Back to a full week…it is going to be over 90 degree temps the whole time, and my wife is traveling Thursday, so I will be alone for the weekend… Meh.

So here are some links to mull over.

  • “Hey, AOC, shaddup’a you mouth!”
  • This guy is in deep kimchi.
  • Oh WNBA, you are becoming roller derby.
  • Something is going on…

Music – Meh, you will have to supply it today.

“I would never intentionally try to hit someone with a shoe, especially while they’re not looking,” Laney-Hamilton said, according to the New York Post. “Teammate was without a shoe, so I did my best to try and get it to her. Unfortunately, it did hit someone.”

Hothead, liar, throws like a girl… or all three?

    • EvilSheldon

What kind of a retard do you have to be to think that anyone would fall for that excuse?

      • Brochettaward

The girl who got hit says she’s buying it. Soo….

It offers just a hint of plausible deniability which is all they need to pretend.

      • juris imprudent

Fem-jock? It isn’t like all of those years in school were spent learning anything.

    • rhywun

      “especially while they’re not looking”

      LOL

    • Brochettaward

Should have said their a Muslim and that throwing shoes at people they disagree with is part of their religious expression.

      • Brochettaward

Also, I genuinely think the white WNBA players are intimidated to say what really goes on with their black counterparts. Like that shoe came right at the white girl. There’s the only real storyline anyone pays attention to with the WNBA which is all the nonsense aimed at Clark.

Black people don’t have much. They get to be good at basketball and they won’t have whitey taking it from them.

    • Aloysious

      Throwing shoes is ridiculous.

The only proper missiles to be thrown at WokeBall games are green dildos.

  2. Drake

Much higher likelihood that I’d watch roller derby than WNBA.

    • The Other Kevin

I’m biased, but I find roller derby much more entertaining.

    • Tonio

Indeed. Though the inclined-track professional leagues of our youth have been replaced with amateur flat-track leagues of woke tatooed fat women (and trans).

  3. The Late P Brooks

Since it’s probably the hottest day of summer thus far (I even broke down and turned on the A/C), I decided to go outside and run some gas through the mower.

    • Fourscore

I did the same but not much gas or mowing but I like to be outside in summer weather.

  4. Shpip

At UBS in particular, the number of vacancies is at a very low level, with currently not even 50 jobs advertised. Compared with June 2025, there are currently 60% fewer vacancies listed on the website.

Trimming the fat, or clearing the way for our new AI overlords?

,em>Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she knows why socialism is on the rise: Blame it on the Boomers.

Those stupid old meanies don’t believe in sharing.

    • The Other Kevin

So next opportunity she’s going to get into Bernie’s face and scream at him?

      • Fourscore

Bernie/Trump/McConnell and a host of others are proof there needs to be a mandatory political retirement.

Age 60. If it saves just $1 it would be worth it.

    • Fourscore

      “Yeah, but she started it”

      /Fourscore’s kids

    • Brochettaward

I mean, they are a ridiculously selfish generation (sorry if that applies to you) and they kind of did run the country into the ground whether that was by voting for team blue or team red.

Shit is a mess and most of the boomers say they don’t even care about leaving an inheritance to their children. Like as a child you should want your parents to enjoy life, but as a parent you should probably want to keep doing what you can to help your kids succeed.

Everyone kind of sucks. But boomers inherited the golden goose and they kind of killed it. Not all of them, but enough of them and especially the elites of that cohort.

      • kinnath

The baby boom was 18 years.

The people born in the first half of that boom were the idealists that drove social change then later sold out and cashed out.

The people born in the second half of that boom have spent their lives living the consequences of the actions of the assholes in the first half of the boom.

I’ve told people in the past that growing up in the second half of the boom was like following behind a horde of locust that consumed everything in sight and left nothing but destruction in their wake.

      • EvilSheldon

The best thing about GenX is their understanding that generational stereotypes are stupid and cringe.

      • The Other Kevin

My parents were that pre-boomer generation. They saved and invested heavily and now they can afford to do what they want, and good for them.

