The US women beat Canada, and the Canucks are having a hard time just saying their team lost. Toto Wolff, who I do not generally like, made a pretty funny joke about the people complaining about the Mercedes PU. So of course the Euro and rest of the world outside the US media lost their shit. And in soccer, VfB demolished Celtic on the road in a their Europa play-in first round. I’m irritated because I should have been there but my German buddy had to cancel his trip and I wasn’t going into that Hamasnik stadium alone, so I stayed home. And that’s it for sports.
I’m curious to see the fallout from these suits. I think the verdicts are preordained, so I’m waiting to see the aftermath. Sadly, they couldn’t haul 50m parents in for trial as class-action defendants for not controlling or at least monitoring what their kids were doing online. But those people don’t have as much money, so they were never going to be held as responsible as the deep-pocketed companies.
Look at the extra large set of nuts on this guy. I salute you, sir.
A lawyer actually does his job and people are freaking out? This should be what every lawyer tells his client before and during every single deposition they’re involved in. Just maybe hold the mic a little further away next time, ok?
Out of the frying pan and into the fire. Unless he starts hiding all of his assets somewhere else when he makes the move. Because that city will do it too when they get a chance.
Damn, dude. Try to control yourself. If he did this, they shouldn’t ban him from the property. They should charge him with a crime.
Good. More of this, please. And apply it across the country and to the teachers who are leading these impressionable dumbshits to make bad decisions.
Wow, this would be amazing. Ultimately its final discovery will be on the same timeline as cold fusion reactors, I bet. But they money will keep flowing in, which os what matters.
Push them into the ocean. No, not the people. Just the legislators. OK, maybe some of the people. Actually, probably a lot of the people since they keep overwhelmingly voting for these assholes.
Here comes the troller-in-chief. And when nothing comes of it, they’ll say he got the media all in a lather just to distract from Epstein, or his polling, or Iran, or something else.
Not satisfied that their geese is laying golden eggs fast enough to keep their insatiable spending funded, politicians rush to slaughter them. Isn’t that asshole an environmentalist as well? Why’d he fly all the way across the country and jet around the state he doesn’t represent or work in to decry the fact that it might be hard for him to steal shit people earned?
Here’s a rollicking tune. I wish it was longer. The same could be said for this one. Enjoy them both.
And enjoy this lovely Friday and weekend, dear friends.

