Can I say something that will offend you? Low key I think everyone today that says they eat ass are the same people 20 years ago shouting “I’m Rick James, BITCH”.

Its tiresome. Anyways, here’s some links.
The stock market does what it does. Buy the rumor, sell the news.
Eliminating student debt was the wrong thing to do. Although making it clear art majors with unpaid balances that somehow disappeared, and suddenly reappear just warms my cold, dead heart. It might get bad when enough of them default.
I suppose your body was never yours.
Sounds like they shouldn’t be in business.
I’m going back to work now.

Report: Scientists Look to Dim the Sun to Counter ‘Runaway Climate Change’
Nuclear winter is the solution to AGW.
Make your train reservation now.
Life imitates Fallen Angels.
If we go this route, can I at least get my arcologies and burbclaves?
No, because ‘burbclave’ is a terrible name.
UCS:
It’s from a book with Hiro Protagonist, Y.T., and rat-things. Burbclaves is a perfectly cromulent name for an enclosed suburb.
But you don’t live in that book.
You live in a much less entertaining book.
I would love* to see a Snow Crash movie.
I guess they would have to make it Hiro’s grandfather who was in WW2 now though.
*it would probably suck and I would probably hate it, but you know what I mean.
robc:
Both HBO and Amazon had announced a Snow Crash series, neither have made a show yet, based on Wiki, looks like it’s at Paramount now:
Swap out Hiro for an androgynous 90 pound girl-boss fighting the patriarchy and the grandfather for one of those women who sorted the mail and saved us from Hitler and I’m in!
Gyro:
You’ve already got Y.T. for that. She even has a skateboard and a denteta anti-rape device.
Why do you think they kept trying to escalate the Ukraine war?
No need to be that drasitc, we can appease the sun with burnt offerings of climate scientists.
This is the best solution to the climate problem I have seen yet!
We’ll just unfurl a big awning out at Earth’s L1 Lagrange point.
They gotta lotta nice girls out there…
For a few years maybe… if the planet can bounce back from supervolcanos, I expect even a nuclear exchange’s dust and smoke will settle down after a while. (Not that human civilization would likely survive multiple years of full on winter… though it raises the question in my mind… never really looked at the data — what are the fallout patterns, how would it affect the equatorial regions and could a mass migration there in search of relatively arable land happen before total systemic collapse?
I’m sure FedGov has run the models and has plans to flee the sinking ship like rats if it comes down to it.
Matthew 24:29
Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken
And here I thought throwing money out the window was a United States thing.
Honestly that doesn’t offend me…. of course it might be because I fundamentally don’t understand doing either (but if others want to with consenting adults… whatever… go have your Rick James Bitchy Salons and Ass Eating Emporiums….)
My gut instinct is you might have some selection bias from your clientele there, Winston’s Mom. And thank you for the links… always nice to see you.
Me? Selection bias? Never.
My plans for financing my kids college are ruined.
Just go into the black market organ market as a harvester and collect from people wanting to give back to the needy. Ignore their protestations that they just wanted yaxpayer dollars to be diverted.
Yup… businesses may love stability — but I don’t doubt some folks are making serious bank off of OMB’s volatility. My natural proclivity for lethargy serves me well to not get worked about these things.
lethargystoicismFixed it for us…
“The government can and will collect defaulted federal student loan debt by withholding money from borrowers, tax refunds, federal pensions and even their wages,” she said.
Who will be first to refuse to garnish their employees’ wages for repayment? Let the lawsuits commence.
And since the government took over this industry, the fun is you and I get to pay these loans off now. Whee!
The best part of this is that the government took over the student loan program because the “revenue” generated by the student loans was used to offset the costs of Obamacare to show that the Obamacare legislation was revenue neutral over the required 10-year horizon.
I didn’t think you could on student loans — has that changed? (I mean yeah… you can stop paying — but like the IRS, the Government will get its pound of flesh one way or another… )
Pretty sure you can default, you just can’t discharge them in bankruptcy.
