One of the recent movies with just the “Robin Hood” title, I forget which iteration this is. The narrator on the opening credits does a great job of making me unhappy with the opening. It opens with a woman trying to steal a horse, and I can assume who these people are supposed to be, but I expect some introduction. She’s unfriendly despite not getting the appropriate reaction for a thief caught in the act. Horses are rarely cheap. This is apparently supposed to be the ‘meet cute’ for Robin and Marian. The narrator skips us past the work of establishing a relationship with a few short clips They are interrupted by a messenger with a literal “draft notice”.
Look, one of the few things established thusfar is that Robin is at this point a manorial lord, thus would have had military obligations as part of that tenure. It would not be a wax closed letter with giant “Draft Notice” text across the top. It would be an open muster, called with little secrecy and no surprise at being required to serve. Even when they wished to avoid it, that was always the pretext of their role in society. Even more absurdly, the camera shows us the text closely. It explicitly calls him to service in the Third Crusade in those terms.
“Taking the cross” was not done by sealed royal diktat, it was something done voluntarily as an act of faith. The tradition of numbering the crusades was not something done at the time, and was applied by historians trying to sort out the issue into neat packaged conflicts. At the bottom of the notice was the fact that it has been issued by the order of the Sheriff of Nottingham. If the Pope has to plead and persuade men to take the cross, a petty Shire Reeve in the north of England sure as hell can’t command it.
Four years later, for some bizarre reason, Robin is in Arabia rather than Syria and Judea where the conflict took place. His team is ambushed by a single heavy machine crossbowman whose magic crossbow imparts wrecking ball force with tiny motions of a handle. This magic machine crossbow takes drum magazines and reloads much like a heavy machine gun would.
If you wanted to make Robin Hood set in a modern time, do it. The whole ambush reads as something from a post WWII infantry skrimish. You know, with guns. The whole thing about crossbows is that they’re slow as hell. The handful of repeating models (most famously a Chinese one used in the Boxer rebellion during the days of the Maxim gun) sacrificed all their power for that repeating functionality. The scene works with a Dushka but not this magical mystery crossbow. The infantry tactics are all movern, and of the sort predicated on individual firepower. Just give him an M4 instead of a longbow and the sequence looks natural again. Also, holding a longbow at full draw the way these guys are will wear out your arms right quick. Mind you, that’s before you factor in that the draw weight of a period longbow was over a hundred pounds. (The wreck of the Mary Rose from a few centuries later was found to contain longbows with draw weights over a hundred and fifty pounds). Modern bows, even recurve bows, tend not to go above sixty. Now if you did your research on compound bows you might not realize that the ability to hold those at a draw is mechanically aided. But even those cannot be easily held for as long as this scene runs.
This Modern warfare archery DLC continues with Saladin’s goons ambushing the squad in yet another modern approach to combat, plus bullet-time archery as they go firing mid-leap. Despite the hyper-advanced magical crossbows of several designs being deployed, the seige artillery that opens up on the city walls is Less advanced than what would have been brought to bear by either side.
During the bombardment, Arab Ninja gets the drop on Robin and they start to fight hand to hand. Robin loses and was nearly choked out before another crosader chops off Arab Ninja’s hand. Somehow, despite this happening during a frantic withdrawl of Crusader forces, Arab Ninja is shown among the captives as orders come down to start executing them. Anyway, Robin fails to save Arab Ninja’s son but does end up causing a mass escape, and gets shot. Gisborne orders him “put on a hospital barque back to England.”
The visual design of the outfits worn by both sides is very much intentionally mirroring modern kit, with the crude lamellar over tunic pattern of the crusaders being a dead ringer for modern plate carriers over desert camo minus the camo patterning. The film makers either did not want to make a period peice, did not know how to make a period piece, or thought they were more clever than they are.
I can’t not see the “Modern Warfare with copy-paste of crusade era terminology” slathered all over this film. It doesn’t work. If you want to use modern tropes, just use a modern setting. It can even be an alternate modern setting.