I could tell by the headline who the author of the hockey story was. Of all the self-important Toronto sports writers, he’s by far the worst.
God-DAMN but sports journalismists are smart!
There was another game, but it was won by the Arctic Yetis, who weren’t even playing!
“This issue has dominated pre-season discussions, with reports indicating dissatisfaction from rival manufacturers Ferrari, Red Bull, Honda, and Audi, particularly as Mercedes supplies engines to other F1 teams, including McLaren.”
Red Bull makes their own engines?
“He continued, “I don’t know where that comes from and it starts spinning again. Maybe tomorrow we’re inventing something else? I don’t know, I’ve been on the Epstein files, God knows what.”
Not that funny, but big whoop.
They make wiiings, not engines.
They started making their own for this new technical package in conjunction with Ford.
That Hawaii thing is crazy.
You know what – De-annex Hawaii. Give the kingdom back it’s independence with a new bayonet constitution which forbids them from having any armed government officials, even military.
the tyranny spirit
I read that as “tranny spirit” and was afraid you were encouraging them to go shoot up a school or something.
#metoo lol
The totalitarianism will be fabulous!
Me three…
I am so ready to decamp this state. Next spring I retire and I am GONE!
The lessons of the Wuhan Flu panidemic are out there to see and the government decides to double down on dumb.
Or how’s the rebuilding going?
Me four.
Surprisingly, ZeroHedge doesn’t seem to be blaming (((them))).
The commenters are up tio their usual standards.
Anyone who proposes a wealth tax should have all of their assets confiscated. Then the person gets thrown in the deepest, darkest cell we can build, which promptly gets floded with patomic sewer water.
These guys literally believe they have the divine right to rule and are no longer subject to democratic governance
We have enshrined rights to protect us from “democratic governance,” you fucking idiot. Want to take their ability to control policy away? Make the government as weak as the founders wanted it to be instead of having the ability to basically control every facet of our lives.
Silly Sloopy, these people don’t want a weak government, they want to be the ones in charge of an overpowering government.
They have the audacity to call him a progressive.
He’s a Marxist.
Worse yet. Bernie’s houses get confiscated and he’s forced to live in a DC housing project.
Haven’t the people living in those project suffered enough already?
Wow, this would be amazing.
No it wouldn’t. And every time you see the words “might” or “could” in a headline, replace it with “might not”.
Why?
To point out dishonest hype?
Why?
Doesn’t the use of the word “could” also imply that “could not” is an option?
“We could win this game” means we might also lose the game.
Shhh… I’m trying to get Ted to overtly state that he wants to be miserable and pessimistic.
Ditto with “up to” or “as much as” some number.
The next covid could kill as much as 5% of the population? (Note, this is just a hypothetical example to prove the point.)
It might not. Alternatively, you could say it will kill nobody, with the “as much as 5%” still being accurate.
UCS is good at making people miserable, isn’t he? :-p
It does not appear that way, no.
So Hawaii is going for the gusto and violating the First, Second, Third (arguably), Fourth, Fifth, and Eighth amendments in one go?
Not include their own State Constitutional ‘protections’.
It’s for your own good, fascist lover!
You will learn to love Big Kahuna.
That sounds like a burger with pineapple on it served with sweet potato fries.
Their logic here is astounding. They’re basically saying if they can’t have absolute control over your life, your livelihood, and your property at any time they choose, then the fascists will win.
I’m okay with them not having any control over anything – and spending the rest of their days in a bamboo gibbet hanging from a cliff someplace.
Their logic here is astounding. They’re basically saying if they can’t have absolute control over your life, your livelihood, and your property at any time they choose, then the fascists will win.
Unless we can unite the economic power of industry with the coercive power of the State in a new civic religion symbolized by the strength of myriad sticks bound together into an ancient symbol of power and authority, fascism will destroy democracy by permitting individuals to go off in multiple directions! Everything in the State, nothing outside the State, nothing against the State is the only path that can protect us from the evil fascists suggesting that individuals can choose how to spend their allotment of the State’s wealth!
And here we see the power of the Big Lie.
I don’t even know if it is truly the Big Lie. Seems more like “we are doing it for the greater good” and only immoral hate-filled people could possibly oppose that.
The destruction of all social media might be welcome.
The destruction of the video game industry, less so.
Just for starters. If everything “addictive” has to go, well… where does it stop?
“Our records indicate a dangerous water addiction. You are banned from ingesting fluids indefinitely.”
*sentences abuser to dihydrogen monoxide re-education camp*
“ The destruction of the video game industry, less so.”
It died back completely before and rose from the ashes, better than ever. I think that might happen again once all the grifters and wokies are shook off during a major collapse.
It didn’t die completely, there was a refugia in Asia that repopulated after the previous near-extinction event for the industry.
FB is going to collapse on its own.
They kicked off well over ten million Americans last spring. I was one of them, for the sin of “account integrity” you could prove to their AI you were a real person by filming yourself, at which point it would permanently kick you off. You could start a new account by sending them pictures of the front and back of your drivers lisence. Now many and not willing to do that? I suspect that verification is coming for most users and it’s going to tip the platform more than the deluge of crappy adds my feed was prior to being kicked off.
“Lori Chavez-Deremer’s husband Dr Shawn Deremer, 57, was barred from the building after being caught on video inappropriately touching two female Labor Department staffers, according to The New York Times.”
I want a better source, and the names of the alleged victims.
And the video made public unedited. So we can check for AI/
“Chavez-DeRemer, who received bipartisan support in her confirmation hearings last year, has faced an internal investigation after allegedly taking staffers to a strip club on an official trip as chief of staff Jihun Han and deputy chief of staff Rebecca Wright were placed on leave.”
She took them to a strip club after they were put on leave, or were they put on leave for going to a strip club?
Appropriate touching is OK? Up to a certain point? As much as is reasonable? As far as…
Appropriate touching is very situation dependent. Shaking someone’s hand is fine, stroking their hair is not. Unless you’re stroking the hair of the pharmaceutical salesrep that’s currently blowing you of course.
As far as you are attractive to the person touched at the moment of touching and all following moments in which they might decide they want to cause you misery.
“Be attractive. Don’t be unattractive.”
Yep.
“It is given as a nasal spray and leaves white blood cells in our lungs – called macrophages – on “amber alert” and ready to jump into action no matter what infection tries to get in.”

I have nothing but nice things to say about everyone shown or mentioned in that video.
Les Wexner’s attorney is in your ear right now, isn’t he?

I wish they were in a well?
Not quite well-wishers;

