That’s all I got for today. I’ll leave you with a song and enjoy my Easter weekend.

My dick.
You may want to seek medical attention.
Or some lady friend to take off the edge..
Think about the ladies of The View. That should solve the issue.
Thanks for causing a medical emergency Jarflax…
Thinking about Whoopie prevents whoopie.
That’s how humanity dies out…

I was tempted to reply with a link, but as it is Good Friday, I will refrain.
Ok, that is a lie. I couldn’t think of a way to link you to a gif of Whoopie that didn’t involve me seeing it first.
OK, it is good to know you have a self preservation instinct, Jarflax…
As Dusty Springfield might have sung, “The only one who could ever shoot me/Is the son of a deputy”.
What a piece of work.
“It was totally fine for me to sneak him out of the country a few years back, but not giving me current updates on his life is unconscionable.”
Local news finally ran a story about Tish being referred for prosecution… immediately before switching to “school shooting!”
The proposed new discovery laws wouldn’t be used against her, of course.
Those are A: state laws, and B: not implemented. This is a Federal case.
They were waiting for something that could distract from the story.
In other quickly forgotten news, all mention of the man who set fire to the governor’s residence in PA.
That doesn’t count, cause….
The narrative…
Chutkan earlier this week ordered the EPA to release the money that was designated to eight climate finance organizations during the Biden administration as part of Congress’ historic Inflation Reduction Act.
1) That would have done nothing to reduce inflation.
2) How do you finance the climate anyway?
Taxpayers need to fund climate organizations so that they can weather the tough times that are coming.
Ever since computing moved to the cloud, you can do EFTs to weather.
That’s assuming you have access to the Cloud. Which I do at the moment. But frequently I don’t. Which is why I prefer to keep my data (such as it is) backed up to hard drives.
I’m at work, so I have no choice. They moved my email to the cloud (stupid fuckers), and want to shift other stuff there despite it never being the more cost effective or reliable option.
At home, I have 7TB on a NAS whose backup I’m still trying to solve.
One of Kathy’s cousins has the cloud contract?
It’s Microsoft, so it’s probably just classic kickbacks.
” How do you finance the climate anyway?”
Well, paying a geezer to look out of the window during the winter months would be a good start.
I would, I mean, the government employee concerned could keep a journal, if he didn’t forget.
keep a journal, if he didn’t forget
With climate that isn’t a problem, just make up a few entries and you’re good!
As long as the entries match the model Comrade. Otherwise there will be a problem!
You want to try to claw back money from this bitch? She snap you like a chicken-wing!
Stacey Abrams is one of the most visible proofs that you can be both one of the dumbest fucking people on the planet and evil as shit, but if you play team blue politics there are enough lemmings to make bank. “China reached out on tariffs”
I thought China’s response was to slap tariffs on the US.
That’s a form of outreach.
But really I want the screws tightened until it’s less profitable to stay in China than to manufacture elsewhere.
Require China to have Human Resources offices, pay minimum wages of $17 @ hour, things like that
“But really I want the screws tightened until it’s less profitable to stay in China than to manufacture elsewhere.”
It has to go way beyond that. We need to start accepting that the CCP has been at war with us for over a decade, and make sure they understand there will be no winner if they go kinetic as they plan.
Alex, the problem is the Chinese really do think long-term, and Americans don’t (regardless of party). That is a substantial advantage.
“Alex, the problem is the Chinese really do think long-term, and Americans don’t (regardless of party). That is a substantial advantage.”
You are absolutely correct JI. No question about this. We have completely lost the ability – and will – to think long term.
