Would be better if it were actually Bluegrass. Lyrically, the song just works in the genre. Ozzy in general makes for excellent covers or the basis for other artistic works (for you that remember that interpretive dance version I posted way back when.)
Monday: Good.
Rest of the week: Absolutely nothing.
Since there’s nothing sky-wise to talk about, have a Fat Electrician rant about why/how Subway sucks:
Aries: Justice – Justice. This is usually seen as a good thing, but for some of you…
Taurus: 8 of Swords – Bad news, violent chagrin, crisis, censure, power in trammels, conflict, calumny, sickness.
Gemini: Knight of Coins – Utility, serviceableness, interest, responsibility, rectitude.
Cancer: 10 of Swords reversed – Advantage, profit, success, favor –but either short-lived or with too high a price.
Leo: 7 of Cups reversed – Desire, will, determination, project.
Virgo: The Hermit – Prudence, circumspection, treason, dissimulation, roguery, corruption.
Libra: 4 of Swords reversed – Wise administration, circumspection, economy, avarice, precaution, testament.
Scorpio: Knight of Cups reversed – Trickery, artifice, subtlety, swindling, duplicity, fraud.
Sagittarius: The Hierophant – Marriage, alliance, captivity, servitude, mercy and goodness, inspiration.
Capricorn: Page of Wands – Faithful parter nor subordinate, an envoy, a postman.
Aquarius: 3 of Coins reversed – Mediocrity, puerility, pettiness, weakness.
Pisces: 4 of Wands – Country life, refuge, repose, concord, harmony, prosperity, peace.
I was listening to someone cover “Nothing Else Matters” in classical guitar style, and the Spanish influence made me suddenly WANT a stomptastic percussive flamenco cover. Unfortunately this was as close as I could find and only the middle minute comes close to what I want to see/hear. Still, the song really supports this style.
Needs moar fan.

Sagittarius: The Hierophant – Marriage, alliance, captivity, servitude, mercy and goodness, inspiration.
Moved, left no forwarding address.
I had better huddle under Gemini’s or Pisces’s umbrellas.

*Aquarius: 3 of Coins reversed – Mediocrity, puerility, pettiness, weakness.*
Well, I am unsupervised this weekend…
“ Cancer: 10 of Swords reversed – Advantage, profit, success, favor –but either short-lived or with too high a price.”
I’ve never paid for it, and I’m not about to start.
I notice you didn’t argue with the short-lived prognostication.
🤣😂
Cancer: 10 of Swords reversed – Advantage, profit, success, favor –but either short-lived or with too high a price.

Goddamn *accuracy!* Should hear April 9 about onboarding for the remote test scoring gig. I’ve got the 11th set up for the switch to the main Meijer, with hopes to get onboard *there* with a few days between then and the 20th, when actual test scoring is supposed to begin. Probably gonna end up working every Saturday with the 6-8wk contract, but possibly every-other Sat if scheduling allows. (May do every Sat, regardless. *shrug*)
Let me tell you about Subway. Well, it’s dreadful. Even if they did a dramatic ‘re-conceptualization,’ it’s still by far the worst. Hands down.
HOWEVER. In Korea, where sandwiches go to die, they were rare oases of normalcy, where a passable sandwich could regularly be found. I haven’t had one since, but it was pretty embarrassing for this sandwich lover to stoop to its level, but it was by far the best available.
I worked at Schlotzky’s Deli in high school and I got spoiled. (It’s no longer with us. Sad.) Their turkey original on jalapeno cheese (no tomato) would be part of my Last Meal if it could be magicked into my cell. Their BBQ chicken pizza’d be on the menu, as well. It’s what I judge other iterations on. (Others fall below such standard of ‘excellence.’) Some comfort, nostalgia food to it, but *damn* that place was good.
Schlotzkys is still here, if not the one near you.
Huh! They did go bankrupt, I remember, but didn’t know they were bought and joined w Cinnabon?! (Odd, odd pairing, IMO.)
