        But they have eyes!

I recall a conversation with a young lady at a small group outing at a conference.

        “I’m a vegetarian!”

        “But you’re eating fish?”

“Oh, I just don’t eat anything with eyes.”

Uffda. A completely fair and dispassionate story on this from the local proggie news site

I was at the event and can report that the attack elicited numerous gasps. I also felt a wave of fear that Minnesotans were set to witness more political violence.

Omar was less than four minutes into remarks when a man lunged at her. She had just asked for a moment of silence for Alex Pretti and Renee Good, who federal immigration agents each killed this month on Minneapolis streets.

In the seconds following the incident, Omar felt like the least phased member in the room of several dozen people.

“We will continue — these fucking assholes are not going to get away with this shit,” she blurted out, which drew loud applause but did not remove the feeling of unease.

I have no idea if this was staged or not. I wouldn’t put it past her. Not like the media will dig into this story. It also feeds into her super power of being The Victim.

I’d also like to ask why the current crop of Dems think swearing is so cool. I’m quite the vulgarian myself, but I’m just some dumb yahoo. If that was my job, I wouldn’t be cursing.

Cut their DOT funds off completely.

I find it irritating when news stories do not include the date of the event. The current fashion seems to be to maybe put the day of the week in the article which is only useful if you’re a constant and current reader. But when you go back to try and put together a timeline it’s useless, ESPECIALLY when they do the constantly updating thing and change the date of the article, but not with a change tracker that’s visible to the reader.

    • Ownbestenemy

Our male didn’t really show his age much until he got to 7,000 feet of altitude, and then his pulmonary hypertension (basically, bad blood flow in the lungs) flared up and he declined pretty quickly. At 15, every good day is a gift, and every bad day is just a preview.

New York and California could each lose nearly 10% of their congressional representation after the next US Census is conducted in 2030 – with the Empire State poised to lose two seats and Cali expected to drop four, according to a new analysis of census numbers from the Redistricting Network that showed both state populations shrinking or stagnating.”

      Whatever.

I still think it is inevitable that FL and TX will turn into NY and CA. The whole reason NY and CA got the way they are is massive population growth.

      • DrOtto

Florida was blue or at least purple and turned red. They are getting an older population that tends to be conservative. Texas is filling with Californians that mostly claim to be conservative, but then put Beto signs up, so unfortunately, I think you’re right about that.

      • Grumbletarian

There aren’t enough leftists to turn TX red anytime soon. They flooded into Austin, raised the cost of living about 50%, and are now looking for the next conservative city to ruin. I hear Nashville is on their radar.

  18. Grumbletarian

State law requires a constitutional amendment to be passed in the state legislature twice, with an election intervening in between the sessions, in order to go before voters. But Hurley ruled that the first passage of the amendment did not take place before the state’s 2025 elections because early voting had already begun.

“There is no rational conclusion except that the election began on the first day of voting (September 19, 2025) and ended on November 4, 2025,” Hurley wrote. “Therefore, the Court finds that following the October 31, 2025 vote and passage of [the redistricting amendment] has not been an ensuing general election of the House of Delegates.”

Delicious. The Democrats’ desire to provide everyone six months to vote in an election so they have ample time to massage the results stopped them from fixing another one.

    • R C Dean

What will be interesting is when “elections begin on the first day that ballots can be cast” collides with the US Code stating that:

Culinary question. How many Glibs here have actually had hominy or hominy grits?

    • Ownbestenemy

      Hominy yes, hominy grits no.

    • Rat on a train

      yes and yes

    • UnCivilServant

Not gona Lye – I haven’t had either. Still looking for a Corny joke to make up for it.

    • Nephilium

Does having it made into arepas count? One local place emphasizes they use alkaline treated corn to make them.

      • Ownbestenemy

I see no reason why not

    • DEG

      Grits – yes

Hominy – no, though I had similar corn in Ecuador

      Hominy grits – no

    • Common Tater

      “hominy or hominy grits”

Is there hominy that isn’t grits?

      • UnCivilServant

Hominy is merely the result of treating corn with lye or lime to break down the kernel walls and make the nutirents absorbable.

Turning that result into grits is only one method of preparation.

      • DEG

Yes, don’t grind it. You can roast it without grinding it.

      • Ownbestenemy

Yes. Its “puffed” corn cause of the alkaline process, typically lye.

      • Common Tater

Then that would include posole, tortillas, etc.

        So yes and yes.

      • Pope Jimbo

Just more anti-Minnesoda bullshit! We like to soak our cod in lye and everyone makes fun of it.

But soak corn in lye and everyone loves it. It ain’t fair!!

p.s. I have had both grits and hominy. I like hominy. Grits? When my daughter-in-law from Georgia makes them I eat some and pretend I love them. (actually not that bad, but I wouldn’t miss it if I never had them again).

    • Ownbestenemy

Best application of hominy is in a bowl of pozole

    • Not-so Rugged Individualist Hobbit

Yes and yes. Posole and green chile grits.

    • Pope Jimbo

I think grits are like oatmeal and tofu. Their tastiness completely depends on what you mix in with it.