However, we are at a junction right now that we have an opportunity to prevent a global calamity. The CCP, thinking long term, and focused on keeping its power and expanding that across the globe, made some real bad decisions. Between the one child policies and the inevitable authoritarian decision making that requires them to massively inflate and lie about their economic growth, the CCP has left the xenophobic country with a both a massive population age problem and a disparity between men and women that leave some 80 million Chinese men without ever being able to marry. Couple that with the fact their ridiculous economic growth numbers are all smoke and mirrors, based on some of the worst possible short term bad investment as well as building decisions, their currency manipulation, and their need to have markets to dump the cheap and crappy shit they make from stealing trillions of dollars of IP without even a hint of shame, they have created a massive entity on quicksand.
Without the US market, and more importantly, without the US letting them conduct the criminal business of the last 2 decades as usual, the CCP’s promise of an economic dream to the people they hold hostage (the Chinese citizens) evaporates in a flash. All that nationalism and military buildup then turns into a danger to the CCP members, and especially Xi. And they know this. That is why they keep moving the timeline for the criminal military shit they had planned up over and over. They are racing against a doom clock.
We finally have a chance to cow them into backing off. We either take the short term pain to stop them, or we will face an extinction level war sooner than later.
“the problem is the Chinese really do think long-term”
Well, except for that whole “one child” thing. And that ghost cities thing.
Alex, the problem is the Chinese really do think long-term
That is great if you make sure to keep checking reality and making course corrections. Not so great if everyone is lying about reality and not making those course corrections.
I remember when the Japanese long term thinking was the big threat to us. That was shortly before their protectionism, aging population, and the simple economic reality that the growth rate you can achieve when rebuilding a first world economy from rubble is not the same as the growth rate you can achieve once you are fully rebuilt, put them into a generation long stagnation.
“That is great if you make sure to keep checking reality and making course corrections. Not so great if everyone is lying about reality and not making those course corrections.”
Great summation of what I was saying your holiness.
Thinking long term, if based on bad data and delusions, which is what they have, will go wrong.
To go along with the theme of short & long term thinking, I really thought during COVID people in the US had learned their lesson. There were problems getting drugs, respirators, and a lot of other critical things. China could (and did) cut off anything at any time for any reason. I expected manufacturing to shift to the US. But it never did.
Also, China’s one party rule means they can focus on ruthlessly pursuing what they deem best for China. They don’t have to deal with honest debate or dishonest politics.
Oh, there’s plenty of dishonest politics inside the CCP, we just don’t get as much direct exposure to it.
“I expected manufacturing to shift to the US. But it never did.”
Actually TOK, it did happen. It was just not as obvious or blatant. A lot of stuff moved from CCP-land to India, Vietnam, Singapore, and other places, but it was unfortunately not a lot of the real critical stuff that should never have been in CCP-land. The problem was that at the rate it was happening CCP-land was still gonna pull a fast one and wreck it all. It seems DJT has decided to just throw a wrench in their plans and derail that train.
To be honest, everyone that had shit in CCP-land knew from the onset – they had Tiananmen, massive IP stealing, a lot of it for military applications, and numerous other examples – that CCP-land was a bad deal, but Wall Street and the politicians made bank from forcing stuff to go there so it kept happening. The fact we didn’t all declare war on CCP-land after their government shut down internal travel in CCP-land, when they realized 2 strains of the Kung Flu had gotten loose, but boosted international travel from infected CCP-land areas, should give everyone a pause.
During the first Cold War we didn’t enable the economy of the USSR so they could build even more weapons to come at us with. We have done that with CCP-land in this second Cold War.
“China’s one party rule means they can focus on ruthlessly pursuing what they deem best for China”
I would have gone with “best for the Party”.
Per an article I just read (in relation to another board game publisher complaining because their stock is still in China) the tariffs on Chinese imports is up to over 240%.

