Banjos and Sloopy are out today, so The Old Guy steps in.
Planning Board and Board of Trustees for the Gulch are having a joint meeting tonight to discuss our latest controversy: short term rentals (e.g., VRBO, AirBnB), how to zone and regulate. I suspect you know where I come out on this… But I’m running for office, so I have to be very polite and uber-reasonable. I am not a good politician. But I will have at least one good story to relate by the time my usual weekend Links roll by.
Birthdays of note today are unusually numerous, and include a creative who (unlike our modern morons) was the old-fashioned kind of liberal; a guy who inspired Sydney Sweeny’s white supremacy; a guy who actually had a Medal of Honor taken away from him; a rather, umm, unusual guy who was a bit of a flake; a guy who you can thank (or curse) for fake titties; a meaner and drunker Barney Rubble; a guy who rescued the bowtie industry; simply the greatest and most influential animator in cartoon history; the most famous cinematic pool player; a guy who enunciated the most important law behind the First Law of Thermodynamics; a man most famous for his neatness obsession; a pioneer rocker whose most famous song made me hungry; a guy whom I’ve been assured repeatedly (most notoriously by Time) was more Hitler than Hitler; a singer who could even talk out of tune; a guy with the most famous foot in boxing; the polar opposite of Attaturk; and a guy with really shitty taste in women.
And speaking of shitty taste… here’s some Links.
It’s not like the US targeting supposed drug-running boats was going to have any fallout or lead to escalation. Oh no, perish the thought. But I invoke the 48 hour rule, no idea who’s involved here.
I have no problem with us telling the Euros to go fuck themselves.
How about we stay the fuck out of this and let Israel handle their own neighborhood? I’m hoping that this is accurate.
Being an “influencer” ought to be an automatic disqualification.
“I’m Innocent, you’re Hitler!”
Texas Team Red is very, very happy to see this.
Given the sources, I have a slight suspicion that some key facts are left out of the story.
I just want to know his Glibs handle.
The New Sobriety racks up another victim. OK, no problem, drink more Finger Lakes wine.
This just seems delightfully anachronistic.
It’s hard to know what set me off on my love of jazz- maybe my Uncle Harold, who was a big band aficionado and played lots of those records when we were all living with my grandmother. Or maybe it was seeing The Fabulous Dorseys when I was slightly older. In any case, the Old Guy finds this to be three minutes of perfection.

