There are time where you see something unfold for a long enough period of time you have no choice but to rethink your position on a controversial topic.
This is my review of Crooked Tongue Brewing White Out Stout:

I remember the first time I saw it: The M18 sitting under the glass counter at my local merchant of death. It came in one color, baby shit brown, had a really light trigger but ultimately felt to me like an overbuilt toy.
”Its what the military uses now.” The clerk informed me.
I of course did not buy it, I was there for a few boxes of ammunition and had a few minutes to spare to see the local stock. He also had an FAL and a gaudy MAGA AR-variant in a metallic red. This didn’t have me waxing poetic for the old M-9, but I brushed it off as something I wouldn’t buy given the choice. Not my thing.

Then the stories started coming out where a cop or a competition shooter using the P320 either shot himself or had a negligent discharge. These things happen, but normally are blamed on user error. Cops are well known to be highly trained professionals in their arms, and this just doesn’t happen to an experienced professional. Right?
*crickets*
Too bad the stories started getting added to the pile. I continued to hedge my bets on this assuming the DOD tested the living hell out of this and wouldn’t give a gun that just goes off on its own to a 19 year old recruit. Then this occurred.
The U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command has paused the use of a handgun following the death of a Security Forces airman at a base in Wyoming.
The use of the M18 pistol, a variant of another gun that has been the target of lawsuits over unintentional discharge allegations, was paused Monday “until further notice” following the “tragic incident” Sunday at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, the command said in a statement. Security Forces airmen at all command bases “will conduct 100% inspections of the M18 handguns to identify any immediate safety concerns,” it said.
The airman killed was Brayden Lovan, 21, of the 90th Security Forces Squadron, 90th Missile Wing at the base, where he began his first active-duty assignment in November 2023, base officials said Thursday.
I know what you’re thinking: “hurr durr chair force.” For those that couldn’t score above 69 on the ASVAB, FE Warren is a missile base and has a legion of Security Forces (or cops in AF parlance). These guys are functionally equivalent to Army MPs. Yes, they actually do train consistently multiple times a year, actually do carry weapons on duty with live ammunition, and typically have a rigorous deployment schedule. Why would they do that, its the Air Force? I dunno, maybe something to do with the nukes under their feet. This is not some wrench turner or a geek that works behind a computer.
So I was wrong. Sig Sauer fucked up. Should DOD have purchased Glocks instead? Nah, I’d probably gone with this because why change something that still seems to work (looking at you, B-52)? Then again, they don’t pay me to make these decisions.
White stout. Again? Why are we going through so many of these all of a sudden? I’ll tell you why, it was a gift (H/T: DB)! This is still fairly unusual, it has many qualities of a stout except for one notable exception: the color. You might be thinking doesn’t the color have to do with the time spent roasting the malts in the brewing process? You would be correct, but this still has the nice toasted coffee bean and earthly quality that would otherwise be found in the black variety. Another quality is it is much lighter, so if you feel the need to chug you probably can. Either way, try it with a Reuben. Crooked Tongue Brewing White Out Stout: 3.3/5 6% ABV

Stout should be dark, and handguns should be revolvers.
The white stout style came into being due to the hop shortage a while back. Breweries were looking for anything else they could do to get bitterness into their beers without hops. They’ve stuck around as a novelty style, same as Black IPA (AKA Cascadian Dark Ales) came out of a need, and stuck around as a trend.
All revolvers are handguns, but not all handguns are revolvers.
The color is not really necessary.
This is a very good beer from one of my favorite local microbreweries. They make some really top notch beers. And their menu is excellent. Small, but continuously rotating.

You change to get better grifting and money laundering opportunities.

Roasting is part of it, but steeping the grains also matters.
The beer sounds good.

Of course, its more than just a gun. You sell the add ons, like belts, holsters, armorer training, etc.
“You would be correct, but this still has the nice toasted coffee bean and earthly quality that would otherwise be found in the black variety. Another quality is it is much lighter”
That doesn’t sound bad. Just don’t call it a stout.
Why not? Styles are descriptive, not prescriptive.
[German purity law has entered the chat]
ji:
One of the original instances of regulatory capture. Part of the Reinheitsgebot was about who could make wheat beers, and Goses (from Leipzig) were explicitly exempt from the purity laws.
The write up seems more positive than the score of 3.3.
Nah, I’d probably gone with this
What’s up with that color?
So when you throw it in the mud in disgust you cant find it?
The story linked a couple of days ago included a Sig promo animation showing how it’s impossible for the pistol to randomly discharge of its own accord. I would be fascinated to get a better look at the mechanism, especially the part keeping the firing pin (under constant spring pressure) from escaping.
why change something that still seems to work
1911 it is, then.
My guess is they went away from the M9 because “people with small hands” find them hard to shoot. I have no idea how big the Sig is.
Swappable grip modules.
The M9-A4 comes with the Vertec style grip which is much thinner than the original.
From the old thread:
Jay “unretired” from the tonight show and pissed off a younger generation of comics. He rightfully gets shit for that to this day.
It’s proof he is human and imperfect. But compared to just about all other celebrities he is humble, and a fine human being. He is nice to his fans and car people and genuinely supports the car hobby. He has stayed married and is currently taking care of his wife who has dementia.
He did a guest appearance as “himself” on the show Titus, and played up that he was a pompous, egotistical, asshole. From what I’ve heard, he loved being able to play a bad guy, and was great to work with.
Oh. Yeah, I wasn’t watching any of that stuff by then so that completely passed me by.
I watched a lot of Letterman but TBH I don’t think I ever saw a complete episode of Leno. He just didn’t do anything for me.
I forgot about his wife having dementia. That is a rough road.
Good afternoon everyone! Stayed home today to do some long-neglected chores. I need to replace the cabin’s three carpets with the new carpets I bought in February and mix up a batch of 0.5% permethrin solution in my pump sprayer and do a Final Solution on a carpenter ant colony.
If those of you from Minnesota and Louisiana are wondering where all of this Summer’s flyie-bities went wonder no longer:

Today I’m reminded of this song:
All the leaves are brown (All the leaves are brown)
And the sky is gray (And the sky is gray)
The leaves aren’t brown but the sky is gray because of another damn Canadian wildfire:
https://www.masslive.com/weather/2025/07/canadian-wildfire-smoke-blankets-new-england-saturday-raising-health-concerns.html
You can smell the smoke.
Why does Gaia hate Canada?
Mind you having millions makes taking care of your loved one a much easier proposition, but doesn’t make the loss of acuity any easier to deal with.
Plenty of other celebrities would be sticking her in a memory care unit and finding a girlfriend.
Sorry, meant that for your post above on Leno.
I never liked the M9 grip. Felt like grabbing a brick compared to a 1911. But was and is always easy to shoot. Almost bought a Cheetah at Cabelas last week.
I didn’t dislike the M9, but I’d certainly play with the grips had I bought a 92.
Funny enough I found my accuracy sucked with a friend’s 92, but on the same day same range same friend’s Sig 226 was driving tacks.
Ergonomics a very dependent on the shooter.
Much preferred the look of the 92 however, but I know which I would buy.
Interestingly I did NOT like the 226, but the 229 suited me just fine. I imagine they beefed up the frame a bit to get it safe to shoot .40. Ergos are a thing.
Lemme just throw this out again:
If you’re thinking about a new handgun, give the HK VP9 a look. Feels solid in the hand, accurate, reliable (in my experience). Haven’t shot my Sig or Para since I got one, just always go for the HK.
My daughter liked the VP9sk, much more so than the Walther PDP-F. I had to keep apologizing to the clerk because she kept pointing the damn thing at him trying to work the slide.

That’s some good eats, there.