And also…
That is indeed an interesting bit of information to suppress early on.
“Alexander confessed to shaking and hitting the baby with an object, according to court records obtained by The Dallas Morning News. He pleaded guilty in 2011 and the judge sentenced him to probation. He was sentenced in 2016 to five years in prison for violating probation multiple times, but served only eight days due to the probation counting toward his sentence.
He was indicted once again on felony theft charges that were increased due to a 2013 forgery conviction, the Dallas Express reported, citing court records. He pleaded guilty in 2021 and was sentenced to two days in jail.

But Trump has to spend thousands of years in prison since each alleged false statement needs to be sentenced separately.
Silly link of the day.
Trump, like every Republican (since Coolidge) before him, isn’t going to preside over declining spending. Part of our current problem goes right back to his last year in office and the COVID spending fiasco.
So yeah, my money is on the meteor.
So a slow ride off the cliff, in a short bus then. I am going with the fact it is better than in that 1976 Volvo station wagon with a Saturn V rocket tied to its roof team blue had us going in…
The last fiscal year in which the debt outstanding went down (IE, we ran a surplus) was 6/30/1956-6/30/1957. How did Ike do it? It would be interesting to see what those budgets looked like. I am guess spending increased a little but the economy grew so fast that tax revenue went up even faster.
BTW, he did it 2 consecutive years.
And before anyone asks, 9/30/1999-9/30/2000 did go up, although slightly less than $18B, so effectively balanced. There was no Clinton surplus.
Reminder, tomorrow is the 250th anniversary of the start of the American Revolutionary War and Sunday is when Trump will declare martial law ending democracy …
Sunday is when Trump will declare martial law
Should make for an interesting set of astrological forecasts.
You saying one or more whack job leftists with delusions of becoming a heartthrob like Mangione will come out to commit real terrorist acts the media will label as mostly peaceful protests is a thing for this weekend?
Stars do not give an indication of that. FAKE NEWS!
What is tomorrow the 250th anniversary of? Lexington and Concord? Or some other event?
Lexington and Concord
Yup. The OG boog.
March 23 was the 250th anniversary of Patrick Henry’s infamous speech.
“Gentlemen may cry, Peace, Peace– but there is no peace. The war is actually begun!”
Henry thinks tomorrow is a little late.
If by “democracy” they are using the Democrats’ definition, I am totally behind that.
So Trump is counting on people being too stoned to care? Smart.

Shorter Douglas Murray: “waaaaaaah!”
This should tell you everything you need to about that prick:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neoconservatism:_Why_We_Need_It
He’s never seen a war he didn’t like I don’t think.
Also, he has a bachelor’s of English so by his own standards he should shut the fuck up.
There are standards. Well, standard: “can you defend your statements?”
Having spent most of the last 18 months in Israel, Gaza, Lebanon and Ukraine, I don’t think I know everything.
But I think I know a darn sight more than someone like comic Smith, who admitted he’d never even been to the region he spends all his time talking about.
“Oh, so you have to go to a country to comment on it, do you,” said part of the internet.
Again the answer is obviously not.
But if it is your job, or you’re making it your job, then probably yes.
My point is stupid but also good.
That was a real cripple fight.
I like Dave Smith on some stuff (he fought hard against the Rona restrictions), but he’s is utterly retarded on Israel and Oct. 7th.
I skip any episode where he goes on rants about how Israel pretty much deserved Oct 7th because they were so mean to the Palis.
Has he ever commented on Iran or North Korea? My guess would be yes. Has he been to those nations? Doubtful. It’s a good thing to travel to areas you expound on but not a requirement. His point sucks and is nothing but an appeal to authority.
Oh, and he’s an asshole.
Spot on, Pope. I listen to Dave Smith’s podcast quite a bit, but October 7/Israel-Hamas has completely broken his brain. And Douglas Murray made a complete ass of himself on that Rogan podcast. Looks like he’s decided to double down.
“Haley Joel Osment called a police officer an antisemitic slur and a “Nazi” when he was arrested for public intoxication and possession of a controlled substance at a California ski resort earlier this month, as seen in bodycam footage obtained by The Post on Thursday.”

Well, which is it?
“In the bodycam footage, police noted finding what they believed to be cocaine residue on money discovered with his room key in his ski helmet.”
Plenty of money has cocaine residue. If I remember, when the DOJ looked into it, even Janet Reno had drug tainted cash.
He saw dead (((people)))?
An “antisemitic nazi,” obvs.
He called him a Soros?
It must suck to have been such a big hit as a young child and then grow up into the version of some fugly Sesame Street character as an adult that makes you invisible to the world…
OTOH, I feel sorry for child stars, their lives tend to really suck, and they probably get abused by producers/directors.
OTOH, they also probably get to bang some extremely fine hotties.
Sure but at least he made some bank back when the getting was good.
His mom made some bank. I have no idea how much of it went to him when he turned 18.
I am sad to have to admit that finding out that Judicial Watch: Emails Reveal White House’s Detailed Revisions to Transcript of President Biden Interview with Special Counsel leaves me cold, cause I expected this shit to be the case. I would have been surprised if that had not been the case considering what all we know was done, and done to us, during Obama 3.0 admin.

