FAT BEAR WEEK 2025: Congratulations to Chunk 32 who is Fat Bear 2025. Not only is he big and furry, but has an impressive scar. Grrr!
WHEN THE MEANS BECOME ENDS UNTO THEMSELVES: Eugyppius defines and explains the phenomenon of endification, and how it applies to both the firewalling of AfD by other political parties, and COVID masking and lockdowns.
I HOPE HE SUES THE SHIT OUT OF THEM, AND WINS: But who am I kidding, we all know the drill: totality of circs (FODWYA), procedures were followed, everyone (AI, cops) just needs more training, immunity…
YOUR DAILY REMINDER THAT YOU DON’T HATE THE LEGACY MEDIA ENOUGH: Dozens of media outlets refused to sign new Trump Pentagon press guidelines, arguing that the rules were too onerous, but many of the very same outlets previously signed Obama-Biden era media policies that were far more restrictive and censorious in order to cover the war court at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.
BECAUSE OF COURSE THEY DID: DEI had become so normalized [at the US Secret Service] that an overweight female agent who never passed her physical fitness tests was not only retained on staff – she was allowed to moonlight as a model. [Link has been fixed.]
WAS TOMMY FLOWERS THE ACTUAL FATHER OF ELECTRONIC COMPUTING? [… T]he machine [Bletchley] Park staff called Colossus was the brainchild of a degreeless Post Office engineer named Tommy Flowers, a cockney bricklayer’s son who for decades was prevented by the Official Secrets Act from acknowledging his achievement.
THE FREAKY GENETICS OF ORANGE CATS: Orange coloration in domestic cats almost always shows up in males. Only about 20% of all orange cats are female. Females, with two X chromosomes, need both copies of the orange gene to appear fully orange — that’s rare. Most end up displaying a mosaic of orange and black, a patchwork quilt of fur caused by a genetic process called random X inactivation.
THE MAN WHO SOLD THE MOON: Over at SpaceNews, Stirling Forbes has the future of lunar mining all figured out. He raises some good points but I don’t think he gives sufficient consideration to the legal and treaty issues that will have to be overcome. Remember that private US individuals and corporations can’t legally own even a moon rock.
JUST ADMIT SHE’S A MUSEUM RELIC AND MOVE ON: NASA and the Smithsonian are moaning about the irreparable damage and destroyed historical value which will surely occur if Space Shuttle Discovery is moved from DC to Houston. Discovery is not downtown at the Air and Space Museum on the National Mall, but far out in the suburbs at the Udvar-Hazy center next to Dulles Airport (IAD). Discovery was flown into IAD on the back of a specially modified 747. Somehow she was moved from KSC in Florida to IAD without damage or desecration. She will never fly under her own power again; she’s an ornament. We built her and her maintenance was documented exhaustively so we know all her secrets. Perhaps she should have ended up in Houston instead of DC. I can’t justify moving her at taxpayer expense, but if someone wants to spin up a collection to move her I’d be fine with that.

Props to Chunk 32. Hibernation mode now enabled… don’t try to open the lid for a while…
The AI detection is just going to update the old joke “is that a gun in your pants or are you just hungry”
Is that joke for when you know the site is full of baloney?
What about a Pop Tart?
I’m sure Q could find the lad a pop tart or two.
Wait ’til they find candy cigarettes.
Male torties and calicos are even rarer.
It does seem like a fast path version of “Any organization’s goals stop becoming the original stated goals and solely become the existence of the organization” — applied to whatever layer of government / social push you like. Social media speeding up the timeline maybe…. or just power hungry assholes know they can get away with it so push harder and faster (wait… that’s for SF links, not Tonio’s…)
They found the one person in Baltimore that didn’t have a gun?
[golf clap]
Sean’s always lookin’ out for the Poe and downtrodden.
Both Baltimore and Richmond claim Poe as a native son. He was documented to have lived both places, but nobody knows where (at least in Richmond) and the buildings may not exist.
So they are all Raven about him?
Reaction 1: As a model what? Zeppelin?
Reaction 2: She ate the link! Must be trying to give Chunk 32 competition!
Didn’t Victoria’s Secret go through a double plus era?
