Monday Afternoon New Year’s Eve Links

by | Sep 22, 2025 | Daily Links | 119 comments

Yes, I’m feeling a bit horny.

New Year’s tonight, which will feature Ravens-Lions, and I expect the Ravens will fare better than the Christians.

Birthdays today include the prime example of the difference between brilliant and educated; an actor whose versatility still stands alone; the professor I’d LIKE to be; a talented cartoonist from the days when his magazine was funny; Obama’s mentor and not coincidentally a leading figure in black antisemitism; a woman at the center of the 2024 presidential election; and a woman who is a hot, sexy, talented danger.

And hot, sexy Links to follow.

So no more refugees and they favor dissolving UNRWA? Incroyable!

Well, that didn’t last long.

The White Sox are still never gonna win a Series.

Fuck that guy and any of the Irsays.

RJ has run this movie before.

KK alert!!!

I have a solution for this.

This is a combination that the Old Guy didn’t know existed. Such great talents but in such different genres. How does it work? It… does.

Yes, I’m feeling a bit horny.

Hopefully Prime will understand when you ram into her.

    • The Other Kevin

Maybe when he flashes a sheepish grin.

      • SDF-7

Or when she feels like having it wild and wooly.

      • The Other Kevin

Wow, the shear audacity of these comments.

      • bacon-magic

        You’re all baaaaaaaaad.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

        Approaching ram-ing speed?

OMWC is here to pump… … … her up.

    • Spudalicious

Ewe all need to simmer down.

  2. SDF-7

    Well, that didn’t last long.

Hmm… nothing in there about the affiliates that said they weren’t going to air his show… it may just be “eke out your contract because we couldn’t find a good way to fire you”.

Not that I honestly care… so why am I devoting a single neuron to this twit? Ah… the power of snark — sometimes it turns you into a boojum.

    • Rat on a train

So are all the goodthinkers signing back up for Disney+?

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

This tells me that whatever the FCC head did, it had no consequences. If it did, they would not be approaching things like this. My guess is they are going to try and squeak out some more revenue on controversy.

    • The Last American Hero

Unpossible. I was told by very reliable sources that Kimmel had been “disappeared” in the manner of the Soviet Union and his corpse was being used as food for the alligators at Alligator Alcatraz.

  3. The Other Kevin

Great, now we get to hear about that smug asshole Kimmel for another couple of months. I’m sure he’ll get a slight boost in viewers, and they’ll use that to prove what a great comedian he is.

Meanwhile, expect Trump to take the bait and do something stupid. Sigh.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

      No he won’t.

He will get a bump for perhaps a day. Then people will either remember why they didn’t watch it before, or remember that network TV is a joke itself.

      • The Other Kevin

We can hope. I do expect him to turn up the asshole factor and the “news” to breathlessly report his every word.

      • creech

Kirk worshippers will quickly come up with a list of advertisers to boycott.

    • Trials and Trippelations

This decision makes sense and matches the Iger and Disney I know.

I haven’t seen any reporting about the Nexstar and Sinclair refusal to air Kimmel and if that is still the case

  4. Mad Scientist

Joey DeFrancesco is an amazing motherfucker.

    • Old Man With Candy

      Was, alas.

Man, you and I are getting old.

  5. SDF-7

So no more refugees and they favor dissolving UNRWA? Incroyable!

Honestly at this point — if folks are dumb enough to recognize a Palestinian state… fine. Recognize it. Then formally declare war on it and destroy it. Sick of this shit, sick of their shit, sick of them raising their children to want to martyr themselves. Honestly I don’t think the Global Left / EUro weenies can have a lower opinion of Israel anyway — so just formally declare war, crush them as a “nation” and eradicate it.

For that matter, conquer the UK because at this point you have a much stronger military and ship them all there. It is what Starmer would want anyway.

(yes, I’m mostly kidding here… but damn if I’m not heartily sick of the support for these terroristic, hostage taking, blood thirsty, want to kill America next if they ever could assholes being coddled or feted.)

    • Nephilium

Haven’t at least some of those countries labeled Hamas a terrorist organization as well? Or is that just us?

      • SDF-7

I’ve honestly lost track. As they kowtow more and more to their imported masters, I figure they’ve probably flip-flopped on that already.

