The Hitler quote in the background is a nice touch.

    • Evan from Evansville

      It really was.

    • R.J.

      Don’t do it.

      • rhywun

        Don’t buy it from crazy.

    • Threedoor

You just want to see if she wears the glove for you too. Don’t you?

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

Well, I mean, I usually pay extra for that…

Rabbit Test is a 1978 comedy film about the world’s first pregnant man.

I saw this in the theater. I would have been 7 at the time. Because parents back then dgaf and would take their kids to see anything.

“Rabbit Test” is a 2022 science fiction short story about abortion by Samantha Mills, which won the 2022 Nebula Award for Best Short Story[7] and the 2023 Theodore Sturgeon Award.[8]

        Of course it did.

      • rhywun

which won the 2022 Nebula Award for Best Short Story

I was tempted to investigate further but then I thought, No.

      • J. Frank Parnell

In 2091, Grace is 17 years old, and abortion is totally banned. When her government-mandated menstrual tracker implant automatically administers a pregnancy test, her life changes. The story follows her over the next several decades, interspersed with vignettes about the history of abortion and pregnancy tests, going back millennia.

It also won the Hugo award, obviously.

      • rhywun

        Stunning and brave.

    • The Gunslinger

“The killer was sentenced to ‘Qisas’ – a retaliation punishment under Sharia law similar to the Biblical principle of ‘an eye for an eye’.”

We’re the same as them. As a Christian I look back fond on memories of my teenage cohorts getting to gouge people’s eyes out of their sockets. How the crowds did cheer

“Every administration for the last 100 years has crept ever closer to Fascism.”

Trump is saving me so much money soon the stores will be paying me to shop there.

    • Derpetologist

My favorite reply to telemarketers is: sorry, I can’t afford any more free stuff.

      • creech

I like to feign senility (not too much of a problem, I fear). “I’m glad you called. What time are you picking me up for the grocery store?”or Where are we meeting for lunch with our other cousins,?”

Catastrophe has hit San Diego, the temps have fallen below 60 degrees. Pretty ladies in snow boots and toques, dogs and cats complaining.
Im running the fire pit now, not sure if 7-11 has any more in stock, Ill know when I travel to yonder store for beer, pray for us,

OT: What are some of the best charities in your opinion?

    With “best” being determined by:
    – Acts as a sort of booster for those who are working to better their own situation, not just handing things out and incentivizing poverty
    – Alternatively, focuses on helping people who are not responsible for their bad situation
    – Spends most of the donations on the actual cause; pays the employees enough to attract and retain competent people but not enough to turn it into a racket

    • Bobbo

My disc golf charity tournaments are cool, complete transparency .

    • trshmnstr

On a national stage, i give to Habitat for Humanity on occasion. I believe you can direct your contribution to a particular chapter, which would reduce the administrative overhead. I like that they’re there to give a hand up, not a handout. I’ve never run into a local chapter that I didn’t like.

OTOH, they’re obnoxious once they get your contact info, and I’m suspicious that they’re the ones who sold my contact info to all the other charities I’ve never contributed to.

Special Olympics is another one I like to contribute to. Idk if they have a bunch of overhead, but it’s a good cause. They’re less pushy than Habitat. They’re really into “inclusion” right now, but it’s not too obnoxious.

Aside from that, we have a couple of Christian charities we give to (we sponsor a few kids through Compassion International and we occasionally give to Samaritan’s Purse).

Compassion is a good charity for providing food, shelter, and education to poor kids internationally, but they fall into that charity trap of every correspondence being an ask for you to provide more money, which is annoying.

I volunteered with Samaritan’s Purse for a few months earlier this year. Good organization, very mission focused. However, it was a very feminine crowd and I was the youngest person by 30 years. My local group was a bit “hard of hearing” when I told them what I wanted and didn’t want to do. They stuck me in cold call sales, basically, and I told them in advance that I wasn’t going to be good at that. Unsurprisingly, I hated it and told them it wasn’t a good fit. They took that to mean I didn’t want to volunteer anymore and they cut me loose. I didn’t complain. Still, my girls put together Christmas shoeboxes for their ministry. No hard feelings.