That’s two people I would not want for neighbors.
OTOH they would keep the traffic down.
Wow. I guess “fucking up everything you touch for a very long time” is now translated into “There is nobody better to talk to about foreign policy”.
Maybe, depending on how you interpret that.
I forgot how despicable she is.
She wants to put Trump and anyone in his admin on trial. She never mentions what laws they broke, other than “I don’t like what they’re doing”. If every administration came in and put the last administration on trial, that would be the end of our country. This is also quite the incentive for Republicans to cheat in elections.
““The COVID-19 pandemic highlights the importance of clear legal frameworks for state and county emergency management to ensure that the State and counties are ready for any type of emergency.””
No it doesn’t.
They are repudiating the idea of inalienable rights.
I am trying to imagine the mentality of the kinds of people who would think this is a good idea.
Every goddam human that thinks they know what is best for someone else. That isn’t a small portion.
I know what’s best for everyone else. It’s called ‘minding your own business.’
Look, rights are inalienable unless we say there’s an emergency.
It’s the European way!
Plausible deniability, where have you gone?
Is this the revelation of a state secret…. or self-aggrandizement by a few Ukrainians who want to seem important.
The official “russia did it” story was silly. But I always assumed it was the US. The “they brought the idea to the CIA” claim is a bit of a tell, since long before that, Biden had talked about stopping the pipeline and hinted that we would take it out militarily.
I believe the US did it. As a fuck you to both Russia and western Europe, because that is how we roll.
Does turning off the sidebar work?
From what I’ve been told, if a single person turns off the sidebar, the entire website gets nuked for everybody.
Do you want to be that guy?
It was off last night.
I’m going to give Sloopy a mulligan on this one because I can’t imagine doing AM links even under the best circumstances, and he’s in Central time zone his deadline is 0700 hours his time, and he has kids to get up, fed, and out the door. He may even compose this on a phone or tablet, which is its own special room in hell.
I also assure you all that no Glibs author, editor, or website admin would ever deliberately fuck with you people just to watch you Reeeeee and stim.
That’s why we’re not here right now. This is a simulation.
You’re gonna make me take time out of my vacation to make Monocle permakill the sidebar, aren’t you?
Was this a policy? I didn’t see anything telling me I couldn’t do that.
😒 I mean… Of course not, that would be absurd.
I can live with the sidebar (I mean I guess I have to live with whatever you guys decide since I know nothing about any form of programming beyond Basic and the Commodore 64) but if some kindly soul can find a way to give me back highlighting on new comments I would be very grateful.
Also links opening in new tabs would be happy making.
Sorry to sound demanding. If money can be thrown at these issues with any positive effect I am happy to provide some, beyond that I have nothing to offer.

I may have fucked with the readers, but it was out of spite, not to watch the rheeeeing.
Now I want to know what a sidebar is.
Is it something that only shows up on a desktop?
And on monocle.
I read the instructions and I’m afraid I don’t know what they mean. Maybe on a zoom I can convince one of you to walk me through it like I’m someone from 1986 who is booting up an Apple IIE for the first time.

“The 25-year-old artist, real name Janarious Mykel Wheeler, crashed on Thursday on Interstate 85 south of Haperville, Georgia, and called his manager in a panic over what to do, Hapeville Chief of Police Bruce Hedley told TMZ.
The car was still drivable and the manager told him to meet her in a nearby parking lot at a Hilton Hotel, the report said.
Lil Poppa stayed in his car as the two spoke through his rolled-down window — just for the rapper to pull out a handgun, point it at his head and pull the trigger, the police chief revealed.”

Trump Admin: Boasberg is a traitor!
Also Trump Admin: Help us Judge Boasberg, you’re our only hope.
No reason Elon can’t come forward with the literal receipts. It is amazing though how quickly the Trump administration has turned into everything it promised to not be.
Oh, that’s that’s interesting. My sense is that the Trump DOJ is not protecting the Biden FBI so much as protecting ongoing FBI operations. Which is itself troubling as I don’t want the FBI engaging with social media other than their own official posts.
As a sidenote, I don’t believe they had a choice of which judge they had to file with. The entire thing, including JW’s original filing, is with the DC federal district court which gets a lot of agency-related cases. Boasberg is Chief Judge of that court but also hears cases in addition to his CJ duties.

never been is she right
She sounds like she needs a good screwing to calm her ass down.
Buckees is a good place to stop on long road trips. I prefer other places that are smaller myself, yet I enjoy the concept of having everything you might need on an average vacation there. Bucees is too busy at times which is why I tend to stop at different locales.
Texas has new concepts with a small shopping area, gas, good clean restrooms and a couple of sit-down restaurants. Those are more relaxing to me.
There’s a 30 mile stretch from Angleton, where I race my cars, and Surfside Beach where you pass 4-5 Buc-ees. They’re all the little ones.
It’s amazing.
That sort of kinetic captioning is an immediate nope.
Same.
OK I tortured myself for 30 seconds or so.
Typical self-loathing AWFL. We are not sophisticated enough for her, like Europe is.
Yes.
She’s awful and that haircut doesn’t suit her.
It serves to accentuate the smug.
Not an Ensign Ro fan, huh?
I’d go with the off putting painted eyebrows.
Not viewing twits at work. What’s her complaint?
“Not enough people are paying attention go MEEEEE!” Thats her performative complaint
Her complaint is that it’s not Starbucks.
She finds it aesthetically unpleasing and beneath her standards of sophistication. It offends her to see the uncultured rubes enjoying themselves. Now, one might argue that walking around in public filming oneself being smugly dismissive of people simply going about their business is not in fact sophisticated or cultured, but unless one is willing to drive that argument home with actual violence it is unlikely to penetrate the armor of smugness.
Did she at least try the brisket?