They also spend their entire lives voting blue no matter who because “muh benefits”. Thanks mom and dad.

      • Brochettaward

Most stereotypes have some basis in reality and we all stereotype in all kinds of ways. There are always people who break the molds.

Every boomer wasn’t responsible for shipping jobs overseas to save a nickel (or Shekel, if you’re so inclined). But when I look at the perverse incentives exist throughout the economy, many of them stem from the baby boomers. And the top brackets of baby boomers most definitely did strip the country. The mindset very much looks like “I gots mines and now fuck you!”

What is it, 60% of boomers who say they don’t care about leaving money to their children?

And I’ve never heard much push back from anyone here when it comes time to trash the youngin’s. I can trash Gen Z or even Millennials all day. If I posted that the kids in school are dumber than rocks no one would bat an eye. `

      • Gustave Lytton

Yeah, boomers (god, I hate that shorthand) inherited the golden goose

        Vietnam
        70’s stagflation and malaise
        Failed welfare state
        Fucked up cronyist fascism lite

The fucking greatest generation kept a lock from basically post war to early 90’s. Fuck you, Tom Brokaw, for that shit label.

      • Spudalicious

You and I are of like mind, GL.

      • EvilSheldon

For pretty much everyone under 30 now, ‘boomer’ just means ‘someone older than me.’

As an aside, I predicted some years ago that as the Boomers started to die off, the losers would shift the blame for their sad lives down to the GenXers. And wouldn’t you know it, they have! I do hope I live long enough to laugh at the Millennials getting the same treatment…

      • Brochettaward

So to summarize, you can talk all the shit you want about the younger generations. But don’t direct it at the older generations.

    • Tonio

Or in threading or proper html tags…

  6. The Other Kevin

Oh WNBA, you are becoming roller derby.

Hey now, that kind of behavior will get you ejected from the game and the venue in today’s roller derby.

  7. UnCivilServant

I just uploaded an article on building a New York compliant AR rifle and its first test run. It can go wherever the schedule needs something.

  8. The Late P Brooks

Hey now, that kind of behavior will get you ejected from the game and the venue in today’s roller derby.

Two Atlanta-based FBI intelligence analysts were fired last week after refusing to participate in the Trump administration’s investigation of Georgia’s 2020 presidential election, three people familiar with the matter told MS NOW.

The analysts, a husband and wife, told colleagues they did not believe the investigation was justified under FBI and Justice Department policies, the people said, adding that the couple was escorted out of their office. The FBI neither confirmed nor denied that the two analysts were fired.

Fleas want to run the circus.

    • kinnath

What the fuck are a husband and wife doing working together in the office?

      • EvilSheldon

Super common in government service, especially in law enforcement and intelligence.

      • Ted S.

The Captain and Tennille worked together….

      • Threedoor

They started single and realized that you could have the office romance and extra Bennie’s.

      • UnCivilServant

The only restriction on marries couples working together at New York State is that one cannot manage or supervise the other. They can be peers, or they can work in different departments, but you can’t have one reporting to the other, even through intermediate management.

      • The Other Kevin

I’ve watched enough cop shows to know by season 3 the couple with unresolved sexual tension will end up together, and will get married by season 6.

      • rhywun

Their love grew out of their shared oUtRaGe at Donald.

      • Michael Malaise

I know a couple who both work together at ODOT. They are both engineers.

      • Aloysious

You would say cheese. You’re a rat.

  10. The Late P Brooks

If it was a GR Yaris 107 should be easily doable.

    • EvilSheldon

An extremely light AWD six-speed manual that gets 0.62 in 5.2 seconds? Yeah, I can’t imagine anyone wanting to thrash that down Skyline Drive…

      • Threedoor

I suppose you could rebody it to look cool.

      • EvilSheldon

If ugly cars couldn’t be cool, no one would ever buy a Lotus or a whaletail Porsche…

  11. The Late P Brooks

They also spend their entire lives voting blue no matter who because “muh benefits”. Thanks mom and dad.