Arab Ninja stows away on the boat with Robin as we return to a manor that I just now realize is way too hilly to be near Nottingham. His manor is in ruins with seizure notices nailed to the door. Robin goes to see Tuck, who while still an ecclesiastical man is sitting in a confessional in an established church rather than acting as a Mendicant Friar. I can’t tell if he’s tonsured, but the shoulder-length locks sticking out from under his cap suggest not. Tuck exposits what’s happened while he’s been away. Apparently the Sheriff has managed to bring the industrial revolution centuries early given the works at the minehad Robin goes looking for Marian at. The filmmakers go “flare-offs are industrial, lets have some gouts of flame” to go with the more advanced mill works. Problem is that gas flares are associated with petroleum and chemical processing to deal with waste gasses that can’t be economically contained and otherwise utilized.
Robin finds that since he was declared dead by the Shire Reeve, Marian has moved on. Arab Ninja catches up with him here and appoints himself to the mentor role while preaching the Marxist gospel of oppression dynamics. To contrast the revolutionary nutcase, the Sheriff finally appears on screen giving a stump speech as though he were a modern politician. Why he feels compelled to do so is lost on me. Even within the context of the story as presented, nothing about his situation would suggest this as a course of action. In a case of “filmmakers are not as clever as they think” the issues he harps on are a patently transparent “lets make him use modern day style talking points of the people we hate”. Except they grafted it to “so my crushing taxes need to be paid” instead of the policy platforms they tend to go with.
I am confused. The whole proceeding goes as though he is presenting legislation to parlement. But it’s on a balcony, with the rabble down below.
Anyway we have an insulting scene where Arab Ninja teaches Robin about archery. Yeah I buy that. Right. Uh-huh. Fuck you.
So the armed robbery begins. Arab Ninja’s plan is the Batman Gambit where Robin publicly plays the rich fop while conducting the crimes anonymously. This turns into a montage of murder and robbery. The flaw in the logic of the plan is painfully obvious to me. Robin has a delapidated ruin for a manor with no economic interests supporting it, yet is throwing around sacks of cash. There is no shortage of fellow crusaders who can attest to the lack of any great booty being taken that would explain this surplus of funding, but suddently there’s a crime spree going on. A crime spree which coincided with his return. Lets see if the Reeve picks up on the pattern.
Nope, he confides in the mole.
So, Marian’s new man is Will, presumably surname Scarlet. He discusses his lack of confidence in the activities of the thief. So Robin recklessly decides to escalate to attacking the treasury. The manditory stealth section is failed, forcing him to fight his way out, penniless. More magical repeating crossbow fire follows him out. Except, during the escape, Arab Ninja, the only bald black man in Nottinghamshire, does not cover his face. I get that Robin is the more famous of the two, but they have been seen together with Arab Ninja playing the part of the foreign servant Robin brought back from Crusade. It does not take a detective to add this to the pattern. While I’ve called him “Arab Ninja” that’s only because he made his appearance with face covered as part of the forces fighting in the Arabian battle. He’s actually black.
So, to add to the list of things the writer does not understand, we can add clergy and their mechanisms of control. Bald Priest pressures the Sheriff to crack down on the criminal to remove the symbolic nature of the spree. He openly states that the objective is to kill the commoners’ hope. A villainous priest does not kill hope, he weaponizes it. The promise of the hereafter and doing Gods work on Earth is a powerful motivator. Words are his weapons. He would attack from the pulpit, preaching against the murderous madman trying to bribe his way into their hearts while undermining the fabric of society. But then the writer would have to write an effective speech rather than have him menace the Sheriff in private. After Bald Priest leaves, Gisborne enters with his medieval tacticool task force to begin the hunt in earnest. At the same time, Tuck and Marian begin their own plan which was not detailed but involves the welcoming party for the Cardinal.
We get more Marxist drivel as Marian says things at the party that would have her in irons and slated for a hemp necktie in a society thus depicted. The writer is also strongly anti-clerical if not downright anti-christian. I’m not surprised that they have no grasp of economics, or how the Sheriff’s plans will simply cripple his ability to raise revenue. The historical Saladin Tithe, and the Tax to ransom Richard were one-time events, but were the source of the tax plot attached to the Robin Hood legend when he was put into the time of Prince John.
Anyway, in Clown Commie World, Gisborne leads the army to plunder and burn their own territory, including the minehead. We are firmly into Stupid Evil territory. At least Gisborne finally clocks Marian as she has deserved for some time now. This leads to the obligatory action scene and wagon chase. Horses in this movie world can and will ride into solid plank walls and out the other side. Horses in reality have a strong sense of self preservation, getting them to charge into a wall is nigh impossible. But these horses appear to be CGI. No wonder they can shrug off falling 6×6 beams landing on them.
