Saturday evening Links from The Gulch

Bar

Yep. The missus and I are still in The Gulch. We’ve been working dinner service for a couple of nights, and I’m ready to go back to being retired. On the plus side, the new bar is now in place and much more user friendly.

Links?

England continues it’s descent into insanity.

Canadian gypsies are the worst.

Lyndsey and John look down with approval, while wildly rubbing their war boners together.

Quit promoting commie Popes and boinking the alter boys.

Redfield was a Trump appointee. He wasn’t in any of the incriminating e-mail chains.

Obviously, it’s the racisms.

Bourbon virus?!? NOOO!!! NOOO!!! Oh, Bourbon County, Kansas.

Okay, that’s it for me. Time to go hawk some more booze and tell the wife she needs to wipe a couple of tables. Peace out, Glibbies.

That’s a handsome bar (although it’d pull it together better if the mirror also had a dark finish).

    Thanks for the links, Spud.

(And I enjoyed the song, even if it’s not my normal thing)

    • Threedoor

I’m not sure about the gray haired umpalumpa behind it though.

      Looks shady

      • slumbrew

That’s just hurtful. He’s not _that_ grey.

      • rhywun

It’s like looking in a (different) mirror.

      • Spudalicious

        Don’t trust that dude.

      • Fourscore

The bar kind of ties the room together.

The popcorn on the floor makes a serious ambiance, lacking in lesser places.

      • Threedoor

        I don’t trust myself.

Somehow I still end up giving people the benefit of the doubt.

Two days ago neighbors dog bit me.

He called the cops, on me. Had to preempt me with a false report and have me trespassed. SMH.

Weekend Mass — in which practicing Catholics are, by some accounts, obligated to attend

    By some accounts. Legit LOL.

    • rhywun

The Catholic church of my youth is Pentecostal now. 😱

      • Sensei

My wife is at Mass as I type this.

There has been a resurgence of interest in younger generations in RCC, but the middle has indeed declined.

In my opinion has nothing to do with the current commie pope and more the general rise of secularism.

      • Threedoor

        Less buggery.
        More snake bites.

      • R.J.

Nor the scandals, but neither helps.

But yeah I believe the fastest growing religion is “none”. Unless you count “climate” or “DEI” or “‘the science'”.

      • slumbrew

Unless you count “climate” or “DEI” or “‘the science’”.

“When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.”

        (Not us, of course)

      • rhywun

And that’s in a solidly middle-class mostly Italian-ethnic suburb. I haven’t been in the neighborhood in 40 years, though.

      • rhywun

“When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.”

Yeah, I’ve been hearing that for many years… and I think there might be something to it for a lot of people… just people who aren’t me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • Threedoor

        Rhy, belief in free will.

See you don’t behave in the god of the Calvinists.

      • creech

“When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.”
Holds true for God believers too. Slavery, killing infidels, burning heretics, compassionately opening one’s borders to a billion new immigrants.

      • rhywun

        I sure do.

But the things I believe in are so self-evidently obvious that I have to wonder what the hell is wrong with people who don’t.

        🤨

      • Threedoor

A link to a Rush song?

        Yeah you’re going to hell.

        That’s just mean.

See you don’t behave in the god of the Calvinists.

a lot of people… just people who aren’t me.

I think people attracted to this site and libertarianism in general are just a bit different in that regard.

I don’t mean that in a way to pat ourselves on the back. I just think that if you like this philosophy, you understand the responsibility of being in charge of yourself

      • slumbrew

I submit the enduring unpopularity of our opinions as proof of that.

      • rhywun

+ I am comfortable with people who are religious, as long they don’t try to assume power over me.

        Yeah, we are weird.

      • rhywun

Disbelief in the greatness of Rush though… I have a hard time tolerating that heresy.

      • Brochettaward

“When men choose not to believe in God, they do not thereafter believe in nothing, they then become capable of believing in anything.”

I’m not saying that religion is the answer, but the decline of Christianity was a big element of the rise of fascism and communism. Fascism itself inherited Europe’s anti-Semitism, but none of the restraining power that Christianity offered. So you could kill a subhuman Jew without having to worry about any punishment. And as hated as Jews were, they still had a role to play in Christianity.