Was the kid gay? Were the women hideous? I can remember being 15.
We need pics of the women to judge! Although…
hmm, 40 something polyamorous with the pictured guy…
Nah, I’m good.
Maybe the women’s coochies smelled like lutefisk?
I was hot for teacher; therefore female teacher sleeping with male student should be legal.

Interesting euphemism, Fourscore.
Not all sex is rape. I understand some lawheads think “THERE MUST BE A RULE” but they’re wrong.
“The victim said he felt pressured have sex with his father and these women, and claimed at one point Witt told him to ‘be a man.’ “
I don’t think what was done and what’s said here match up. Can’t anyone write a damn understandable sentence anymore?
Columbia replaced all the Writing for Clarity and Style courses to make room for Anti-Zionism and White Privilege courses. You have to prioritize.
Some people don’t want to have group sex?
Is it just me, or is the DJ equipment kind of a funny thing for an orgy? Also, why are they calling it a threesome when 5 people were involved?
‘Fivesome’ doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. Pun very much intended.
It would have been six if they hired a DJ.
It got weird when the dad joined in.
That song is sublime. It’s one of those “love at first sound” songs for me.

“Representatives for Karmelo Anthony in his murder case in the killing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf called the police on Metcalf’s father for showing up to a Thursday press conference that they were holding.

“While Dominique Alexander was speaking to reporters on Thursday, he said that “Frisco ISD is trying to push off the blame” because the school district is taking steps to expel Anthony, insinuating that the school district was to blame for the stabbing.
He then added, “what I have not heard the media say, as many media outlets asked us what went on, I’m trying to find how many of y’all have asked the superintendent on one of these board of trustees: Why didn’t you cancel or postpone with weather in that magnitude? You couldn’t have a track meet in the rain or thunderstorms or clouds.”
“Y’all are the media. Ask your journalist, your weather journalist, how the weather was that day and that time. Y’all do that research. ‘Cause as a person, who is the administrator of your children, you are responsible for the safety of the children. I’m thinking having a race-grifting domestically-violent semi-literate asshole speaking for the defendant might not help his case.
I thought people couldn’t be removed from press conferences.
You don’t know what you can get away with, until you try.
For example, stabbing someone is usually frowned upon.
Apparently we are in a “Constitutional crisis” because the Trump administration won’t immediately and unquestioningly comply with any demand from any judge. That seems reasonable.
Why hasn’t a judge ordered Trump to support Ukraine yet?
I heard the judges told him they would drop the other unconstitutional and illegal shit they were doing “IF” he switched to sending loads of cash and weapons to Uke for team blue to steal and then start up massive color revolution riots in the US against his government..
I heard it said the other day, that these judges right now have more power than the President and the entire Supreme Court.
“Some conservative scholars have argued that the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment doesn’t grant citizenship to children of immigrants if they are born in the U.S., while liberal scholars argue it does.”
Citizenship is a social construct. It’s whatever the government says it is. If it’s by soil, then it’s by soil. If it’s by blood, then it’s by blood.
Are you quoting someone who’s being disingenuous and mislabelling Illegal Aliens as “immigrants”?
No one reads the links.
I remind you that it is the same people that demand you refer to “illegal aliens” as “undocumented immigrants”, that want to change calling “child molesters” to “minor attracted persons”…..
Common Tater – I read the links, I just don’t follow them to the linked articles.
In case you didn’t know
For Democrats, the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case is about fundamental American ideals — due process, following court orders, preventing government overreach. For the Trump administration and Republicans, it’s about foreigners and gang threats and danger in American towns and cities.
And that argument is precisely the one that Donald Trump wants to have.
This dichotomy is playing out as Democrats double down on their defense of Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran man mistakenly deported and imprisoned without communication. They’re framing his case as a threat to individual rights to challenge President Trump’s immigration policies.
Those noble Democrats are standing up for Truth, Justice and the American Way against the tyrannous monster in the White House.
“mistakenly deported” – there it is again and still, no reason why he’s been mistakenly deported. Just baselessly asserted.
Clearly it was a mistake – he already had a deportation order!
Apparently he wasn’t supposed to be deported to El Salvador. Perhaps he could be dropped off in Guatemala.
An outstanding deportation order, the propriety of which I don’t think anyone has challenged.
And you can’t have it both ways. As a Salvadoran illegal immigrant, El Salvador is the place for him to go because why not, or he shouldn’t go to El Salvador because he’s MS-13. Which also means he can’t stay here, and he can’t be sent here from El Salvador.
An outstanding deportation order, the propriety of which I don’t think anyone has challenged.
I think it was being challenged. The Federal government admitted in court, referenced in the recent Supreme Court ruling, that Garcia could not be deported due to a withholding order on the deportation order.
“could”/”should”
“Maryland Democrat U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen met with deported illegal alien Kilmar Abrego Garcia in his native El Salvador on Thursday where he gazed deeply, lovingly and closely in the eyes of the accused wife-beater and MS-13 gang member.”

