Had a nice weekend this time around. The unseasonable warmth subsided for a bit and I got to watch my son play ball in 68° weather. His tournament was a mixed bag. He’s still the smallest kid on the team and his peers appear to suddenly begin taking steroids. So there’s a bit more of a challenge as lately he hasn’t been able to outrun as many throws or dig as many hard hit balls out of the dirt. He pitched two decent innings but the defense started to snowball right as he was pulled so he left with a game tied at 6. He did get some solid hits yesterday, and quite a few 8-9 pitch at bats resulting in walks all seemed to build his confidence a bit.

The real MVP, was the beehive that rooted itself to the backstop. Nothing like bees to freak out white mothers who are not sure if their kid is allergic.

¡enlaces!

Fun fact: I wear one of these to Cardinals games. Ladies love it.

It is believed the first person to wear a mask in Mexico was American wrestler Corbin James Massey, who in 1933 lost on his debut under the nickname “Cyclone Mackey”.

Immigrants doing the job the natives won’t do.

    • Ownbestenemy

They aren’t messed up. Just confused, discovering themselves, exploring their options, seeking new things….

  2. rhywun

That sob story from Argentina seems calculated to elicit support for a different way forward. I wonder what it is.

    • Threedoor

      Omg!
I buy 90% of my food with a credit card!!

    • mexican sharpshooter

Damnit. I will have to fight Mega Lulu myself.

The Monster from Next Door update.

I learned when I went to bitch at the building manager that the neighbor’s howling dog kept me up all night that this is a known problem and that the male occupant left her and apparently she replaced him with a second dog. They promised some sort of hooking her up with someone to take care of the fucking things when she isn’t home. I was running late so I don’t know WTF last night was – she leaves them home alone all night to hook up maybe? What a shit show & if this happens again tonight I will be royally pissed. I don’t think I can work with two nights no sleep.

Why I don’t miss apartment living reason 1,001.

      • Sensei

Cool. And all the avatars changed.

      • rhywun

Moving within six months and my top requirement is no fucking dogs.

So back to NYC? I hear the Muslims are banning dogs there.

So back to NYC? I hear the Muslims are banning dogs there.

        Well played.

    • Pope Jimbo

They promised some sort of hooking her up

Don’t they realize that you don’t like girls and promises of a hookup are not the incentive they think?

    • Threedoor

There is a hobby ranch across the river in WA that has two zebras. They live in the barn most of the time and im not sure the owners have tried to ride them or not.

I would try if I had some.

      • Ownbestenemy

Which is…odd cause you looks to be the only one.

      • Ted S.

Sean has a similar but different avatar.

      • SDF-7

Sean has one — don’t know if it is new/fixed or an old one… since he’s always calling back to the late ’70s Tom Baker era and all.

At least mine is telling you to stop putting really old food in the fridge or something…

      • Ted S.

They, might be using Gravatar stuff. I think that’s the picture I used when I signed up. I’m not sure how to change it.

      • Sean

Yeah. Mine is my old one. Not the ever applicable two thumbs up.

      • Pope Jimbo

An old avatar of mine is now showing, but that is cool because I like the cat butt avatar.

  4. Ownbestenemy

I kinda like the new normal here. Like a grab bag of what will Glibs do now?

    Afternoon everyone.

    • rhywun

They’re are messing with us, aren’t they.

what do I look like now

    • mexican sharpshooter

      MegaKinnath?

      • kinnath

        Thanks. I needed that.

    • Tonio

It’s weird that my avatar didn’t change back to the one I’ve been using here forever. I’ve never used the cartoon crab thing; guessing that and other cartoons are randomly-assigned WP defaults.

Any avatar assignments you make during this period of upheaval may be undone when the plug-ins return.

  6. Raven Nation

Well, hell, now I need to see my avatar.

    @NYCMayor
Today, I’m releasing the City’s preliminary budget. After years of fiscal mismanagement, we’re staring at a $5.4 billion budget gap — and two paths.

One: Albany can raise taxes on the ultra-wealthy and the most profitable corporations and address the fiscal imbalance between our city and state.

The other, a last resort: balance the budget on the backs of working people using the only tools at the City’s disposal.

The first path matches a structural crisis with a sustainable and fair solution. I know where I stand.