Forecast: Wintery mix, but below the river most likey rain
Reality: 1.5-2 inches of snow and still dropping.
Could be worse…
““My office has contacted the State Department for more information, but it’s notable that this occurred in spite of ongoing Trump Administration negotiations with the Cuban regime,” Schultz said.”
Really?
Sounds like he knows nothink! NOTHINK!
“Senior advisers to President Donald Trump would prefer Israel strike Iran before the United States launches an assault on the country, according to two people familiar with ongoing discussions.”
So who knows?
I’d prefer we just stay the f out of it, especially since I would expect Israel to be perfectly capable of doing it on their own after Iran’s air defenses were decimated in the last go-round.
I get the “take down the shadow oil fleet to reduce income to Iran and Russia”… though the legality of imposing our sanctions on the rest of the world is always dicey (but that ship sailed long ago, pun only slightly intended). But I still don’t understand just what is so damned pressing that merits ramping up again right now. The protests / crackdown? Unfortunate — but not our problem either (internal issues are not, because if we decide they are…we’re fully locked into World Daddy mode. And I don’t want World Daddy Mode.)
This is why I shouldn’t start replying to people when I see their responses before I make it back to reading links. OMWC covered my pov just fine, sorry.
Happy birthday Matt Smith! Added points for the fez….
Morning all.. thanks for pinch hitting, OMWC.
Re: vacation rentals — I suppose it is another aspect of “you don’t really own your property”… not only do you have to pay rent (property tax), but everyone else can tell you what you can and cannot do with it. Communities and social structures are so much fun, aren’t they? The more you’re in one (like it or not), the less liberty you have — because someone, somewhere gets to make the case that you’re somehow impacting them. Yay!
I’ve said it before — and I keep thinking it… this sort of crap is why people used to go to the frontier to get away from established communities and structures. That we’re locked into a period in human development where the only frontiers aren’t really viable (space) and/or locked up by the biggest gangs with guns (Antarctic) is the lid on the pressure cooker…
And yes — I sincerely doubt you’re making campaign speeches on letting AirBnB folks rent their houses to strangers if they wish… because after all, that might undercut hotel fees… or foster the wrong people or whatever their problem would be in a college town…
One of our big issues is the LACK of available hotel rooms. So there’s no pushback on that account. The worry is more about groups of yoots having wild parties. Because if I were renting my house, I wouldn’t think of screening guests, right?
I’m sure Senator Blutarski and his agent Otter will pass the vetting process… 😉
More seriously… the only way I could see that being a concern is if someone is intentionally buying cheap crap properties to turn them into party hotels for visiting kids.
Which one would think they could do with a Motel 6 type setup as well. Or just do it completely off the books as a fly-by-night / underground restaurant style setup.
Send out RFPs to Wynn, MGM, and the Seneca for a casino resort.
Your town is kind of late to the anti-AirBnB party. At this pace the over saturation and ridiculous business practices will have killed them off before you get around to banning them.
“…ridiculous business practices…” this is why I quit using them. I don’t want to travel with my own sheets just to come and clean your property for you. At a hotel I can leave it a mess, and nobody cares. It’s all smoothed over with the Lincoln on the nightstand.
I don’t think a penny covers the annoyance anymore.
My cobalt blue town is going through the expected anti-Air-b-n-b phase now.
There seems to be plenty of hotels but the housing supply is drastically insufficient which is the excuse they’re using to push it.
Instead of, you know, regulations up the ass that are restricting housing growth.
The last house built in the Gulch was in 1975.
Your town is kind of late to the anti-AirBnB party.
Munich tried it. The first time I went to Oktoberfest I stayed in an AirBNB. I had booked it before Munich banned short-term rentals. The guy still let me stay but if anyone asked, “I’m a friend using his apartment.” I actually used that when one of his neighbors talked to me. Hopefully he didn’t get into trouble.
Later Munich backed off on the ban. Short-term rentals were allowed but with restrictions. The second time I went to Oktoberfest I stayed in an AirBNB. This one was legal, but, the owner asked me to also say “I’m a friend using her apartment.”
You need to spin it differently. “The Journal of Immigrant Assimilation – I think that’s the name – ran a study that proved AirBnBs are a principal source of jobs for immigrants and, for the second generation, a stepping stone to becoming employers and property owners who support progressive causes. Surely you don’t mean to be against immigrants do you?”
My hometown – a tourist trap – went through this years ago.
The main gripe was from the hotels and resorts who had to compete while paying extra taxes. Obviously the solution was not to get rid of the hotel taxes but somehow find a way to tax the short term rentals.
Eventually they did pass a tax on short term rentals, but I have heard that compliance isn’t that great.
My wife and I have been talking about where to run too.
Idaho is getting too nutty.
Wyoming? It has its own problems.
Maybe Idaho country, at least it has the fewest zoning restrictions in the state.
“I shot a man in al-Far’a, just to watch him die.”
Sounds like a terrible reason.
Well he didn’t want the man to get too far’a way.
Maybe he was snoring too loud?
Maybe he was just a boy named سو
Regarding Cuba…their territorial waters…dont take your speed boat into their waters.
I think we’d all agree with that — except maybe Evan… he’d find it rude.
Now that is just being mercurial.

With the Johnsons outboard no less!
Johnsons out for Cubans*

Oh, darlings dearest!
Why am I Hannibal Lector in all this, in how Clarice is confident *I* won’t go after her, now that Lector has escaped and is “having a friend for dinner?”
I’m having difficulty navigating this confusion, but am rather complimented. 🙂

Hell…. I just want more of it. Especially when it comes to overreaching EU / UK laws on internet companies because some one, somewhere in their countries access a service.
Can’t we just Atlas Shrug these assholes for a month and then let them come crawling back?
Yes! I would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
When I worked for a large German company, we had a trade show in Chicago for our North American customers. A bunch of our German/European colleagues showed up as well.
Everything started great, but then our German coworkers got their panties in a knot because the dumb little app that we created for the trade show was not GDPR compliant (which had just gone into effect)!
They were upset that the app didn’t store their data in some European data center. Instead we were storing it in our N American data center (aka Amazon). Can you even imagine?!?! Even though this data was trivial (alerts for upcoming talks, etc.), they demanded we fix it.
Well personally I didn’t have to fix it, some other devs in our office did. Still they stayed up late just to make sure that the data wasn’t soiled by being saved in America.
I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised. Working at that company opened my eyes to how jealous the Europeans are about our dominance in tech. Anything to drag down US firms to their level.
We have UK data that is similarly siloed off too. Probably also Italy but I haven’t worked with that team.
If we shut off all access to social media in Europe, we would hear the wailing from here.
Then Trump’s borders would start to collapse as every young female “influencer” rushes here to avoid being silenced on social media.
Uffda. That would be horrible. Better not shut off access now that I think of it.
Social media will be killed in the courts anyway because children.
If I had to bet, it’s another of those “hey, let’s liberate Cuba! How hard could it be?” plots that seem to happen every now and then.
In the Bay of the Pigs, the NeoCon is King?
To be clear, NOT a US state sponsored one. I seem to remember private plots busted in various stages of planning. Wasn’t there one recently where sumdoods were going to seize part of the island and stock it with sex slaves?
I thought that was Haiti?
I think that’s been all of Haiti since about 1804.
I get my Atlantic shithole islands confused sometimes.
Does Haiti even have a government that can be toppled?
More like some rubble you bounce around, rather than a structure than can be toppled.
“A truck driver who fell into an “obsessive and diabolical quest” for Cuba’s freedom was one of the four passengers killed on the Florida-registered speedboat that allegedly infiltrated its waters and was shot at by the country’s border guards.
Michel Ortega Casanova “became so obsessed” with the plot that he and the three others killed on the stolen vessel “didn’t think about the consequences nor their own lives,” according to his brother, Misael.”

