Then the door opened. There was an actual green lit pathway directing us straight towards it.We decided to send the heads of our strongest groups, I was to lead them, yay.

We walked calmly as we could not know if we were friends or meat, they chose the former.“Friends, welcome to our campsite! We came by to say hello on our summer break” They spoke our languages? summer break?

“Oh yes, we noticed your star was going nova early and thought we could lend a hand, so we moved your star and installed a ring model around it. Many mistakes were made and we apologize and will fix your world.”

Summer break? “You broke our world, fuck off!” Many of the leaders were concerned with my language but I persisted.” What did you do to our world on your “ Summer cruise?” You have left us to die in darkness, what say you? They were silent and afraid. “Fair enough star children, for that’s what you are. Can you fix this? Can you call Dad? Your vacation is costing a civilization, can we fix it?”

    From dedthred:

The Grand Blanc shooting happened during a particularly violent weekend in the US and marked the 324th mass shooting in the US in 2025 according to the Gun Violence Archive. There had been multiple mass shootings – cases in which four or more people are shot or killed – reported in the US in public places heading into Sunday morning.

Now remove the gang shootings from the top 5 most crime ridden cities and see how many we have.

    • Akira

They can’t do that; it might clue people in that we really don’t have a gun problem so much as an inner-city gang problem. People might even start blaming Lefty politics and ghetto culture. Impermissible!

    • Threedoor

      Likely in the single digits.
Family murder suicides are not counted by the FBI as “mass shootings” either.

  2. Muzzled Woodchipper

    Another….

Trump’s first presidency yielded him three supreme court picks that gave the panel a conservative supermajority which has frequently ruled in his favor after he returned to the White House in January.

And what if the hundreds of cases that have nothing whatsoever to do with Trump? This line of argument is vapid.

    • Evan from Evansville

They have to play up the “conservative *supermajority,* cuz that’s where all evil lies. (‘Pack SCOTUS!.. w *our* ppl! We’re good!’)

Re: your first comment — The US has ~340M folk, and take out suicides and gang shit, there are ~5k stone-cold whodunnit murders /yr. That’s astoundingly low, and it’s astoundingly clear how bullshit Parties *not* in power miss that obvious football, as easy it is to realistically reflect US crime rates. Won’t be done, natch, cuz certain districts *really* don’t want their actual crime rates, and who commit them, actually are.

‘Huh.’ ~ Columbo glancing away, feigning ignorance while knowing The Truth.

    • rhywun

Or the previous fifty or so years of liberal supermajority that frequently ruled in favor of Democrat policies.

        Well, duh. That was normal.

One of my three HVAC systems is throwing a comm error, looks like the disconnect for the condenser it jacked, who would have thought that?

    • Rat on a train

Reminds me that I need to schedule maintenance.

Change your filter and cycle the furnace, if it runs you’re done.

    • Gustave Lytton

How about a trigger warning before throwing that H word around?

Figuring out systems options and my brain hurts. Missus just wants to “call a guy” and let them suggest what to put in. Which is fine, but I kinda needed to do homework first so I can at least ask non dumb questions before they put together a quote.

  4. Rat on a train

I would like a Reds – Indians World Series.

    • Bob

      RAAAACIIIST!!!!!!!

      • Bob

Or do you mean Commies versus Dot Indians?

      • Rat on a train

Commies – Bengals would be the Super Bowl.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

Red v Indians = lowest rated WS ever.

But I like it. I’ve no dog in the fight. My team (Marlins) are very rarely a factor except in cases like this year where we very aptly played spoiler for the Mets (lol). Maybe one day my team will compete.

      • Rat on a train

It’s the best I can think of. The Halos are out and not even eligible for the draft lottery.

      • Evan from Evansville

It *would* be the lowest rated. Get the Cubs in there, a repeat against The Indians, would be A-OK. (It went well, last time.) Seattle and both OH teams are worst-off for audience #s, but so it goes.

Fuck the AL, but the Phils (largely cuz of IU-alum and Cubs-legend Schhwarber) are fun, and – sadly – the Brewers are damn-interesting enough to make me wanna root for ’em.

As for the Marlins, I loved the Cubs getting Counsell as Manager more than any other move a season+ ago. Damn goofy player and stance, but he could play, and made sure to inject himself in situations when it mattered. Two World Series wins as a player, and fundamentally instrumental in 9th inning comebacks /wins in both? He’s the position player’s Maddux.