Link has been fixed. Thanks.
Ah… that explains a lot. “Well, she can’t pass a physical… assign her to the detail for the one no one will ever give a crap about so it won’t matter…”
Oh, I missed the bit about Emhoff. You’re right about that. In this case the SSA was just a status symbol.
Honestly, seems the type of cush status gig ya might give an unqualified person if the person hiring had been somehow.. influenced.. by their relationship with the person hired.
I’m guessin’ that’s a suckin’ ‘n fuckin’ to the ‘top.’ Tres has all the sad.
That she was assigned Ella is… absolutely priceless. Gold, Jerry! Legit gold. The flair old rulers used to display their power were much more fun than this lame shit. Sigh. I need to get an onion. I sense a shakin’ fist a comin’.
Some of the best models wear Goodyear on the side…
Are you thinking of The Michelin Man?
I propose to call this phenomenon endification, and I think it is very significant.
I think this overlaps my “We have to do this because this is what we do” observation.
Yeah… nowhere in the article does it say what happened to said 747 (was it decomissioned? That’s my best guess as to why shuttle transport is suddenly a problem)… given how they move wind turbine blades… I’d be really surprised if you couldn’t wide load it in a pinch… after all, the 747 was only so it was moved in a timely fashion. For that matter… put it on a barge and send it around the Gulf. Only a matter of will and finances… but I certainly wouldn’t try disassembly… and yes, that’s likely just a scare tactic.
But it doesnt fit into their narrative of Trump is destroying X (White House, Space Shuttle, Democracy!)
The 747 was used to move various shuttles from Vandenberg AFB back to KSC. All the shuttle flights took off from KSC; some landed at KSC, others at VAFB. I think the 747 was also used for atmospheric flight testing the shuttle, ie flying it up and releasing it.
Both are decommissioned. One is in LA and the other at Edwards AFB partly dismantled.
Thanks, OBE!
Udvar-Hazy is connected to Dulles. Getting to the Potomac would be a mess.
“For that matter… put it on a barge and send it around the Gulf.”
The problem would be getting it from IAD (further inland than DC and upstream of the fall line of the Potomac) to DC (the closest port).
The last ten years of German politics have been one unending nightmarish festival of failure and stupidity.
That sounds eerily familiar.
The Weimar Republic says hello.
So, here comes MechaHitler?
inorite
Anyone wanna buy a vacation home in Vegas?
I’m a frayed knot, OBE.
🙄
The hilarious mendacity of the latter half of that sentence aside, I will not be one bit sad to see the inevitable extinction of the CDU/CSU. They were never anything but slightly to the left of a 90s Democrat.
“Hilarious mendacity” for the WIN!
Fill the shuttle with helium and tow it to Texas.
Throw it on a flatbed and hand the keys to some dude with a California CDL.
I have a true orange female cat named Coconut. She’s gone more blonde as she got older but still orangey.
My sister had a female ginger that was mean.
Ours is a very sweet cat. Maybe my favorite cat of all time.
Buff colored?
Still orangey. And dirty blonde. No telling what her parentage was. She was in the photo I took for a Christmas post a year or so back.
https://www.glibertarians.com/2023/12/ugly-sweater-cats/
lol How long did it take to clean up the pools of blood after you got them into those outfits?
She loves clothes, just hates hats. She put up with it. The male cat also put up with it but meowed pitifully to all the party guests in the hopes that someone would take it off.
That is because we gingers go white instead of gray or silver and thus present as blondes, to wit.
Indeed, I am more white than ging at this point.
I’ve got a cat that looks like a cougar, another that looks like an impressionist painting (gray, orange, and white), and a chonky tuxedo cat. All 3 girls.
Greetings! I finished thr match and now begin the three-day process of watch
Watching my place in thr standing drop as better shooters have their match. Current division leader: Hunter Constantine, but Jalise Williams doesn’t start until tomorrow.
We had a paid competitor shoot themselves (rumor is superficial quadruceps injury off the draw). Thr procedure was: call a cease-fire when EMS arrived, resume shooting when they left. Total cease-fire time was eleven minutes.
Plaxico Burress was at the match?
At my range, we are told to say there was an incident, but never say a shooting.