Open border invasions only go one way, Casanova. (Alternate take… “Stop trying to penetrate there, Casanova!”)
More seriously… just how stupid are people that they think they can invade a country with 4 people and not get shot by said country’s military in most cases? Especially dictatorships?
When your brain is broken, there is no more seriousness
+1 Cuba Libre
A Cuba Libre was my go to drink when I was underage.
Just sophisticated enough to convince the waitress that I wasn’t a kid, easy enough that she didn’t card me to avoid making some complicated foo-foo drink.
“LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A South Oldham High School cafeteria employee was arrested and charged with attempting to sexually abuse a 17-year-old girl.
According to an arrest citation, 27-year-old Michael Couch was arrested Feb. 20 and charged with attempted sodomy and procurement and promoting the use of a minor by electronic means.
Court documents state Couch was aware of how old the victim was when he made plans over Snapchat to meet up with her.”
So it’s “abuse” only because she’s 17?
+10 years. Good collar.
“ The age of consent in Kentucky is generally 16 years old, meaning individuals under 16 are deemed legally incapable of consenting to sexual acts. Sexual activity with a 16 or 17-year-old is illegal if the other party is at least 10 years older, according to KRS 510.020. ”
That’s a stupid law.
It’s good to have a stagger in the ages at least they did that sort of ok.

If Israel doesn’t start another war, Trump will negotiate something exactly like the JCPOA. Then brag about it for years.
A career in chemistry doesn’t look good. Maybe he should run for office.

“May” can do a lot of heavy lifting there.
They “may” also arm them with warheads that contain secret Star Trek style replicators that “may” make monkeys fly out of your butt.
Nudist clubs are probably the epitome of “I’d never belong to one that would have me as a member.”, frankly.

“oh no…… anyway….”
I remember when Tim Thomas didn’t want to visit the Obama-era White House.
He, of course, was a racist monster for refusing to go.
Something that has been normal for decades is all of a sudden a crisis because of “the current political climate” aka Trump did it. There is a disturbing number of people in our country who have gone batshit crazy.
I bet they wouldn’t have dared call the US Olympic basketball teams a bunch of monkeys if they had shown up.

I think you’re too old to get a reaction.
Not true! I can elicit a disgusted sneer with the best of them!

I know my love of jazz, especially cool, comes from my mother, who played trumpet in her high school band when Kind of Blue came out.
Her other musical love, classical, is crap. Cheap, maudlin, mawkish, bombastic tripe. No better than Phil Collins or TayTay.
Trolling the Mozart fans is a very niche hobby.
It didn’t hurt Falco.
Eat me, I’m a danish!
Trufax:
When classical musicians want to turn their brain off, they play jazz.
I had a friend who played in the local symphony, and I would give him crap about spending time with his “Beethoven cover band.”
Yes, because waiting for some dude standing in front of you to waving a stick and tell you how to do your job speaks to intellectual strength.
“Now, once more, but with feeling…”
Just telling you the literal truth.
I was never into that, so it did cut down on my socialization/networking with my fellow musicians. I don’t think that in particular cut short my career, though my place in the social circles did have a definite influence, especially with the path I wanted to follow.
Ahh, not trolling, just a typical jazz fan being smug, gotcha. The OG hipsters!
Classical never came up with something as cultured as “Jazz hands”.
It should be trivial to whip up a sciencey-historical looking website claiming “jazz hands” were stolen from Minstrel shows and therefore the raciest racist thing since the Bellamy Salute.
I’d be entertained.