“A spate of articles with titles like “Where Have the ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ Republicans Gone?” and “Where Are All the ‘Don’t Tread on Me’ Americans?” has cropped up in publications ranging from libertarian mainstay Reason magazine to DC insider site The Hill.
Have conservatives turned their backs on the Gadsden Flag — the Revolutionary War symbol that shows a rattlesnake against a yellow background with the words “Don’t tread on me” below — by supporting what Reason calls “police-state immigration tactics”?
Just the opposite: It’s libertarians who’ve wound up as dupes of the anti-American left.
Minneapolis proves the point: In their efforts to thwart America’s immigration laws, what did anti-ICE activists do? They set up “borders” of their own, with barricades blocking streets and “protesters” demanding ID from anyone trying to get past.”
https://nypost.com/2026/02/19/opinion/libertarians-who-join-the-anti-ice-crowd-are-being-duped-by-the-anti-american-left/
Or the Hill and Reason are corporatist ass clowns for cheap labor.
There was always the whiff of leftist bullshit around those guys. I had to leave when came out of the closet.
“All libertarians are for open borders” is one of the more irritating Reason positions.
It’s a minority position among libertarians from what I’ve seen. Wade through the sewer that the comments section there has become on any proimmigration article and that’s apparent.
“The purpose of the government should solely be to protect individual rights, but only for special people,” isn’t necessarily anti-libertarian, but it’s not distinguishable from an aristocracy.
All anarchists are for open borders. Anarchists tend to think they are the only true libertarians. And I have kind of stopped worrying about whether I am a true libertarian at all. Deport them all, then deport a few more (I can suggest several Congresscritters for the more) and then can we finally cut spending?
Reason is no longer libertarian in any real sense. When the elder Kochs left, it became part of the establishment machine.
Remember, Koch was one of the original funders of the Stanford Internet Observatory, the hub of the state-corporate censorship industrial complex featuring the 5-eyes Intel agencies and all major tech companies and media platforms.
You cannot be a part of creating that and be remotely libertarian.
This is why you see the majority of their column inches devoted to attacking Republicans rather than classical liberal issues.
This, among a few other fantasy utopian positions has driven me away from the libertarian name.
“We have to save things from the government!”
“What things?”
“The right to debauchery, degeneracy, and antisocial behavior without consequence”
“but what about the culture we had before leviathan?”
“No, that’s icky and regressive. We can’t save that from being regulated away by government”
“Grreeeaaaatttttt”
I guess the best label for me these days is neo-buchananite.
Corp/Trashy/Jar
Ditto.
When I had my full move from neo-con to liberty minded around 06/07 I wanted to be a libertarian but couldn’t over borders, death penalty, infanticide, and a handful of other issues. I’m no utopian
It’s the main issue that turned me off.
They’re just living in a fantasy world there – no recognition of human nature whatsoever.
I’d be OK if they could go with a basic “of course, open borders would be the ideal state but one incompatible with our current welfare system…”
But they can’t, apparently.
Open Borders is cultural suicide for the culture which opens them.
The theory of open borders is that all people are identical everywhere in the world and culture has no meaning. Even Marxists aren’t that fucking deluded.
Open borders is not (necessarily) cultural suicide, unless you prefer your culture taxidermied in a museum somewhere.
But with a legal system with perverse incentives and antidiscrimination laws? Yeah, it’s a problem.
Your unassimilated foreigners freely coming and going and keeping their own traditions will erode everything that made up your original culture like passing waves.
To extend the analogy – cliffs erode because they’re not alive. The forest tolerates migratory animals just fine.
But invasive species eradicate them.
The forest tolerates migratory animals just fine.
[Chestnut blight and Chinese lanternflies wave hello]
Without them, the Oak/Hickory/Dogwood forests I grew up with/in wouldn’t exist. I love those forests.
Likewise, I do not mourn whatever was growing before the Chestnuts moved in.
Open borders is not (necessarily) cultural suicide, unless you prefer your culture taxidermied in a museum somewhere.
But with a legal system with perverse incentives and antidiscrimination laws? Yeah, it’s a problem.
I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle of your extremes. A change to our laws wouldn’t fix all or even most of the problems with open borders.
It’s the prosperity and the weak culture that make the mass immigration so damaging. Without the prosperity, the volume wouldn’t be so high. Without the weak culture, we’d be able to absorb more volume without succumbing to it.
Getting rid of the welfare nonsense will move the needle a little bit, but it doesn’t solve the H1B issue or the chain migration issue or the lack of assimilation from various groups.
Likewise, I do not mourn whatever was growing before the Chestnuts moved in.
In this analogy, you and I ARE whatever was growing before the chestnuts moved in.
You may have no problem with that culture dying a quick death, but I kinda want to put up a fight before becoming the world’s economic “parts car”.
The lack of assimilation problem will take care of itself when they realize we’re not to pay their way anymore and they have to make an attempt to support themselves.
Until 1996, I was a classical musician. I played Bridge.
Warning me that “my culture” will fade away is not only unnecessary, but points out that the two of us never really shared one to begin with.
Why did you give up the Bridge money to go into an unstable field like Semiconductors?
Have you tried getting a date with Omar Sharif hanging around?
When buying, we all want “cheap labor.”. When selling, not so much.
“Never before in American History have we seen the kind of greed, arrogance and moral turpitude.” Bernie Sanders on the CA billionaire tax. He’s right, but not in the way that he thinks.

