Tuesday Morning Links

The Cardinals beat the Cowboys. And Marvin Harrison made a defensive back look like a child. Looks like college basketball is underway. The first CFP rankings come out tonight. I wonder who will be #1. Sunderland are in the top 4. I repeat: Sunderland are in the top 4. Plus UCL today and tomorrow, with some biggies. And that’s about it for sports.

Darth Vader has died. I wonder if his kids see him in hologram form as a fit, happy young man, or as an old one (like it was supposed to be before they redid a bunch of shit and kind of ruined the trilogy).

He’s got a point. They could end this tomorrow by voting on the clean CR and then move on to debating other issues. You know, do what’s been done every time in the past.

We’ll see how it goes. My prediction: leftists win in a lot of reliable leftist areas and the media calls it a referendum on Trump. They’ll also sweep VA because that state is still a lot more bluish than it is purple.

Bitches be crazy. I keed! But seriously, these women are nuts.

Wow, that’s a huge drop. I hope the government leaves this to the free market rather than bailing them out, which is what would have happened a year ago.

Well, of course the government said this is illegal. Mainly because it’s discriminatory.

Nobody cares. I mean, technically I cared enough to post it. But only so you guys could all say “nobody cares” as well.

“8 year olds, dude.” Even if they’re clankers, this is pretty fucked up.

This is as it should be. Even after the performative shutdown ends.

Good lord, it’s a joke you crazy assholes. Unfortunately.

Here’s a lovely song. Probably the best song about Alzheimer’s ever written. Here’s another gem. Although on a different subject. Enjoy them both.

And enjoy this lovely election Tuesday, dear friends.

“They could end this tomorrow by voting on the clean CR and then move on to debating other issues.”

I don’t even why the Democrats care so much about extending the subsidies.

    • juris imprudent

Check out rhy’s link in the ded-thred to American Thinker – there is some serious CA based graft that’s probably repeated in other Dem strongholds.

      • DEG

It’s a game everyone can play. On Elon Musk’s recent appearance on Joe Rogan, Musk said he was most surprised at the pushback from Republicans on ending fraudulent government spending. While most of that spending benefits Democrats, some of it goes to Republicans.

        Uniparty baby!

      • R.J.

I am not surprised. Politician=theft. Doesn’t matter if they are left or right. It’s a rare politician who doesn’t want to steal.

      • rhywun

This. It’s become clear now. They are *desperate* to keep gigantic piles of graft running, including the titanic “immigrant” NGO octopus, to the point they will throw much of their voter base under the bus.

        It’s astounding really.

      • rhywun

lol Musk… one of the biggest grifters in history.

Yup, all sides play the game.

Musk… one of the biggest grifters in history.

Yup, all sides play the game.

But my grift is for a good cause!

(lining my own pocket while playing a bunch of low information idiots into seeing me as some sort of savior)….

      • Common Tater

Musk actually produces things and creates jobs.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

There is also speculation that this is performative, a bone to throw at the far left before this off year election to keep turnout up.

I will say that no matter the exact reason, it is a calculated move.

      • DEG

lol Musk… one of the biggest grifters in history.

I know Musk is a grifter. I’ve known he’s a grifter for a long time. Which is irrelevant to whether or not he’s telling the truth about the pushback, and I think he is.

    • Suthenboy

They are tenacious as hell. They haven’t given up their dream of replacing the culture with 3rd world serfs so they want full blown free health care for illegals.

    • WTF

The Trump administration’s freeze on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program funds during the government shutdown…

Big lie in the very first sentence of the article. The Trump administration didn’t shut down funding, the Democrats did by stopping the CR that would have funded everything.

      • AlexinCT

If the team blue crooks don’t blame Trump for their chicanery, the rubes might not support their effort to rob tax payers to replace the current crop of dumbass rubes with a new bunch of marxist rubes in an attempt to rig the center of power for the country.

I wonder if his kids see him in hologram form

My real reaction is in the ded thread.

