Since I am aware few of you will click the links, I will post this link here. I will also post this picture below because I am also certain slightly more than a few of you will click that link.

I have considered committing an atrocity. Why? Because I live in the current year the future, why shouldn’t I be able to do cyberpunk dystopia things that make Fudd boomers cringe at the range? Its bad enough I got the 2.5” barrel… Anyways this is more of an after Xmas project since I can justify it on the grounds I didn’t get what I really wanted for Xmas. Talk me out of it, into it, or ignore at your leisure.

Why not? The apocalyptic meltdown predicted by every classical economist hasn’t occurred here…yet.

A train collides with a bus. You come up with the punchline.

Its like that movie Quinciñera, where the girls dad gets a management position at work but then immediately goes into hiding because he’s actually from Mexico.

More news from alternate universe America.

Milei’s party suffers a “crushing” defeat at the polls—actually it was their stock market that was crushed with the news, not Millei.

Continental realignment might be getting a bit over our skis.

When I said I liked Pete, I knew eventually I will regret it. I might get there eventually.

A tune worthy of your Tuesday. Lets hit it!

Consumer confidence is falling, unemployment is rising, and interest rates are soaring to record highs as the government repeatedly intervenes in the currency market to prop up the peso and hold down inflation in hopes of placating cash-strapped voters.

Huh. That doesn’t sound very libertarian.

  2. robc

I was playing around with some numbers earlier today, there is some context as to why, but its not important.

So, anyway, I was trying to break US household income in 1955 into quintiles. The data I found wasn’t perfectly aligned with what I was trying to do, so had to do some interpolating. I then converted to 2025 dollars and calculated percentage of 2025 households into each category. Results in table below. Nothing surprising, but still interesting.

    5th Quintile <$2,200 20% $6,900 20% >$83,100 49%

  3. robc

Okay, that didn’t work at all…trying again:

    5th Quintile $0–$2,200 20% $0-$26,300 15%
    4th Quintile $2,200-$3,700 20% $26,300-$45,000 12%
    3rd Quintile $3,700-$5,100 20% $45,000-$61,200 12%
    2nd Quintile $5,100-$6,900 20% $61,200-$83,100 12%
    1st Quintile +$6,900 20% +$83,100 49%

    • UnCivilServant

Which inflation metric did you go by?

      • robc

Whichever one google used when I asked to convert 1955 dollar to 2025 dollar.

It makes a difference, but the general idea is close enough.

I considered doing it by value of silver.

  4. Mad Scientist

Your atrocity is on back order, so there must at least some who think it isn’t atrocious. It’s too late to be a trendsetter. But you can be a follower. A brave follower who follows with bravery! Do it! Do it!

The train company Canadian Pacific Kansas City of Mexico in a statement called on drivers “to respect the signage and to comply with the full stop order at railroad crossings, to avoid accidents like the one this morning in Atlacomulco.”

You would think that this doesn’t need to be said, but… Mexico.

  9. SDF-7

Why not? The apocalyptic meltdown predicted by every classical economist hasn’t occurred here…yet.

Other than probably the Laffer Curve… I can’t come up with a modern economic theory that’s been right in my lifetime.

At least we’re currently spared the 2000 era “New economy! No recessions ever again! Infinite Growth!” (or whatever it was exactly… I just remember it being really, really stupid to justify the Dot Com Boom).

    • Suthenboy

Hmmm. In the last thread I said the limit on government is how much bullying and theft people will tolerate. I should have said the principle behind the Laffer curve applies to both taxation and government in general.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Supply and Demand is still pretty accurate.

      • SDF-7

        I don’t think that’s “modern”, is it? (I’m thinking econ since the 50s or 60s probably here…)

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

I’m not so sure that the tariffs aren’t going to come around and bite us. They haven’t, “yet”, but the vast majority of tariffs didn’t come into effect until the beginning of August. I’m certainly not going to call a mission accomplished 1 month into tariffs on everyone all the time.