In another case of “This isn’t how any of this works.” During the chase they knock over a giant crucible of molten metal with razor-thin walls, and no heat source to have the metal yellow-hot and running like water. At least try to stay within the suspension of disbelief. Please.
Added to the magic crossbow arsenal are rocket-propelled genades. In the aftermath of the boom, Arab Ninja pulls a last stand to delay Gisborne’s army. He fails in getting killed. We have a scene between him and the Sheriff. Somehow, the Sheriff knows the Arab Ninja’s history with his first capture by Gisborne in Arabia, but hasn’t put the pattern together and wastes time trying to get information out of him.
The rabble rousers spout more Marxist drivel in raising a revolution. I am proven wrong about the assertion that Arab Ninja is the only black man in Nottinghamshire – the rabble is a multi-culti nightmare. But until the revolution, they’re out of sight. They certainly haven’t been hanging around nobility.
Anyway, action sequence ending. I’m long done with this movie. There are more things I could point out that are so very wrong, but I made my point. They try to sequel bait with Will being appointed the replacement Sheriff, but I’m just glad it’s over.
Avoid this crap.

This one – I have no additional notes urgently clawing from my mind.
Actually I do have one note – Nottinghamshire is more midlands than north of England. I got my geography mixed up.
Assassins creed: Robbinhood.
No, it’s more Call of Duty than Assassins Creed.
So is this a full-auto rather than a semi-auto crossbow? Does it have the thing that goes up?
This sounds like a right mess written by someone who’s vaguely heard of Robin Hood and the Crusades and has a woke agenda to push at all costs. Is this by chance a recent Disney production?
2018 by Lionsgate. Not terribly far off, but I don’t think Disney bought them yet.
We be Robbin Robbin Robbin…
Wait. Different show.
Crap avoidance protocol in effect.
I only know that reference from online reviews of how bad that show was.
The show did inspire a few hilarious reviews, as well as teaching me the words ‘condom jar’.
I’ve seen this movie as well. It is absolutely terrible to the point of being entertaining. Kinda like that Three Musketeers movie they made a few years back. What makes this funnier than that movie is this Robin Hood film tries to take itself seriously.
Produced by Leonard DiCaprio, Arab ninja played by Jamie Foxx, $100 million dollar budget, $84 million worldwide box office…kinda surprised it did even that well.
Leonardo, whatever.
I didn’t hate it either, but I’m not saying it was good.
WTF?
Brown pride.
Worst racists I’ve ever been around are the ‘indigenous ’ types.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qBPyn9UmlAE&ra=m
I’d sue so hard they’d have to close the place or sell it.
inorite?
Sounds like the racist mob followed them into the resort. And I would not be surprised if the resort is not allowed to ID anyone coming in because racism.
Goddamn right.
Though I don’t vacation anywhere where I can’t defend myself.
And of course it’s not immediately classified as a hate/bias crime when everyone knows if the skins were reversed, it would have been automatic.
Hard to have empathy for people dumb enough to live in CA and vacay in HI, though.
Hey! I resemble that remark.
I mean….really?
“Headfield said the attack quickly spiraled, with members of the group allegedly using patio furniture as weapons. “The kids were beating people with the chairs.””
So Antifa has infected Hawaii now since how much of their economy is tourism?
I hope their islands tip over. Fat fucks.
‘Police have not classified the assault as a hate crime.’
Of course they haven’t, the victims have the wrong skin pigmentation.
…That being said, I believe the very concept of a hate crime is absurd. I personally don’t give a flying fuck what you or anybody else’s motivation for committing a violent crime is outside of proving probable cause in a court of law. And I certainly don’t believe one’s motivation for committing a violent act should factor into the length of sentencing. It’s the act itself that matters…
Remember when Republicans/Conservatives held this view in general until it could be used to punish political and philosophical enemies to their benefit as well? Pepperidge Farms remembers.
It’s thought-crime.
Communists play that game.
I’d be for eliminating all of them but if one side sees the “benefits” and the other side gets screwed that’ll never happen.
“It’s thought-crime.