My reaction here is “Well, hopefully not with a holo-shot gun with the holodeck safeties off!” (to cross universes, admittedly… and yes, Luke should have said ‘Who is that with you, Ben and Yoda?’ realistically… and apparently the Light Side of the Force makes all the “deathbed confession” versions of “live a dissolute life and have contrition at the last second and get to Heaven”look trivial… I favor the idea of Purgatory for a reason…

    Anyway, morning all.

    • Nephilium

I forget where I found it years ago, but it was a take down of the Star Wars movie series (only 6 at the time) and that the real goal of the Jedi religion was to die in front of a Skywalker, that was the only sure way to get a glowing blue ghost. Pits were defined as anti-force zones, as anyone who died in a pit even if it was in front of a Skywalker, vanished, never to be seen again.

      • sloopyinca

Qui-Gon Jinn was the one who discovered how to become a force ghost and he got fucked over by not even getting a cameo in the dead Jedi lineup during that silly Ewok party.

Plus it took him some time to figure out how to do it. How the hell did Vader figure it out in a matter of hours after dying? Is Qui-Gon manning the gates of the Jedi afterlife?

      • The Last American Hero

In the original trilogy, it made for a nice ending, and confirmed that Luke had help redeem his father from the dark side. There’s no need to get into force power canon bullshit.

  7. Common Tater

    “Mainly because it’s discriminatory. ”

Well, it is illegal. Although I don’t see why it should be, as non-food stores are allowed to give cash discounts in practice.

    • sloopyinca

Are they also public accommodations? Are they allowed to only give the discounts to specific groups?

      • Common Tater

It’s like a bar having ladies night, or get in free if you are wearing green.

      • SDF-7

Or on Space Station K7 — get in free if you’re a green lady.

      • Pope Jimbo

        SDF-7:

        Don’t stick it in green.

    • DrOtto

If they take credit cards, they are likely contractually barred from giving discounts. Credit card companies require you to charge the same price as cash if you take card. The only exception to this the credit card companies gave in under that I am aware of is gas stations.

      • Nephilium

I know several restaurants in the area that offer discounts for cash (or offer a “convenience fee” for credit cards).

      • DrOtto

They’re doing it, but are probably doing it against their contract, possibly even state law. It used to be illegal in TX to surcharge for credit, but that changed during Covid.

      • The Last American Hero

Several small businesses around here do it as well. That may be a state thing.

      • DrOtto

Thanks for that Gustave. I was unaware of it. It’s been awhile since I’ve entered into one of those contracts.

      • Gustave Lytton

I remember being able to report merchants who charged a surcharge fee. Now even the pizza joints charge one. Okay, you get to have the expense of cash handling.

        Fuck those fuckers.

      • slumbrew

Well, at least visiting players get to vote in Cali because of all the taxes they pay.

I’m a bit torn — I do think that their urges are likely innate to their biology / neuro-chemistry / psychological issues / whatnot… I also think that like other dark urges adults get, they should not act on them. I also also think that if and only if this sort of thing provides them release and they can use it to channel said urges such that they do not need or want to act on them with actual children… it might be better.

And yes — there is of course the “feeding the urge makes it stronger” counter argument… I seriously don’t know, and it may come down to the individual psyche. (On of the many many reasons I don’t want to try to run anyone else’s life or society). But like the “go to jail if a cartoon looks ‘too young’ to a judge’… I am troubled by tarring imagination, free expression or a purely created artifact with this brush on the “if it saves one child” type argument.

It is stupid puritanism like every other law against things that most people find disgusting, but which don’t directly harm another. In this case it also intersects with fetishism because the disgust is based on an inanimate object looking like something else. What exactly is the good argument for a bad law?

  18. rhywun

    We’ll see how it goes.

The Dems (or “Dems”) will win everywhere. If “Trump!” doesn’t work, there’s always “abortion!”

Nobody is actually going to vote on any issues that matter.

    • Common Tater

While I’m against abortion, it might be best to make one federal law, it’s 16 weeks and that’s it, so it stops being a political football.

      • Drake

That’ll be just as unconstitutional as the abortions everywhere rule we used to have.

