Santo and Blue Demon vs. Dr. Frankenstein

It was a crazy week for me, topped by hanging out with the Tall Thin Spaniard what Lurks* for cigars and bourbon instead of writing up my movie post. So my tarot reading was right! “Selfishness, the crowd, body politic.” But things worked out. Some previous hard work and communication paid off. This week, some really great things happened (Not all due to me):

  • SP got out of the hospital! I can’t really top that in news, but I can nerd out about films, below:
  • Lloyd Kaufman put some of his classic Troma films on Tubi! Yay, peer pressure!
  • Shout! Factory TV released a whole series of Luche Libre films, with dubbing and subtitles. Wow! That was overdue.

So this resets a lot of what I planned on doing this week and forward. I was torn on what to post next and went Lucha Libre. Lloyd gets posted next. The older Luche Libre films on Tubi lacked both dubbing and subtitles, and the sound was murky. So unless you were a native Spanish speaker you’d have a hell of a time figuring out what people were saying. The ones Shout! TV released look like cleaned up prints and they have my favorite feature…. Bad dubbing. Oh my God it’s so bad. On Santo: Fist of Death  it sounded like it was dubbed by a disinterested high school drama class, which erased the entire soundtrack – sound effects, everything, and just overlaid their malaise dubbing. Also that film was edited by a blind man so you feel like you are on acid after watching it for an hour and a half. Only the boobs kept me going.

So hell yes! That one will be reviewed later. Today, I am reviewing Santo and Blue Demon vs. Dr. Frankenstein (trailer provided). I like these team up films with Blue Demon. It’s like a buddy movie for Luche Libre. You may still want to take some kind of mood enhancer of your choice before viewing, because this is a hot mess of fun. If you are unfamiliar with Luche Libre films, rest assured this is the way they normally go. Suspend all belief, those who enter here! As a primer, I included links here for El Santo and Blue Demon for anyone unfamiliar with the world of Lucha Libre.

So about them Oscars – Since Will Smith sucker punched Chris Rock, I thought I would pose this question – what would happen if you sucker punched this man? Blue Demon looks like a real-life Brock Sampson, and he had the skills to back it up. We could end Hollywood one scissor kick at a time.

I have no idea how I got this post done, but I am happy. And yes, it is not the Three Stooges. Once again they go to the back burner!
So watch! Or Don’t! Everything is voluntary. Next week is Class of Nuke’Em High, because I asked for it and I got it!

(*) Tall Thin Spaniard what Lurks is one of the many lurkers I have identified who may never comment or post.  Others include Bethannica, The California Crowd and Retired Rambo.