Trump’s baby penis and gay relationship with Satan seems to have grabbed the most headlines, but the true insult to South Park’s MAGA fans came in Cartman’s arc. Cartman, realizing that his entire personality was based on triggering liberals and mocking wokeness, finds that his knee-jerk contrarianism is no longer interesting. Without purpose, he decides to kill himself and Butters. (He does this by trying to asphyxiate them both using Butters’ parents’ car, which turns out to be electric and thus an ineffective suicide tool.)
If operating under the shallow assumption that “South Park” is a show that exists to mock woke culture, Cartman’s despair could be seen as a meta-commentary on the program itself, which in the past has frequently satirized liberals by poking fun at activism in favor of trans women in sports, inclusive Hollywood casting, the #MeToo movement and performative antiracism. But with Cartman’s existential crisis happening as the show fires on all cylinders at a new target, it’s clear that it’s the MAGA-fied edgelords in the audience who should, like Cartman, feel useless.
Wow. Artistic genius.
They’re missing a point of the Cartman arc. Over the past couple of seasons, he went actually woke for a while (after claiming to be trans to get his own bathroom). He was the most upset about PC Principals change to Power Christian Principal (aka PC Principal) who is bringing Jesus back into the school.
Yes. I thought the Cartman Arc on point.
And the Trump portion while overblown does correctly highlight his practice of lawfare from the presidency.
The bigger thing would be the Biden mental acuity silence from SP in prior seasons. That to me is more telling.
Yeah, Biden was a fat, slow pitch over the plate for comedy. If you didn’t crush it out of the park, you suck as a comedian.*
*barring those who steer clear of politics, of course
The end of that episode, where they basically threw any girls who might not want to use the bathroom with dudes under the bus, seemed like a turning point to me.
The Biden silence might have more to due with how vicious the D’s are, and how much influence they had on the network.
But, I have never seen the show, so what do I know.
Stunning and brave.
“New target” LOL. They mocked Trump throughout his first term, and it wasn’t funny then either. Their complete silence on politics for four years was a welcome (almost) return to form.
“South Park” is once again making clear that the show’s humor was never about agreeing with its creators (or anyone) ideologically; it was about exposing phoniness, satirizing moral rigidity, poking fun at bullies and mocking unquestioned power.
Huh. I thought it was about tedious puerile fart jokes.
“exposing phoniness, satirizing moral rigidity, poking fun at bullies and mocking unquestioned power”
As demonstrated by their relentless fun with Biden-Harris?
Okay off to buy my son new cleats. A child athlete is a terrible investment, except for indoctrinating him into the carnivore diet.
When do you go gun shopping for him?
Hmm. Next year when he turns 12, since I set the precedent with my oldest.
What exactly do you do around here?
“The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” employed around 200 people and recorded annual losses of around $40 million, according to a person familiar with the matter, who declined to be named speaking about nonpublic matters. “Jimmy Kimmel Live” employs around 250 people and loses roughly the same amount, according to a person familiar with that show’s finances.
I can’t believe they’re losing money.
Some things are more important than profits. Saving democracy, for example.
It’s really creepy how eagerly the Actor’s (and writers, producers, grips and blah blah) Union ensured material is always anti-Trump, along with how they ignore Biden.
It’s like Prada, but self-replicating on its own, and they’re proud to do it! (Hubris is their sin. So damn proud to take Top Advice from Top Men chosen for them. It’s rather frightening, frankly. But they’re also predictably retarded, and they talk all gay, and it’s relieving to see Power and Influence slip from their wrenched fists.)
I doubt there was any command from on high to do only anti-Trump material. More likely that those fields just self-select for leftists.
Yes, the self-selected group, who had social bouncers within their soul watching t̵h̵e̵ ̵d̵o̵o̵r̵ material to ensure no Wrong Think got in.
The frog started to boil after the Left won their last true victory, of gay marriage. The social(ist) contagion was strong people went out of their way to make sure they didn’t upset any of Special Group on the upswing. People were afraid to ‘upset’ the wrong people, to say the wrong thing.
Older Bro revealed some insanity last week: He watched a vid with a quadriplegic, who (apparently) could still move an arm and a bit of their face. Colin then said to the family that he was *upset* that he jumped to the ‘wrong’ conclusion, where he previously thought all quadriplegics kinda sorta can’t move at all below their neck.
He scolded himself when saying this to us and said he was “wrong” to have misjudged that person’s handicap. His wife reassuringly chirped in, saying she had made “the same mistake.” (Maybe didn’t say “mistake,” but the same thought.)
He was upset he thought wrong, and admitted it in public, and being him, successfully turned the story into how he learned something about people being different and yada yada. Yep. Yuh-huh. Hrm. *Deadpan silence, slaps self*
I assumed these shows were profitable until the news broke. Now I’m wondering why there hasn’t been a shareholder lawsuit.
The Late show, other shows like it and even whole networks were bankrolled by our damn tax dollars. We are all starting to see the fallout from the closure of USAID and things like it. The whole entertainment world had become PBS. Now they must produce content people want or go out of business.
In the meantime, I am celebrating these wretched thieving bastards going out of business.
I absolutely agree Colbert was $lush fund. What sources do we have to connect USAID to specific networks /players?
Could be I haven’t read or paid attention, but it seems like a lower-scale (but bigger rewards) version of the Epstein Files.
We know some form of documentation is there and is revealing, damning, but I’d like something concrete to rebut with
(Repeated over all history.)
Unreal.
Propaganda doesn’t come cheap, I guess.
WTF do those 250 people do, anyway?
I could see maybe 50 people, tops, to put on a talk show. And that’s giving credits for stuff that I don’t know needs to be done, etc.
I find it baffling.
The only way it makes sense is if somebody other than the networks are paying for it.
Kimmel is next? Good riddance.
Speaking of wretched bastards, look what the French are doing:

Oh, to TPTB: I submitted a piece for review. I also edited a bit and hit that button again, or maybe, manymany times. (3?) Just wanna see if it updated. A noon-slot is perfect, as I’d be fresh off work and in chill-zone.
I assumed these shows were profitable until the news broke. Now I’m wondering why there hasn’t been a shareholder lawsuit.
I never really gave it any conscious thought, but yes, “one assumes” they pay their own way. I wouldn’t be surprised if the current state of play is some combination of inertia from the good old days and guild featherbedding, but some body somewhere must be keeping track of the numbers.

Sadly there is real remedy for the consumer. You get free credit monitoring and after the inevitable lawsuits a $10 coupon for Sizzler and the lead plaintiff attorney will take in $100m. In the old days the CFPB will also get a similar amount to buy liberal votes. No idea in OMB’s world what happens there.
“crickets”
Acorns.
We checked out the p320 when we were looking for handguns. We both disliked the ergonomics. Dodged that bullet.
Your pun. It was seen.
I did my live fire quals on a P320, hated the ergonomics.