My experience with non-native English speakers is that English sarcasm is something they struggle with – absolutely
I struggle mightily to explain everyday sarcastic phrases to my Japanese friends. Even when I explain the scenario it is used and why it’s “humorous” they just stare at me with a confused look.
I am pretty sure many Europeans do not have the struggles of Japanese.
Even after 50 years I have to be careful using humor with my wife. A misunderstanding could /would result in cold shoulder at inner and beyond.

i mean as long as you still get fed…
Well, it didn’t evolve as a text-based coding system.
Now I’m wondering if English’s lack of tonality gave it room for other vocal signals.
I’m taking a short break at the cafe. At the next table, during my five minute break, the conversation had three “problematic” and four “patriarchy.”
I am living in a parody.

If it wasn’t opening folks up to more hassle than it is worth, I’d really hope for someone to yell “BINGO!” about now.
Ask if they like their coffee, mention that it’s from a new “ethically sourced plantation” and see if there’s a brainlock.
We’re putting people on the Moon?
Perfect!
I’ve got $5 on “heteronormativity” coming up next.
The U here has a botanic garden that was historially called “Plantations” which of course got changed recently but every once in a while the old, problematic name still surfaces, to my amusement.
Mrs. TOK has to deal with it too. Roller derby tends to attract very liberal people. She and 3-4 other women are not libs. She just wants to skate, so she just tunes out that sort of talk. Unfortunately that makes them think she’s of the same opinion.
There are a few 80’s musicians who speak out about this. To them all this conformity is boring and tedious. I 100% agree.
Nothing a flame thrower wouldn’t cure.
“Progressive “Squad” Rep. Rashida Tlaib sparked outrage for repeatedly chanting “KKK” as Republicans cheered “USA” during President Trump’s State of the Union address Tuesday night.
The Michigan Democrat was caught in a new clip mockingly jeering the far-right hate group’s moniker to controversial ally Rep. Ilhan Omar as her Republican colleagues erupted in thunderous applause and support for Trump inside the House chamber.”

Did she?
 It makes sense for both sides to chant for the organizations they helped found or support, doesn’t it?
“Rep. Ilhan Omar said one of the guests she invited to the State of the Union address on Tuesday was arrested and “forcibly removed” from the House gallery — as she slammed the “heavy-handed” Capitol Police response.
Omar (D-Minn.) claimed software engineer Aliya Rahman, who was dragged out of her vehicle while driving to a doctor’s appointment during a Minnesota anti-immigration protest last month, was hauled out of the House gallery after standing up “silently” during President Trump’s address….
Capitol Police confirmed Rahman was arrested on an unlawful conduct charge, as reported by NBC News, but Omar blasted the police response — branding it “heavy-handed.”
Rahman, who could face up to six months in prison and a fine of up to $500 for the misdemeanor, claimed the sergeant-at-arms told her the reason she was being hauled out of the State of the Union was that she was standing up.”

“Paramount Studios rolled out the red carpet for their upcoming horror sequel “Scream 7” on Wednesday, only to be disrupted by pro-Palestine protesters…
One of the signs read, “Cancel Paramount +” while another sign read, “Paramount has a blacklist of actors who criticize Israel,” with others supporting former Scream star Melissa Barrera, who was fired in 2023 for her support of Palestine.
The second sign was referring to a November report in Variety that revealed the studio kept a list of actors and actresses they deemed to be, “overly antisemitic,” “xenophobic,” or “homophobic.”
A Deadline report added that the protest was organized by Entertainment Labor for Palestine, CODEPINK LA, Musicians for Palestine, and Jewish Voice for Peace-Los Angeles.”

It’s OK. Only 10 people were attending the premiere.
I’m so confused. Is “overly homophobic” goodthought or badthought now?
Devastating.

does anyone still wear suits?
I’m wearing a birthday suit right now….
And you aren’t in Florida?
That’s what I’m wearing under my work clothes.
I have to. And I look about as good as Senator Fetterman.
One of the great downsides of losing ~ 30 lbs is my lovely made-to-measure suits do not fit and may, in fact, be beyond tailoring (i.e., the back pockets would end up touching each other). Once I feel my weight is stable we’ll see if that’s the case.
So, yes, people still wear suits.
I see people with the basting stitches in their jacket vents all the time. Makes me nuts.
I love wearing suits. Put one on over a polo shirt for casual, wear it with a tie if one wants to get laid easily, they are great.
Never trust a man in a suit.

Was his passing tragic for those who loved him? Absolutely. There is no denying that. But he was not assassinated, and words being accurate matters. It was a death by gun violence. That is an issue here in the country that we should all be on the same page about addressing.”