Communists play that game.”
So do modern American Conservatives, apparently.
See: Calls for extra lengths of sentencing for people who commit crimes because Jew/Christian/Republican/Conservative/White, blah, blah, blah…
How is that any different than extra sentencing because Jihad/Terrorism/Antifa/Commie, ect, ect?
Again, don’t give a fuck as to the why of the crime, only the scope of the damage wrought.
Commie conservatives? That should be a thing.
Cuz those ain’t genuine conservatives.
Amen trigger.
I usually like Jamie Fox as an actor.
I think I’ll pass.
Thanks for saving an eavening UCS.
Is an eavening when you’re roofied?
He’s no Will Smith.
If you wanted to make Robin Hood set in a modern time, do it.
And yet you bitched about that too with Robin and the Seven Hoods.
Oh, I meant to add a :-p emoji.
You still have to make a good movie.
You will note my complaints were about them not doing the premise justice, not the choice of setting.
It’s like you people haven’t even heard of Robyn Hood. The hit Canadian TV show.
The Satire roasting modern television by taking its tropes to the absurd?
Bruh.
How about reviewing “Robin Hood: …IN SPACE!”
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3iGKWmfJ6kc
I was thinking of writing something on a tangential premise where I used a scifi setting. The idea really didn’t grab me though, so no words got on page after the concepting phase.
This is Canadian. The Canadians seem to have a Robin Hood obsession.
They want to steal from the rich (US) and give to the poor (Canada)?
Lifelong gangbanger who is somehow not currently in prison arrested for the homicide of a kid and all the pols and activists can do is bitch about “guns on the street”. Boy genius mayor:
Then why do you?
*golf clap*
The article mentions him palling it up with criminals in Rikers. That is an obscenity all on its own above and beyond the expected pro-crime instincts that come with the territory with his kind.
I hope the voters are paying attention to that fucking trash, wake up, and toss him into the garbage. I don’t have much hope though.
Tuck isn’t tonsured, but I’m sure he thinks he’s tongue sure, eh? Amiright or amiright? Right, right right?!
(I’m glad I gathered its meaning from context, but that may be a new word for me.)
Sounds like a more ‘hardcore’ version of the Costner flick, with another black Arab. (Flick is so much fun. If ya don’t like it, the stuff you don’t like is actually the good shit. It’s not a ‘good’ movie. It’s outstanding, often silly fun.)
I’d like to see a modern take on Robin, one that’s legitimately about The People secretly fighting against the tax man for the bullshit they’re forced to pay for. In my imagine, this is all done in ‘our’ non-socialist manner. That’d be a lot of fun, and easy to slip in modern caricatures. (Surely, a big reason such a flick isn’t being made.)
Fundimentally, in folklore, Robin Hood was a highwayman who targetted corrupt officials, not the system. He never challenged the legitimacy of the crown or the church, just the actions of particular officials and moneylenders who were personally unjust.
This is something the socialist approach ignores and fixates on the reduction to “stole from the rich and gave to the poor”. Most of the time he gave to himself (and his henchmen).
So if they were being honest, he’d be their hero.
except they back the corrupt officals.
Meh, to tell the story, that’s splittin’ some mighty fine hairs. The corrupt officials are corrupted by the power they’re given to seize taxes. Attacking them *is* attacking the system, the footmen enforcers, perhaps on a level where the targeted officials try to ‘plea down’ by turning on the higher tiers for creating the corrupt environment to begin with.
Then you’d have Robin+ ‘convincing,’ forcing, compelling, etc, various Lords (and their ‘armies), teaming them up to take on the King himself. Def could have Marian honeypot a particularly nasty, lascivious Lord if ya want some tits to increase asses in seats. (That could be an important B plot, as Lord Pussy Snaggler has important forces, connections, etc.)
This version would be the Merry Men doing a medieval and deadly (1770s) Tea Party, secret meetings and ‘guerrilla’ tactics to attack the entire evil of the ‘King taxes, subjugates, rural+ English’ system. The Friar is an important character, getting the Church involved in some capacity, but I don’t see the need for an Arab, ninja or otherwise. (The whole movie could be Marian seducing the clergy to access their wealth/ power, to think of it. I’ll conduct the casting couch. This naughty Alter Boy needs to be … shown — the power of the carnal world. We’ll see how they do.)