TPTB, the Stoic post for the week has been posted, please schedule it.
Thank you ron73440.
It’s been scheduled.
Other high-profile Democrats such as Hillary Clinton, California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are making a public appeal by painting the case as an example of government overreach.
Noted advocates of limited Constitutional government, one and all.

My dad’s friend had that on a sign in the garage, but the punch line was if you go to heaven you got nothing to worry about, but if you got to hell…
You’ll be too busy shaking hands with your old friends to worry.
“mistakenly deported” – there it is again and still, no reason why he’s been mistakenly deported. Just baselessly asserted.
As much as I have avoided reading anything about the guy, I believe one of the government’s attorneys said something in court about it being some sort of error (for which he was removed), which has, of course, been latched onto tenaciously by the lampreys of the press.
How to distinguish Asian languages…
At the Polish deli today to pickup Easter supplies. The line is out the door, at least 30 people ahead of me and a bunch behind now. Crazy.
The signs have been up at several of the bakeries for a week here: “Pre-orders only”.
I wish I had done this.
Lackadaisical:
If I’m planning on bringing anything to the family gathering I do. But my nephews don’t want strudel, butter horns, or the like. I blame the parents.
What the what?!?
Kids today got no sense.
@Neph, that’s incomprehensible.
Getting some nalesniki and kielbasa now.
Lack/ron:
The nephews have always been picky eaters, being unwilling to try new things. This has lead to several entertaining (to me at least) situations. One was an Easter brunch where I made caramel cardamom rolls. The boys were completely unwilling to try them, until their mom pointed out that the sticky stuff all over the top was sugar (caramel, but whatever). After the more adventurous one stuck his finger in and tasted it, they burned through them, and complained that they were “weird”.
Another time I was taking the boys out for an event, so we met at a midway point to grab some food. We chose Happy Dog, a place specializing in hot dogs, fries, and tater tots. The boys didn’t like hot dogs (one ordered a plain one, with no bun) and were unwilling to try tater tots.
The girlfriend and I tease them about this now that they’re teenagers.
There is something seriously wrong with them.
Thanks to Trump it’s safe to celebrate Easter again.
Let’s not get carried away… I usually buy a few days ago and it’s still common here for people to get good Friday off.