Clear the straights via nuclear saturation. Widen it until the Iranians can’t close it anymore.
“Project Plowshare was a roaring success. You should’ve gotten our notice about the demolitions work.”
Heh – the ensuing 500.ft total waves should clear up the rest of the Gulf too.
With Trump bluster and China’s need to determine if their technology works as sold to them…will be interesting
Yep. The radar system they sold Pakistan got some Indian Rafale jets shot down.
I just dumped mine into liver research but if you’re right I won’t need that replacement.
*meant for Stinky*
Luckily I put my retirement fund into posassium iodide futures. If we all die in a nuclear holocaust I’ll be a rich man.
Honestly, this seems like a horribly stupid thing to do.
Iran has already demonstrated its impotence. I have DEEP suspicions that the Russian navy is likewise toothless after their “this taker is under our protection, leave it alone.” Which only leaves China.
If OMB calls their bluff and they don’t wipe out the USN, then they’ve taken their whole new “anti-US alliance” concept, shit on it, then set it on fire.
I’m wondering if the CCP’s culture of lies has given the leadership a false sense of the actual capabilities of their assets. Nobody can safely say the hard truth, so they say what their superiors want to hear and make it look plausible enough to pass the rudimentary inspections performed. We’ve seen it in stones on sticks pretending to be plants and green-painted hillsides to fool flyover pictures. It wouldn’t be a stretch for the same culture of lies and shortcuts to have rotted the military as well.
You know it was Israel that gave up last year? Israel was able to surprise Iran (obviously not happening this time), but ran out of interceptors when Iran hit them with missiles.
The problem with China is we are fucking with their oil supply. Much the same way WWII started in the Pacific.
Where are you getting your data on that?
From my mere plebe viewpoint, it looks like the US/Israel fucked with Iran rather rudely and Iran’s “retaliation” did absolute dick.
AFAICT, Iran killed more Americans by giving weapons to various Iraq baddies than they’ve ever been able to directly in their entire existence.
Weakness draws aggression.
Where are you getting yours? Iran was able to pummel Israel at will with ballistic missiles, while Israel and the U.S. were running out of interceptors that were rarely making intercepts. I thought this was common knowledge?
To end the war, Iran and the U.S. agreed to the farcical strikes on Iranian .nuclear facilities while Iran shot a couple missiles at a U.S. base that missed by miles.
That’s why the goalposts got moved from nuclear enrichment to ballistic missiles. Also why Israel wants to the U.S. to lead the attack this time and take the brunt of the retaliation.
I have heard nothing regarding a shortage of intercepters.
The story always came across as Iran made a face-saving toss of a few missiles because their ability to retaliate was nonexistant.
https://www.csis.org/analysis/depleting-missile-defense-interceptor-inventory
So – Tea Leaf Reading.
I am completely willing to believe that it’s easier to go on offense and either oversaturate or simply deplete the interceptor supply.
I am unwilling to believe that Iran chose to do this, then stopped because they are sober, wise, peace-loving statesmen.
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I don’t think Iran has the ability to drive (((anyone))) into the sea with their ballistic* missiles.
Ballistic: Scary adjective added to missile to convince people it is super advanced tech despite actually meaning the opposite.
Iran stopped shooting without noticable damage being done to its targets because A: they knew it wasn’t working, or B: they ran out of missiles themselves, or C: they feared they were going to run out of missiles and wanted some for later.
I’m going with C
C. Is my original point/why the exercise is stupid.
If this Grand New World Order Anti-US Coalition for a Multipolar World of Fairness Justice and Equality for the Global South blinks in the face of Trump, then it’s admitting to all future possible recruits that it is incapable of actually standing up to the US.
Missile warfare is very hard math, not tea.leaves. If that analysis is correct, we don’t have enough missiles left to completely load each of our THAAD launchers (48 each) in the world.
IF
Not only using up their interceptors but the cost per shoot down was a terrible ratio.
https://jinsa.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/Cost-Estimates-During-the-U.S.-Israel-Iran-War-07-21-25.pdf
I’m sure this was leaked to exert more pressure, but it can’t be denied.