You can’t discharge through bankruptcy.
If they aren’t paying them now isn’t that a de facto default?
Anyone seeking to rewrite my local network can go fuck themselves, pardon my French.
England needs a giant brolly to keep the sun off.
Meh. I don’t care what happens in most Muslim countries. Dirty goat fuckers.
I note an MLB lacking. Your Chicago Cubs were up 7-4 over the reigning-Champion Dodgers, but then were down 10-7. We came back with a two-out solo shot in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game and send it to extras.
After a 1-2-3 top of the 10th, the Cubs needed *one* pitch to walk off the game, Happ singling in the ghost runner.
Shota Imanaga defeated Shotei Ohani. We’re much better than people think. Our offense alone is *jacked,* and in a lovely Ev-way. Difficult outs, top-to-bottom. Scrappers gonna scrap, and their combined efforts simply exhaust ya.
What the fuck are you babbling about?
The important thing is that the Dodgers lost.
That’s a strange way to spell Yankees.
/spits
I will take the Yankees over the Giants any day of the week.
The ghost runner extra inning rule is dumber than the DH. And it is hard to believe they could implement a worse rule than the DH, but here we are.
You and I, two horses in harness (on this).
You play until you win, and exhausting your bench is part of the price of ‘winning.’ Sacrifice for today or gut it out to (maybe?)
And over a 162-game season, it fucking matters. Conviction.
From these comments – I don’t know baseball at all – it sounds like an effort to make the game “easier” on players.
I do watch soccer and tennis and in both cases there have been measures added to make the game “easier” on players. Both happened right around the time of the ‘vid. Both piss me off. You’re getting paid way more than your historical peers could ever dream of – suck it up, buttercups.
The changes have all been aimed at speeding up the games, AFAIK.
Sox/Yankees were regularly 4+ hours even without extra innings.
The changes have helped in that regard.
“One of the missing pieces in this debate was physical data from the real world. Models can only tell us so much. Everything we do is going to be safe by design. We’re absolutely committed to responsible research, including responsible outdoor research.”
Wait, what?
They’re going to go under an umbrella, and show that it’s cooler in the shade, therefore, it’s safe to block the sun.
Zoolander will save us.
They tried bio weapons, turns out that didnt work as well as they thought it would. Starvation next?
In order to do that they’d need to cut down on fertilizer supplies and either buy up or just outlaw a bunch of farm land.
Can’t imagine something like that happening, can you?
I can see from here Fauci rubbing his hands together at the thought of getting in on this action.
Yes. Klaus specifically mentioned that in a book.
“The bottom line is: it’s not going to be good for the economy, given the current economic situation that’s already precarious,” said Scott Imberman, a professor of education policy at Michigan State University. “It’s an additional weight that you’re putting on until we tip into a potential recession.”
When I want to know about the macroeconomic effects of government action, the first expert I turn to is a professor of “education policy.”
It’s not that hard to dig up an “expert” who will validate any claim, especially if that claim is meant to make Trump look bad.
The Oscars mandate voters watch all nominated movies, set new rules for AI and refugee filmmakers
Will it change who they vote for?
Will they have to pass a written and oral exam showing understanding of the movies before voting, or just check a box saying they watched it?
Being Hollywood — I’m sure oral exams are planned.
(… or anal exams, of course…. probably not a requirement to shout “I’m Rick James, BITCH!” though….)
Forcing those people to repay their loans will cause billions of dollars to disappear from the economy!
I read that yesterday.
I would spend more money if the government gave me some.
Mayor-Elect Barbara Lee approves this message!
@Sensei, I went to that link you posted. Very interesting. https://831stories.com/collections/shop I’m going to have to look into them a little more.
Thought of you when I read this yesterday, Mojeaux. Talk about turgid….. prose.
You bet!
They’re all out of their minds on coke?