I won’t make the trek to Cinci for it, but I’m glad they’re still around, somewhere.
Yeah, I don’t need a fat electrician to tell me that Subway sucks. It’s like that scene in Seinfeld where Kramer pulls all the ingredients out of some sandwich he was eating and throws them around in frustration.

Hm, I wasn’t expecting a trip to Minnesota this week…
Fourscore is going to steal your bees.

Toyota Tacomas are famous for high resale value. This has people scratching their heads over the price one woman says she accepted from CarMax for her well-maintained 2021 Tacoma. It’s thousands less than they believe she could’ve gotten on the private market.
Summer (@summerardon) posted a TikTok that has drawn nearly 410,000 views. In it, she walks viewers through the process of selling her 2021 Toyota Tacoma TRD Off Road 4×4 to CarMax, from pulling onto the lot to getting her check at the end of a long afternoon.
The video quickly became a debate about convenience versus cash, and trade-ins versus Facebook Marketplace.
OMG ur doin it wrong!
I bought my truck through C-max, and it was a pleasant, easy experience. They offered me X value for my old truck, but I had time and sold it on the private market for X+30%. If I didn’t have the time, or just didn’t want to deal with it, trading it in would have been fine. I also pay someone to mow my lawn, and I could do that for free, but in that case I want the convinience.
Trade offs, how do they work?
CarMax needs to turn a profit? Reminds me of when I worked at Play It Again Sports and people lamented at getting low buyout offers.
Wholesale-retail, what’s the difference?
Having worked the used book business we’d have complaints about our buying prices. One customer came back a few weeks later, brought a book up, said he’d sold us that book for X and we had it priced at something outrageous. I explained to him we still had the book and might never sell it. Then he understood the difference.
I would reference that new paperback prices tracked movie prices. Once you bought the ticket you can’t get your money back if you didn’t like the movie. Movie and paperback provided 3 hours of entertainment but at at least we paid cash for your used book,
Wait… You mean a merchant buying an item to resell it will pay less than the end user they were going to sell it to would pay? OMG! Next thing you’ll tell me scarcity increases prices and competition lowers them!
Sit down. I have something to tell you.
Affordability Crisis!!11!1!!
Trade offs, how do they work?
But resellers should have to pay full tilt retail. Otherwise they’re ripping you off!
Speaking of which, I used to watch those two bozos from Iowa once in a while, whatever they called that show. It drove me nuts watching people say stuff like “I know I’m selling my treasures to somebody who appreciates them and will give them a good home.”
No, you dope. They’re going to sell off that that junk as quickly as they can, presumably for more than they gave you.
I have told my son to call an estate sale company when I die, as there will be a zillion little things to deal with (I like stuff) and unless he wants to spend what amounts to a full time job listing them on eBay, it will not be worth his time.
Same with me but instead of the estate buyer, donate everything to a charity store. Right now I’m helping a friend in assisted living that kept a warehouse full of ‘collectibles’. He had no kids, his brothers/sisters are mostly gone. It’s down to a charity that is willing to haul the sellables away, anything left that won’t burn will go in the dumpster.
He had 3 bowling trophies that his late brother had won 50 years ago. Trying to see if the local bowling alley, where they were won, would like them to put on a shelf. Maybe?
4x+, that sounds like something that would look cool in a bar. Dunno how to get said trophies to a suitable bar.
I watched that show too, they paid outrageous prices for junk and pretended that there was a market for a rusty oil can.
I’ll defend American Pickers. That and Pawn Stars. The channel has tremendous say into what items appear and I’m sure into what gets bought/sold etc, and I defer with the prices, cuz I know nothing:
Turning little, seemingly little things into short, little historical snaps is a good way for ‘new’ attention spans, mine included, and the buy/sell veneer is a good way to sell interest to viewers who otherwise wouldn’t care.
