Suggestions for a Well-Dressed Orphan VIII

Back by popular demand! Some of us are actually social enough to warrant the need for Halloween costume Ideas. Except nobody takes us Glibs into account so we’re just going to have to do it ourselves…

Up First: A bag of chips

H/T: R.J. I don’t know how this will work so you’re going to have to ask him.

Next up: Drug Dealer

You will need billions of dollars, social and conventional media presence and a newfound mission to kill off PBMs. Have fun trying to avoid the hitman CVS hired to get rid of you.

Followed by Warhammer: Modelo

If you bought hundreds of cases of Modelo over Bud Light being gay, this is a great way to recycle.

Also ran: Antifascist

Because Pepe the Frog is still a fascist, you need another frog to step in and punch Nazis.

Next up: Babe Ruth

You need a half billion contract and a waiver from MLB that allows you to be able to play as a pitcher and/or a DH depending on the day you bump a teammate from the 40 man roster.

Followed by Unelected Bureaucrat

You will need a newfound distaste of the bureaucracy and around $300 Billion worth of fuck you money.

Along with: Mugshawty

You will need an excuse to run from the cops.

Finally…..Zombie Raul Grijalva

You will need a complicit media willing to hide that you’re dying or even dead for several weeks while “your people” coordinate a campaign for your unattractive, communist daughter.

That’s it. This year’s beer is Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Spice Ale. Since its 9%abv they need to load the living daylights out of this with the pumpkin spice. I am implying this isn’t great? Yes. Its very much overdone but left me feeling like I could fall asleep in a graveyard. Which in of itself is not a bad thing. Shipyard Smashed Pumpkin Imperial Pumpkin Spice Ale: 2.7/5 9% ABV

I’ve had this before. Several years ago. Unless they’ve changed the recipe, I think you’re being generous.

I like some pumpkin beers. This is not one of them.

    • Plinker762

Pumpkins are for shooting not for fouling the taste of food/drink

      • Threedoor

It’s the mace and cinnamon that make it good.

        Also.
Those should not be in beer but in eggnog and ice cream.

      • R C Dean

There’s a place for spiced beers. Weren’t people just drooling over Christmas ales?

The window between not enough and way too much is very small, though.

      • Ted S.

There’s no place for beer. :-p

      Pumpkin spice isn’t pumpkin.

      • mexican sharpshooter

Some of them actually do contain pumpkin.

Which does not have as much impact on taste as people think.

      • mexican sharpshooter

Its very neutral, only a source of sugar. A poor one at that. I don’t get the hate for it when what everyone actually hates is the pumpkin spice.

      • (((Jarflax

I don’t hate the spice, and you are right that pumpkin is almost perfectly meh, but the spice goes with apples not the big orange squash.

      I think you’re being generous.

      You might be right.

      • Threedoor

        Quite possible for the weekend.

      • Threedoor

It’s also likely that whomever is runing the page is only picking up a small percentage of the arrests.

      • Plinker762

OpenAI has blocked users from making videos of Martin Luther King Jr. on its Sora app after the estate of the civil rights leader complained about the spread of “disrespectful depictions.”

Since the company launched Sora three weeks ago, hyper-realistic deepfake videos of King saying crude, offensive or racist things have rocketed across social media, including fake videos of King stealing from a grocery store, speeding away from police and perpetuating racial stereotypes.

Late on Thursday, OpenAI and King’s estate released a joint statement saying AI videos portraying King are being blocked as the company “strengthens guardrails for historical figures.”

We can’t let just anybody exploit grandad. He’s our meal ticket.

    • Suthenboy

Good luck. The genie is out of the bottle. I dont believe anything I see on video anymore. I am seeing AI everywhere.
I noticed some old movie Mrs. Suthenboy was watching the other day had been ‘touched up’ with AI.

    • rhywun

I wonder if it is OK to show videos of the actual words he said, given how many on the left are offended by them now.

A staffer at a Massachusetts school for youths with mental health and behavioral issues died after a student allegedly kicked her in the chest, officials said.

A 14-year-old girl has been charged with assault and battery causing serious bodily injury in connection with the incident, according to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.

The “physical interaction” occurred Wednesday evening at Meadowridge Academy, a therapeutic residential school geared toward students ages 12 to 21 in rural Swansea, according to the district attorney’s office.

Amy Morrell, 53, a direct care staff member at the school, and other staff were attempting to restrain the teen, who officials say had been trying to leave a dorm building without permission, when the student allegedly kicked her in the chest, according to the district attorney’s office. “Shortly after being struck,” Morrell collapsed, the office said in a statement on Thursday.

I hope they give her a stern talking-to.

I watched the latest two episodes of South Park last night.

I guess they’ve given up on even trying to be funny? The earlier recent episodes weren’t good but I laughed a few times at least. These last two… not only didn’t I laugh, I mostly couldn’t even figure out what the joke was supposed to be.

    • Plinker762

      TDS is a terrible thing.

    • Nephilium

I’m trying to figure out why the hell they’re calling it a new season? There’s been maybe a couple of decent jokes in the episodes released over the past year or two, are they trying to burn through the rest of the contract?