If i squint and ignore all the other words in the definition it is clearly what I say it is.
Oh, and I make up what the definition is.
That whole thing is junior-high level drama. Both sides are acting like spoiled brats.
I want no part of it.
This is the best choice.
Progressives just can’t help demonstrating what assholes they are. It’s the core of their collection of personality defects.
“a person in a political position.”
So neither MLK,Jr. or Malcom X were assassinated?
Wind the trolls up by saying they were executed.
MLK and Malcom X too right?.
Should have refreshed before I typed.

“Back in June, Kleinstreuer desperately justified barbaric beagle experiments, like infesting 400 puppies with ticks at the University of Missouri, telling NPR that animal studies are “still very important and often scientifically justified” and can’t be phased out “overnight.”
Shockingly, radical left-wing groups like PETA and the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM) rushed to her defense, applauding her for supposedly “prioritizing animal-free, human-relevant research.”
PETA gushed on social media that they are “grateful” to Kleinstreuer for championing this move, even as she doubled down on defending the very tests they claim to oppose.”

That’s why they lobbied against legal weed for decades.
Yep. They still are. They managed to get McConnell to kill it, as of this November unless someone undoes his damage. And there is a concerted campaign of BS continuing in media to make ban seem reasonable.

What do they do? Drugs, I suppose.
Or video games. Lots of that.
From what Pie posts here they spend their time “mewing.”
Do I want to know…?
Mewing is a technique involving proper tongue posture—resting the entire tongue against the roof of the mouth, keeping lips sealed, and breathing through the nose—with the goal of improving facial structure, jawline definition, and overall oral health. It originated from orthotropics, a concept developed by British orthodontist Dr. John Mew and popularized by his son, Dr. Mike Mew.
While proponents claim mewing can reshape the jaw, improve breathing, and enhance facial symmetry, scientific evidence supporting significant skeletal changes in adults is lacking. Experts agree that adult bones are mature and unlikely to remodel substantially from posture alone. Any visible changes are likely due to improved posture, soft tissue shifts, or weight loss rather than bone restructuring.

“A special education aide in the Edmonds School District has been charged with multiple counts of child rape after prosecutors alleged he groomed and sexually abused a deaf girl he had tutored for years, beginning when she was about 10 or 11 years old.
King County prosecutors charged Roberto Rodriguez with first, second, and third-degree rape of a child and communication with a minor for immoral purposes, according to charging documents. The alleged abuse spans December 2020 through January 2026, prosecutors said. Rodriguez is listed in the district’s staff directory as a paraeducator at Edmonds-Woodway High School. District officials said he has been placed on administrative leave and will be barred from district property.”

The number of students in the Minneapolis school district has been plummeting since the Rona. The scores of the kids that still go have dropped.
They are going to get even more money now from the state.
The number of kids in a district can drop to zero and the teacher’s union will still demand (and get) more money. None of them will ever be fired either.
The money will increase and the number of students in government schools will continue to decrease.
Even ‘conservative’ Idaho keeps adding to the ed budget 50-100 million more every year.

“Where will the working people live if all the houses are turned into short term rentals?”
I heard that one a lot in Livingston. Also people in Bozeman fretting about wild party house antics.
I had friends who had a little air bnb. It seemed like an awful lot of work, totally aside from the part where it was about 100 miles away.
I think a strategic Air BnB could be a good idea. A relative used to have a vacation cabin on a lake. If AirBnB was a thing in the 90’s, they could have rented it out the 6 most popular weeks of the year and covered all the upkeep and taxes on the property, with some left over.
And news flash – when you own a cabin on a lake, you don’t want to be there the 6 most popular weekends. Traffic is bad, everything is noisy and crowded.
When Air BnB started this is what it was. People renting out properties in destination locations. Vacation rentals, properties near Universities during orientation, properties near major hospitals and the like. The problems started happening when it became the new sexy thing in real estate investing. People figured out that you could get a significant increase in rents, with less restrictive laws governing the relationship with your customers, and started peddling seminars about how to turn your rental property into an Air BnB gold mine.
They weren’t exactly lying, but they were engaging in a lot of puffery and cherry picked examples. This coincided with increased competition from the Wall Street types in the ordinary rental market and convinced a lot of investors to buy properties in slightly higher end neighborhoods thinking that the short term rental returns would justify the higher priced property. And again, it worked fine at first, but like any new market the initially high returns drew in large numbers of participants and the market became over saturated and because the booking companies tended to take a very hands off approach, customer service became very hit or miss.
In other words it’s like any new industry a boom followed by oversaturation, decline, and eventually finding its real level.
We rented one abnb.
A hotel would have been much less expensive.
*ties kiwifruit to belt*
Early on I had some fantastic AirBnBs that seemed to be legit rich people homes in great locations for cheap. The ones I stay at these days are still a much better value than hotels, but seem to be rental property corps.