Nothing grinds my gears more than hearing people talk about the supposed evils perpetrated from religion while so many themselves follow what could fairly be called secular religious dogma.

There’s few wars fought over truly just religion. And don’t get me started on the morons who act like The Crusades were some great historical evil and an example of Christian extremism…

      • rhywun

morons who act like The Crusades were some great historical evil and an example of Christian extremism

More self-loathing from “the West”. Any more of that and we’re going to self-loathe ourself into extinction.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

The CC of my hometown (and host of my Boy Scout Troop) is a Mission CC, so it gets every potato eater in the county showing up, thus packed for all masses.

      • EvilSheldon

I suppose I’m lucky in that regard – my lack of belief in God has always been downstream of my lack of belief, in general.

A few different cultural events, and I easily could have ended up some miserable commie smoothbrain.

      • Gustave Lytton

The lack of churching in this state is a huge part of the cultural problem here.

      • Furthest Blue pistoffnick (370HSSV)

Disbelief in the greatness of Rush though… I have a hard time tolerating that heresy.

        Amen brother rhywun.

    • Nephilium

      Cheebus Fucking Christ.

I never could even wrap my head around the excuses made for Saturday evening Mass as a substitute for Sunday service.

      • rhywun

lol Never even thought of it or was even aware there that such a “substitute” existed and there was something to argue about it.

It was always Sunday morning in my household. Some barely remembered Sunday school, too.

      • Sensei

Jews… Day ends at sundown. Hence the Sabbath.

But yeah, I get your point you gotta pick one day as your holy day.

  4. rhywun

JFC I’m all wore out from packing. I should just pay somebody to do this shit.

    • Chafed

It’s a little late for that now.

      • rhywun

Not really. I have way more to go.

  5. Brochettaward

Did anyone else just hear Rory Connelly doing ‘A Nation Once Again’?

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Let Italy have it back. They can have Gaul, err France, too.

    • Chafed

Very much doubt they can muster one.

  6. Rat on a train

I found out today that Wegmans around the country sell Buffalo Bills gear.

    • slumbrew

Huh. I’ll have to check on our next visit here in Mass

    • Gender Traitor

Krogers should sell Bengals gear nationwide.

      • Nephilium

If we were going to go down that dark path, then Giant Eagles would need to have Stillers gear (at least up until they were bought by Kroger).

      • Brochettaward

I think we need more corporate rivalries that are openly acknowledged. WWE style shit. Sports would play into that nicely.

        They already rule us.

      • Chafed

        That was relevant… and appreciated.

    • rhywun

lol Really? I would just assume they sold the local Team.

Yeah they sell it hear in Ithaca too even though Buffalo is hours away and not exactly local. But it’s really kind of the no-man’s land here. Not NYC, not Buffalo. Finger Lakes, sort of? We don’t have any local TV stations. I guess we’re in the Syracuse market but I’ve never been there nor had a reason to go there except for the fact I would have to go there to get a REAL ID. 😡

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Do you just get the skin dress, or does it come with the python and mini-14 too?

      • rhywun

I dunno what those refer to but I just suffered horrible ‘zubaz’ memories from my years of living in Buffalo.

      • R.J.

What in God’s name are you discussing?

      • Brochettaward

I think he’s saying he fucked rat’s mom and he has a 14 inch Firsticle.

      • rhywun

What in God’s name are you discussing?

        Feast your eyes.

      • Brochettaward

The Bills really do seem to have the ugliest apparel in all of sports. The Bungles and Browns are both pretty high too.

      • R.J.

People on this planet wear that in public? Or is it what you get in jail?

      • Brochettaward

        As someone from Buffalo, yes.

      • Ted S.

You don’t want to wear one of these?

    • Gustave Lytton

Local Walmart sold Ok State cowboys gear for a while because their buyer can’t tell the difference between OK and OR.

      • Threedoor

I have no idea what a Buffalo Bills is but those pants are on FIRE!