“So if they were being honest, he’d be their hero.”
At first, but then quickly forgotten as inconvenient truths for The Cause. See also: No Lefty giving a shit the “trained Marxists” running BLM just took the money for their own mansions. In fact, I’m sure they still herald that racist organization for (finally!) “raising awareness” to the (True) Cause.
The grift *is* the point.
That and hurting normies, especially Icky Class normies.
I took a tour of the $59,000,000 highschool and its additional unfinished (moar money!) $9,250,000 football field and feel like burning it all down.
Would that make me Robbinhood like?
Women these days are expressing their evolutionary tendency towards intolerance of differences and people who cause disharmony through this weird fascistic movement focused on supposed tolerance for differences. But differences that are only the most superficial.
As long as everyone thinks the exact same it’s all good.
Anyone else remember this one? What a theme song it had.
Maybe you had to be Canadian? I’ve never heard of it.
I mentioned it above.
I saw that after I posted. I remember that it was on before The Mighty Hercules
, I knew that theme song/show seemed gay before I even knew what gay meant.
I remember this one

There’s this minor brouhaha forming online between people who consider themselves “advocates” for pain patients and pharmacists (and the people who are “influencers” and pharmacists).
You have a bunch of whiny cunts claiming they’re in such terrible crippling pain that they can’t live without their pain meds and pretending as if pharmacies are wrongfully depriving them of what they need. There’s a lot of dumb policies around this stuff. I could give two flying fucks if you want to abuse your hydrocodone personally. Natural selection and all that.
The pharmacy chains have been fined well over $13 billion combined over this shit. That’s going to get any industry’s attention. They don’t prescribe the shit. But you have doctors joining in and doing what doctors are prone to do – launch vitriol at anyone who dares to question their supremacy over mere mortals such as pharmacists (forget that they have doctorates and know more about medications themselves).
The only reason these quacks are able to run around saying dumb shit is because the government has offput responsibility for its policies onto the private pharmacy chains. None of these morons will mention the government’s role in any of this while coming up with retarded terms like “Harmacist” to describe pharmacists who do as much as ask basic questions to document why they’re dispensing the pain meds to cover their ass.
This is like a perfect example of why the government not only enjoys consolidation in an industry, but actively pushes for it. It’s far, far easier to go after the big pharmacy chains than it would be if there were thousands upon thousands of independents. Or heaven forbid they really went after the people actually prescribing the shit in the same manner. You can’t realistically go after the thousands of individual providers and the hundreds of private practices in every area for their role in this. they aren’t going to issue massive fines to the hospitals which are basically quasi state institutions as is.
No, the pharmacist does not want to sit here and get yelled at by the fifteenth asshole that day claiming he has severe, but nebulous back pain so he needs his oxy’s a week early. The soulless corporate behemoths just want to keep you coming back and milking your insurance or Medicaid/Medicare. But when they start losing money dispensing this shit because of fines and arbitrary bullshit limits that aren’t even disclosed as to how many pills can be dispensed that calculus changes real quick.
TLDNR version – if you want to bitch about how hard it is to get your pain pills, write your local congress critter. It’d have a lot more impact than attacking pharmacists or pharmacies.
Lots of people actually do need their pain pills and I can understand their frustration. We started out handing them out like candy, overcorrected to an enormous degree, and now here we are. Plenty of bullshitters out there too though.
Yeah, get back to me in four or five years when I am going to need it.
The obnoxious thing is when I was on opioids a couple years ago the side effects sucked balls.
I don’t have any answers here – just bitter anger that the whole thing is so fucking politicized that people suffer.
Right. There are asshole pharmacists with inflated egos like any profession, particularly medical related. And people with legit need to have pain pills, though I get tired of hearing about the looming threat of them all off’ing themselves from the severe pain. People survived somehow without killing themselves before narcotics were a thing. Doesn’t mean I think they should have to if there’s legitimate reasons for it.
But most of the videos aimed at pharmacies on this stem from a few things.
1. They aren’t usually being denied anything. Pharmacists and staff have to ask basic questions and that shit needs to be documented to make sure it’s legitimate and to cover asses.
2. A lot of people think they’re free to fill early. Not just once, but over and over again. Law allows for early refills by a couple days as an exception. It’s not supposed to be the norm and it starts to create potential liability for pharmacies and pharmacists.
