Saturday evening Links

Well, here we are on April 18th. Tax season is over and my bank account reflects it. My house in the Gulch is still torn up, waiting on the insurance company to get it’s shit together. Because of my foot, which is just now about normal, the garden has barely been touched. I’ve missed the cold weather vegetables and am scrambling to get the beds ready for the warm weather stuff. Time’s a tickin’.

Enough of that. Links?

News from the Middle East! Where did I leave my jerking off gif… Oh, here it is.

This non college educated man is confused.

I consider this the most relevant article of the last 24 hours. On top of the Iranians being habitual liars, there’s a massive internal struggle going on. The mullahs have become figureheads, government officials have always been figureheads, and the IRCG is feeling it’s oats.

Luddites? Valid concerns? Both?

Tripindicular, man. I hope it works.

“Here, just let me get rid of that pesky extra zero.”

I mean, it’s in the Atlantic, and echoed by the Daily Beast. So it’s got to be true, right? Right?

Gossipy SCOTUS stuff.

I would love to see this douchebag go to jail, but the swamp.

I have a sneaking suspicion the AMA has always been run by political tards.

Okay, that’s it for me. Time to pull some weeds and amend some soil. Peace out, Glibbies.

Erm…

Haven’t they been trying to make this happen for decades?

The International Energy Agency said Tuesday that โ€œdemand destructionโ€ has begun to unfold. As a result of the acute energy commodity shortages stemming from the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, oil appears to have reached a point where it is now so expensive that overseas businesses and households have begun curbing investment and consumption.

Countries in Asia, Europe and even other parts of the Middle East that depend on supplies passing through the strait have begun curtailing their use of natural gas, seen waves of flight cancellations and implemented policies to reduce overall fuel use, the agency noted in the report.

    ——-

The IEA believes demand destruction could become a global trend.

โ€œDemand destruction will spread as scarcity and higher prices persist,โ€ it said.

    Trump’s a hero!

    • UnCivilServant

You would be more effective if you suicide bombed the UN and every globalist and eco-activist group you could find. Things would drastically improve quite rapidly.

    • rhywun

The US is supposedly “energy independent” so why are the prices so high here too? Could it be speculation and not “acute energy commodity shortages”…?

      • Spudalicious

Because oil is a global commodity, with prices set globally. The difference is that we have plenty, and Europe is running out because they get the majority of their oil from the Middle East.

      • rhywun

Yah but this pretense just annoys me that the prices are direct representation of supply as opposed to guessing and speculation. Trump farts out some nonsense and *poof* the prices jumps up or down.

    • Chafed

EV adoption is sure to skyrocket.

      • Evan from Evansville

        I’m right here, dude.

      • Threedoor

Id adopt you but would you fit in with my other orphans?

  2. rhywun

    Israel lags in gender inclusion

JFC. We are living in arguably the freest time in the history of humanity and we are still getting our panties in a twist over this fucking bullshit?

Guess what gals, “tech” isn’t the glamorous old-boy network you seem to think it is. You ain’t missing much.

    • Ownbestenemy

      Yes. That’s the answer. Yes.

    • Gustave Lytton

      Except Imfosys, Wipro, and similar.

  3. Gender Traitor

…non-college educated men, who are less likely to hold jobs compared to their college-educated counterparts.

Mike Rowe might have some suggestions. ๐Ÿ™„

    • Ownbestenemy

Look, our narrowed and specific criteria says otherwise!

    • rhywun

particularly harmful for non-college educated men

It’s almost like that wasn’t the desired result after decades of anti-man propaganda.

    • Threedoor

      Framers make more than baristas.

  4. Shpip

Kash Patelโ€™s tenure as head of the FBI has been marked by excessive drinking, erratic behavior, and unexplained absences, more than two dozen people familiar with his conduct say.

Go on the record or STFU.

    • Ownbestenemy

Two dozen Shpip! 24 people! None willing to give their name, but numbers count right?

    • rhywun

      Keystone Kash

I don’t get it. Is associating him with Pennsylvania some obscure insult on the Left…?

      • rhywun

It’s like “TACO Trump” – an insult so lame it could only come from the Left.

      • EvilSheldon

        Keystone Light.

      • Threedoor

        Keystone Pipeline.

Itโ€™s because heโ€™s brown and crude is brown isnโ€™t it?

        Racist!!!

    Whaz up, part people!

    • DenverJ

Party people? Maybe I was right the first time

  6. The Late P Brooks

    -part people-

Some parts work better than others.

    • Beau Knott

Boy, ain’t that the truth. Sigh

      • Gender Traitor

How are you, Beau? Internal metronome holding steady?