      • Aloysious

That’s why you should wear them on your head.

  7. Brochettaward

I know some are big fans of The Critical Drinker here, but I’ve always leaned towards Gary/Nerdrotic. As obnoxious as something such as Friday Night Tights can get with everyone yelling over one another, I don’t know. He’s got the sort of retarded humor I have and seems kind of genuine. He tries to paint that picture.

Chrisse Mayre was one of the 12 or whatever fucking co-hosts of FNT. Was. She got involved in the retarded drama with The Quartering striking down some other channel. Kino Casino boys who seemed kind of cringy from any clips I saw. Not the point. Quartering is a giant douchebag (which didn’t surprise me) who let them talking shit about him (and admittedly his wife and their relationship) who apparently has connections to someone at Youtube. Apparently his rep which they appoint to big channels as I understand it as a mere pleb. They banned a few of their secondary channels with bogus strikes and there was a big fight on it, though I don’t think he’s ever admitted to doing it.

The Quartering had a ‘friend’ in Melanie Mac who was affiliated with FNT and Chrissie. She got involved because she refused to throw Quartering under the bus and supported him. Chrissie had Melanie on her livestream that no one normally watches anyway, and the super chats were all angling for her to go after her despite them being friends. Stream had nothing to do with that controversy, but this blew up into a huge mess for her as she didn’t ever address any of that internet chatter and claimed to not know about it while some other Youtuber was trying to join and private messaging Chrissie.

So Mayre told some dumb lies to justify it all. But the option is basically throw her friend under the bus for something she undoubtedly couldn’t give two fucks about. I genuinely don’t think she had her on to feed off the controversy, but who the fuck cares if she did?

The audience members got up in arms and Gary acted like a bitch putting Chrissie in a “timeout” that was obviously going to be permanent. Officially Chrissie now says she’s off the show.

So it kind of goes against the whole “anti-cancel culture” and pro free speech elements of what FNT claims to support. Though they can hide behind their general opposition to striking down other channels. No one accuses Chrissie of having any part in that. Just not going after Melanie Mac who herself had no actual role in it and just failed to condemn The Quartering as a witch herself.

It’s all rather stupid. But yea FNT caved to the mob and ditched a co-host who wasn’t all that important over a dumb controversy that had their corner of the internet up in arms. Hasn’t hurt the show any, but it still rubs me the wrong way for obvious reasons. Not the least of which it kind of shows how fake these Youtubers are pretending to be actual ‘friends’ with co-hosts. It’s not as bad as like Howie Stern’s fall to whatever the fuck he is now (an old yenta basically, which he used to mock).

Most of the mouth breathers won’t care and will just keep watching. Most people don’t have principles or real devotion to shit.

Do I have a point here? Not much of one. Just e-drama at the end of the day.

    Also, Chrissie Mayr: would?

Always had a thing for red heads, but the horse mouth breaks it for me.

      • Brochettaward

Youtubers might make good money, but I refuse to call them celebrities or think of them like that. It’s some asshole in his bedroom with a camera on him. Not that celebrities or celebrity are anything to aspire to in the first place.

      • Brochettaward

Besides, we all watch some shit on Youtube at this point. Plenty of people on here do follow that sphere. Just curious if anyone else had a take.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

Interpersonal conflict gets views and everyone’s expendable.

    • rhywun

I have no idea what any of that is all about. I don’t “follow” any “channels”. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

One douchebag got a couple of other (much funnier) douchebags banned from YouTube. A female douchebag hired to flash cleavage on a panel of swinging dick douchebags got fired by the head douchebag for standing up for the other female douchebag that stood up for the douchebag that got the other two douchebags banned.

        That’s it in a nutshell.

      • DrOtto

Thankfully, I only watch South Main Auto and I Do Cars, and I don’t see them getting dramatical any time soon. They tend to only stick to the subject at hand.

      • Sensei

        I do love Eric O.