Its a hell of a drug
This climate engineering stuff reminds me of a story I was told a while back. Bridger Bowl was having a dry winter, and decided cloud seeding was the answer. Was there some sort of permit process? I have no idea. Anyway, they did their magic trick, and it snowed. Unfortunately, the snow landed in the Crazy Mountains, to the east. They abandoned cloud seeding after that.
Obligatory.
Joe Biden looks confused, asking “I did what?”
C’mon, man!
I was going to link to a few Bee stories, but there are too many good ones today. So I’ll just leave this here.

“White House Tells Americans To Reply ‘STOP’ If They No Longer Wish To Receive Hegseth’s Texts About Upcoming Military Strikes”
I tried this gambit for about twenty years.
My success rate was right up there with Wile E. Coyote’s.
Welcome to Florida, where we have bears, panthers, sharks, venomous snakes, giant pythons, falling iguanas, Florida Man, and the insects that will eat your house.
Enjoy our beaches (and remember to do the stingray shuffle).
Pshaw. Florida Man is mainly a danger to himself. Maryland Man is a danger to anyone not in his gang.
Low key I think everyone today that says they eat ass are the same people 20 years ago shouting “I’m Rick James, BITCH”.
Seems apropos.
Hans Vestberg, Verizon’s chairman and CEO, said on the company’s earnings call that the drop was partially driven by “pressure from federal government accounts.”
Vestberg said on the call he “saw some impact of the new government and their efficiency work.” He didn’t specify which cuts in particular weighed on subscriber numbers.
Cry me a river.
It’s a good thing I never moved to Seattle
The Washington State House of Representatives approved three tax bills after midnight on Tuesday morning as part of a revenue-generating package to deal with a projected $16 billion operating budget shortfall over the next four years.
Engrossed House Substitute Bill 2049 would have allowed an increase in the growth factor from the current 1% property tax cap to as much as 3%. However, Rep. Steve Bergquist, D-Renton, the bill’s sponsor, added an amendment removing the bill’s sections on the growth limit.
>a href=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeobkfikLHQ&t=395s “>Sargon posted a video on this. I think what made me laught the hardest was him talking about how the LaboUr gov. was encouraging the use of solar panels while wanting to block out the sun.
Then he covered the number of hours of sunlight England gets per year… Yeah, LaboUr looks silly.

MA House working on bigger budget. In other news, water is wet.
Democrats in the Massachusetts State House will push for a significant increase in state spending after months of voicing discomfort about federal funding uncertainty and economic upheaval.
The House Ways and Means Committee on Wednesday will roll out a $61.4 billion annual budget for fiscal year 2026, a plan whose combined traditional and wealth surtax spending is about 6.4% higher than the budget Gov. Maura Healey signed last summer.
Barely above inflation. I’m surprised the headline isn’t spending “cuts”.
This paycheck had my longevity pay*, and higher education differential**, the closest thing to a bonus I’m eligable for… and I apparently already spent it.
At least I am back out of debt. (Paid off the credit card balance)
No windfall inspired spending I guess. Now I have to figure out what I went and… it was retro computing. I spent it on old computer parts.
*Which I shouldn’t be getting if not for the fact they changed how it works this contract.
**Which shouldn’t exist, since the Associates Degree Plus credential doesn’t even need to be in your job field. At least this is the last year it’s supposed to happen in the contract.
What’s in the water in the Australian state of Victoria?
During the covid tyranny Melbourne was probably the most tyrannical place in the West. And now they kill koalas from helicopters.
So sad as I always wanted to visit.
Back in the ’90s, the Galapagos Islands dealt with an infestation of feral goats by shooting them from helicopters. It actually worked really well.

As someone who has a park that’s been a deer cull spot in recent years, cull more nuisance animals. I don’t give a damn how cute they are.
Don’t worry, grizzly, koalas aren’t actually bears. You’re safe.
They also have the clap.
Kind of on the student loan repayment. It’s not quite that straightforward. Those in the government or working for a non-profit still have their repayments frozen with no interest accruing. And those in the private sector with repayment now active can defer payment for 3 years if unemployed or pay a fraction if employed with low income.