      • Nephilium

        SDF-7:

Yeah, I’m not sure either. I don’t care enough to search, but would not be surprised to find a country has both recognized Palestine as a state, declared Hamas as a terrorist organization, and thus has recognized a terrorist state.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

If they are recognized state, do their fighters need to wear uniforms or be guilty of war crimes?

      • (((Jarflax

Raping hostages in munitions bunkers under hospitals is a war crime regardless of attire.

      • EvilSheldon

And Hamas and Hezb’allah both have uniformed forces and a formal command structure.

  6. SDF-7

    KK alert!!!

If it really starts being a noticable trend — I expect state mandated insurance rate increases designed to “encourage” people back into the traditional housing markets. Can’t upset the apple carts, after all.

  7. SDF-7

I have a solution for this.

Leaps to mind… — but I’m probably reverting to my “Law and Order Conservative” gut on that… Can’t find myself too upset — cause given the sheer number of illegals active in California politics, I can’t blame ICE for fishing where the big mouth bass are roiling.

  8. Ted S.

    the professor I’d LIKE to be;

    Happy birthday Russell Johnson!

    an actor whose versatility still stands alone;

    Happy birthday Edward G. Robinson!

Ah, the subtle love verses of yesteryear. How I have forgotten their dulcet tones.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

With subtle lyrics like, “You can lick my ass up and down. Lick it til your tongue turns doo doo brown”, they belong in the love song HOF.

    • Gdragon

People don’t give 2 Live Crew enough credit, I mean Fresh Kid Ice paved the way for every Chinese rapper that followed. It’s just too bad that I don’t know of any others to name.

  11. The Late P Brooks

Sounds like that was quite the tent show revival meeting they had yesterday.

    • The Other Kevin

I watched a few minutes here and there. There were some nice speeches, and of course Trump was ham fisted as usual.

    • Nephilium

The girlfriend went to a vigil last night after the game, and she’s been watching the funeral (or at least part of it) today. She was surprised that the vigil was so religious, I pointed out that Kirk was a vocal Christian.

  12. Muzzled Woodchipper

Kimmel is the poster boy for why networks should discourage, at all costs, their “talent” going off the rails. Disney cannot make anyone happy in this situation. It’s a lose-lose deal. Take him off, they lose subscribers from a misplaced anger boycott. Leave him on, and they lose subscribers for having a partisan shitbag on the air every night.

I suppose this is the bed they made for themselves, so let them roll around in the giant turd they dropped under the sheets.

    • The Other Kevin

Can we go back to entertaining people, and stop injecting politics into EVERYTHING?

      • SDF-7

(insert septum ring, toss on blue hair wig)

NO! Everything is political — and only a fascist supporter of the capitalist patriarchy that every day represses, supresses and compresses the dreams of Black and Brown citizens of the world would think otherwise!

(removes the crap and regains 50 Sanity Points immediately…)

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

This is the natural result of the dastardly liberal idea from the 60s: the personal is the political.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

        Politics is infrastructure.

      • Akira

NO! Everything is political — and only a fascist supporter of the capitalist patriarchy that every day represses, supresses and compresses the dreams of Black and Brown citizens of the world would think otherwise!

(5 seconds later) “Why are we so DIVIDED as a country?? It must have been Trump.”

    • SDF-7

Wait… when did Amber Heard start working for the Mouse House?

      • The Other Kevin

He only had a contract for a few more months as it was so maybe he is going in to fill that time slot until his contract ends. I cannot imagine, as little money as he was bringing in, that they would renew that contract. The only way he stays is if some some shadowy weirdo with a Jimmy fetish pays for him out of Disney coffers, which are increasingly going empty. How much more money can Disney afford to lose?

    • Nephilium

Wait until Disney goes for the Too Big To Fail bailout package…

      • R.J.

oooooOOOOH! You just gave me a splitting headache with that. NO! Fail! Let Disneyland become rental properties first!

Dozens will tune in to see his triumphant return.

TOO LOCAL NEWS: Shooter stays in jail

The alleged shooter, Hunter Nadeau, 23, did not physically go into the Nashua Circuit Court on Monday afternoon, but instead appeared via video feed from the Hillsborough County House of Corrections, where he is being held without bail.

