have never fully grokked and thus don’t completely participate in) is an even greater sin.
Sometimes an answer really is that simple.
@Rhy: Yep. See also, that Sowell line. The only thing that’d make ’em happy is if Jews *failed.*
I agree with Sowell on that count. It’s definitely part of why they have been hated so long.
100%
According to the UN, “genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such”
The Palestinians are not a national, racial or religious group. “Ethnical” is quite slippery, but the PLO defined them as “Arab nationals who, until 1947, normally resided in Palestine”, which is a weird definition as, read literally, it means anyone born after 1947 isn’t a Palestinian. Previous definitions of “Palestinian” had included Jews who had normally resided there. Of course, it also included Christians, but those have been driven off and presumably are no longer considered Palestinians, which (together with the elimination of Jews) calls the whole definition into question. If we’re really just talking about Muslims who live on that strip of land, we’re defining “ethnical” narrowly enough that you could consider, say, Catholics living in Paris as a separate ethnic group.
To me, it’s not entirely clear that the eradication of “Palestinians” would constitute a genocide. It would be a bad thing, nonetheless, but there’s little doubt in my mind that the people* who live in Palestine are as close to hostis humani generis as you are likely to find outside the Horn of Africa.
*with exceptions, of course
Of course, it also included Christians, but those have been driven off and presumably are no longer considered Palestinians
There are still a few thousand Palestinian Christians in Gaza and the West Bank. Maybe a thousand or so in Gaza with the rest in the West Bank.
There are Arab Christians in Israel outside of Gaza and the West Bank. Some are Palestinian.
Poking around the Intertubes, I found an estimate that a little more than half of Palestinian Christians have left the Middle East for the Americas.
So pretty much every Arab country and most Muslim countries for the past 70 years.
Way more than 70 years.
Possible Glibertopia? No mention of roads….
Viva Verdis: man declares country in unclaimed pocket of land between Serbia and Croatia
Except nobody lives there and Croatia has cut off access. But you can send this dude money for citizenship.
I have heard of that place. That is the killing field between Croatia and Serbia. It is not somewhere you want to be if a serbian steals a chicken from a croatian or one or the other finds out the other has poked his daughter. There are a few places like that scattered around europe. When you find an uninhabited place you should ask why. When you see something no one is doing you should ask why.
I tried to make gumbo with a couple of grebes once. It was completely inedible. I asked my coonass friend about it.
“Have. you ever seen a coonass try to cook a grebe?”
“No”
“If a coonass wont eat it that should have been your clue. “
Being in an area that had both Croats and Serbs, can confirm.
Chesterton’s fence nods in agreement.
Liberland v. 2.
Man, Bama sucks as bad as Texas.
I can’t figure if FSU is just back after a one year hiatus, or if ‘Bama is slipping back into pre-Saban irrelevance.
Yes
The whole OSU v Texas thing was a matchup between the two teams with the most obnoxious fan bases (sorry, sloop, but sometimes the truth is gonna hurt). Because I spent more time around Texas fans, I guess I was glad they lost, but this was a classic “can’t they both lose” matchup for me.
Was in a bar with my accountant yesterday. “Texas is gonna bIow it.” Somedays, I wish I bet on sports.
A group that infiltrated Microsoft’s headquarters building this week disputed the company’s account of the incident — describing their sit-in as nonviolent and saying the “listening devices” allegedly left behind were phones that fell from their pockets when they were arrested.
I don’t really care, Margaret
I only hire fascists. I don’t have these problems.
Instant firing of anyone pulling that shit under my watch.
These aren’t some government layabouts who are sacrosanct.
If it was just phones (which I doubt), they didn’t just accidentally fall out of people’s pockets, I am sure. They were ditched because they contain, or are the key to, a pallet-load of evidence.
It’s laughably transparent bullshit. I would expect nothing less from that lot.
They literally took over the president’s office. Firing and a commercial burglary prosecution seems fitting.