I still think it’s a bad idea. I was affected by the new trade policy twice in one day today, after not having been personally affected hitherto. One item I couldn’t get because the vast majority of Europe is not currently shipping to the US with the sudden drop of de minimus, and the other I was tariffed $61 for a $285 item made by a sole proprietor in Norway.

I think we’ll all see more of this.

Gas production, the country’s main revenue source, plummeted from 60 million cubic meters per day in 2014–2015 to just 28 million in 2025. Mismanagement and lack of maintenance slashed exports and so, foreign trade.

    1 – Nationalize an industry
2 – Put cronies in charge of production
    3 – Defer maintenance
    4 – ???

Kind of light on just what federal charge they think they can bring here. Hopefully not some cockamamie “hate crime” crap that continues the bad precedent…

Do I want the asshole charged, convicted and imprisoned (prison or max security asylum… no.. not Arkham, dammit!)? Yes. Are the state laws sufficient? Yes. Should the Feds step in every time they think the state is mucking it up because they’re idiots or have a different opinion when it isn’t an actual Federal crime? Hell no.

We get enough of this with the “States don’t charge people enough to placate the BLM mob, so Fed racial charges ensue” during the JackAss party tenure… no need to extend the stupidity.

Last week, Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar welcomed the increased US deployment in the region and praised the strike against the vessel allegedly carrying drugs. “The pain and suffering the cartels have inflicted on our nation is immense. I have no sympathy for traffickers; the US military should kill them all violently,” Persad-Bissessar said.

Local news just dropped a story about the terrible injustice that is happening here in Ohio. Convicting rapists, pedophiles, and murders to life without parole.

Cleveland child rapist’s case highlights little-known Ohio prison trend

The punishment has drawn criticism from reform advocates, who argue it strips away any chance of rehabilitation. The Sentencing Project, a Washington, D.C.-based group that pushes for fair sentencing, reported earlier this year that 56,245 people nationwide are serving life without parole — more than ever before.

Read the fucking room. I for one have no issue with rapists, pedophiles, and murders being in jail for life without parole.

      • (((Jarflax

Rehabilitation isn’t the point. Punishment with safeguards to reduce the chance of injustices, by the State in order to avoid private feuds, deterrence, and above all removal and isolation of revealed threats to public safety are the points. Rehabilitation is a religious fantasy the progressives tacked onto the system and then encouraged to swallow the system up.

      • Suthenboy

They want to disarm the public, teach helplessness and unleash as many criminals as possible on the populace. It is that simple.

“And we’re launching the egg sandwiches,” Mr. Dacus said. They are, he noted, the top item purchased by the millions of American visitors descending on Japan each year and visiting 7-Eleven stores.

The sandwiches are made with the fluffy Japanese “milk bread,” and a team in Texas worked with Japanese suppliers to learn how to produce it in the United States. Milk bread and Japanese mayonnaise give the egg sandwiches “the heavenly pillow thing,” Mr. Dacus said.

      • Brochettaward

I should note that Buckey’s and Wawa pull it off. 7/11 in America, though? They’d need to completely change the quality of people they hire or at least the standards they hold their gas stations to.

I hate EZ-Pass. They are billing me Now for tolls incurred in June. I thought someone was scamming me somehow. Nope, just a long lag on processing transactions. It’s computerized and I have an RFID “bill me” tag for the system to read. At worst I should be billed by that evening.

    • (((Jarflax

New York is really bad about that, and it is very hard to figure out whether you are being double billed or just getting different legs of the same trip billed 90 days apart.

      • DEG

I’m still wondering if I will ever get a bill from Texas through their pay by plate system when I drove through the DFW area on my FreedomFest 2025 road trip.

Contrast with Oklahoma. When I got home, I went to their toll authority’s website. I was able to pay my toll bill.

      • UnCivilServant

Probably sent the bill to some Texan with the same plate number.

      • DrOtto

My daughter got a bill for $550 worth of tolls 3 years after using the tolls system in the Austin area, so be patient, they’ll get to you eventually or as UCS says, they probably already billed it to someone else.

I think most vaccines have been overall positive for the human race, but the people who are pro-vaccine are stupidly dishonest and refuse to even acknowledge any drawbacks most of the time.