      • Common Tater

Don’t see how it’s unconstitutional. You could argue Roe v Wade was wrong because it was legislating from the bench, but that wouldn’t apply to Congress.

      • DEG

The majority opinion in Dobbs, which overturned Roe and Casey, ends with:

Abortion presents a profound moral question. The Constitution
does not prohibit the citizens of each State from regulating or prohibiting abortion. Roe and Casey arrogated that authority. The Court
overrules those decisions and returns that authority to the people and
        their elected representatives

Skimming over the rest, it looks like the Court is discussing what States can do, not what Congress can do. Though under the 10th amendment, it seems to me regulating abortion is reserved to the states. However, that last sentence makes me wonder if some on the Court think Congress could regulate it as they, as well as state legislatures, are the people’s elected representatives.

      • Rat on a train

It also doesn’t eliminate it as a political football. It just changes where the game is played.

      • rhywun

It will never stop being a political football because there is no way such a law gets passed.

      • (((Jarflax

Don’t see how it’s unconstitutional. You could argue Roe v Wade was wrong because it was legislating from the bench, but that wouldn’t apply to Congress.

      • Tonio

RC is correct. Vintage Fiestaware had radiation issues due to uranium in the glaze, particularly Fiesta Red.

Also, certain older Mexican pottery has lead-based glazes. Imagine the surprise of mid-century California families who squeezed fresh OJ into that wonderful Mexican pitcher, unaware that the fruit acids would suck the lead straight outta that glaze.

The short end cannot move as far, and the total force cannot change, so the amount of force per unit distance is proportionally higher, amplifying to effective ability to shift whatever is obstructing the movement of the end of the lever.

Fuentes went on to claim that Vance was mentored by “a Jewish neocon and a gay fed” and again called Vance: “A fat, gay race-traitor who married a jeet.” Elsewhere he has attacked people for supporting Vance because of the ethnicity of Vance’s wife and the fact that the couple have produced children who Fuentes calls “non-white.” Elsewhere Fuentes has attacked Vance because “his kids are brown.””

Last KF&G match this Saturday. It’s BUG format so I’ll be shooting my P365 and my Colt Agent. Between the weather getting colder (and NYers being remarkable pussies) and SaraSpa counterprograming a USPSA match the registration is pathetic.

The Colt is giving light primer strikes. Or maybe the ammo has hard primers? Dunno. I’m wondering if the gun has had a lighter mainspring put in and that would explain why the trigger is so good (but giving light strikes). Do people do that? The other option is the gun is just wearing out, but again, who would put that many rounds through this gun?

Attempting to zero the Gideon on the P220 was an abject failure. After installing according to the directions, the optic was sliding back and forth. I put in new screws, but it might be that only Sig-branded optics will work. I think I have one on my PCC.

The MagMo guy said he could add this to the P220 grips, and I think it’s a great idea. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVknPurJNq8 That would seem to alleviate the problem of my support hand crushing my strong hand fingertips.

My prediction is that Dems will win in VA, NJ, and the commie in NYC. Newsom will get his 100% Dem gerrymandering of CA and most certainly it will all be pinned on Trump! being the most unpopular and dictatorial meanie ever. I don’t think it will mean diddly for the midterms. That battle will largely be decided over the next 8-10 months depending on how the economy goes. A good or great economy and the Dems either don’t win the House or barely get a majority there while not getting the Senate.

On another note, how in the hell is Nick Fuentes even being discussed in the national media? And how is Carlson so frigging stupid as to give him an interview? It boggles the mind.

Brown, who was sued in November of 2017, numbered among Strike 3’s earliest targets. But in the eight years since, Strike 3 has become the most prolific copyright plaintiff in the country – filing, by the Guardian’s analysis of Pacer data, more than 20,000 federal copyright cases since September 2017….

Some judges are furious at just how many cases Strike 3 are filing. Armed with “hundreds of cut-and-pasted complaints and boilerplate discovery motions, Strike 3 floods this courthouse (and others around the country) with lawsuits smacking of extortion”, district judge Royce C Lamberth wrote. “It treats this Court not as a citadel of justice, but as an ATM.”