When roadblocks, explosions and gunshots broke out after the killing of Mexico’s most powerful drug lord, people who rushed to their cellphones for information found social media posts depicting a country in chaos.
The Jalisco New Generation Cartel responded to the massive Mexican army operation to capture Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” on Sunday with an even bigger wave of retaliatory violence in some 20 states. More than 70 people were killed.
But in addition to real accounts of death and destruction and the warnings from governments for their citizens to shelter in place, the internet was flooded with disinformation — fake videos and images generated by artificial intelligence. They were designed to stoke fear, Mexican officials said.
Unprecedented.
That 70 people number includes the initial military operation and reprisal attacks against military (Mexican national guardsmen). How many dead were ordinary people?

Baretta trying to buy Ruger
The parent company of Italian gun manufacturer Beretta is launching a proxy fight to take control of Sturm, Ruger and Co., America’s largest firearms maker, sources familiar with the matter have told The Post.
Insiders said the 500-year-old European firm, which has built a 10% stake in Hartford, Conn.-based Ruger, wants to nominate four executives to join the nine-member board — a move designed to gain more control over the main US rival to Smith & Wesson.
Sources said the nominees included William Franklin Detwiler, managing partner of Fernbrook Capital Management; Mark DeYoung, the founding CEO of Vista Outdoor; Frederick Disanto, CEO of Ancora Holdings; and Michael Christodolou, the founder of Inwood Capital Management.

The most damning proof is no proof at all
The top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee is asking the Justice Department for answers after NPR’s investigation revealed Epstein files related to President Trump are missing from the public record.
In a letter first shared with NPR, ranking member Robert Garcia, D-Calif., is asking Attorney General Pam Bondi to explain why what appear to be dozens of pages of interviews and interview notes related to allegations of sexual abuse against President Trump were not among three million pages released in recent months.
“We are witnessing a White House cover-up of serious allegations against the president by a survivor,” Garcia said in a statement to NPR. “We demand Attorney General Pam Bondi come clean about why these documents are being hidden, comply with our legally binding subpoena by sharing all records, and tell the American people if their president is under investigation for allegations of sexual assault.”
NPR’s previous reporting found internal FBI and Justice Department outline documents related to allegations from a woman who, according to documents within the database, claimed that around 1983, when she was around 13 years old, Jeffrey Epstein introduced her to Trump, “who subsequently forced her head down to his exposed penis which she subsequently bit. In response, Trump punched her in the head and kicked her out.”
Trump should have whipped his dick out at the State of the Union so they could check for bite marks.
OFFS this shit is getting ridiculous.
Ratfuckers were on TV just now complaining that Donald had no praise for the “survivors” which I guess they brought to the SOTU. They are gonna ride Epstein shit all the way to the next election, I guess. Why not, when they have nothing else.
Lost in all this is that the “survivors” were accepting money for sex, which doesn’t exactly make them sympathetic victims.
From now on, wikipedia can source “Cheeto Hitler orally raped and beat a 13 tear old” to certified “reliable source” NPR.

“The American people demand transparency and accountability, and any further delay by the Department continues to deny justice to the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes,” he wrote. “DOJ must specify the exact grounds for the withholding of FBI interviews containing specific allegations against President Trump, as well as provide an update on the status of any ongoing investigations into allegations of sexual assault against President Trump.”

The president’s State of the Union address may have broken the record for the longest speech of its type, but the Governor of California’s Press Office observed another poor statistic that has happened on Trump’s watch. She’s saying what they want to hear: “I’m becoming more libertarian by the day”. She’s not, it’s just that at this time her political beliefs happen to line up with “libertarian” beliefs. If the Dems return to power, we’ll get right back to coercing social media platforms and “disinformation boards”, and she’ll be fine with it because it’s here side.