All documents in the case are currently sealed except a barebones complaint charging Nadeau with second-degree murder. If convicted, he could face a sentence of 25 years to life for that count alone.

Nadeau waived his arraignment and agreed to the next court date of Oct. 1 for a probable cause hearing. Assistant Attorney General Peter Hinkley said after Monday’s hearing that the next step will be to present evidence to a grand jury for possible indictments.

“After that probable-cause hearing, the case is going to be adjourned to superior court, and we’ll have 90 days to present indictments against the defendant,” Hinkley said.

The period after the probable cause hearing gives prosecutors time to continue their investigation into Nadeau’s motives. Evidence to support more charges will then likely be brought to the grand jury.

Despite Nadeau’s shouts of “Free Palestine” during the shooting, New Hampshire Attorney General John Formella said Sunday that his office doesn’t currently believe the attack was inspired by a political ideology. Instead, investigators believe Nadeau shouted several different comments during the incident in an effort to cause chaos and confusion.

On the shouting of “Free Palestine”: Eyewitnesses report the shooter shouted that. Eyewitnesses also reported more than one shooter. Surveillance video shows there was only one shooter.

Jones joins a growing list of once-disillusioned New York phenoms who have relocated their football mojo elsewhere. There’s Jones, Saquon Barkley, Sam Darnold, Geno Smith…

There are certain franchises that, from time to time, are where good talent goes to die — or at least survive a Purgatory before going on to success with better-run teams.

Tampa Bay was one of these. Doug Williams, Steve Young, and Trent Dilfer all won Super Bowls after they moved out.

    Cleveland also comes to mind.

    • Nephilium

      Hey now!

We just need an offensive line, some receivers, a QB, some safeties, a running back, some cornerbacks, and some changes in the front office and we’ll be right back in this!

      • (((Jarflax

I suggest getting the O-line first. If you need an explanation look southwest

      • Nephilium

        (((Jarflax:

We had a great O-Line, but that went away when we lost the O-Line coach. Most of the fans were still claiming we had a great one the year after he left, even as they were playing for shite.

On the plus side, most of the drafted rookies are looking better than expected (with the exception of Sanders and Gabriel).

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Repeating what I said in the AM Links, maybe Jones was a good draft pick after all, and the Giants just suck.

It becomes nearly impossible for me to read something g when there are fudged basic facts about a story in the opening salvo.

and spent the past 13 years as the wife

Wrong. They were married 4 years ago, and is something that should be correct. When they can’t take the time to be correct in the very basics of a story, it’s fucking hard to take the rest seriously.

The Colts do some off-season training at Carmel High School, about a 3min drive from here. Biggest high school in Indiana, with 5k+ students. They had a damn-nice football stadium, construction/ rehab is ongoing on another training facility, and another new one is presently underway.

Fuck, these folk are rich. The Irsays have many connections to land here. I hate that fucking high school. Fucking pretentious AWFL kids doing awful things, awfully well.

My high school, both a nascent-germ of Wokedom *and* the first public charter school in Indiana, had 250 kids total. IIRC, I graduated with 45 others, the first graduating class of Signature School in Evansville, Indiana, consistently ranked in the Top 10 schools in the nation. (Currently #2.) I took 5 AP classes my senior year alone, there, and went to IU a class-removed from starting as a sophomore. I wisely didn’t pursue such, and instead had part-time gigs and 12hr semesters.

    • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

That’s a massive school. You’d think such a wealthy city would have smaller schools.

  20. The Late P Brooks

“I’ve adapted to this lifestyle because we have to adapt,” said Dante, who now spends most of his free time outdoors exploring and started an online school program this fall. “If we don’t adapt, we won’t change, and if we don’t change, we’ll be mad, and if we’re mad, that just sucks. You don’t want to be mad.”

This poor child is learning the entirely wrong lessons!

  21. Evan from Evansville

The Cubs are in the post-season, but I think they over-did their celebration. We just got swept by the fucking Reds. I wish we’d focus far more on clinching Home Field for the Wild Card round, rather than resting folk (who do, indeed, need rest).

Now, the WC is a 3-game *series* instead of a one-off. And the home team hosts *all* the games. Uh. I wanna host all three at Wrigley. Cuz, uh. Duh. On so many levels. The vibe of the ballpark, and its fans, being part of the natural landscape and community, is a special asterisk-advantage for the Cubs. (An extra Fuck You.)