I despise hate the acting and family bits and whatever, but past that, itand the Americana of Pickers is good, simple fun. Reminds me of places Dad’d sometimes take me to ‘for’ work. At making such things interesting for folk, and getting submissions rather than having to produce actual items, History did a remarkably good job w their budget. I haven’t watched the Dan Akroyd nor all the other ones they’re putting out, cuz they look like shit. Me no trusty.
Our friends are moving to Florida full time a bit sooner than planned (landlord is selling their place here), so they suddenly have to downsize.
They’re using these guys
https://www.caringtransitions.com/services/downsizing-decluttering/downsizing
They’ll take everything – you can literally leave things hanging in closets – then sell what they can for a 30% cut and get rid of the rest.
Seems like a great service.
“They’ll take everything”
Hell, I’ve got neighbors like that too.
When my FIL died, we used someone like that in Sun City, AZ. Just called them, had the real estate agent give them a key, and they sent us a check.
*sigh*
Why did I forget it was a holiday? I went out to buy hex keys and torx bits and wondered why everything was closed. Cost me my parking space.
I’m not happy.
Hey UCS, it’s Easter.
can someone explain why Easter moves from year to year?
Perhaps E.H. could.
First Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox. So in a way, a form of lunacy.
What’s the moon got to do with the resurrection?
“What’s the moon got to do with the resurrection?”
It raises the tides, it raises Christ?
NO IT IS NOT EASTER IS NEXT WEEK
Look at the schismatic over here.
Apparently to keep it close to Passover, whose date is set by the more lunar Jewish calendar, so as to reflect the timing of the crucifixion according to the Biblical account. (All this per this source.)
What’s the moon got to do with the resurrection?
Nothing. But it’s got a lot to do with the pagan fertility goddess the holiday is named after.
Forget LS swaps
https://youtu.be/Uz3WNWnu5MY
Gah!!
Granted probably better than the 6.2 diesel that it came with but dang. That’s one less 1.9 for me to find and swap into the wife’s Sidekick.
People put TDIs in Suzuki’s, but nothing that big.
LS’s are fit for the bottom of the ocean, if that.
Desire, will, determination, project.
Insufficiently shitty.
The city of luxury beliefs
San Francisco
https://www.edwest.co.uk/p/the-city-of-luxury-beliefs
I last went to San Francisco in my early twenties. A friend was studying at Berkeley and what I mainly remember is that everything about the university seemed incredibly lavish compared to Britain. With surroundings like this, how happy and content these elite American college students must be!
Of San Fran itself, I remember that the Chinese food was incredible, the Indian food was awful, and the city seemed full of homeless people, many of them quite mad. This was the 2000s, and things have got notably worse since, making the northern Californian metropolis globally infamous; indeed, San Fran has become both the richest city in history and also a cautionary tale, a symbol of dysfunction. On a roadside in Virginia earlier on my trip, I saw signs put up by Republican activists warning voters not to ‘Californicate’ the state ahead of the governor’s elections (the voters weren’t sold).
The Bay Area is an extreme example of the American urban trap, whereby the very people a city most needs to thrive, the highly educated and culturally refined, are most likely to vote for the sort of politics which drives away families and businesses. This is a national problem, at least outside of the old South, because certain beliefs have become a badge of group identity and a moral framework to the college educated
Do these people not have maps? Bay area is not northern California.
more impressive how the English took over the globe with no maps
Eh, if from SoCal, anything north of Bakersfield is NorCal
Eh, SF is norther CA. Everything north of Morro Bay is Norcal.
Central California is a myth.
It IS, j.i.! Whole swath of nothing.

I could have told you this was coming without consulting any chicken entrails or teenagers looped out on psychodelics.
Stores, other than some mom and pops, never closed for Easter around here. So bizarre to see entire malls closing for Easter.
More unchurched than ever and yet this embrace of closing down for Easter.
It’s like the screeching of the left about making people work on thanksgiving or the day after. They don’t care about the holiday they want to virtue signal.
State run liquor stores are closed today. I pre-planned poorly.
*pours one out for the potato guy*
Just make some bathtub pruno with all them spuds ya got laying ’round.