      • DrOtto

He knows his shit and isn’t afraid to teach others tricks of the trade. I’ve learned a lot from watching his channel, aside from just how hacky other shops can really be. Watching him has also helped me become more professional in my trade, which is, unfortunately, not what all mechanics are/aspire to be. I used to have an aversion to wiring diagrams that both that channel and another mechanic helped me overcome. When the other mechanic passed in 2023, I had to throw the crutches away and walk on my own in that regard, since I leaned heavily on him with second guessing myself and realized I did know this shit, I just didn’t trust myself.

    • Gustave Lytton

My eyes glazed over halfway through. Sorry, bro.

    • J. Frank Parnell

Meh, I feel like Gary is too negative and just shits all over everything, and really isn’t entertaining enough to make that interesting.

Drinker is more entertaining even when he’s shitting all over everything. I also like the long-form deep-dive shitting all over everything videos from Mauler and Little Platoon.

I haven’t seen any FNT for at least a year (and even then I didn’t really watch it so much as fast forward through 99% of it) and know nothing about any of this drama.

      • slumbrew

I like the Drinker because he’s a regular person – married, two little girls, doggos. He does things that have nothing to do with media and culture wars, like his travel videos. Even media-wise, “The Drinker Recommends” vids are great and positive.

The bit I’ve seen of Gary is that this is his entire life and it’s mostly negative. Even the background of endless action figures and the like marks him as a man-child.

        I find it off putting.

      • J. Frank Parnell

“The Drinker Recommends” vids are great and positive.

I really wish he would do more The Drinker Fixes videos, I thought those were really good.

      • Brochettaward

Gary is married, has 3 kids (one with autism), had his own business (owned a comic shop), currently has two dogs and has been sober for over a decade. He did time in the early 90’s, stayed out since. Had one major relapse and put his shit back together. Now makes the Youtube bucks.

I don’t find that story negative at all.

And there’s plenty of shit that gets made which he likes. I’m just more curious what people think he is wrongly negative about to begin with. One guy thought The Odyssey wasn’t bad. That’s about all I’ve heard. Otherwise it’s more tired trope than anything to do with his actual reviews.

He praises things all the time, but the simple reality of Hollywood these days is that most blockbusters do suck.

      • slumbrew

Fair enough; I know nothing about the guy. But none of that comes through for me – I only know him from the occasional Drinker Open Bar segments (as in, I watch one maybe once a month) and I find him a bit grating but de gustibus

      • slumbrew

I just took a quick look

        https://ibb.co/XxPgqC42

Nothing about that makes me want to watch those videos.

      • rhywun

I’m with Ted’S – I’d rather a 5-minute read than a 30-minute video, especially when the video is almost certainly going to be full of annoying autist quirks.

      • rhywun

And PS… the same fucking trend is evident everywhere.

I often need to or want to learn new programming stuff – it’s almost all just people slapping together videos now. Much easier for them, sure. Who wants to carefully craft a web page tutorial anymore. Much less friendly for the user.

      • slumbrew

        Counterpoint, The Drinker:

        https://ibb.co/20ZHyxK0

        (I scrolled down a page,TBF)

        Again, de gustibus

      • J. Frank Parnell

He praises things all the time

Okay, to be fair I don’t subscribe to his channel and/or watch every video, just every time he pops up in his feed he seems to be trashing something and/or gloating over some insider baseball shit in Hollywood. And in general I don’t care for the “guy talking into a webcam with a microphone in front of him” style of video, so I’m not prone to seek out more of his stuff.

I did see some video a few years ago of him talking to Chrissie Mayr about his story and particularly about his time in prison, that was pretty interesting.

      • Brochettaward

The titles sound sound click baity. Because they are. Somewhat ironically so. None of that really reflects what he’s said. He didn’t care for The Odyssey but never said it would be a flop, but with his livestreams it basically just tells you roughly what he’ll be talking about.

Otherwise, he covers pop culture and mainly genre/nerd stuff that defines it. As does Drinker frankly. Style isn’t the exact same, but their opinions align for the most part like 90% of the time I’d say anyway. So it’s just odd that people say they like one but the other is too negative.