Sure it can make them compromise. Or it can start WW3.
This is at least the 3rd “Iran will start WWIII” accusation trump has been hit with. Maybe 4th.
At least 2 were “if you dont attack it is WWIII” and “”if you do attack….”
Yeah, I think this is 4, even split between whether attacking or not attacking causes WWIII.
Tell us more!
The strikes didn’t happen, or were on empty locations and the reports of fatalities were bogus? They didn’t hit Iran’s nuke facilities, or is it that Iran never actually had any nuclear facilities and that as all propaganda? Or they DID happen but the Iranians had created an impenetrable bunker for them and Iran only said that there was damage in order to soothe BabyTrump’s fee-fees?
Seriously.
Do you remember when you were parroting HAMAS and when called on it could not find a single source that wasn’t HAMAS?
Who exactly is your source that Iran agreed to let the US bomb their nuke sites?

In a memo sent Thursday to House and Senate committee leaders, the White House proposed banning investors with more than 100 single-family homes from purchasing additional homes, according to a copy of the document viewed by The Wall Street Journal.

How difficult is it to set up additional corporations each owning up to 99 homes?
“For months I’ve been wondering why Apple keeps pushing me stories I have absolutely no desire to read.
Why does it keep offering me stories from the Guardian, BBC and other left-wing news-sites?
Why is Apple so intent on pushing me stories from the Huffington Post?”

Why doesn’t Douglas Murray write in paragraphs?
Why doesn’t Douglas Murray use the controls in the feed to block media he doesn’t want to see?
It’s not rocket surgery.
Apple News is ridiculous in that it’s part of the OS and can’t be removed.
I think it is just an “app”. Either delete it or don’t open it. I have never opened it.
That’s absurd. Things that should be baked into the OS: TCP Stack, DNS Client, Local Storage Drivers.
Things that should not be baked into the OS: Web Browser, any information retrieval application, editors, photo galleries, etc
I forgot it was even installed – I had it in the folder where I put unused things – but I was able to delete it without issue.
I never use Apple News, it’s been horribly left wing since launch and you cab’t change it. Makes me wish some version of Linux phone was as stable as Linux for a pc.
It is not baked into the OS. It is just installed by default. Windows has one too IIRC.
“Either delete it or don’t open it.”
Unless something has changed, it can’t be deleted (I did on an older OS, but I had to go into the command line as root).
It will send outgoing connections, even if you never open it.
Then yeah, that is Bad Behavior.
If I gave a shit again some day, I would install a tool like I used to in order to block that shit. “Little Snitch” I think I used.
It’s deleted on my phone and tablet. Couldn’t say on my desktop.
On my old phone or Mac desktop there was a permanent News tab when you opened Safari, all hard left sites and you could not add in any new ones.
I think I eventually burried it in some folder.
That “universal vaccine” idea sounds like a really great way to create severe allergies, autoimmune disease, inflammation related cancers….
Keeping macrophages on “high alert” sounds great…
But…
I worked on a project to boost immune responses to tumors using vitamin A derivatives. It did indeed boost the immune response to tumor challenges. But it also severely degraded memory B cell responses, harming long term immunity.
The immune system is insanely complex. Non-descriminantly “stimulating” the immune system is likely to be a net negative. If it wasnt, evolution would have already left it in such a heightened state – this is really simple and would not require any significant alterations to biology. Just up-regulating a single gene. Maybe even not down-regulating that gene as much as normal.
So…. big grain of salt.
Still, cool research and worth reading the papers to see what is really happening.
Sure it will ruin your immune system, but with our subscription based booster routine, you won’t die until you run out of money.

That is brilliant

“President Trump slammed the investigation into Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance Thursday, but told reporters it’s time to pay attention to“other subjects” after weeks of national fixation on the apparent kidnapping….
Trump said he was perplexed by the fact that authorities told the media they were flying a Pima County Sheriff’s Department helicopter equipped with an FBI Bluetooth “sniffer” to detect Guthrie’s pacemaker.
“I didn’t like when they talked about going after the pacemaker before they even started going after it,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One en route to Georgia.”
https://nypost.com/2026/02/19/us-news/trump-rips-nancy-guthrie-sheriff-for-revealing-high-tech-fbi-sniffer-searching-for-her-pacemaker/
I’m also perplexed. Pacemakers have Bluetooth, and it transmits that strong of signal?
He “rips”. He “slams”.
Can any “reporter” write like an adult anymore?
Sounded more like “mildly questions”
OK boomer.
Bluetooth sniffer isnt anything new Donald.
Is the concern revealing the tech, or is it the possibility a ruthless kidnapper might take steps to render the pacemaker undetectable by killing her and destroying it? I think announcing “Hey we can possibly locate her by electronic means because she has a pacemaker” is kind of stupid.
That is correct on the second part. So agreed to smackdown the investigators speaking up about it.
I’m gonna need some pliers and a set of 30-weight ball bearings.
What? What the hell do you need ball bearings for?
Oh come on guys, it’s so simple, maybe you need a refresher course, Heyyyy…
It’s all ball bearings nowadays.