3. People don’t realize that the supply of this shit each pharmacy gets is restricted. If you show up at some random pharmacy you never filled at before, they have to weigh whether they can even take you in and still have enough for the ones they already have.
I’ve seen so many videos online of people bitching about #1. Pharmacists asking basic questions. And then you get the more mundane shit. Doctors fucking up the writing of the script itself. Dangerous drug interactions. You know, things pharmacists are trained to identify and protect you from.
There’s also some technical aspects to this. Nearly all the time at the chain places the pharmacist themselves has to fill something. You’ll see people bitch about wait times. You have people who complain about every damn thing that’s a minor inconvenience as if that’s akin to the pharmacist pushing them to off themselves.
I’m guessing all this bullshit is because of fucking drug addicts.
There is a genuine need for pain medication with fewer side effects and which doesn’t turn you into a addict. Why isn’t it forthcoming?
I’ve had the pharmacy short me of opioids after surgery because they believed that I was given too many pills.
I hope the pharmacist has a total ankle and his pharmacist cuts HIM off.
I mean, I think it’s really just something the government has little to do with but fucks with. It’s an extension of the drug war.
It’s hard to get good data on this shit, but it’s estimated that there are roughly 8 million people abusing or misusing their pain meds. Pharmacies are basically the ones tasked with policing this first and foremost because they are the easiest targets.
But I can’t help but think that the shit is overprescribed to begin with (ignoring that I couldn’t care less who takes it or why). There’s obviously no way that pain is so chronic in a state like Arkansas to where they dispense 72 prescriptions per year per 100 people compared to like a third for a state like Hawaii.
6.4% of adults between 18-64 get a script for it every year. 12% of seniors. Like 2% of the adults are on it seemingly full time.
There’s plenty of propaganda and mud to throw from all sides on this shit, but I’ve seen too many military age males taking this shit on the regular. No, I don’t believe your sob story and the second you start talking about how people kill themselves over being denied their pain pills I tune you the fuck out because your whiny little ass aint doing shit.
I also think ADHD meds are way over fucking prescribed too and I think most of these people could make do with a smack upside the head though so what the fuck do I know? I knew someone who was on Vyvanse for years who just quit. Outside issues related to being used to it they are the exact fucking same, yet someone prescribed that shit to them. So what was even being treated really?
Humans have a far, far longer history without these drugs than we do with and yet it’s become completely normal to just pop a pill for the most minor of bullshit.
There’s a lot of shit in healthcare and mental health that’s just…yea. I’m old fashioned in that I don’t think pills are generally the answer for most things, but it’s not my place to say what anyone else takes or why.
This is legitimate practice now for all parties involved. Insurance typically won’t pay for anything beyond a 3 day supply (paying cash is viewed as a red flag, especially if you have insurance). Some states literally limit it to 3 days and are generous enough to go up to all of 7 if the doctor documents the reason why it’s medically necessary. And it requires a prior auth in many cases still to break the feedback loop here.
I don’t know the particulars, but it’s not just you. The big risk they fear is too many extra pills leftover.
But again, it’s misdirected anger and I’d be curious to know where, how long, and what the doctor actually did to support the decision to go beyond the limited supply.
I remember having to get monthly counseling to continue my prescription. Fortunately I only endured that one time and some procedures later I didn’t need the opioids anymore. That shit can be nasty.
Arkansas.
I can 100% see some sort of scam going on. Likely a combination of Medicaid fraud and moving meds to sell on the secondary market. The south is hustle central along with plenty of disability fraud.
#meneither and I am currently on eight or so every day and not by choice.
One or two keep me alive and the rest are blood pressure, bone health, or antibiotic type shit.
Pain goes up and down but after the worst of it a couple years ago I’m delighted to not need anything more than Tylenol once in a while.
I’ve never had an orc pain med that did anything other than damage my liver.
And chumps like me and millions more suffer because of it.
As always.
Opioids should be OTC.
And paired with a stiff laxative once there is one that is better than current OTC options.
But again, not a matter determined by pharmacists or retail pharmacy chains.
I get why people get angry at the people telling them no, but there’s a lot of reasons why they’re saying no that have nothing to do with their own personal opinions or professional judgements.