I can count any number of things Gary livestreams out of praise even if those things fall off (House of the Dragon after season 1). Sometimes they start cautiously excited (Harry Potter) only to start getting annoyed as the casting tells you the direction they’ll go in.

Garry also has a number of contacts in Hollywood nerd spaces. Some of which he’s put Drinker in touch with. The content they cover is usually almost entirely the same on top of them being in agreement.

I can get if someone prefers one’s style over the other because they are different vibes.

My favorite stream he does isn’t even the nerd shit – it’s his other channel where he does Forbidden Frontier and covers more conspiracy shit. A very poor man’s Art Bell imitation.

      • slumbrew

I can get if someone prefers one’s style over the other because they are different vibes.

It may just be that. I find Gary grating; that said, I’m currently watching him on Kennedy and he’s coming across as much more thoughtful

        https://youtu.be/siAJDloyfCY

      • Brochettaward

His takes tend to be nuanced and even if he is overly negative:
        1. I agree that most of the current movies suck. It’s honest.
        2. I don’t think he’s negative for clicks. See the above, and he really genuinely does praise some stuff. He wouldn’t shut the fuck up about the One Piece Netflix show after that first season as one prime example that’s more recent.

But where he shines the most is kind of his general statements on the industry and how it works. I think if you let the action figures dictate your opinion, you’re jumping to conclusions about him. But I get it’s not going to be for everyone.

My brother started watching. He liked Garry, though not some of the other people and the other issue there’s a lot of repetitive content (nature of doing 3 3-4 hour streams a week on top of the videos) and you have to at least find the state of Hollywood interesting if not the movies themselves. But if you never liked comic movies or think they’re beneath you, didn’t care about Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and that stuff to begin with even if you like his takes on Hollywood it’s hard to stay engaged would be my point.

I watch his stuff almost entirely for him and maybe Ryan Kinnel. I can leave the rest for the most part. But I don’t like Ryan’s videos or other streams. Just like him on FNT oddly enough.

Not trying to get evangelical about this. When I first started hearing about him he looked cringy as fuck to me. Friday Night Tights sounds lame. The action figures were goofy. But he grew on me when I actually paid attention to what he says.

And he tends to be a good one-on-one guest in formats like Kennedy. His life story is interesting. Did real hard time in a high security Cali prison at the height of 90’s racial tensions.

    • Chafed

      Would not.

      • J. Frank Parnell

Pops up in my feed, rather.

      • J. Frank Parnell

  9. DrOtto

We used to have Gypsies that would rove through Houston upscale retail shops during Christmas shopping season. I worked in a small antique pavilion at the time and we had 3 shops under our one storefront. They tried to weaponise their cleavage to distract the male retail employees, unfortunately for them, their weren’t many hetero males in an antique pavilion and since I’m turned off by hairy arms, I was also immune to their charms.

  10. Brochettaward

Oxford Union debate over Islam in the West. It’s a lot of the same old, but the part the link will send you to is pretty entertaining and clever. Did more to make the point than any argument could.

    • Chafed

I saw that earlier today. For a bunch of bright kids they sure are dense.

      • Brochettaward

It’s just the era they grew up in. Actual no shit debate isn’t something they value. It’s consensus culture that dominates with them.

Most people are really just a product of their culture at the end of the day. I was never social enough to really become like that. Just always off doing my own shit.

  11. Gustave Lytton

Fucking Bessent is apparently going to try to prop up the yen. Let it slide and I’ll buy even more goods in JPY.

      • Gustave Lytton

Nice! The mid 80’s covers don’t seem to quite hit it.

I’ve been amazed at the licensing deals Apple Music has pulled off. Lots and lots of back catalog stuff, ones that were never available on iTunes Music Store, is there now. And some are remastered within the last year. Ordinary aidoru not hot city pop stuff.

      • Sensei

It relies heavily on AI. So it’s novelty more than anything else.

But it suggests future pop music like other art may struggle.

    • Stinky Wizzleteats

I did sense a rather worn vibe. 🥴

  13. rhywun

I just hit a wall trying to play a fucking Nintendo game. It requires a Ubisoft account. I was able to bypass that bullshit on Switch I but apparently it is impossible to do so on Switch II.

