I’m going to phone it in for the cocktail this week, we’ll make:
Mulling Spices
- Cinnamon/Cassia sticks
- Cardamom pods
- Allspice berries
- Whole Clove
- Star Anise pods (broken are perfectly fine here)
Go with an approximately equal amount of all the spices but the cinnamon/cassia. Break up the cinnamon/cassia sticks into about 1″ long pieces, and lightly crush the rest of the spices. Feel free to add or remove spices as you see fit. I’m partial to a little dried orange peel and ginger, some people like some black pepper, and others like to add some juniper. To use the spices, take a tablespoon for a 750 ml wine bottle, up to 3 tablespoons if you’re doing a full gallon of cider, put into a muslin pouch (for easy straining), and drop into either a pot or crockpot with your beverage of choice. Heat, but do not boil, for up to 30 minutes on the stove top, an hour (on low) in the crockpot.

Off the current topics, but reverting back to last night’s topic, you inspired me, Mr. Ilium, to seek out an e-book edition of Hogfather. It was actually available for download from my local library, so I’ve borrowed and begun to read it. Thanks!
Pratchett does a good job of making his books fine to read as stand-alone, but I recommend reading the various “cycles” (Death has one, I believe Hogfather is the third or fourth book in the cycle) in order.

Hogfather is the fourth of the Death cycle (Mort, Reaper Man, Soul Music, Hogfather, Thief of Time). Death is unique in that he appears in all but one or two of the books as a character. I hope you find as much entertainment from Pratchett as I have.

In their first appearances, they were very poor (((parodies))). DS9 helped rehabilitate the race, even though it forced them through several generations of social change in the course of a couple of seasons.
There is a wonderful line in ST:SNW where Pelia rants about (paraphrased) “all this no-money socialize crap.” Surprised they let that through.
Strange New Worlds is the best of the post-DS9 Trek series. Outside of that, Lower Decks is entertaining, if you can accept a comedy in the STTNG verse with a lot of callbacks and references.
What chance is there a real functioning holodec would not be the scene of nonstop drunken orgies?

In an unprecedented move, Horning announced Wednesday he will closethe resort Saturday, Dec. 27, when ski patrollers are planning to strike after months of failed wage negotiations.

Along with the end of the holidays, I hope 2026 brings economic optimism to the US, along with employers being more active in their pursuits. I’ve been at this gig, and in my tiny bedroom, for too long, but it has had its positives. $aved a good a good chunk after starting with negative dollars; provided my first ‘normal,’ or at least predictable, schedule Stateside; and I much approve of the stress-free and unique people-watching opportunities.

I watched One Battle After Another the other night and was not impressed. Matter of fact I felt dumb after watching it because I had no idea what the point of it was.
So naturally I searched Youtube and watched a few YT film reviewers explain there interpretaton of what this movie was supposed to be about and none of those made a lick of sense either. I did learn one thing today, Junglepussy is actually a rapper – I had no idea.