That brings out the SWAT team.
Did you stop by that overturned semi truck to pick up some free ammo?
That overturned by the Airbnb the MD/RMs were staying at.
Far and away my cleanest match, still 3 hits on no shoots when my attention wandered. Assuming Jalise doesn’t beat Hunter too badly, this will get my first Nats where I finished >50%. Shane Coley is also shooting L10, so he also has the potential to crush my dreams.
Good for you, NA.
Hope the injured person is okay.
I doubt I will know anytime soon. I’m sure there will be rumor, but I don’t even now the name of the competitor.
They actually had a meeting of senior natch staff re: the incident and how the emergency procedures had worked in this incidence.
The guy was DQ’d for unsafe gun handling, was treated and released, and is driving himself back to TX.
T]he machine [Bletchley] Park staff called Colossus was the brainchild of a degreeless Post Office engineer named Tommy Flowers, a cockney bricklayer’s son who for decades was prevented by the Official Secrets Act from acknowledging his achievement.
if that’s not true it should be.
Man, the news did some heavy lifting all week to make the demolition of the portion of the East Wing a thing.
The Left’s laser pointer strategy is weak, akin to their memecraft.
It is rather humorous; they still don’t understand what’ll get The People’s immediate attention. As always, hung up on appearance, *and* keeping the appearance orderly and well-maintained! (‘Construction at the White House?! Well, I never!!’)
It’s like we’re living in one big HOA, and the media and the Dems are that asshole.
Someone should create a CAPTCHA that shows an satellite photo of the White House and a prompt that reads “Click on the parts that were demolished”.
Secret Service agent who couldn’t pass physical fitness tests was moonlighting as a plus-size model touting her ability to balance “crossfit-training” with her law enforcement duties.
Too small or too big for Tres?
John Sununu enters US Senate race in NH
After weeks of anticipation, former New Hampshire U.S. Senator John E. Sununu made it official Wednesday morning, formally announcing his campaign to return to Washington, D.C.
In an announcement video, the 61-year-old Sununu says it’s time to “lower the temperature” in American politics.
Late to the party, as usual, but thanks CHS delurker for the article. I, too, am generally in lurk mode as I read the posts too late to comment on them.
Your people are known for lurking well.
Shareholder activism
Amazon’s $13.7 billion acquisition of Whole Foods sent shockwaves through the retail industry in 2017. But in a revealing new interview, the man who built Whole Foods from a single Austin store into a natural foods empire says he never wanted to sell to Amazon at all—and only did so because activist investors threatened to seize his board, fire him, and sell the company anyway.
John Mackey, the 72-year-old cofounder and former CEO of Whole Foods, disclosed the pressure campaign in an interview on the Habits & Hustle podcast with host Jennifer Cohen published Tuesday. Mackey described a tense 2017 confrontation with representatives from Jana Partners, the activist hedge fund that had acquired an 8.8% stake in the then-struggling grocery chain to become its second-largest shareholder.
“I met with these guys,” Mackey said, recalling how they presented a PowerPoint filled with what he characterized as inaccuracies, then refused to provide him a copy to review.
“They basically said, ‘Listen, Mackey, here’s what’s going to happen. First, first thing we’re going to do is take over your board. And once we do that, we’re going to fire you. And then we’re going to fire every one of your executives that doesn’t do exactly what we tell them to do. And then we’re going to just put you up for sale to the highest bidder, and there’s not an effing thing you can do about it,’” Mackey said. “And then they walked out of the room.”
Go public, they said.
Sounds about right. 8% owners.
They sure do have their troll game down pat

cocaine!
Speaking of DEI, anyone doubt there will be no pushback about Kendra Scott bragging on latest “Shark Tank” that her company is 95% women employees? Can you image a male CEO getting away with bragging his company was 95% male?
Please excuse a mild rant.
For the last two months I’ve had a minor health issue: acute bronchitis officially diagnosed by two small Vermont town health center medical staff over two visits. At the second visit my doctor prescribed a five day course of antibiotics on the theory I’d beaten the original virus but in the process was colonized by a bacteria. I take the last pill tomorrow but so far the Z-pak hasn’t done anything. It was a good theory however and what I’d hoped for.