    FDR saved the republic.

    • Threedoor

That’s God King FDR, lord and savior of government largess.

      • The Other Kevin

Hey, they put money into the system their whole lives, the least they can do is get more out of it than they put in, with annual raises.

Or as my grandparents said with derision, “That man”.

  12. Threedoor

    Went camping.
    Unplugged for a couple days.

    Did I miss anything?

    • The Other Kevin

I was at a gym-related event and was also off my phone for 3 days. Lindsey someone died, I think the one from Disney’s Parent Trap?

      • Threedoor

        Stirling, the violinist?

My son would be terribly saddened.

      • Ted S.

        Hayley Mills?

        Lindsey Buckingham?

      • Gdragon

        What up with that?!?!?!

    • Aloysious

      Nope.

Did you see STEVE SMITH frolicking through the woods of Cascadia?

      • The Other Kevin

STEVE SMITH no let hiker be unplugged.

      • EvilSheldon

STEVE SMITH caused Lindsey Graham’s heart attack. And by heart attack, he mean…

      • Threedoor

Two deer woke me up snorting by the tent this morning around 4.

      • EvilSheldon

        Mmmmm, venison for breakfast!

      • Threedoor

Saw some mountain blue birds, a cedar waxwing, yellow finches, a couple flickers, white tail deer, two does and two bucks in velvet, a bevy of chipmunks and a sage grouse.

Some elk sign not none fresh. Does were without fawns dominant to assume that Bill Clinton’s Canadian wolves got them.

      • JaimeRoberto feckful & gruntled

        What were they snorting? Doe-caine?

      • EvilSheldon

Honestly I’d rather have the wolves than the deer. Wolves are generally smart enough to keep out of the way of my truck.

      • Threedoor

We did leave them a pile of trail mix on a log round.

Also counted the rings of a tree that had blown down and then cut at the saddle where we camped. ~280 years. It had a good run.

    • Plinker762

      Where did you go camping?

      • Threedoor

Up the 301 Road out of Clarkia ID, about three miles past Crater lake. We were going to camp at the campground there up in the woods 150 years but there was a snag within falling distance of the campsite.

Went so see Shakespeare in the Vineyards last night. They decided to set Hamlet in 1990, because of…Climate Change. Apparently it has become too warm to wear costumes from the period in which the original play was set.

  14. The Late P Brooks

They decided to set Hamlet in 1990

    Was Bill Murray in it?

First day on the job went well. I got to use the forklift a little. One of my coworkers speaks Arabic so it was fun to practice with him. He was impressed with my knowledge. Rafa’ah shokeh (lifter-forky) means forklift in Arabic. Another was 19K (armored vehicle crewmember) in the Army. Later he did demo. He calls C4 “angry playdoh”. It seems grungy, smoking, swearing blue collar losers are my tribe. Or at least the group most accepting of me.

Things are looking up. My mantras include:

    -Focus here and now
    -Step by step
    -One day at a time
-It’s over, they’re gone (I use this one when I start getting wound up about a bad memory)

15 days booze-free too. Yay me.

Fun fact: In Italian, Costanza means constancy, steadfastness, or firmness. Kind of the opposite of the character.

Oh yeah, the Arab coworker taught me that saalib (negative) means a bottom gay and mujib (positive) means a top. The same terminology is used for battery terminals.

I work mostly inside, which is nice. It gets pretty dusty, but that’s a brick factory for you.

    • Brochettaward

Watch out for the Arab on Thursdays. Protect your cheeks as they say in the black community.

      • Derpetologist

I’m pretty sure he’s straight. He’s divorced and has a daughter. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGAyQAkXajg

Oh yeah. His name’s Mohamed. He goes by Mo. Yemeni dad, American mom. He said he probably has cousins who’ve joined the Houthis. It turns out a lot of their recruits are in it because the lost their jobs when the last government was overthrown.

      • Brochettaward

It’s not gay if you are the top. It’s Islamic science.