New Yorkers voted for bold change and competent leadership. We will deliver both, and we look forward to partnering with Albany to protect working New Yorkers.

    • Sensei

And after the rich give their pound of flesh we will never increase spending. Pinky swear!

      • SDF-7

Just look at the Federal income tax after all… still only for the top one percent (or whatever it was) and only to help fund the war!

    • rhywun

address the fiscal imbalance between our city and state

Is that a threat? I am now more certain than ever that leaving the state is probably my next move.

PS. I don’t see “cut spending” anywhere in that delusional flapdoodle.

    • The Other Kevin

It’s so funny that he never mentioned any of that before the election.

      • rhywun

NYC mayors have been complaining for decades that they “get less for paying more”. Nobody believes it, of course. And it doesn’t matter that nobody believes it.

    • Ownbestenemy

Remember kids…if you have money, you aren’t a worker. You are evil.

    • Threedoor

      Option three.
      Cut spending?

  8. J. Frank Parnell

    Just checking out my avatar.

  9. Tonio

Okay, WebDom is at work. She told me to deactivate all the WP Plugins as a shotgun approach. That fixed the problems but as Sensei noted above (which I wouldn’t have, thanks) the avatars changed.

It’s way above my skillset to try to fix the avatars, so please “bear” with us until WebDom can fix this and any other issues.

Apparently, WP automatic plugin updates are the bane of our existence. But now I know how to fix this in the future.

    • SDF-7

It is a grizzly existence, but unlike our polar opposites at TOS — I think we’re a fundamentally forgiving bunch, Tonio.

      • JaimeRoberto (carnitas/spicy salsa)

Forgiving my ass. I want my panda flesh.

      • Threedoor

        Panda flesh.

        We don’t kink shame here.

        Much.

    • Mad Scientist

Now’s your chance to make everyone’s avatar a bear!

      • Tonio

While the trickster Tonio so wants to fuck with you all, the practical Tonio doesn’t want to exceed the scope of his authoritay. Also, if I demonstrate competence and initiative at WP admin, they’ll expect me to take on moar WP admin duties. I don’t want that. I’m happy wrangling writers, editing, and writing.

Plus I’m down on the farm with the boyfriend at the moment. This is my vacay time.

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

        down on the farm

Is THAT what you kids call it nowadays?

      • SDF-7

I guess Tonio knows how to keep ’em down on the farm….

      • Sensei

        You’re dating Bob Evans?

    • Sensei

Just as an FYI, I don’t believe the color coded “new post” is working. Not sure if that’s a plugin as well or default.

      • Tonio

Probably. There were a gazillion plug-ins.

      • rhywun

        There were a gazillion plug-ins.

I wonder if we really need so many. The only thing I really miss at this point is the indication of new comments.

The site is faster without them at least 🙂

    • Ted S.

But now I know how to fix this in the future.

      Shoot everyone at WordPress?

      • Tonio

        [thunderous applause]

    • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

I dislike having to provide any info to any website, but I grudgingly gave in to Gravatar. Now to see if my avatar stuck.

      • SarumanTheWoefullyIgnorant

        It worked. I like Sean’s.

It looks like whoever is at Gravatar is very very into 1950’s modern art.

  10. Sean

Fine, SGAmmo. Y’all win. I placed an order.

I’m such a victim of marketing.

The parade drawn criticism from the opposition because Brazil’s next general election, which will also elect the country’s president, will take place in October. Critics argue the tribute can be seen as early electioneering and a possible violation of campaign rules ahead of the election.

    Panties were twisted

But all the sweet talk in the world can’t change the fundamental truth. It isn’t just that everyone knows Rubio is only authorized to speak up to a point, and that ultimately it’s Trump who will call the relevant shots. In case there was any doubt, Rubio left Munich and immediately met with two of Europe’s most noxious right-wing populists, Hungary’s Victor Orbán and Slovakia’s Robert Fico. As Dalibor Rohac notes on the homepage today, what Rubio offered wasn’t a return to normal transatlantic relations but “Trumpism with a human face.”

Europe has finally learned the lesson that Trump is no aberration or blip, that America is the kind of place that ultimately cannot be trusted to elect reliable stewards for the free world, and that they’re all just going to have to plan accordingly.