(I presumed you already keep a batch, but. Hey. It happens.)
I picked up a few at the brewery yesterday, but they are closed today. So, it looks like I am going to a bar for dinner.
Unsupervised is fun!
“Leo: 7 of Cups reversed – Desire, will, determination, project.”
Well, I’m still plugging away at a years-long historical research and compilation project, so I might say they all apply.
State run liquor stores are closed today. I pre-planned poorly.
I wouldn’t have guessed they’d be open on Sundays anyway. I don’t drink anything but beer.
The state likes your money.
The biggest addict of them all.
To Tater about the new species of whale from the dead thread (accidentally posted this there):
Endemic to the Caribbean. Apparently they are a ‘cryptic’ species (scientifically speaking, that is) that was only recently differentiated from another species of whale (Bryde’s) a few years ago using genetics.
I’m always a bit dubious about the ‘existence’ of cryptic species, considering that the concept of ‘species’ is a sliding scale (see blackberries, hawthorns, and canids). Are they truly species are just a subspecies or variety?
Besides, the whole thing smacks of a modern-day snail darter ‘discovery.’ It seems too convenient that they only learned the existence of this species when more oil well drilling in the Gulf was being planned.
Another proof of concept win.
USB-C breakout boards came in packs of 10, so I wired one to just plug on to the individual GPIO pins I designed my board to feed. I was able to boot the Pi off that power.
I got a “power blocker” in-line adapter for the data line, and proved that it did what it claimed to do, as the Pi would not boot off that, but after I powered via the GPIO pins I got the USB mass storage device visible.
I’m worried. Usually something mosntrously wrong happens by this point.
To explain – I decided to attached a USB-C connector to the power-only board I designed so that I can use a regular power adapter. So I used a breakout board to emulate the behavior of the final design just to prove to myself that I understood it.
Well accomplished.
As long as you don’t ask any follow-up questions, yes. I thoroughly understand it is what you did with those whats in that where, there. (*swish!*) My nephew’s got a 3d printer, and I’m excited he’s getting into it.
ask away – I’ve moved on to diagnosing smb problems.
I have no questions because I understand remarkably little about what you said. I get the words but know nothing of the processes or the actual workings of anything you just accomplished. I know what a USB-C is. And other words. These words don’t come together to mean anything to me.
Was riffing on Bart and Lisa’s response when asked if they were familiar with the history of their faith.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=anIXLNIWRAs
I found a problem with my plan, and figured out a workaround.
While you can both share an image file as a usb mass storage device, and mount it in the pi’s OS at the same time, it is not designed to do that so updates made on one side are not seen on the other side.
A reboot forces a reload of the actual data on disk. Since the 3D printer isn’t intended to do any writes to the Pi, I can load remotely, then issue the reboot command. The printer will see the USB drive disconnect then reconnect, as if I’d pulled the thumb drive and stuck it back in.
Off the rails!
The president’s unorthodox Easter morning message was startling, even to those in Washington who have grown accustomed to his unconventional leadership.
Former Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who had a public falling out with Trump before she left Congress, said the president “has gone insane.”
“On Easter morning, this is what President Trump posted,” the Georgia Republican, who is an opponent of the Iran war, said on X. “Everyone in his administration that claims to be a Christian needs to fall on their knees and beg forgiveness from God and stop worshipping the President and intervene in Trump’s madness.”
“It’s disgusting,” Rep. Becca Balint, D-Vt., said during an appearance on MS NOW’s “The Weekend.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer reacted to the president’s F-bomb-laced holiday missive, saying on X, “Happy Easter, America. As you head off to church and celebrate with friends and family, the President of the United States is ranting like an unhinged madman on social media.”
Oh my stars.
25th Amendment him.
All presidents prior were Puritan clean mouthed angels
LBJ only cussed at other politicians?
Fetch my fainting couch!
I guess I should’ve added myself to the Old Man’s birthday list this morning.
Happy Birthday!
Eh, guess you should have.