Oh, and I give to IJ. Good cause, and their donor relations team is top notch.

    • Chafed

Institute for Justice and Pacific Legal Foundation. Not entirely sure they meet your criteria but I’ll add New Civil Liberties Alliance and Do No Harm.

    • Gustave Lytton

Third IJ. Although this year gave a gift to the children’s hospital wing of the hospital that took care of my wife this past summer.

    • Ted S.

I’m surprised nobody said the Human Fund. 😉

      • Chipping Pioneer

        Money for people!

I saw a man with snow in his hair today, turns out he was an old surfer.

  6. Bobbo

This is worse than La Jolla fog. People are dropping in the streets from the cold, toques or not. It’s horrible, horrible, I tell you.

  7. Bobbo

    Suntans lost!
    Hair appointments missed!
    That “pool cleaning by Fabio”
    Missed
It terrible here, I miss Michigan

From ded thred: I like Ice Ice Baby. And Milli Vanilli sounds like standard euro fare of the same period. Surprised no mention of Bell Biv Devoe or Tone! Toni! Tohney! (Maybe that was covered by the r&b/party rap?)

I flew into Ft Lauderdale for an afternoon. First thing I did was proceed to A1A (Beachfront Ave!). Luckily it wasn’t packed nor were the jackets getting jacked. No shells either. Tried the next block.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen Cool as Ice, but the local used record shop had that poster up (along with all sorts of awfulness and a few good ones) so it’s always stayed in mind. Always on my mind. Tellllll meeee…..

  9. dbleagle

    Good episode.

Commute departs momentarily. With the sale over, and not being a weekend, I predict a very slow day. The fuck-off cold will keep people away, as well. High of 11, low 5, today. Yeesh. Add that together, and the day is gonna feel remarkably chill. *crosses (cold) fingers*

The engine light popped on again, after I’d cleared them on Tues. Called the folk I bought it from, and while they’re full and unavailable for checkups, I played the ‘I got this car from you only two months ago’ card, which might boost me in line. Info’s been sent to their “Kia Guy” at the Subaru place we picked it up from.

Best of luck on your travels, glibbies.

    • Ownbestenemy

Before they reset the codes did they at least tell you what it was throwing?

      • Evan from Evansville

It was an O2 thing. Likely the gas cap slightly open? I may be able to drop it off w folk today.
*Crosses fingers* Should hear from Kia Guy at the place I got it from.

    • Ted S.

The thermometer here says 32. That’s not terribly cold.

      • Sean

        Thats literally freezing, my dude.

    • Gender Traitor

Good morning, Sean, OBE, EfE, Ted’S., and homey!

    • Chipping Pioneer

The world’s economic output would decline 62% compared to what? The world in which they make energy more expensive and less reliable for everyone?

      • Rat on a train

You forgot the multiplier effect of government subsidies …

      • Chipping Pioneer

You’re right. It’s even worse than that.

      • Chipping Pioneer

I recognized the multiplier effect as fraud as soon as my Econ 101 prof uttered it.

Yes, if you count the same dollar multiple times, you will count more dollars.

      • Rat on a train

Won’t someone think of the glaziers?

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        Hey, you can multiply fractions.

  12. Chipping Pioneer

I’m fired up this morning because I need to precipitate a “it’s him or it’s me” decision at work.

I recognize it could go badly for me but I like my odds.

    • Toxteth O'Grady

      👍

      We’re all counting on you.

    A prelude to winter.

Got the furnace humming and I’ll need another wheelbarrow of wood this morning. Bringing that in will warm me up.

    • Raven Nation

      1 here, heading for 23

      • R.J.

A tad cold here. 43 degrees. Like Bobbo, I am out of propane. No rush though.

      • Toxteth O'Grady

        18° here (Celsius).