      • rhywun

        LOL

      • Beau Knott

So far so good with the ol’ ticker. If this result lasts past tomorrow, this go-round will be doing better than the last.
Still feeling a bit ‘out of it’ and disengaged, maybe just a teensie bit (hah) moody. Painful ear infection plus antibiotics are not lightening my mood (go figure, lol).
This too shall pass, one way or another.

    • Fourscore

Some parts hardly work and then they hurt anyway

    • The Other Kevin

      Preach.

    • Threedoor

      I have fake parts.
      They suck.

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

I also have fake knees. They aren’t as good as from the factory knees. I can’t kneel for shit. But at least I can walk.

        Arthritus sucks.
Lord, I’d pay a million bucks
To be free of this misery.
To be able to move freely.

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

I need to fix my shoulders next. My left shoulder doesn’t lift above my head. My right shoulder does but I can feel the resistance creeping in.

If I can offer some advise to those younger than me, DON’T GET OLD. IT SUCKS.

      • kinnath

        DONโ€™T GET OLD. IT SUCKS.

        It’s better than the alternative.

      • dbleagle

I have aftermarket hips and I must say that I am very happy with them.

My factory hips were severely arthritic and made movement difficult. Now I am moving freely.

      • Threedoor

Weโ€™re moving to a meat based diet in hopes it helps with the arthritis. Ditching vegetables, particularly the brassicas and beans have had an amazing change in inflation and joint pain.

When we do occasionally eat out or eat something with canola in it we feel it for a few days, usually starts with neck and shoulder pain.

  7. rhywun

    Become fanatical, even violent

Well duh. Leftists always get violent when they don’t immediately get their way. Especially the luxury leftists who seem to be at the center of this movement.

    • rhywun

      Luddites? Valid concerns? Both?

I don’t really know but the character of the opposition is putting me into the pro AI camp just because.

      • Bobbo

AI is why we stomped Iran,
        Just say’n

      • Chafed

Yeah. This reminds me of the bitching about EMFs from powerlines but more violent. All the people opposing it make me believe they should be built.

A Stunning Admission From the Leader of the Phony Ukraine Trump Impeachment

I appreciate the effort but I’d really rather they focus their attention on the successful coup that put Biden in office. Just sayin’.

    • dbleagle

Surely you aren’t suggesting that biden (81M popular votes) was less popular that Obama (65M popular votes in 2008) among the Democrat masses?

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

The most popular votes of ANY presidential election! America LOVED Scranton Joe.

      • Tres Cool

I wonder if Obama or anyone in the DNC looks at that and says “maybe we over did it”.

      • Chafed

        You know Obama is jealous.

  9. rhywun

I have a sneaking suspicion the AMA has always been run by political tards.

Paywalled but yeah I thought everyone knew the AMA was skin-suited by the far left in recent decades. It is why they are still pushing hormones and sex changes while much of the rest of the world is beginning to push back.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

The AMA, the ABA, AAUP, you name it, if it isn’t explicitly conservative, it has been taken over.

      • Threedoor

And even plenty of the โ€˜conservativeโ€™ orgs.

      • Chafed

        Sad but true.

    • Evan from Evansville

Glad Christina Ricci found a good home. Very-Young Ev sensed a kindred spirit in her in Addams Family, and 12yo Ev had a massive crush on her in Sleepy Hollow, very much a silly film, but it kinda knows it and it’s very pretty.

Tim Burton has made some really bad flicks, but I like his visual style and he’s made enough legit classics to offset the strikeouts.
(Still need to rewatch Mars Attacks.)

      • Sean

        Her character is amazingly crazy.

    Of note for history buffs:

251 years ago today, Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Dr. Samuel Prescott set out on their legendary midnight ride. The events that unfolded in the hours and days that followed would ignite the American Revolution.

OTD in 1942, the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo took place. Militarily insignificant, but a morale boost for the U.S.

Exactly one year later, Operation Vengeance commenced, as P-38s took off from Guadalcanal and ambushed Admiral Yamamoto’s plane, killing him and dealing a heavy blow to Japanese naval leadership.

    • Threedoor

      Did somebody say P38?
I canโ€™t afford the rest of it.
      https://ibb.co/VpwZD7hq

    • Chafed

I just read about the attack on Yamamoto’s transport aircraft. That was a stunning attack.

  11. Evan from Evansville

Iranian confusion over opening the Hormuz Strait? A rather unfortunate typo may be to blame:

“However, there was a lack of clarity on ๐€๐ฎ๐ ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ– on whether the Iranians were actually letting ships through. Some ships had moved to exit the Strait on ๐€๐ฉ๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” ๐š๐ง๐ ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ•. Now Iranโ€™s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) appears to be angry at Iranโ€™s foreign minister for saying the Strait is open. This could reveal a crack in the regime facade.”