Unfortunately he didn’t understand how international phone rates work, and has racked up $300 in calls. Live and learn.
Did you ask him how stable the island was? I hear it’s prone to capsizing.
But Guam isn’t international.
Correct. So it seems he didn’t realize it was fine to make voice calls, but he was getting charged a premium for data.
Oh my.
Hey yourself a (free) Whatsapp account bro. Geeze.
He could have bought an egg with that kind of money!
Incentives matter
“This is part of an unrelenting upward trend,” Kennedy told reporters during a news conference Wednesday at HHS. “Overall autism is increasing in prevalence at an alarming rate.”
Citing much lower rates in earlier decades, Kennedy pushed back against the idea that the increases “are simply artifacts of better diagnoses, better recognition or changing diagnostic criteria,” adding “the epidemic is real.” He said HHS is committed to investigating environmental causes of autism, calling it “a preventable disease.”
Within two to three weeks, the agency will announce a series of new studies “to identify precisely what the environmental toxins are that are causing” autism, he said, adding “we’re going to get back to it with an answer to the American people very, very quickly.” On Tuesday HHS announced it expects to begin to have answers by September.
Some independent experts and advocates say that’s not nearly enough time to design and conduct a good-quality study that could produce a reliable answer.
Science: totally not a scam.
‘it expects to begin to have answers by September.’
No way. Unless they just gave the perfect data set sitting around.
I actually agree with the unnamed ‘experts’.
I don’t know, lot of experts didn’t seem to have a problem with un-possible time scales for sciency-type experiments/studies back in 2020.
Yeah, but the answer is not to be like idiots to spite them.
I’m of the opinion that the epidemic is — in fact — not real.
In fact, the reason so many people are saying to RFK “my autistic child is actually great!” is precisely because it’s not.
I don’t agree with that artificial deadline either. But I think it’s despicable that Dems like Elizabeth Warren are criticizing him for finally calling attention to a problem that has such a huge impact on many families.
https://x.com/SenWarren/status/1912895256040726625
I saw on X where Kennedy said some kids with Autism can’t hold jobs and other things.
That was followed by a bunch of shrieking.
“My kid has autism and he has a job!”
People just keep getting dumber and dumber.
Apparently nobody knows what the word “some” means.
Where were you the last 20 years?
That’s been the state of Internet discourse for at least that long.
Don’t argue with your opponent’s point. That is hardmode. Argue with a less accurate derivation from his point. There is no limit to how much less accurate in this. And above all, nuance is the enemy! Pointing out nuances makes you all gay and tarded.
“to identify precisely what the environmental toxins are that are causing” autism
This seems like phenomenal question-begging, and I’m even sympathetic to the premise (that administering a pile of pharmaceuticals all at once could cause brain inflammation leading to cognitive deficits).
Kennedy’s comments drew pushback from researchers who study autism as well as patient advocates. They say rising rates have to with improved screening and that years of research point to a wide variety of causes for the condition, including genetic, biological and environmental factors.
It’s very unlikely that autism is caused by “one thing,” said Catherine Lord, a professor of human development and psychology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA via email.
Zachary Warren, a pediatric psychiatrist and autism researcher at Vanderbilt University agrees. “We may have hundreds, if not thousands, of different neurogenetic factors that in combination with complicated environmental interactions influence presentations of autism,” he said via email.
You didn’t really think we were here looking for a solution, did you? We’re making too much money concocting “research”.
There is one thing that causes autism, but not the only thing: genetics.
The difference between my daughter and me is that when I was tested in 1975-76, the concept of a spectrum didn’t exist, so I was “borderline”, so am undiagnosed.
My daughter tested in 2018 clearly met the on the spectrum standard.
“rising rates have to with improved screening”
For cases on one side of the spectrum, sure. But it’s pretty obvious we have a lot more cases on the far side of the spectrum, where kids are nonverbal, not toilet trained, etc.
It’s very unlikely that autism is caused by “one thing,” said Catherine Lord, a professor of human development and psychology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA via email.

Despite this, the same experts will tell you with 100% certainty that there is zero possible association between any vaccine, any reaction, and any single case of autism. Nevermind Hannah Poling. Nevermind the 2% of the population with a mitochondrial genetic defect that appears to react poorly as newborns when given 5-7 different vaccinations at one visit as infants. And this reaction in a small segment of the population could be strongly associated.
We don’t know what causes autism, we think there are thousands of unidentified genetic and environmental factors, but we know this one factor absolutely can’t play any role in it. Science.
This one person who is the paragon of sanity and ‘normal’, staying that way uniformly throughout life, I would like that person’s name.
Also, this definition of autism I would like precisely spelled out. What definition was used before, what is now?
We have been down this road before a number of times. It is bullshit.
Characteristics in common with Isaac Newton?
Lunch ending and I’m again shocked time can go by that fast. I’ve been here six hours?!
Double-plus for lunch at 10. Get most of it out of the way. Later tonight 4yo has soccer ‘practice.’ I saw one of their games last week and oddly, he isn’t nearly as aggressive as I thought he’d be. He was distracted by his best friend on the team! They were holding hands at one point while actively playing. Adorable.
I just want him to chase the ball, really. He usually loves it, but Confusion Dust was thick in the air. It’ll be a lot of fun.
That age is a lot of fun.
When my son was 4 he played tee ball.
He would chase butterflies in the outfield.
‘Federal judge rules Google has a monopoly in ad tech’
I’m conflicted, our business sees marked increase in traffic when we pay for Google ads, even though almost none of the leads come from the ad itself. Meaning you come up better in search of you pay for ads, regardless of other metrics (we didn’t change anything else). So a certain amount of our revenue goes to Google for ads that don’t really work, but paying for increases our traffic…
That said, not really the government’s place.
The thing is that the government works hand in glove with Big Tech. So I could see the “libertarian” argument if they were truly private companies, but they aren’t.
“Near the end of the Biden administration, researchers at the University of California, Irvine, were awarded a $683,000 federal grant to investigate how misinformation and disinformation on social media impact “vaccine acceptance among black and Latinx individuals.” UC Irvine said it would enroll “followers of known vaccine-hesitant influencers” and “develop a tool” to visualize its findings.
The award is among more than 800 federal grants and contracts since 2017, totaling more than $1.4 billion, to help curb speech considered by the U.S. government to be misinformation and disinformation. More than 600 were made during the years when Joe Biden was president…”