So, going back to yesterday morning and NA‘s contentions about rights – speech vis-a-vis property in particular.
The entire Bill of Rights is guarding against government encroachment. There’s not one damn thing in there that is about one person infringing on the rights of another. That should be a huge, fucking clue. As (((Jar noted, property rights are a collection of things, such that a renter of your property does not impinge your ownership of it. Yes property taxes pay for a whole lot more than simply securing your right to your property, but you can’t get the securitization of those rights for free. As for the rest of your rights, those aren’t guaranteed against anything but government infringement (which of course is the circular argument about why they are rights in the first place).
Like I said initially, this seems like a definition argument, like the commie disticton between “private property” and “personal property.” I’m sure it’s perfectly coherent with a group with shared terms and paradigms, but whrn using such terms of art in a non-specialist environment, you can’t expect all interlochutors to conform to previous agreements which they were not party to.
Philosophically speaking personal property has a clearer basis than real property. Personal property ownership can generally be traced back down a chain of owners to the person who created it, or at least to a company that had a contract with that person under which the company owned their product. Yes this is tangled up with law and with government in various ways, but while governments ideally enforce contracts and protect property the contracts themselves exist outside of government. If you stipulate self ownership, which I think can fairly be stipulated as axiomatic, that logically extends to ownership of your actions, and their products. It is not a stretch to conclude that this includes the right to sell, gift or exchange those products, and further that those who buy, receive, or exchange for the product only do so because they understand that they are receiving the entirety of ownership.
Real property is different. In most cases the land pre-existed people, much less government generally or the specific government controlling it today. Land ownership ultimately traces back to raw power. Some person, or State, claimed the land and had the power to defend it from other claimants and each person taking ownership of it down the chain of title does so as a beneficiary of that power to defend it against those claims. I understand and share the desire not to have to pay annually to retain ownership of my land, but pretending land ownership is possible outside the legal framework of a State seems simply untrue.
I’m sure it’s perfectly coherent with a group with shared terms and paradigms
You mean like the Anglo-sphere? Yeah, I would say so. What is clear is that none of it is universal. Way too many different groups of humans have lived together without any of it.
the legal framework of a State
Yep, the idea that the LAWS are somehow not a part of GOVERNMENT has got to be one of the dumbest things about anarchist theory.
Mmmm, no. More like the set of people who arbitrarily appeal to practicality when it suits them but disregard it otherwise. Because you need to agree on which times you’re going to make practicality matter and which times you’re going to gloss over it. To someone who hasn’t agreed to where and when to handwave, it looks like you’re just pulling differences out of your ass.
Egghead elitists in the mirror
Harvard’s deep connections to one of the world’s most infamous sexual criminals is disgusting but not surprising. The University has long been a bastion for elite power, and the new documents only widen the cracks in an increasingly unstable ruling class. As the scandal rears its head, it’s time for Harvard to have a serious reckoning with its own elitism.
This past year, the Trump administration has made its mission to delegitimize, attack, and destroy higher education. S. May Mailman, Trump’s former deputy assistant, devised many strategies to threaten Harvard’s federal funding. The Department of Health and Human Services, under the control of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. ’76, moved to block Harvard from receiving future research grants. Pete B. Hegseth, Secretary of Defense, recently severed academic ties between Harvard and the military. These stories display a glaringly obvious similarity: every member of the Trump administration mentioned above attended Harvard.
It’s the epitome of the absurd irony that is becoming American fascism. The university under constant attack by an increasingly authoritarian government is the same university that propagates such authoritarianism. Harvard can claim that it is anti-Trump, but Harvard and Trump both occupy the same ivory tower.
When Harvard took the Trump administration to court over federal funding cuts, it ostensibly attempted to bury this fact. To the outside observer, a seemingly simple binary emerged: Harvard is the elite done right — the intellectual, the culturally-competent, the politically-reasonable. Trump is the elite run amok — the dirty-dealing, the democracy-destroying, the bigot.
Look out, kid. That ditch is full of dead people.
Hard to pick just one derp.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, however, seemed to have little sympathy for the homeowners.
“If Mr. Pung wanted to get the maximum value of the house … to cover that debt, he could have sold it himself and gotten the fair market value,” she said. “So having chosen not to do that, forcing the government to sell his house, I guess I’m worried about suggesting that he can come back after the fact and say, ‘No, you didn’t do enough to get the maximum price.'”
He inconvenienced his rulers. They should have just kept it all.