@ Nephilium from the deadthread:
Only high-ABV beers give me hangover symptoms when I drink it in modest amounts (naturally, anything will give that result if you drink way too much of it). I drink wine and every type of liquor on occasion, and only the supercharged beers do that to me. It’s not horrible; just a noticeable crappy feeling the next morning. It sucks because I really like them.
Huh. I have thoughts as to the causes. I would guess it’s worse with darker beers or Belgian styles?
I’m not entirely sure; I usually get IPAs or DIPAs.
Akira:
I would suggest grabbing a big imperial stout. It may be a sensitivity to alpha acids (which come from hops), rather than the ABV and congeners.

So, Mom’s home from the hospital. Imagine having to stay in the hospital for 4 days waiting on a poop. 🙄
Home from the hospital is at least better than being *in* the hospital. Huge improvement for both of you.
👍
I can easily imagine that. I spent six extra days at the hospital a few years ago while they tried to restart my innards.
So can I. My wife was several days waiting at the first hospital for the second hospital and surgeons to have a bed and slot available for her.
My dad recently went through something like this. Try Kombucha, worked like a charm for the old man.
I heard Israel is forcing Gazans to use Teams, which is definitely a war crime.
Microsoft said earlier this year that it
found no evidence its technologies were used by the Israeli military to harm civilians in Gazais none of your fucking business to whom we sell our technologies or what the fuck they do with it.I remember when 128-bit encryption couldn’t be sent to most countries.
Now they can be sold anything as long as OMB gets his/the government’s vig.
Alternative response:
“Get back to us when you’ve got that whole “Toyota pickups being used as technicals by terrorists all over the world” thing sorted out.”
The Gazans should set their status to Do Not Disturb so the IDF will leave them alone.
I see that CAIR has exquisitely fine-tuned its messaging with all the latest trendy buzzwords beloved by the left. Well played, terror sympathizers.
Oh JFC. Stop the world, I want to get off.
“Last night, President Trump CANCELLED $4.9 billion in America Last foreign aid using a pocket rescission,” the Office of Management and Budget posted on X on Friday. “[President Trump] will always put AMERICA FIRST!”
So when has he been pushing Congress to end all foreign aid?
Back to my earlier thought, agreeing with others here: Jews fundamentally represent a minority that completely ‘violates’ the Leftist script on oppressed groups’ need for outside ‘help.’
No, no, no. They can’t have that thought floatin’ ’round.
Hope y’all got yer powerball tickets ready
Mrs. Dean and I were talking about what we would do with hundreds of millions of dollars. Basically, it came down to:
(1) Never fly commercial again.
(2) Buy a couple of really nice cars.
Everything else just sounded like more headaches. Ooh, buy a big mansion on the beach! Well, I’m not gonna clean it, so now we have staff, which means, we have a headache.
To be perfectly honest, we’d probably buy a new house, but it would be smaller than the one we have now (we’re thinking about downsizing) and it would need some decent breathing room around it. We’ve done a little looking and just about anything with much acreage is too big, so we’d probably have to build (did I mention the headaches yet?).
I have realized as I’ve gotten older (and wealthier) that the concept of life changing money has dramatically changed for me.
I hate the beach.
You could always buy a yacht.
Preach.
I don’t really get the huge deal about the beach either. I mean it’s nice, but to get there from where I am, it requires either an 8+ hour drive or a flight that I don’t want to spend money on.
And I don’t find it substantially better than just swimming in a lake half an hour away. There’s sand, and there’s water to swim in. That’s the whole experience. If I could just make an afternoon of it, I might do that once in a while, but I just don’t find it to be worth it when it has to involve packing for multiple days (perhaps my most hated activity in the world).
“Fuck You” money isn’t about owning shit. It’s about not ever having to do anything you don’t want to do.
And TBH most people can do that anyway, they just don’t realize how much they can do without.
“the huge deal about the beach ”
Back in the day, it was about the only place for a teenage boy to see and interact with half nekkid gals. And drive in movies.