    I’m predicting a Fateh win.

More than 9% of the registered voters in Minneapolis have already cast their ballots in this year’s election for mayor and all 13 City Council seats.

On Monday, the City of Minneapolis confirmed that 23,000 residents have cast ballots since early voting began on Sept. 19 – the second highest early voting turnout in a municipal election, according to the city.

Under a ranked-choice voting system, this year’s ballot asks voters to choose as many as three candidates in order of preference in each race.

Early voting and ranked choice. I don’t think the Boy Mayor has a chance. I also blame him for his loss. After he and Omar split over the St. Floyd riots, Frey should have used his power as mayor to crack down on the Somali Vote Machine. Instead he did nothing. Pussy.

He responded, “I do not support the full abolition of the police,” and that’s when it got ugly. The organizer said, “Get the f**k outta here” … and chants of “Go home Jacob” went up from the crowd, and that he did.

“If the Nigerian Government continues to allow the killing of Christians, the U.S.A. will immediately stop all aid and assistance to Nigeria, and may very well go into that now disgraced country, “guns-a-blazing,” to completely wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities. I am hereby instructing our Department of War to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians! WARNING: THE NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT BETTER MOVE FAST!”

We haven’t stopped all aid to there yet?

NPR sez OMB is a big liarpants and there’s not killing of Christians going on. At least not enough that anyone should care about it.

      • Pope Jimbo

NPR is probably mad that OMB is whining about a few Christians being killed instead of celebrating the comeback of the Nigerian lion population.

    End the parasite pipeline

New York Attorney General Letitia James and more than a dozen other state attorneys general on Monday sued the Trump administration over its new rule limiting eligibility for a popular student loan forgiveness program.

The AGs’ lawsuit, filed in Boston federal court, was prompted by the U.S. Department of Education’s final rule released last week. The rule changes the definition of a “qualifying employer” under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program to exclude certain organizations “that engage in unlawful activities” such as “supporting terrorism and aiding and abetting illegal immigration,” according to an Education Department statement.

PSLF, signed into law in 2007 by George W. Bush, offers debt cancellation after a decade to borrowers who work for non-profits and the government.

    What could go wrong?

to exclude certain organizations “that engage in unlawful activities” such as “supporting terrorism and aiding and abetting illegal immigration,”

So anyone working for the Biden administration won’t get their loans forgiven?

I will be voting today so I can vote No on everything (including the non-binding BDS bullshit) and None Of The Above for all the candidates.

    Mystery

A gruesome train stabbing that left nine people with life-threatening injuries over the weekend has put the spotlight back on the United Kingdom’s widespread knife-crime problem.

    ——-

British politicians condemned the attack, with Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood telling the House of Commons on Monday that knife crime “claims far too many lives in our country.”

Successive governments have vowed to tackle knife crime but it remains a significant issue in a country where access to firearms and other weapons is tightly controlled.

    I blame Robin Hood.

    • WTF

Sure, it’s the knives that are the problem, not the hordes of third-world imports hostile to Western civilization.

    Principled

A quartet of bipartisan House lawmakers on Monday proposed a framework to temporarily extend ObamaCare’s enhanced tax credits that includes a sunset period and an income cap for high earners.

The “statement of principles” from centrist Reps. Don Bacon (R-Neb.), Tom Suozzi (D-N.Y.), Jeff Hurd (R-Colo.) and Josh Gottheimer (D-N.J.) represents the only public proposal from either side to address the subsidies since the government shut down more than a month ago.

Democrats insist any deal to end the shutdown must include an extension of the enhanced subsidies, which expire at the end of the year. They accuse Republicans of having no interest in an extension and not caring about the cost to consumers.

We can’t stop. This is what we do. It’s self-evidently essential.

  47. The Late P Brooks

Republicans say any health negotiations will happen after the government is open, though many admit they don’t want an extension because they say the tax credits mask the underlying failure of ObamaCare.

Which, oddly enough, is precisely why the Democrats are so desperate to see them continue.