      • rhywun

I didn’t get that either. The last “season” had, what five episodes and ended two weeks ago. And now there is another one?

I’m not even bothering. The couple I saw a few weeks ago were trash. I felt like I was watching The Daily Show or something.

      • (((Jarflax

I have owned, or lived with 10 cats. All of them at one time or another playfully bit or scratched me, and several of them bit me non-playfully when I played with them and they were not in the mood, or petted the wrong part, or the right part too long, or just because cats get grumpy. With a house cat that is cute, at worst a little blood and a bit of pain. With a panther? Yeah, no way.

Unless I’m much mistaken, Mom is at the No Kangz rally at the Indiana Statehouse. OBE understandably aside, I’m greatly pleased no one really seems to notice ill effects of the shutdown. The theater of closing down the Supreme Court (“where duties will continue”) for tourists is another great example of purposefully closing shit that people kinda’ll notice. But, uh….? Yellowstone has *slightly* more tourists than 1 First Street.

Wow. 1 First Street. SCOTUS blinded Bro with judicial jizz he could never muster. Gotta sting. He’d have to appeal to the DC Council to get it fixed, I s’pose. He’d get a number and he’d have to wait, wait.. and wait…. What a downer.

    Crackpot cabal

If it weren’t for Tucker, the Great Barrington Declaration, the manifesto that spurred a movement against lockdowns, would never have been written. Two of its authors, recruited by Tucker, are now top Kennedy advisers.

Opposition to lockdowns and mask mandates prompted Tucker in 2020 to bring then-Stanford professor Jay Bhattacharya, now the director of the National Institutes of Health, and former Harvard professor Martin Kulldorff, now the chair of Kennedy’s outside vaccine advisory committee, to western Massachusetts. He convinced them there to draft the anti-lockdown treatise that would become the right’s declaration of independence from the public health experts. It called for the end of lockdowns and focused protection for elderly people. Nearly a million people have signed it

    ——-

Tucker founded Brownstone months after the declaration, following his resignation from his previous job amid sexual harassment allegations. Since Trump teamed up with Kennedy last year, Tucker has used the think tank to convince opponents of big government that they should find common cause with the MAHA movement and a health secretary known for allying with trial lawyers and demonizing industry.

“MAGA meets MAHA meets libertarianism meets the Great Barrington Declaration meets the Brownstone Institute — this interconnected movement has now adopted animus towards vaccination almost at its core, and that’s not something one used to see on the right,” said Gavin Yamey, director of Duke University’s Center for Policy Impact in Global Health.

Destroying science. It’s an inside job.

    • Ted S.

I thought the left *liked* to demonize industry.

      • (((Jarflax

That was before they skin-suited the HR departments. Now they still hate entrepreneurship, but big corporations are ok.

      • Raven Nation

“that’s not something one used to see on the right,”

Kind of like how we never used to see unquestioning fealty to Big Pharma on the left?

    • Brochettaward

The people who were anti-lockdown didn’t need a declaration from agreeable experts to be anti-lockdown. It didn’t spur on anything. It was nice to see some in academia and medicine with a spine to stand up to the covid tyranny, but it wasn’t what drove resistance to it.

    • rhywun

animus towards vaccination almost at its core

      Stop lying.

      • Ownbestenemy

If we stop lying, we’d be mute

  17. The Late P Brooks

The tyranny Tucker saw in public health guidance during the pandemic is still his motivation. “These forces are still out there. We are standing against them,” he said.

    What a goofball.

  19. Ownbestenemy

As I thought, the way this “grassroots’ protests were organized and with their map on their site showing ‘thousands’ of protests (regardless of size), news can run as widespread angst against King Trumpolo

    • rhywun

Meh I don’t think they’re bothering with the “grassroots” fantasy anymore. Why bother when there are already so many mush-heads willing to protest-LARP. They are of course numerically irrelevant at the end of the day but there is always the underlying threat of violence from the Party foot soldiers to be concerned about.

      • Ownbestenemy

I figure nightfall in D cities will be interesting. The aging flower children will be in bed and the real protesters will emerge

    • Raven Nation

You know, I think the Jacket is pretty good on a lot of things, but this on the NK Rally in NYC:

“combined with generally weak approval ratings and declining approval of his handling of key issues like the economy, the very fact that nationwide protests are happening is something he and his supporters will not be able to wave away as astroturfed opposition coming from Soros and “the pro-Hamas wing” of the Democratic Party”

is, umm, odd for at least three reasons.

      1. Being nationwide doesn’t mean they can’t be astroturfed
      2. Even if their not astroturfed, if the 45% of Americans who voted against Trump protest him, not sure what that demonstrates.
      3. Even if they’re real, genuine protests bringing in lots of new opposition, of course Trump and his supporters can wave them away.

      • rhywun

Like I said above, they are numerically irrelevant. Protest-larping against the orange devil is fun and the left doesn’t have anything else to bring meaning to the lives in recent years. So the “nationwide protests” look significant but they are not.