      • EvilSheldon

Huh, government workers turning feral when they get kicked out of their sinecures? Imagine that…

    • R C Dean

I hope it goes well for you, Derpy.

Oh yeah, I might get to do some welding too. Although the guys they already have are probably better at it than me.

    • Evan from Evansville

I absolutely love the synchronicity. My first day didn’t include too much of anything, let alone ‘work,’ but it was my first day ‘in’ real estate. It’s my first time *not* clocking in since the Tribune, three years ago. (We do have weekly time sheets, though.)

I’m envious of the forklifting, cuz I really did think about it. (I love the ‘can take this skill wherever I go’ aspect. But nephews take precedence, for the moment. And I’m gettin’ (professionally) lucky as it is. I believe I’m quite wise to have never gone down it. Woulda been another bold, and dangerous, phlebotomy-esque detour.

“Rafa’ah shokeh (lifter-forky)” I love how German that is, but without the brevity. Seems to fit.

  16. Shpip

Music – Meh, you will have to supply it today.

How ’bout some German gals doing a Xhosa pop hit from almost sixty years ago?

  17. Brochettaward

Looking it up, supposedly the most downvoted Reddit post ever is some shit defending a scammy Star Wars game released by EA. -214k votes.

I’ve only ever gotten a few hundred downvotes for wrong think.

I hit Super Bigot, but I don’t know if I can manage to get to Ultra Bigot let alone the super elite “Giga Bigot” tier. It’s a fine line. You can’t just say shit that gets banned or removed. It needs to walk the line.

  18. Evan from Evansville

Glad to again see Korea really don’t fuck ’round with heads of state. “A South Korean court sentenced former President Yoon Suk Yeol to two years in jail Monday after he was found guilty of receiving illegal polling services, local media reported. Yoon is involved in eight legal cases and is currently appealing a life sentence linked to his attempt at leading an insurrection with his martial law declaration in 2024.”

Just add it all on. Hopefully, that’d lead to others being tried for executing Yoon’s plans. I highly doubt Yoon would turn ’em in. Lose much face. All face. Seems like ratting out your criminal boss would happen far more often there, but, again, it’s not like Koreans haven’t been going after ’em. I imagine being outed as a snitch would be devastatingly dangerous. Weiguk English teachers got put on Black Lists if they got a bad rep. Something tells me, nah.

“Come at the king? Best not miss.”

I made a joke in a joke post about being alarmed that women were deciding aspects of my Pokemon battles and people lost their shit.

The funny part is one of them went on some rant about how stupid/dumb my post was because women have made countless contributions to mathematics and science/computing. I instantly planned to make a reference to Hidden Figures. Only for them to end their post with: You can read or watch the book/movie Hidden Figures to learn more about it.

I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time.

    • Derpetologist

Hidden Figures does not seem to have inspired much math excellence. Almost every named idea in math is named after a white man: Pythagorean Theorem, Pascal’s Triangle, Riemann Hypothesis, etc.

No one gets bent out of shape when someone notes that blacks dominate the NBA. Why is it a big deal to point out that mathematics is almost entirely the result of European men?

It’s taboo to say the races on average are not equal in ability or temperament even when the evidence is obvious and overwhelming.

I guess the reason is rejecting egalitarianism would require a painful and unpopular overhaul of the American system.

      • Brochettaward

I actually thought about responding with name me a theory or equation discovered/name after a female let alone a black one. But just went with the more sarcastic “black girls are magic.”

  21. Derpetologist

The way things are going, I expect a successful campaign to replace the US flag and anthem.

Team Red got 86% of its votes from whites in the last election. Team Blue has become the party of non-whites.

Libertarians have been going nowhere, and the GOP is circling the drain. I was surprised that Bush the Lesser’s latest project is painting immigrants. I guess he’s hoping that his family and library will be spared when the angry mobs come.

    https://www.bushcenter.org/publications/out-of-many-one-portraits-of-americas-immigrants