At the second visit the doctor also had some blood work done and I’m mildly anemic with low red blood count, hemoglobin, and hematocrit; but high ferratin. A little research suggests this is symptomatic of my system fighting an infection and not unusual. My doctor prescribed iron supplements and suggested a referral to the UVM Medical Center’s Hematology department.
The department’s web site says:
“Hematology is the area of medicine that focuses on cancerous and noncancerous blood disorders.”
Unless there are blood test results I haven’t seen, and I have no reason to think there are, I don’t think I have a blood disorder. I don’t think I need a referral and frankly I don’t think I need the supplement. My diet has plenty of iron.
I casually mentioned this to some family and friends in my daily correspondence and one friend replied poking fun at me for doubting the expert. I replied with my reasoning and got back a single line:
“I did my research! That trained professional doesn’t know what he’s doing!”
Sigh. I forgot. My friend, who eagerly got the COVID vaccine and all the boosters, isn’t poking fun at me. He’s criticizing me for daring to think that I might know my own condition better than an overworked and underpaid doctor working for a small town Federally Qualified Health Center.
Another thing to add to the list of unmentionables in our otherwise friendly correspondence.
Okay, so this is KaRaZeE, but I’m going to suggest dumping your issues into ChatGPT and seeing what it can come up with. Now, I’m not one to go ’round spreading’ rum– Oh, wrong reference.
Look, it’s not going to be able to prescribe medication, but the thing has a vast database, has the time to pay attention to your problem, and doesn’t get pissy when you keep asking questions.
Honestly, the most valuable thing about ChatGPT is its database and ability to pull from various disciplines and make connections no healthcare professional will because they don’t have time and they don’t care and they’re secure in their silos.
Sorry you’re going through that. The referral may just be a CYA action on your primary doc’s part. Hoping for the best.
I’m guessing (because I know people like this) that if your doctor said not to worry about it but you were still a bit concerned, your friend would be the first person to tell you to go back to the doctor and advocate for yourself and demand a referral to a specialist.
Eat more steak.
Ow, best of luck.
BTW I got the pin and it looks great on my cap that I wear everywhere that somebody called me Pinky Blinders in and I had no idea what that is. Thanks!
I fully expect the school to ban bags of chips.
Oh yeah, they’ll also ban the 100-chip assault cans of Pringles.
The kids really just want a silencer for the chips.
Calico cats are the best cats.
and torties
We have a tortie. She’s kinda dumb.
Disagree.
Siamese are the best cats.
Mean fuckers. I haven’t had one but my grandma did.
One most.
Well that was a screaming success.
*Quits*
“totality of circs (FODWYA)”
Nobody asked about this. Fuck Off Dunphy, Wherever You Are.
Huh, I didn’t see that. Where was it? Is there something above the “72 Comments” tag?!?!?
Surfing with Morgan Fairchild, obvs.
Roast beef sammiches, piled on on “Hawaiian style” dinner rolls with butter and horseradish. Bueno.
Texas bitching about losing one of the shuttles is hilarious. Still so butt hurt that LA got it and not them. The California Science Center has OUR space shuttle in full stack position, with the only surviving external fuel tank displayed with it. Houston could never.
It was amazing, when they paraded Endeavour from the airport, through the city, to the Science Center years ago . Took three days, they had to remove some trees, and the route was calculated to the inch all the way to make it fit, but it happened. So I am extremely dubious about the claim that it has to be damaged to move it, but that said, it’s still a dumb idea.
The LA move was about half the distance and only had to deal with one bridge (over) I-405. Udvar-Hazy to a suitable location on the Potomac is about 25 miles direct with numerous bridges and a more chaotic road layout.
They still have Columbia, right?
When they flew Discovery to Dulles (on the 747) they flew a victory lap around the Capital Beltway (I-495) before landing at IAD. It was definitely triumphalist spectacle.
We had a paid competitor shoot themselves (rumor is superficial quadruceps injury off the draw). Thr procedure was: call a cease-fire when EMS arrived, resume shooting when they left. Total cease-fire time was eleven minutes.
What? You should have cancelled the match, sent everybody home and plowed the facility under.
And grief counseling.