“misinformation and disinformation” that wasn’t either.
Latinx? Big bullshit warning there.
“I celebrated the rise of new media. What could go wrong with ‘democratizing information’? As it turns out, quite a lot. Witness the Douglas Murray and Dave Smith debate.”

Paywalled, so like Douglas Murray, it never gets to an actual argument.
Free speech bad. I knew it.
Looks like it’s here:

Sorry, that’s just a longer excerpt, the rest is paywalled.

I think we all know the correct solution.

Unprecedented assault on civil society advocates
Environmental, immigration and civil society advocacy groups have been bracing for potential threats to their tax-exempt status, according to a person familiar with the situation and granted anonymity to discuss it. The person said some expect Trump might start taking action against the environmental groups on Earth Day, which is Tuesday.
These are the largely nonprofit organizations and groups, many based in Washington, advocating for various communities, constituencies and causes.
Kieran Suckling, executive director of the Center for Biological Diversity, said environmental groups have heard that the Trump administration is preparing executive orders targeting the tax status of environmental groups that work on climate change, as well as that of any foundations that fund their work.
“Trump is marshaling all the power of government to punish his perceived enemies,” Suckling said. “We’ve got a crack legal team and will have him in court within 24 hours. We’re ready and waiting for him to come at us.”
Trump is waging all out war on the most fastidiously apolitical and patriotic organizations in the country. It’s shameful.
I was just recently saying that I’m kind of alright with getting rid of tax exemption for entities entirely. Fuck it, simplify the system, cut spending, and cut taxes.
Aren’t non-profit orgs still gonna make no taxable income though?
Urthona:
Depends on how the tax laws are written. I’m sick of all the special carve outs and exceptions built into the current legal system.
It goes without saying that I also wouldn’t be forgiving student loans for working at a government/non-profit job.
Anyone remember Obama’s IRS targeting conservative organizations?
Wasn’t that a right-wing conspiracy theory?
Yup. Although they could never prove it went all the way to the top. Could’ve been that the government class just protects the government class.
Six hard drives magically went bad.
EvilSheldon:
Would the NRA prosecution count?
Common Tater – I know the excuse was bullshit, but statistically, hard drives from the same batch tend to fail around the same time as each other. Though I expect that failure was induced.
Good for us. Force Britain to drop their Orwellian laws. Get them to free the prisoners they confined based on mean tweets. I say triple the tariffs until the British elites break. Somebody has to help the British people.

Can we also get them to deal with their rape gang problem and migrant invaders?
While we’re fantasizing.
I hope they suggest something along those lines. Absolutely dropping the hate speech laws is part of tariff discussions.
Wisconsin governor can lock in 400-year school funding increase using a veto, court says
WTF?
That is entirely broken as demonstrated by the blatantly insane application in this case.
Eliminate it and the governor, Cheeseheads. Your choice of methodology is up to you, but do not go quiet.
Good grief. Who in their right mind thought that this would be a good idea?
Strike that. I know exactly who thought it would be a good idea – people who thought that their party would be in power forever.
Yes, Tommy Thompson used it broadly when he was R Governor.
I was just recently saying that I’m kind of alright with getting rid of tax exemption for entities entirely. Fuck it, simplify the system, cut spending, and cut taxes.
Organizations founded on the principle of “civil society” should be proud and happy to contribute their fair share to the government.
Today I learned that Rod Stewart and Elton John made a version of the song Makin’ Whoopie together. Imagine my horror.