The boys and girls at the Bulwark are in a tizzy.

    • Sensei

reliable stewards for the free world

Maybe the European taxpayer can step up?

      • Grumbletarian

I look forward to watching Europe pay for its own military defense and see how long the free shit lasts.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

      Fico knows the score.

I’ve met Robert Fico. He was at my dinner before my wedding. He’s no right-winger. He’s a commie.

    Fourscore:

I couldn’t read your earlier post today because of the squirrels goofing up the formatting. Imagine my surprise when I went back and read it. Either you or the Star Tribune are plagiarists!!!

Minnesota farmers are worried they won’t have enough hands to tend livestock and manage crops this year, a consequence of ongoing federal immigration enforcement in the state targeting undocumented workers from Latin America who keep U.S. agriculture churning.

While the thousands of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents who’ve descended on Minnesota have focused on the Twin Cities, rural communities are feeling their presence, too.

ICE has recently raided dairy farms, according to farmers and industry leaders, and crop growers are worried they won’t have enough temporary visa holders to work the fields come spring.

The immigration enforcement has created a climate of fear among both undocumented and documented workers, and made farmers unsure if they’ll survive the growing season.

    f

Wait. I guess you and the Strib said the exact opposite. If I was ICE, any farmer who complained about not being able to hire help would be treated as a known employer of illegals and audited.

If various businessmen started complaining to the journalos about how unfair it is for the IRS to demand to see receipts, wouldn’t that raise red flags galore about those businesses cheating on their taxes?

I am so completely uninterested in “supercars”. Good grief. Bring back light and simple and quick.

    Apropos of nothing-

That three wide “fuel save” roadblock the Toyotas pulled in the Daytona 500 made me want to shoot my teevee. Fuck those guys. That whole race was a fucking clown show.

    • Sensei

There is no “joy” in most modern super cars.

      They are just a “flex”.

  16. The Late P Brooks

    Well blow me down

“We have a very firm view that we won’t be providing assistance or repatriation,” Albanese told ABC News.

Thirty-four Australians released on Monday from a camp in northern Syria were returned to the detention center due to “technical reasons,” two sources told Reuters on Monday.

Dubbed “IS brides” by local media — though the cohort also includes children — they are expected to travel to Damascus before eventually returning to Australia, despite objection from ruling and opposition lawmakers.

A spokesperson for Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said Australia’s security agencies had been monitoring the situation in Syria, and said those who had broken the law would be prosecuted.

“People in this cohort need to know that if they have committed a crime and if they return to Australia they will be met with the full force of the law,” he said.

I would have expected the Australian government to welcome them home with a ticker tape parade.

  17. Pope Jimbo

    Oh, those rascally ICE agents!

•Jesus Flores was taken into custody by ICE outside his home in Brooklyn Center on Feb. 12.

•He was lured outside by female agents pretending to have car trouble and asking for help.

•Flores is undocumented and had been previously deported, but family says he’s hard-working, not dangerous and hoping he gets another chance.

If you bother to read the article, the victim was a gang member back in Mexico and has been deported twice.

ICE should have used transwomen to lure him out. At best, it would have been wonderful watching the cognitive dissonance of liberals as they try to condemn trans ICE agents. At best, if they ended up shooting the illegal, it would all have been hushed up.

    • Pope Jimbo

There are no end to the woes of this poor family. They can’t even hire a lawyer.

The family is reaching out to immigration lawyers, but due to his status and history, they haven’t found one to take on his case. Jesus had already been deported once, more than 15 years ago.

He remains undocumented. Lawyers have said it’s a long shot.

“That there’s not much they can do with the one deportation already and with another now,” said Miguel. “They say we’d be pretty much be wasting our money.”

    • Pope Jimbo

The family has started a GoFundMe campaign, in part to raise money to pay an immigration attorney, still hoping they can find one.

It’s also to help support the family’s expenses. Flores has two children with autism and two with special medical needs.

Local churches are also pitching in with food and household supplies.

Anyone want to bet that the autism and special medical needs are BS? Used to increase welfare payments?

I can understand their own church pitching in with food and household supplies, but why would other churches? Why help a member of a splitter branch of Christianity? They are heretics and going to hell. We don’t adhere to our proud traditions of religious intolerance anymore.