“And when nothing comes of it, they’ll say he got the media all in a lather just to distract from Epstein, or his polling, or Iran, or something else.”
Think about the world we live in today. It’s a given that the news media, and people in general, can only think about one thing at a time.
In local sports news I find it very amusing seeing articles like Romanian athlete gets historic best 17th place at Olympic event. we occasionally did ok in summer, but winter Olympics damn
Congratulations on the local done good.
You’d think Romanians would be at a disadvantage in sunny months.
Not bad. But no Eddie the Eagle.
The Carpathians don’t have good skiing?
Back in the commie days I’m a bit surprised they didn’t strap skates onto the gymnastic program alternates.
the skiing in Romania is mediocre. the slopes are usually too short.
You’d think the gymnasts could be turned into ski jumpers. Not the ones injecting their penises, the ones that do flips. If Belarus can be strong in that sport, why not Romania?
Pulendran told the BBC: “This vaccine, what we term a universal vaccine, elicits a far broader response that is protective against not just the flu virus, not just the Covid virus, not just the common cold virus, but against virtually all viruses, and as many different bacteria as we’ve tested, and even allergens.
Huh. Cold fusion being right around the corner is more believable.
Do you want Reavers?…
Yep! My thoughts exactly. Sounds like miracle cures they hawked in the Old West.
The F1 “sustainable” fuel rule is galactically stupid, even for them. As for the variable compression motor, I’m hoping for a return to spectacular catastrophic mid race engine failures.
Fly 10 teams from race to race, with 6 cargo jets per team, per race, 20+ races per year.
Use “sustainable” fuel.
“We’re helping!”
11 teams now.

You need a ringer like that “Brazilian” skier.
I’m going to have to remember this one.

Look how insanely expensive it is. That proves we’re on the level.
EmblemHealth did not answer ProPublica’s questions. In a statement, a spokesperson said the insurer does “not admit” to the state attorney general’s findings but agreed to the settlement “to avoid time-consuming litigation.”
This always annoys me. Firms shouldn’t be able to pay, but “not admit” guilt.

Yes.

There they go again, rubber stamping everything Trump does. This is why the Dems need to pack the court, right?
I think I’m ok with this, it seem like this is something Congress should handle (as useless as they are).
Wait, I was told that the Supreme Court was in Trump’s back pocket now with all the conservative justices, and would step aside while he made himself God-King for life.
The narrative shift is sure to be entertaining.
It is all part of their cunning plan.
“A non-binary activist won a payout from a hair salon after suing because it only offered male and female options when booking a haircut online.
Alexe Frédéric Migneault, who uses they/them pronouns, says they were so traumatized by the experience at Station10 hair salon in Quebec, Canada, that they were forced to take a year and a half off work….
The salon controversy is not the first time Migneault has taken such a stand.
In 2023, the non-binary activist went on a public hunger strike outside the Quebec public health insurance board to force it to add a gender neutral ‘X’ option to Quebec health card”

The suit should have been thrown out at first filing and the activist beaten with rattan canes.
Weapons-grade narcissism. I hope they is mocked mercilessly until the end of time for this shit.
Make sure the next hunger strike never ends.
There’s a video of the incident.

As a parent, the best way to end a tantrum is to ignore it. If that doesn’t work, it’s belt to ass time.
This person never got either, and still isn’t. We have a culture of perpetual children throwing hissy fits.
And now The Hill thinks I’m a bot.

The Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West, a health care workers union, is behind the tax proposal, which would apply a one-time 5% tax on residents of California whose net worth exceeds $1 billion. The tax, supporters argue, would fill in a $100 billion gap in federal health care funding, with the rest going toward food assistance and education.
How can anybody repeat this with a straight face? It’s ludicrous in every way, but the pretense that it will only be “just this once” is especially insulting.
Never mind what a state tax is doing filling a “gap in federal health care funding”.
*cough* illegals
Bingo. Definitely for the illegals. The Fed has said “Fuck you” to CA, and so now they need to bilk their billionaires to keep the dream alive.
SEIU is maybe the most communist of all the labor orgs, and that is saying something.
They are the absolute worst. Worse than Nikki.
I can recall reading the Union newsletter of another Union representing employees of SEIU (office stars, organizers, etc). Just as many complaints about “management” there as other employer.
Weird turn of events that unions are now all-in on illegal immigration. Not 5 years ago they wouldn’t have fallen this way.
Yup. They are no longer even pretending to represent the people they claim to represent. It’s just another commie front group like so many others.
The legislative equivalent of ‘just the tip’.
Unless their proposal includes something that will prevent a $100 billion gap in the future, it won’t be “just this once.”
“One time”. Yeah, just the tip.