The whole point of a console is not having to deal with that bullshit.

It’s Saturday night and I have no patience to deal with this shit so I am going to pour another drink and flip the TV back to Columbo and seethe another day.

    • DrOtto

Which Columbo? I’m about to dive in an episode. Last week was L.A. district attorney coming to his neighbor’s aid when he accidentally killed his wife in return for the neighbor not tattling on the D.A. when he killed his wife and blamed both deaths on a serial cat burglar.

      • rhywun

Whatever network this is (“MyTV”?) is showing a very silly one with Hector Elizondo pretending to be some sort of fake Arab from a fictional country because even in the 70s you couldn’t offend those guys.

      • DrOtto

There were enough Cubans highjacking planes then, didn’t need to add any more fuel to the fire.

      • rhywun

I like that one. The ending where Columbo makes a fool of the smug asshole DA is classic.

    • Brochettaward

Consoles are dying and they are doing it to themselves.

      What game?

Nintendo is the only one I can even get buying. There are few good console exclusives on PS and X-box. Nintendo has by far the weakest hardware, but fills two niches. One, it’s portable and you can take it anywhere. Two, and most importantly, they have IP that they have managed to milk for nearly the entirety of my life. Mario, Zelda, Pokeman’s and such. All exclusives obviously.

For all the dumb shit Nintendo does, just locking and keeping IP on their console is going to be what keeps them chugging alone no matter what else they do.

I don’t know what the fuck Sony and Microsoft are going to do when they seem determined to piss off the few fans they have left.

      • Brochettaward

I literally only bought Switch II for Pokeman. I have the updated Zelda BoTW, but haven’t even touched it. Not much of a gamer. Hands are too busy Firstin’.

      • rhywun

        “Rogue Prince of Persia”

I know I played this a year or so ago. I cannot now. And I was determined to bitch about it to support but… you can probably guess how that went in the ten minutes or so I wasted at the attempt.

Yeah, I like them because (a) I like playing on my television and (b) the exclusives. Plus I am not on Windows anymore so a lot of games which don’t appear on Macs do appear on Nintendo. Such as this one. Or so I thought.

      • rhywun

        updated Zelda BoTW

I might have that already; I don’t remember. Those games are not build for old farts like me so I might enjoy pouring a few dozen of hours into it but eventually I hit some bullshit boss battle that stops me in my tracks and I don’t have the patience or a handy twelve-year-old nearby to beat it for me.

      • Threedoor

My wife just bought two DS’s and a bunch of games.

Our cartridge buying in the last month has been dare I say it a bit excessive.

Weve spread out to Famicom games now…

      • rhywun

        Ooh the DS was fun.

Sadly none of the games have been ported to Switch yet but I’m sure it’s only a matter of time and $$.

      • Brochettaward

Rhywun – if you like your Switch, look into getting it modded. The issue of games being ported over goes away. It’s not very hard especially with any tech experience. Biggest issue of it of late is that Nintendo wouldn’t stop the fucking updates which can be obnoxious.

I also have a modded 3DS. I’d like to do it to my old XL from when I was a kid that I found. Bought the other when I thought I lost it.

      • rhywun

And brick it? LOL no thanks. The days where I want to fuck with shit like that are long behind me.

      • Brochettaward

If I haven’t bricked it, I don’t think you will. Had someone who does it on the regular do the chip installation. It’s really very easy to install things. I was worried about that at first, but those concerns are long gone and it made having the system way more worth it to me. Can mod games, can pirate if you want. Save fuckery is big for me because of the Pokemon shit, plus RNG manipulation. Though I’m guessing that wouldn’t be your thing.

There’s this thing called the HATS pack which comes with just about everything you’d need. It gets updated, you just update that.

As for Rogue Prince of Persia, to play without a Ubisoft account a quick search says just disconnect from the Wifi to play it. Or turn on airplane mode. People say it works for Switch 2 online.

      • rhywun

I’m not a 10-year-old girl so no, Pokemon fuckery is not a thing for me.