Perverse incentives create perverse outcomes.
I have never needed a laxative with them.
I don’t even remember what it was. I think an opioid? From hospital stays I remember the main side effect opioids was nausea.
Whatever this was, I spent so many hours on the throne trying to squeeze one out that it was a good thing I was already on disability because there was no way I could hold a job on that shit.
Wikipedia suggests that is common side effect in “older adults” lol
Yes. Same with ADHD drugs, and just about everything else. It costs ‘me’ $300 to see my psychiatrist and get prescribed a month’s worth of ’em. Plenty of incentive for many to sneak around that barrier. No wonder the medical guild wants to limit the number of prescribers. Gotta keep the supply end tight!
(STEVE SMITH LOOSEN TIGHT END LIKE JEROME BETTIS.)
Regarding OTC…
I look out my living room window and watch a bunch of drug addicts enjoying their cheap new apartments in the crack house the city erected across the street while my taxes pay to support them.
OTC might help but it’s a pipe dream that will never happen. It’s as fanciful as most other libertarian ideas. There is way too much invested against the idea, from all sides.
You can’t have otc opioids in a world where narcan and housing is subsidized.
Correct, rhy, furthering my black pill consumption. Those are free, at least.
And Evan is absolutely right.
The guild has to limit supply, of drugs, hospitals, and membership to the guild. Can’t have too many doctors or hospitals.
THEY ARE LITERALLY BANNING TRANS PEOPLE FROM DRIVING IN KANSAS!!!1112L12KQJ2
Derpiest thing I think I heard today. Nice way to cap it. Don’t know the origin of that, but I suspect something related to making them list biological sex and/or legal names on their ID’s or some shit.
It’s derp-o-clock. Do you know where your derp filled children are? I suspect not.
They’re claiming to be firsters and virtue-signaling about not needing pain pills?
That’s it: “Kansas revokes driver’s licenses of hundreds of trans people, prompted by new law”

Take notes fellas, seems pretty easy to fake or just think of the smart behavior and do the opposite and you’ll be up to your eyeballs in sweet leftwing tail.
I’m trying to imagine the reaction to a “Men, here’s how to find a conservative woman” dating advice article.
Not hard to imagine, but not pleasant: “RHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” 😖
It’d be fairly short.
1. Attend church and avoid denomination x, y, and z.
2. She doesn’t act like a slut and you diving into her sex toy collection if she has one and that collection consists of one repurposed “back massager” is repellant to her.
3. Avoid unnaturally colored hair although exceptions can be made. Please refer to numbers 1 and 2.
4. No septum rings. No exceptions here.

So far, so good. Ninja Cat was demanding attention as soon as I got up, but now that I’m sitting down and drinking my coffee, he’s nowhere to be found. 🙄😻
How are you?
AC got the bedroom temp down to 71 by the time I woke up, so I didn’t want to step outside, but I have an office day today, so I got on the road. Weighed in just a smidge above 280 😔, it saddened me even though I know the day to day fluctuations would lead to that result as a near certainty.
Made it in to the office where I’m scheduling interviews for next week.
*note – I will be asking the questions and doing the hiring, not me interviewing for a different job
Anyone on your interview list who might make it difficult for you (procedurally) to hire the guy you already know and really want?
Everyone is tied for 2nd on the list. (They got a 100 on the exam, and one person’s veterans credits pushed them to 102.5, so the rest of the 100s are 2nd).
This means we can hire on skills. Having prior experience with our applications is a strong indicator in favor.
*Everyone we’re scheduling an interview for.
There are people who scored lower.
So if you have 3 candidates that interview well, and all score 100 on whatever test you give them, but one gets a veterans preference, are you obligated to hire the veteran ?
No, we have to pick someone in the top three. Since there are dozens in 2nd, we have dozens of eligable picks.
Besides, Mr Veterans Credits didn’t even send a resume. Who applies to a job and fails to send a resume? 😡
A veteran who thinks being a veteran is enough to get the job?
Without a resume we won’t even call you in for an interview. If we’re hard pressed we might extend the curtesey to ask for you to send in the missing documentation. But we have enough candidates that we can ignore people who failed to follow basic procedures.
Your hiring process frightens and confuses me.
I wrote a whole article on the process.
NYS Government is in general frightening and confusing.