Agreed.
“It’s the economy stupid” is true but I think who a presidential candidate may appoint to the SCOTUS is at least equally important.
Instead of rational, strategic thinking about their own best. interest the majority of voters think the election is a stupid fucking popularity contest.
I guess it was the principle of the thing for Mr. Pung. I remember a home in our neighborhood- in a more upscale section, had a pool, was nicely landscaped and exterior looked great. Owner got in some financial difficulty, mortgage not paid, house went to foreclosure sale. Stubborn (and perhaps embarrassed) he let it be sold at sheriff’s sale and the amount owing on the mortgage was only about 50% of the fmv. Such sales are usually below the radar of the average person. By the time everyone was aware, it was too late to bid. I had always admired the house and would have made him a fmv offer if he had only put it up for sale on the open market. No idea what he got, but the current owner said he “got a real bargain.”
forcing the government to sell his house
I’m sure he walked in and put a gun to their head. She might challenge Roger Taney as the all time worst SC justice.
Finally, Assistant Solicitor General Frederick Liu, arguing in support of the county, got this question from Justice Elena Kagan, who asked what would happen if counties were forced to pay much more than the price received at auction.
“So what would it mean if we said that the measure was fair market value with respect to foreclosure sales?” she asked.
Liu said the impact would be massive.
“It would spell the end of tax sales in America,” he replied. “And at the end of the day, who does this hurt? It hurts other taxpayers who are actually paying their taxes because the shortfall has to come from real taxpayers.”
The end of tax sales? Oh lordy what a catastrophe.
… the shortfall has to come from real taxpayers.
Fuck you, cut spending.
End property taxes.
Problem solved.
End the income tax.
“We cant. How else will they get money?”
It isn’t about the revenue, they have admitted that. It is too much power and they absolutely cannot be trusted with it. End it.
But the children!
More than half of my property tax and state income tax goes to government schools.
If they only eliminated that they could end the property tax and cut state income taxes at the same time.
Eliminate the children?
You’re still going to pay for government whether via property tax, sales tax or income tax or even a head tax. I don’t really think ya’ll are true anarchists.

Do you have a spare bedroom or large closet to hide her in?
Can you take out a life insurance policy on someone you have no contact with naming yourself as beneficiary?
Put a bag over her head?
I’m sure someone would pay a monthly subscription for a pixelated nekkid woman.
Just poke those lips with a pin and she will fly off sputtering like a leaky balloon.
R.J. – “…it’s not in their DNA.”
I am going to use that.
I am sure most if not all of y’all get it when I use the term ‘herd animals’. Sadly most other people do not understand that I use it as a pejorative and even the ones that do do not understand to what degree I consider it a pejorative.

That’s hat prediction markets are for.
If you can get somebody to take the other side of the wager.
Bump in the road
For Stellantis, 2025 was a financially painful year, with big losses, triggering the elimination of profit sharing for unionized workers in the U.S. But newly minted CEO Antonio Filosa insists a turnaround is underway, led by the return of the Jeep Cherokee and powered by Ram trucks with Hemi V-8 engines.
Fourth-quarter and full-year earnings were a bit of a bloodbath. Stellantis reported a net loss of $23.8 billion in the second half of 2025, as well as a hefty operating loss, to finish the year in the red with a total net loss of $26.2 billion. Losses in North America ($2.2 billion for the year of which $1.4 billion was the cost of tariffs) means workers will not get profit sharing for the first time in 15 years. Workers at GM were eligible for up to $10,500 and Ford’s payout was up to $6,780. Stellantis did not pay shareholders a dividend. But Filosa says the company will return to profitability in 2026.
No profit sharing for the union? That’s not fair. They should strike.
Huh. I wonder why the losses were so high.
The usual Dodge quality.
Dry snark… I suspect the loss was entirely due to government “green new deal” bullshit. How many thousands were they losing on every EV again?
It had to have been at least the $7500 tax credit.
They have had some major problems with the new wagoneers from what I’ve heard as well. Even with so many of them in the 70-90,000 range.
WaPo headline: Conservatives want schools to teach this strict life path they say avoids poverty
The path? Graduate high school and get a full-time job before getting married and having kids
It’s sensible advice that works out for most people, but since it isn’t universal, it’s “strict”.

And I guess we’ll just ignore the much higher rates of poverty among single mothers, who are more prevalent among non-whites. That explains most racial wealth inequality.
And hell, why not also ignore the role welfare laws play in encouraging men to forgo marriage and abandon their children.
I tapped out where the article was basically about to claim that minorities are incapable of following this path.
The left is truly evil.
The left is truely evil.
Stay on the plantation!

Stellantis previously warned it would incur about $26 billion in charges as it backtracks on its timeline and investment in electric vehicles whose demand has slowed compared with growth projections at the time the decisions and investments were made.
But Comrade Biden assured us…
1. Be a stupid Euroweenie
2. Buy an American car company known for truck and muscle cars, demand they go all electric.
3.
4. Profit!
Just out new tires on all the cruiser bikes that were in storage. Tires went to Hell. Sadly I will not get to ride them this weekend, I now have plans. Weather is beautiful in North Texas today.
Out=put.
Stupid autocorrect.
Im still struggling to even find this terrible joke Trump said about the women’s hockey team.
He said if he invited the men’s hockey team to the white house, he would have to invite the women’s team too.
They got pissed and said they wouldn’t go if they were invited.