Who doesn’t change their mind after seven months? Autocorrect! An insipid ploy to bamboozle maritime affairs!

    • R.J.

โ€œAutocorrect โ€œ is the difference between 72 virgins and 72 raisins.

      • Sensei

        Arenโ€™t they both natureโ€™s candy?

      • Evan from Evansville

No, raisins are fucking disgusting. Fucking virgins is novel and exciting. (And you know you’re not on the financial hook for fucking consequences you didn’t fuck your own way into.)

  12. The Late P Brooks

Exactly one year later, Operation Vengeance commenced, as P-38s took off from Guadalcanal and ambushed Admiral Yamamotoโ€™s plane, killing him and dealing a heavy blow to Japanese naval leadership.

Time to clean up my room and the converted closet-into-office setup. (Re)Training starts Monday, and I’ve got my new assignment:
Missouri Grade Level Assessments – Grade 8 Writing. Well. Last time it was 4th graders. So the new kids’ work ‘should’ be longer than before, but I’m not yet sure of their grading metrics. For the younger kids, and I fairly guess for the older ones, it was just a 1-5 ‘grade.’

There may be one grade for composition ideas and another for ‘mechanics,’ grammar and such. I’m curious if we’ll be expected to evaluate the responses as fast (how many/hr) as last time, though I forget the details regarding such.

My final weekend before I begin my first ‘regular’ schedule for the first time in two years when I last did this. I’m not on the Meijer schedule this week, but I’ll go in to get Saturday’s added on. I s’pose that’ll end the 5-days aspect of ‘normal’ scheduling, but without working any early or late shifts, it’ll still be a welcome reprieve.

    Shine on, ya crazy diamonds.

    • Ted S.

      Shine on, you crazy rhombus.

      • Evan from Evansville

Akkktually, I best identify to you squares as a fluid, non-binary vesica piscis.

        *taps noggin* Think about it.
(By the time ya do, I very likely may have shape-shifted again.)

      • Spudalicious

I always pictured you as a Princess cut.

      • Evan from Evansville

        Oh, I am top $.

      • Ted S.

I’d have guessed $20, same as downtown.

    • R.J.

I am triggered! I identify as an emerald! This is a micro aggression! Help! Help! Iโ€™m being oppressed!

      • Evan from Evansville

Oooh, honey, don’t worry. I’ll oppress ya from above. (You’re lucky my arbelos annulus ain’t round tonight. She’s usually my go-to for oppression. But you’ll do tonight, ya vibrant viper, you.)

I still haven’t begun my hobbit-hole reorganization. Playoff hockey distracts, but now is (intermission) time to begin.

Two British English bits that bother me:
        a) “Pissed” really meaning ‘drunk.’ Not a fan. “I was pissed at the bar last night” could easily mean either. Both!

The Biggie: ‘He’s called Steve’ as opposed to being *named* Steve Yuck. I can call ‘im anything! Sinner, saint, bore or whore, but they have a *name.*

Be fun for the two to kinda intersect in real life. “Hello, I’m Dr. Asshole. Yes, that is my given name. I’m your proctologist and I killed a puppy for not parking my car properly. Word got ’round. But now, let us un-clench!” *rubber glove loudly slaps shut*

      • Toxteth O'Grady

Yeah, British syntax. “The BBC have…” And there surgeons are called Mister, I assume out of some gentlemanly thing.

“Word got round”: ooh, ya made me do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v7gvhqKP1pg

Neal Stephenson’s second Bomblight novel, “D: Heavy Water,” I presume about Deuterium? is going to be published in October.

        Clear enough?

      • Ted S.

        Apparently not this

  17. Evan from Evansville

Picked up an Evansville bit while reading baseball. From the dugout, the Rockies are now flashing signs to their catcher to “suggest” what pitch to throw. (They need to end the headset audio the fucks are using now. Fuck right off.) Anyway, left-hander Kyle Freeland was talking about it: “Freeland recalls operating in a โ€œBig Brother-typeโ€ environment while pitching at the University of Evansville, where he would have to explain himself in the dugout after shaking off a coach.”

Hand signs for calls and “suggestions,” only. No tech. This isn’t complicated. (Hence, the obsession with complicating it.) I did respect it when pitchers like Kyle Hendricks had a thing on their belt to call their own pitchers to the catcher, but ya can just shake the catch off.

Don’t complicate things that focus on basics.