Negligent discharge? Meh, that’s just a battlefield fender-bender.

The Weekly Dish
Hard to convey the rage we should all feel at the president’s vandalizing the White House, and the bald faced lies and rank corruption that come with it.
It’s a perfect metaphor for what this despicable man is doing to the Constitution.
It must not stand.
Man… TDS really did a number on him.
He was sort of interesting a couple decades ago.
Did he ever figure out who Trig Palin’s real mother was?
Sarah Palin’s hoo-hah broke him. Shame. He was hot, funny, and almost libertarian at one time. I’ve never talked with him, but I think I’ve been colocated with him at some type bear/leather event.
My oldest friend visit a day or two ago, we were best friends 80 years ago. He was a college prof for years and is well educated (of course) and liberal (of course).
We used to email a lot but over the years kind of drifted apart. Anyway a few years ago he jumped on the covid vaccine band wagon. Insisted that me and the missus
do what he and his wife were doing, lots of boosters, etc. Anyway to shorten the story he is now wearing a pacemaker and has some other device inserted in his heart.
He’s beginning to show his age, though he still rides a bike a lot in the nicer weather. Can’t drive anymore. Can’t hear. Memory lapses.
He doesn’t mention the vaccines but I’m sure he’s getting the flu shots, etc.
He wanted to watch the 10 PM local (Mpls) news and then began to talk about how funny Jimmy Kimmel is.
Fourscores didn’t get the vaccines, never watch the networks, have never seen a minute of the Jimster or any of the other late night guys. We’re just old, boring folks.
And live a quiet, boring life, unlike our hip city friends.
Oof… I’m soon going to have to repeat the childhood vax schedule because reasons and I did explicitly tell the nice nurse practitioner on the phone down in NYC that it’s gonna be the minimum required. None of that seasonal or experimental stuff. She didn’t seem fazed at all so hopefully no battles when the pricks start coming in the next few weeks.
Tom Bihn is moving (some, for now) production to Vietnam. ☹️
Hard to convey the rage we should all feel at the president’s vandalizing the White House
Hard to convey the depth of my disdain for “thought leaders” and their narcissistic delusions about what I should think.
And the idea that they are actually outraged is preposterous.
Their outrage is 100% towards Trump. They wouldn’t give a single shit otherwise.
My daughter got married (3X) today in TX. My son made a video of the ceremony and a lot of pictures so it was the next best thing to being there. It got a little dusty for an old guy and we can only hope that at last she will find some marital happiness.
Ceremony was in a church, a few of her lady friends in attendance, short but had the cake and flowers. Groom’s mother was in attendance in a wheelchair but she had no idea what was going on.
Huzzah!
Third time was the charm for both my mom and grandma.
Their outrage is 100% towards Trump. They wouldn’t give a single shit otherwise.
Obama could have leveled the place and replaced it with a massive block of black granite and the trained seals would have oohed and aahed and applauded wildly.
Instead we have to settle for a Sandcrawler parked on public land in Chicago.
The Gerald Ford Library looks like a public school, it is the second most ugly presidential library. It’s just boring and without any redeeming features. Like Ford. Obama created the yardstick by which ugly libraries are measured.
TPTB:
Tonight’s movie, Sifu vs Vampire, is still pending.
It doesn’t seem to be scheduled.
Anybody got a dime? I need to call Neph or somebody about a post.
*lights TPTB signal*
I found tubi link:

Kind of surprising that you can’t schedule posts at this point. That’s just racist against aliens.
I suppose. I never really thought to schedule my own stuff. I certainly could.
Wait, they gave you scheduling rights?
Are you sure?
If you can, do it.
No, I cannot.
I meant that if they gave me scheduling rights I certainly could schedule my own stuff.
This shit is pissing me off.
I just sent an email to Mojeaux as my last ditch effort. I try not to bug her.
Demand a full refund
It was a nice run*. What are you guys gonna do, go back to Reason or find some other quasi-libertarian site to hang out on?
*Gotta admit I never thought they’d get more than three or four years, hard to believe it’s been damn near a decade.
Mojeaux is on it. One moment.
Ok! Post is up.
Fucking recipe was cut off. Another hour of cooking.