In my nearly 3 decades of air testing work, I may have submitted 1 resume.
I get hired based on my knowledge and demonstrated skill. I dont have an updated resume if anyone was to ask for it.
So what do you do when you don’t know the hiring manager?
I pretty much never know any of the candidates applying for a job either personally or by reputation. I need a substitute for the initial filtering, because Developers don’t tend to thrive in our niche.
Air testing is kind of a niche, and after so many years everyone knows everyone. You could probably round up all the “stack testers” in the US and fit them in a Vegas resort.
Well, Tres, I’m in a different boat. IT is a fuckoff huge industry.
You cannot extend the curtesy. It’s limited to a life interest to ensure that the children get the Mother’s property when the Father dies even if he remarries.
I did it for you people
Truly, a selfless act of giving back to the community.

What do we know? Private Equity ruins everything it touches.
acquire>cheapen product>fill pockets>sell stripped brand before it goes belly up>brand goes belly up
Ugh.
They patched outlook at work and t turned back on that godawful “Predictive Text” “feature” that is so fucking obnoxious and distracting I have to stop whatever I was trying to write to hunt down and kill the setting.
Ripping me away from thinking about what goes on the page is NOT helpful in any way shape or form. You pop up text in front of my cursor, it jars me out of the moment and I have to go back and pick up my train of thought. I don’t need some computer to randomly guess words to recommend. Writing these emails is my job, I’m perfectly capable of wording them myself.
It occurred to me that since I’m working remotely today, it might behoove me to fire up my work laptop the night before, both to make sure I can connect to the VPN and to get any updates they might be shoving down overnight. I hope I don’t find anything annoying when I log in. 😕
“I am working – I’m updating the laptop.”
wait… that might only work for IT.
My work machine reboots overnight without warning* and whether or not I have stuff unsaved.
*The only indication that it’s coming is a tiny little circle next to “Shut Down” in the start menu. I rarely “shut down” so it might as well be no warning at all.
I learned the importance of saving my work back in the 1980s.
It makes an impression on a child when hours of work are just gone.
For the coders: “commit early. push often.”
suh’ fam
whats goody
/I’m not dealing well with the “no Jugsy” thing, so I think Im heading to W. Kentucky for a few days. Maybe clear my head.
I understand there are a lot of horse farms in western Kentucky.
And yet it’s illegal to sell horse meat for human consumption.
🤔
Yes, I know they raise them for racing. I did spend a birthday betting on the horses at Churchill Downs once. (In a race of four horses, I managed to pick the loser when wither 1st or 2nd would have won me money on the bet I made)
You’re thinking more of the Lexington area.
I’m thinking more Paducah.
Well, Dan Fogelberg specifically said “western Kentucky.”
So what’s in Paducah?
Paducah was just used as a point of reference, like when we tell people we’re from Dayton. Nobody knows where the hell Trotwood is. Or Drexel.
Forgive me for immediately thinking about the sort of Jugsy you’re going to find in Kentucky.
Good morning all!
Full week at work, which used to be typical but major match season is in full swing.
UnCiv: Want to buy some 9mm ammo cheap? $5/box. If I don’t sell it, I’ll just use it on pointless matches like GPA and Steel Challenge.
How many boxes are you looking to offload?
I’ve got an unopened case (20 boxen) and probably 10 more-ish. I’ll take inventory later.
Pointless matches are the ones that use ball-shaped ammo, right?
Ball ammo is a real thing.
And pistol FMJ does have a rounded nose.
⁉️⁉️
Magtech zinc-plated steel case. 3-4% of the time the extractor claw slips off instead of extracting a spent casing, costing me a second or two to rip the mag, (slide closes), reinsert, rerack.
Yes, the matches are pointless, but there are two assholes that I very specifically enjoy beating all the time that are now catching me in the results.
Likely to break a multi year streak of having good vacation weather, the forecast is not optimal for this week.

30 years no longer sounds like a long time. 🤨
A post-internet time capsule is a stupid idea unless you let it alone for a long time.
It feels like nothing much has changed since… 1996?! Good grief.
I’m not sure I agree. How many teens would recognize Star Wars Kid or Numa Numa?
All events were either last week or more than 20 years ago. So 30 years puts it squarely in the long time grouping.