Well. Many things will happen. It’s the (typical?) masculine season-long story. When ya invest and ‘know’ the players, the suspense we put ourselves through makes much more sense. (See also: Soap operas. (But with broken bones!))

    • Rat on a train

      They’re not the Rockies …

      • Evan from Evansville

        This is remarkably accurate.

    • Gdragon

Cade Horton has been hammering the shit out of the strike zone for over 2 months and batters haven’t been able to do a thing about it. You’ve gotta feel a little bit confident about that.

  22. Suthenboy

On the nine digit numbers of people who watched the Kirk vigil, I would say he is officially gone from a person to an idea. The religious tones turn me off but I think it is an idea we need right now. The religious right was never as poisonous as the radical left.

    • The Other Kevin

We would all be better off if morality, answering to a higher power, and engaging in discussion instead of violence made a comeback.

    • Gustave Lytton

The socons were right about many issues that conflict with hedonism and narcissism.

    • Suthenboy

I am trying to remember who quoted Orwell – “”The further a society drifts from the truth, the more they will hate those that speak it.”

Agreed. When the hate stops sounding like spittle flecked rants and starts sounding like gunfire you are in trouble. Listening the the various conversations today it doesnt seem like the lefties are getting it. I think the people saying “It wasnt us but it was justified cuz your words are violence” think it will never touch them. This is not a good place to be.

  23. creech

Sure, I agree it’s unlikely one would stop being angry and resentful (i.e. forgive) if one’s husband, friend, leader was murdered. But why does Trump have to be such an asshole about it speaking from the podium at a memorial service? I know any number of people who would stop being angry at Trump if he acted like an adult who could control his mouth.

    • The Other Kevin

I’m not a big fan of his speeches. He rambles and makes political jabs. At a memorial service, after all the other inspiring speeches, it just didn’t go well. Keep it sober, keep it brief and respectful.

    • (((Jarflax

Yeah, that Trump jerk where does he get off being all mean about the good people out there cheering on murder and making lists for their pet lunatics!

      • (((Jarflax

Don’t get me wrong, Erika Kirk’s speech was far more effective than Trump’s but he’s not a candidate for sainthood. He’s the blustering guy saying the quiet part out loud, and we need both.

    • Sean

Should we fetch your fainting couch, madam?

    • Urthona

Never cared for his speaking, but ah well. It’ll fly by. Only 3 more years.

  24. Suthenboy

Back in the day the movie studios had strict contracts with actors with lots of moral and behavior clauses…..for a reason.

56th Street? I used to drive past it all the time. It looked pretty swanky to me.

One nice summer day I got behind an Aston Martin Volante convertible on 56th Street. The top was down, but all I could really see was a massive brown-skinned arm resting on the door. Much to my surprise, he was headed to the Colts complex.

    • Evan from Evansville

No, no, no. This is in Carmel, ~ish where 106th starts up north. (The high school is on 136th.) To repeat, it’s a fucking high school with three pro-rated fields and facilities. (Including weight-rooms, etc.)

Dad was a sports reporter before getting his own feature column. He has the ability to go to Training Camp and just watch, which he does whenever he can. (He doesn’t write in that fashion, these days.)

Big AP Moment for me: I was covering high school band camp performances at Lucas Oil for the state championship. I was out on the field getting snaps, and some security came up to me to tell me to cut it out. I quickly flashed my Press Badge to ’em, and they squeemishly slunk away. It was a fairly glorious moment, in my life, for a few odd reasons. That was a fun day.

Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) defended her vote against a resolution to honor the life and legacy of conservative activist Charlie Kirk and lamented that more Democrats did not join the 58 “no” votes in the House.

In an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Crockett said it “honestly hurts my heart” that all but two members who opposed the resolution, according to her own count, were people of color.

“For the most part, the only people that voted no were people of color because the rhetoric that Charlie Kirk continuously put out there was rhetoric that specifically targeted people of color,” Crockett said in the Sunday interview.

“It is unfortunate that more of my colleagues, even on my side of the aisle, could not see the amount of harm that this man was attempting to inflict upon our communities,” she added.