Lakes lack (real) waves. Pounding surf is why I love the beach. It’s a purely emotional, visceral reaction.
I just had a fantastic weekend with my brothers on the southern Outer Banks. There’s no substitute for the ocean.
De gustibus.
There is something about beach air that invariably leaves me short of breath after a few hours. Might be the moisture?
slumbrew:
Ever come to the Great Lakes? There’s both tide (worthwhile for fishing) and surf (*sigh*) reports for the Lake. There are times the waves crash over the shoreway as well.
I’ve had what feels like shortness of breath during red tide. Beyond that I’ve not experienced anything that.
Neph:
Yep, I have, but those are still just waves. The lakes don’t have proper “surf”.
slumbrew:
Fair ‘nough.
/remembers when he lost a cigarette because a wave crashed over his car when he was ashing it.
Agreed: the only real difference between regular joes and the super rich is private jet travel.
They just have iPhones like us. Their clothes are more expensive but not obviously superior to mass produced items (unlike previously in history).
But private jet travel is really different.
“Private jet rich” has been my criteria for quite a while. E.g., “are they private jet rich?”
To borrow from Adam Carolla, “fuck-you money” is nice, but “fuck-me money” is better: so much money that you can do things that will actually cost you money to prove a point.
See, also, Elon Musk.
Headed to the Oregon coast in a week or two.
Slum, the only billionaire I know dosent even have a private jet. He’s got a King Air. And he may not even be a billionaire. He’s buddies with a guy with a P51,P40, P47…
First guy made the second guy after much cost plus scam contract work at Hanford.
Buy TOS, fire some of the guys and gals, and hire a bunch of you Glibs (who wants to make the sammiches?)
I’ll make the sandwiches.
And i May throw a few.
Which is not assault.
Speaking of TOS, here’s yet another doozy from those clowns.
Notice how they substitute the GAO’s opinion for that of, you know, the courts? No where in the Constitution does it say that the president is obligated to spend every last allotted dollar.
Will the Supremes allow this? I don’t know, but it’s more nonsense where Reason attacks OMB for doing something that actually furthers the cause they supposedly believe in.
If they want to argue it should be left to Congress, well go ahead and do that. We’ll never actually cut spending, but make the argument. You can even argue that what he’s doing is illegal. But it’s clearly sleight of hand to suggest that this is settled law when the courts haven’t ruled on it. The GAO has no actual authority to make such a decision. They can only opine like any old asshat here can.
The executive retains a wide degree of discretion on how they enforce laws passed by Congress. Like, say, immigration laws for instance. I personally don’t see why spending less than they ask would be any different. It would obviously be a different question if the executive started spending money not allocated which….you know, I’m fairly certain has happened and Reason didn’t bat an eye or call it illegal.
I was searching for an example of Biden spending money allocated by Congress. I’m fairly certain he did that shit when funding for Ukraine was going to run out to do an end around on Congress. There was no pearl clutching from Reason on the constitutionality of that.
It’s a good thing I’m not a millionaire because I do very little already. Knowing that my money will run out in 2 years or so is basically my only reason to get out of bed, go to welding school, etc. Since February 2023, I’ve been employed for a grand total of 4 months. In my post college life, I’ve been unemployed for about 6 years total. I’m proud that I’ve never taken welfare or other gubmint handouts.
Once in Chicago when I mentioned I was jobless and not taking unemployment money, the other guy said, “What?! Are you a Republican?!” I should have said, “no, something much worse”. There is miasma of smug liberalism suffocating that city. It was fun for a while, but I’m glad I left.
I’m a human being, not a human doing. If blind snakes and bristlecone pines can stay alive, I’m not worried. Consider the lilies; they toil not neither do they spin.

