Shut down the refrigerators? man, that is cold.

What could possibly go wrong with putting a large number of poorly secured devices on the internet to manage essential activities?

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

You obviously know nothing about nuclear power or missle silos.

        Nothing.

      • Threedoor

Only thing that would logicly be online is a warning system that the refers are out of their temperature range.

      • Nephilium

        Threedoor:

No. The warning system may be online, but it should be a read only feed fed by an internal network.

      • Threedoor

        That was my thought Neph.

        Does one thing. Reports out.

      • Threedoor

        Very nice.

Those grocery stores should be state owned anyway.

      • Rat on a train

The refrigerators in the government stores will fail without hacking..

State owned grocery stores have ice boxes.

      • UnCivilServant

Without ice. Because Ice is racist.

I want the word “unprecedented” to be removed from the English language until people learn to ise it correctly.

      • Nephilium

        That would be unprecedented.

Just three months ago, Zohran Mamdani declared New York City “OPEN for Small Business.”

Now he’s declaring open season on them.

    Justice is best served cold.

If it was served warm, it would be justwater.

  4. The Late P Brooks

POWER, however, would allow private plaintiffs to sue over “unfair methods of competition” and any “unfair, deceptive, abusive or unlawful acts or practices in or affecting business, trade or commerce.”

“Amazon uses economies of scale and efficiency tricknology to undercut our prices. Not fair.”

Nonprofits could also sue on behalf of members of the public.

    No way.

    • Rat on a train

The economy of scale for suing organizations should make it profitable.

The fire broke out around 3:15 a.m., but by time firefighters arrived an hour later

Man, we’ve got better response times out here in the boondocks with volunteers.

    • Threedoor

Step aside and wait for the professionals.

    • rhywun

Maybe they had to fight through crowds of peacefully protesting students.

      • juris imprudent

Don’t be silly, why would a news story omit something like that?

    • Necron 99

My five years old grandson relayed a tall tale about a fire, a squirrel, a transformer, water bottles and the fire department to me the other day. It was difficult to understand all his ramblings, but I got the gist of the story. I had to confirm it with his parents, but yes, a squirrel did in fact get blasted by a transformer and upon his rapid decent to the grass below, did start a fire. Onlookers were trying to put out the fire with water bottles when the local VFD arrived to spray down the remaining flames. Apparently, they don’t have squirrel ambulances (which is a big disappointment to a five year old,) so the injured squirrel was collected by a neighbor and will be rehabilitated. It was quite the tale, had me enthralled the whole time.

      • Rat on a train

A squirrel shorted a transformer outside the office I worked at. The FD showed up. They were trying to figure out the cause. I pointed them to the fried squirrel on the other side of the street.

Le Marché des Enfants Rouges, which translates to the Red Children, was named for a nearby orphanage that closed in 1772. The children housed there were known for wearing red clothing.

It translates to the Red Children Market, which is where Native American orphans were sold to Renaissance era libertarians.

      Closed before monocles took off.

I was there almost exactly 1 month ago. It was very cool and I was very sorry to read that story this morning. Just… gone.

    ME TOO

A woman says someone sexually assaulted her at a fraternity house near the University of Chicago campus early Sunday morning, according to Chicago police and an alert by the university.

Police said the alleged assault happened in the Hyde Park neighborhood’s 5600-block of South University Avenue around 2 a.m.

A 21-year-old woman says a male offender sexually assaulted her inside of a residence, and she self-transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center for treatment.

    ——-

“The chapter is working cooperatively with the university administration and local law enforcement on its investigations. Pending the results of that investigation, the chapter has been told to not hold any events or programs.

“As a Jewish fraternity, one of the values of our teachings we hold most important is that all human beings are fashioned B’tselm Elohim, in the image of G-d. Therefore, it is wrong to treat anyone without dignity, no matter their gender, race, sexual orientation or religion. This, obviously, applies to sexual assault and harassment.

“Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity unconditionally opposes, and its conditions of membership absolutely prohibit, any conduct considered as “sexual harassment” or “sexual assault.” This includes such behaviors as repeated propositioning, coercive pressure, unwanted touching and physical violence.

The definition of sexual assault is rather broad. Inclusive, one might say.

    • dbleagle

My BS meter is pegging the top line. The Jewish fraternity huh? What are the chances? Did they attacker shout “This is Bibi country!”

If you put your foot to the floor for more than 5 seconds it will assume you may wish it to downshift.

Two children under the age of 10 were killed in a shooting in Los Angeles’ Pico-Union neighborhood Sunday after their father allegedly opened fire on them before turning the gun on himself, according to police.

The shooting occurred just before 1 p.m. near Venice Boulevard and Catalina Street, the Los Angeles Police Department said. The father reportedly shot his 10-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son before turning the gun on himself, according to police.

The children were taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead. Police said the gunman, described as a Hispanic man between 30 and 40 years old, is in custody while receiving treatment at a hospital. His condition was not immediately available.

Cities that have the most rats in the US

New York City, Los Angeles, and Philadelphia rank as the city with the most rats and mice due to abundant food waste, shelter, and dense populations.

In New York they don’t hide.

    • creech

In those cities, they also win elections.