On the other hand, the department running this makes the worst run DMV seem like a model of efficiency. I’m guessing a lot of people who had their repayments previously frozen weren’t notified that it was becoming reactivated. That probably has a lot to do with any initial spike in default rates and will be lowered as people reactivate their payments.
Family member did the student loan/default from years ago. My impression is they were happy to have any sort of payment from defaulters and would make ridiculously low repayment plans for defaulters just to get them regular.
I once dropped a class after the refund date and owed the GI Bill repayment for it. Being a dipshit kid, I sent a check for $10 back. A few weeks later, I got a follow up letter saying my request for $10/month repayment plan was approved and please use the return envelope for this months payment coupon. Every month got a statement and payment coupon until it was paid off.
Eating lunch in downtown Portland. And nothing else happened.
Went in for my bilateral psoas injections today. Indeed, I got the Hospital-Grade fentanyl treatment. They told me it was going in and I don’t remember a fucking second of the procedure. They could have *not* done anything and I wouldn’t know.
It was only 10-15 min and seamless. I still have the fairly pleasant after-effects, but the oddity of knowing when your brain turns off the Memory Switch remains fascinating.
People voluntarily flip that switch many times, most often for religion or politics (same-same), I reckon.
Tomorrow is my full-day neuro-psych evaluation for Vocational Rehab in Hamilton County, IN, and on Tuesday I i have a new EEG test. My MRI is scheduled in July. An odd existence, do I have, but I really wouldn’t want it any other way.
Of all things that describe me and my life, ‘boring’ ain’t one of them.
^^ Written while still feeling the effects.
So would you say you have a nice psoas?

Forty years ago today: the biggest corporate screwup ever… until Alissa Heinerscheid and company.
Long term it’s possible that it revived interest in the brand. But that was a happy accident. Short and medium term disaster.
I remember preferring New Coke. But I was never a big cola fan so I can’t imagine getting worked up over it like some folks.
My mom had opinions. Very loud and very unhappy opinions.
I don’t think I have drunk a cola in a couple decades.
If Dew or any brand of root beer is present, or even lemon-lime, I will pick one of those first.
I’ll order a diet something (Dr. Pepper by preference) when I am eating fast food (only while traveling). Other than that, my fizzy drinks have been either beer, or spiked with something.
Ginger Ale is my preferred. Colas are terribly addictive and fattening.
Oh yeah, I like ginger ales too.
what made me laught the hardest was him talking about how the LaboUr gov. was encouraging the use of solar panels while wanting to block out the sun.
When I was there, I suggested to our tour guide they drop a couple of breeding pairs of tigers on the island with all the goats. He didn’t seem to think it was a workable plan.
Derp
Speaking of fizzy drinks, my new obsession is strawberry watermelon Sparkling Ice.
I thought watermelon was tasty, but this is ridiculous.
I don’t like watermelon, and I put pineapple on pizza.
There. I said it.
Needs vodka
Strenuously Concurs.
Or even rum.
I haven’t seen that flavor but that brand is about the only sugar-free sodapop I can tolerate.
That Ma-Ti company mentioned earlier has the same name as one of the Planeteers. Coincidence? Maybe.
I wonder what his tribe was. Tucano maybe? They’re an interesting bunch:
***
The Tucano are multilingual because men must marry outside their language group: no man may have a wife who speaks his language, which would be viewed as a kind of incest. Men choose women from various neighboring tribes who speak other languages. Furthermore, on marriage, women move into the men’s households or longhouses. Consequently, in any village several languages are used: the language of the men; the various languages spoken by women who originate from different neighboring tribes; and a widespread regional ‘trade’ language. Children are born into the multilingual environment: the child’s father speaks one language (considered the Tucano language), the child’s mother another, other women with whom the child has daily contact, and perhaps still others. However, everyone in the community is interested in language-learning so most people can speak most of the languages.