Great Basin Bristlecone Pines (Pinus longaeva) are remarkable for being the oldest non-clonal species on the planet. These hardy trees, shaped by wind, snow, and rain survive thousands of years, overseeing the rise and fall of great empires, growing through ice-ages and catastrophic volcanic eruptions. But their ability to survive these harsh environments and adverse growing conditions is exactly their secret to great longevity.
***
It was wonderful to see such ancient trees up close, though the hike to their grove was somewhat arduous.
There is nothing wrong with taking unemployment – you’re paying for it, after all.
OTOH the last time I was laid off I didn’t use it either. I didn’t feel like looking for a job for awhile lol
Don’t know about your state, but in PA part of your employment package is taken by your employer and sent to the State for unemployment compensation should you ever need it. And, the State simply keeps your money if you didn’t work long enough for that, or other, employers, under the State’s rules. So, the couple of times I was unemployed, I applied for whatever pittance the State wanted to return to me (while hustling every day to find a new job).
“There is nothing wrong with taking unemployment”
You are partaking of a system that shouldn’t exist and by participating you are giving it your implicit consent to exist. That’s wrong.
This is one of those rare times where I (almost) agree with The Hyperbole.
Getting made at people for taking gubmint handouts is like getting mad at people for driving 5 to 10 mph over the speed limit. It’s just what people do.
I have more respect for beggars than most government employees. I know firsthand how little they work and how little value it has.
Only ever able to get unemployment t once in my life.
Either been self employed or fired.
https://twitchy.com/brettt/2025/08/30/the-atlantic-too-many-in-government-have-committed-mortgage-fraud-to-make-them-all-felons-n2418190
Everybody does it! No big!
He is probably right, but you of course didn’t hear anyone complaining when they prosecuted Trump on novel charges in which there was no “victim” and the bank he supposedly defrauded said it was a mutually beneficial arrangement.
And these are the types of assholes who of course make the laws that they enforce on us peons at their own discretion.
What I’m getting from that is Conor Friedersdorf has definitely committed mortgage fraud.
Lol
Too many? Nope. Go ahead and prosecute them all. Same with deporting all illegals. I don’t care.
It is amazing that Trump has got every Democrat on record loudly refusing to enforce the same laws they wrote.
See also “nobody gets prosecuted for perjury” – Bill Clinton.
The Beltway Class showing their absolute contempt for out-class people.
I didn’t win anything at the raffle, but neither did the dozen or so people whose names were called and didn’t show up.
It gave me a reason to go somewhere. The last time I gambled was in 2017 in Lake Tahoe where I won 39 cents overall after an hour of slot machines. I figured I should quit while I was ahead.
As near as I can tell, most people who gamble regard everything they have when they leave the casino as “winnings”, regardless of how much they had when they went in.
When you consider the money spent as entertainment they aren’t wrong.
Same here, I think. It was in downtown Cleveland. My boss tried to get into the spirit of things but I was bored out of my fucking mind. Gambling does not interest me one bit.
It didn’t seem to me that slot machines would be your ‘choice.’
Horse racing, sure. Video poker, absolutely. Perhaps the curiosity of it all was the interest..?
*quizzical glare, full of Jeremy Brett-era Holmes meaningful stares*
(He is The Best.)
I forget all the machines I used. It’s hard to get into higher skill games if you’re only willing to be a dollar or less per play.
I came with about $20 in spare change and left with slightly more than that. I’d have been better off washing dishes in the kitchen for an hour.
It reminds of the time I sold off my mutual fund. I put in $500 after graduating college in 2007, let it sit, and sold it off in 2012 for $600. A decent return, but not in absolute terms.
In the old days we played poker, all friends, low stakes, set time limit. I was pretty much the mark but it was more enjoyment than gambling.
That’s how I’d view it. I know I’m losing $x going in. I’m buying entertainment, practice, and most of all, the experience.
That’s the fun. I quite enjoy playing poker online, but I don’t play with money.
It astonishes me that that is somehow actually illegal in some places.
News is all about ending de minimis. Parroting the administration’s line as a “loophole”. Just like the gun grabbers’ loopholes.