Deminimis fuckup left in place it appears.
Seems pretty sweeping, which is the surprise to me.
I was never convinced that he had that sort of latitude to impose wide-sweeping economic reform unilaterally, and I was never really convinced by his arguments. I was hopeful that SCOTUS would strike this one down. I have no comment as to whether it was good policy, but I was pretty confident he didn’t have the legal foundation to implement either way. And 6-3 is convincing.
But if he can’t impose tariffs, there’s nothing to collect. So I’m not sure how this affects the calculus.
Not sure how this will work. I don’t know enough about the economics of how these tariffs worked to know whether they were a good idea or not. I’m long past the point where “free trade uber alles” is a guiding principle, particularly with those who put their thumb on the scales like China. But I can say that they negatively impacted me and my purchasing. I’d rather not pay substantially more for a European manufactured product because Trump thinks Canada isn’t doing enough to stop Mexican and Chinese fentanyl.
Deminimis strictly speaking isn’t a tariff. All existing tariffs still apply and even zero dollar items can still require paperwork. Either way, it would go away in 2027 thanks to the current Congress.
Just the paperwork alone makes it a financial loss.
With war potentially set to break out between Ethiopia and Eritrea it can be hard to decide which side to support since neither side at first obviously aligns with your ideological priors. To help you decide here is a guide to who has already declared their support for which side
https://x.com/kunley_drukpa/status/2024541765131202648
A: Why should I pick a side?
B: Why would who else has chosen a given side be a factor unless you can point to an underlying factor previously overlooked that drew the attention of a flock of NPCs?
What a silly question. You always have to pick sides. That is the way of the world.
LOL
I’m on the same side as Li’l Fuckwit fo shizzle
OTOH I just assumed those two countries were in a more or less permanent state of war.
Tough choice. Eritrea has the better cyclists and a better flag. On the other hand, Ethiopian food is pretty good, and I have no idea about Eritrean food. Eritrea probably has better beaches, because they took them all when they split from Ethiopia, but I don’t like the beach. My daughter had a roommate from Ethiopia, and it would be awkward telling her I’m rooting for Eritrea, so I guess I’ll have to go with Ethiopia.
I know a hot chick who likes to shoot, who’s originally from Eritrea. Easy pick.
I’m choosing diabetes.
Watching videos of the LPG crash in Chile unlocked new fears.

Sewer systems, especially those that handle a combination of wastewater and stormwater, often overflow during heavy rains. The problem is exacerbated by population growth that’s straining aging infrastructure. Climate change is also a factor, Maguire says, because as temperatures rise, storms dump more rain in shorter periods of time, overwhelming sewer and stormwater systems.
“The intensity is a really important part of it,” Maguire says, adding: “It is absolutely a climate problem that will continue to get worse.”
It were global warming wot dunnit.
Global warming did this, during perhaps the coldest winter to hit the Eastern seaboard in 35 or so years? A pipe collapsed, because local governments have better things to do than provide basic services.
Portland dose this several times a year and simply shrugs. https://www.koin.com/news/portland/human-waste-willamette-river-sewage-pipe-rain-atmospheric-river/amp/
On Wednesday, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser requested federal disaster support, including full reimbursement for DC Water. The White House didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
full reimbursement? They deserve a bonus.
DC Water should be fined for untreated dumping.
Monocle doesn’t seem to be working correctly….
1. How does one distinguish new comments? I can’t see any difference between comments at all.
2. I do not have a # in my sidebar despite there showing 12 new comments in parentheses.
3. The H/S toggle basically only hides all or shows all.
There should be a number above the number in parenthesis – the number of unreads on the current page. It might be 0.
When you refresh, you’ll load those server-side unread messages and that number should reflect that. Clicking on the number should jump you the next unread comment.
U mad bro?
After protesters interrupted a Portland council meeting Wednesday, one councilor is looking to loosen the city’s rules around carrying guns in City Hall.
Councilor Loretta Smith, who represents East Portland in District 1, has drafted a city ordinance to allow city councilors to openly carry a firearm while conducting city business. Smith has never carried a firearm.
——-
Portland has a culture of public protest that dates back decades, and council chambers have long been a backdrop for public attention and unrest. But, Smith said, recent demonstrations feel different.
For months, a concerted group of activists dubbed “Revoke the ICE Permit PDX” have urged city councilors to take stronger legislative action to close the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in South Portland.
——-
Revoke the Permit PDX organizer Holly Brown told OPB she was shocked by Smith’s plan.
“Councilor Smith is so afraid of constituents using First Amendment rights that she wants to shoot people?” Brown told OPB. “No one was threatening her. Susan was simply holding pieces of paper. The councilor is the threat here.”
When “I’m not touching you!” goes horribly wrong.
a/k/a Attracts self-entitled assholes like flies.
That’s super funny, OR is open carry, PDX and other cities restrict it for reasons.