Same note? Go Reds, if the Cubs can’t. Always root for the underdog. If ya don’t? Well. That’s a pisser.

“I used to be your cousin’s ex-girlfriend’s former roommate!”

“…so what does that make us?”

“ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Which is what you shall be, very soon.”

(Good on Moranis for so many things. Not sure how I feel about his return for Spaceballs 2. (Immediate response? Not positive.)

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

        ex-wife was a cheater.
        ex-sister-in law was a cheater.
ex-sister-in-law’s new husband was a cheater.
His first gift to ex-sister-in-law was new bewbs.
        The Brewers are cheaters.
        They all deserve each other.

        /fuck ’em all

      • rhywun

Brother was a cheater. Or at least “thinking of”. But he wanted to use my home as a base of operations to stray.

Haven’t spoken to him since. Ten, twelve years?

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

My brothers second wife was a cheater. As were her brother and sister, with her mother and father being in the same catagory we learned later.

Seems to run in families. Learned behavior, and all that.

      • Evan from Evansville

@Ryu: I want to more stories about Rick Moranis’ bro. You seem oddly intimate with the situation.

Oh. You and PoN may have been ventilating Past Shit unrelated to The Moranis. I may have confused myself something fierce.

My repertoire with Crush went as well as could be. I’ll hear her blues symposium on Friday for my rockin’ number. It also incentivized me to complete my (hopefully) humourous recant on what my, our, gig really is and how complicated, I, Pencil it all is.

The current Dem strategy for wrecking our country seems to be sabotage by neglect and incompetence When they are called on it they just say “What? I dont know what y ou mean. Everything is fine. ”

I have seen the footage of the Portland protests. Time to bring the shit hammer of god down on them.

      • rhywun

It’s a nice dream but it will never happen as long the people promoting this chaos are the same people promising ever more free shit.

    • Suthenboy

Only the DC crowd thinks a govt shutdown is a bad thing. What a circus…the whole damned thing is theater.
Let’s see how many feds actually end up having to learn to code.

      • Rat on a train

I rode the train with federal employees long enough to know most of them want a shutdown that lasts a week or two. They know how the game is played. They will get backpay so it is a free vacation.

    • robodruid

We are about ready for a shutdown. This one feels different.

      • robodruid

If i were President Trump, i would argue that i don’t have to pay the federal workers for not working…..
That SUCKS for me, but if i were him, i would push it.

I got breakfast. My holster should be delivered today. My technical issue isn’t solved, but it is narrowed down.

I’m still failing to get things in order.

      • Gender Traitor

Ahem. You just haven’t finished getting things in order yet.

      • UnCivilServant

So rare an occurance, it keeps happening.

Apparently that Iowa grifter superintendent was *shockface* registered to vote….in Maryland.

Happy pre-shutdown day. I will be keeping the lights on in our ATC world so you will still get your shitty Temu gadgets.

Good luck. We’re all counting on you.

Having a flight scheduled for Oct 1, it would be nice if ATC was still on the job, so thanks for that.

“We have an opportunity and frankly a responsibility to create a better future,” Barra said in a 2022 speech. She promised to launch 30 electric-vehicle models globally within a few years and, soon after, convert more than half of GM’s North American plants to EV production.

Her ambitious quest to command new markets and save the Earth has since stalled. GM has gone from one of the industry’s loudest EV champions to a leading opponent of government emissions rules and fuel-economy standards that for decades fueled the consumer market for cleaner, more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Oh wait – no subsidies? Never mind!

Gaia sheds a tear. Will nobody rescue her?

    • DrOtto

“…government emissions rules and fuel-economy standards that for decades fueled the consumer market…” regulations fuel markets? I’m not an economist, but I don’t think that’s how it works. Pretty sure those rules/standards are what drove Americans out of ever shrinking sedans and into bigger vehicles like Suburbans.

  10. Fourscore

Good Morning to each and every one.

Another day of wonderment starts anew.

  11. Sensei

I had no idea about this bit too.

Schottenstein, an Orthodox Jew, was perplexed at the criticism that the campaign smacked of eugenics, the Nazi-embraced theory that selective reproduction can advance the human race. He said his mother-in-law grew up in Nazi Germany and watched as the synagogue across the street from her home was burned to the ground.

They sold out a bunch of stuff and had a nice uptick in sales.