      Plain? Uffda!

    • Not Adahn

      There are people who haven’t?

      • Sean

        I haven’t.

      • Not Adahn

I’d say have some hominy as a side dish to your next steak, but it’s not keto.

    • Aloysious

Yes to both. They pair well with onions, chiles, garlic, eggs, different hot sauces, and /or cheese. Casserole, stew, or served as a porridge.

      Now I’m hungry.

That security detail is really just a security theater, amirite?

If the security guards really thought she was in danger, there is no way that that guy could have wandered up and sprayed her. He would have been tackled after his first step.

The guards are just as lazy and dumb as the rest of us. Their protectees are safe because we still live in a country where everyone doesn’t want to physically harm them. The Dems are doing their best to egg on the weirdos into crossing that line though.

    It’s complicated

“If there is even the slightest bit of ambiguity, that just opens the door for people to interpret [video] according to their own existing attitudes,” said Oliver of Penn State.

Videos only show viewers a moment in time and can be manipulated or edited, said West. Shorter videos that are commonly seen on social media can also be misleading, he said.

“We don’t know what happened five minutes before or an hour before or three hours before,” West said.

    ——-

The rise of artificial intelligence and deepfake videos adds another complication to the public’s understanding of these events, experts said.

Shah, from the University of Wisconsin, said it’s becoming more and more difficult for people to differentiate between AI and reality on social media. People may stop believing what they’re seeing altogether.

“The idea of image as truth is also deeply in question,” he said.

She says it will facilitate “the movement of students, researchers, seasonal and highly skilled workers” to Europe while also launching the “first EU Legal Gateway Office in India”

This doesn’t seem very wise considering the political landscape in Europe

Equally surprising is a country negotiating so their “high-skilled” people can leave for other countries. I assume they want remittances or something…

    Bigger! Better!

Previous rallies have drawn millions of people, and organizers said they expect even greater numbers on March 28 in the wake of Trump’s immigration crackdown in Minneapolis, where violent clashes have led to the death of two people.

“We expect this to be the largest protest in American history,” Ezra Levin, co-executive director of the nonprofit Indivisible, told The Associated Press ahead of Wednesday’s announcement. He predicted that as many as 9 million people will turn out.

“No Kings” protests, which are organized by a constellation of groups around the country, have been a focal point for outrage over Trump’s attempts to consolidate and expand his power.

The suspect, whose identity has not been publicly released at this time, made her shocking statements directly to a firearms dealer in Kenmore, New York.

According to DHS, the woman told the dealer she wanted to “buy a gun to protect herself from ICE Agents, and also to kill ICE Agents.”

Finally, in a third unhinged video, the woman addressed “single ladies” in ICE agents’ vicinity. Those ladies, she said, could “do something not without risk, but, could help the cause, for sure.”

“Get on Tinder, get on Hinge. Find these guys. They’re around,” she added. “If they’re an ICE agent, bring some Ex-Lax and put it in their drinks. Get ’em sick. Nobody’s going to die. Just enough to incapacitate them and get them off the street for the next day.””

Classic case of anachronistic projection. The classical liberals of the eighteenth century championed the rule of law and of reason; individual liberty and autonomy; the possibility of improvement of the individual and of society, incl and esp by good government.

They were not champions of electoral democracy (which worried them a lot, esp the Americans) or unfettered markets—not even Smith. What they wanted was an end to monopolies and privilege. To the classical liberal imagination, the world was not zero-sum.

And they certainly did not think the state as evil. That’s just libertarian hijacking that had been going on since the counterrevolution against the New Deal.

The closest that contemporary movements get to classical liberalism is technocratic progressivism—liberty, evidence, reason, and the possibility and duty of social improvement through careful, evidence-based policy design. They would recognize Elizabeth Warren as best representing their tradition today.

The French are not lazy. They just enjoy leisure more than most (no irony here) And this is perfectly fine: .

As productivity increases, it is perfectly reasonable to take it partly as more leisure (fewer hours per week, earlier retirement age), and only partly in income.

    https://x.com/ojblanchard1/status/2016078338922602703

      @LevyAntoine

      2. If it were about innate preferences for leisure, French people exposed to higher wages would not work more. But we know that e.g. French cross-border workers in Luxembourg and Switzerland work as much as locals! This suggests constraints on hours worked in France.

Part of the population democratically imposes very high marginal tax rates on labor earnings; as a result, people end up working less than elsewhere. From a representative agent perspective, this may look like a pref for leisure, but I think it misses the political economy!

    • Pope Jimbo

of course and it is so sustainable… they have no debt no budged deficit the early pensions are fully funded. Other countries are stupid for not enjoying more leisure.

Where are the largest welfare programs of Social Security and Medicare?”

But even if you consider both these programs welfare, which is not ridiculous to do, it is meaningless because the immigrants unless they return home immediately before retirement will also all use this welfare. But if they are using more when young, it is an issue. This is the same in Europe. The idea is to be net positive 20-65 and you will be net negative young and old. But if immigrant are negative in their prime they will be even more negative overall. Also I feel that welfare usage by immigrant numbers are not showing everything.