As for airplane mode, thanks but it doesn’t work in TV mode. Maybe I’ll try in hand held some day but that’s very rare for me.

      • Brochettaward

Most Pokeman fans are adults these days. Statistically. I feel attacked here.

      • rhywun

You must be younger than me. I was pushing 30 when that crap came out and it holds no interest for me whatsoever.

  14. J. Frank Parnell

Just got back from the new SpiderMan movie. I enjoyed it. Zendaya actually makes facial expressions other than her usual resting bitch face, so that was nice.

    • rhywun

lol I had to look that person up on Wikipedia and resting bitch face was right there at the top.

    • Chafed

I didn’t think that was possible.

    • Sean

Super Troopers 3 is almost here!

    • rhywun

Saw that. Still living in Da Bronx (well, City Island). Baller.

  15. Plinker762

Northeast and Northwest Spokane under wildfire evacuation orders. So far it is smaller than the 1991 firestorm that got Spokane Valley.

    • Threedoor

      Super dangerous fire weather…

      Sudden fire.

      I have questions.

They have shut a bunch of power off in our neck of the woods for no good reason as well. It’s not like a tree is going to fall on a power line in a farm field.

      • Plinker762

My house is just outside of the mandatory evacuation zone and I’m in the city limits.

In California, the spent so little money on poleline maintenance, the hardware fails in the wind

      • Brochettaward

California has illegals to give healthcare and SNAP too you bigot.

      • Gustave Lytton

Thanks god it’s an election year, otherwise the hateful dyke would have copied Gov Low-T with an equally idiotic statewide burn ban. East side is dry and burns when a fire starts, but it’s been a mild summer on the west side. Drizzled this morning.

  16. Derpetologist

I watched Nolan’s Odyssey. It was OK. It would have been better movie if it stuck to source material and told the story in order. There were some odd choices. I guess everyone has to paint their own mustache on the Mona Lisa.

Polyphemus had a vertical eye and a nose cocked at an angle, like a turned knob. Scylla was pretty lame design for such an iconic monster. The Trojan Horse had no wheels from some odd reason. There’s an extended scene of the Trojans dragging it into the city.

On a related note, it’s pretty easy to string a bow if you use your leg as a brace.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gak6iSjF52w

Odysseus could string his bow not from strength, but because he was smart enough to use the right technique.

    • The Hyperbole

That’s why I never take days off.

      • Fourscore

        Good Morning, All

I get no days off either. The work load stays the same.

Good morning, Sean, Teh Hype, 4(20), Ted’S., slummy, and rhy!

    • slumbrew

patrols wrote 158 uniform traffic tickets, one hundred fourteen for the prohibition of commercial vehicles from operating on the parkway system; eleven others for vehicles with painted or displayed signs, names, or insignias

That’s some bullshit. You have commercial plates, or you don’t.

      • Threedoor

You pay road tax or you don’t.

If you pay you get to use the highway.

It’s BS that they are restricted.

Likely avoiding a toll road or a bad weigh station. Or servicing the local area.

  17. Fourscore

A little cooler this morning, below 60. Cuppa joe and then time to start the day. Quietly though so I don’t wake up Mrs F.

    • Chipping Pioneer

4(20) what’s your advice on retirement, as someone who’s been doing it for a while?

    • rhywun

I ate at a McDonalds a couple weeks ago where there was literally nothing available. No utensils, napkins, ketchup, anything. I don’t know if it was available behind the counter because I was not going to wait in a long line again while my food got cold upstairs just to ask.

      • Threedoor

        Two floor McDonald’s.

        Fancy.

    • Raven Nation

“ The DEP says the amount of plastic utensils found on New Jersey beaches in 2024 would stretch the length of five football fields. The single-use items are not banned, but customers will have to ask for them.”

This supports Sean’s claim. That doesn’t strike me as very much and I doubt the law will change that.

      • Ted S.

How much do they weigh in terms of giraffes?

      • Chipping Pioneer

By my calculation, that’s about 4500 individual utensils across the entire state.
