Dolly Day Afternoon Links

Yes, Cleveland jumped on the bandwagon of declaring 9/25 Dolly Day. I’ll be heading downtown for the Party Animals/Clowns Bananaball game tonight. In honor, we’ll be stopping at the Dolly themed bar. But you care not for these petty details, you are here for the links.

In other, dumber, Cleveland declarations…

Meanwhile… our precious orchestra!

In happier news. Best of luck to you Mr. Chubb. You deserved better than you got.

Always has been.

Another brewery appears to be winding down.

Damned homophobes!

There are reasons I don’t like Apple.

I’m of two minds on this. If people are wanting/needing to skip the action, there’s a game design problem there. On the other hand, most games allow for adjustment down to the point where you can faceroll bosses. On the gripping hand, if it’s a single player game, how you play doesn’t impact me directly, only future game design.

In sad news to the ska community, one of the founders of the Supernova Ska Festival has passed.

The show is fucking terrible, but really, I’m just not watching it right.

Unpopular opinion: Born Again has been mediocre at best.

C.H.U.D.s are back baby!

The Big Fire?

Fuck off wankers!

I’m going to drop one of my favorite drinks here today, for no other reason than I’m going to have a busy weekend:

Satan’s Whiskers

  • 2 part (0.5 oz) gin
  • 2 part (0.5 oz) orange juice
  • 2 part (0.5 oz) dry vermouth
  • 2 part (0.5 oz) sweet vermouth
  • 1 part (0.25 oz) Grand Marnier/Dry Curaco/orange liqueur
  • 3 dashes orange bitters

Yes, this drink is a lot. It requires a lot of careful small measurements, which are a pain in the ass, and getting the proportions right is a bitch. But when you nail it, this drink sings. The drink dates back to the pre-Prohibition era, the choice in orange liqueur identifies if the Whiskers are straight (Grand Marnier) or curled (curaco). The garnish is usually paired to the style, with the straight getting a wheel or straight orange zest; the curled with an express and twisted orange zest. Either work for either version, and can be skipped. I’d highly recommend that you know your glass capacities, as a smaller glass can easily get overfilled.

With that, I’ll let you get to the weekend, and let’s go Browns!

WE’RE THE CLEVELAND BROWNS!

Yes, Cleveland jumped on the bandwagon of declaring 9/25 Dolly Day.

Wasn’t aware this was a thing. I don’t hate it as much as the stupid fucking May The Fourth Be With You pun holiday.

I still don’t know what it is. Is it in one of the links?

    • Threedoor

The two towns in my valley did that this week too.

To the best of my knowledge she never came here.

Walt Disney, Bruce Jenner, and Brian Fuller at least have links to my area and they don’t have days.

      • Threedoor

And that gay coffee company guy.

      • rhywun

        Juan Valdez…?

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Cleveland has finally addressed one of the more pressing problems facing the city: Lake Erie’s name.

It’s the Gulf of Cleveland now. Or at least it is if Cleveland City Council has anything to say about it.

Council on Monday passed a resolution claiming a two-mile-wide swath of Lake Erie along the city’s shoreline and rechristening it the “Gulf of Cleveland,” apparently deciding that President Donald Trump shouldn’t have all the fun when it comes to redrawing maps with a Sharpie.

It’s just because they hate Canada and its glorious single payer healthcare, I’m sure.

I know that cloning was a big milestone, but it seems a bit excessive to give a day to celebrate a sheep.

If you were to ask iOS users how they felt about Apple’s decision to insert ads into Apple Maps, it would quickly become obvious that it was not a popular move. So when iPhone fans discovered that Apple has been inserting prompts for its own products into iOS, the reaction was predictably swift and furious.

The ‘ads’ in question appear in the Settings app in iOS. They can be found near the top of the iPhone’s display and promote several products to the user, including paid-for iCloud+ storage, free trials for services like Apple Music and Apple TV, and the AppleCare+ extended warranty.

Jesus. They already have a cult like customer base that will spend untold quantities of money on anything they shit out, regardless of how useless or ridiculous, and one of the few selling points of submitting yourself to their walled garden is that “at least it’s not just an ad platform like Android.”

    • Sean

Cuz I’m constantly in the settings tab.

      🙄

      • R C Dean

        What Sean said.

Android is Google. Google is the debil.

      • rhywun

And I don’t choose my OS over this. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • Threedoor

Apple has been in a downward slide since Jobs died.

Every iteration looks like and functions more like a PC.

      It sucks.

    Why now?

    Because you are ready, America.

    It is all Ohio.

    Always has been.

    Until Ohio decides otherwise.

    A+ schizo post.

I blame streaming. There’s retards out there now who know all the lore and own all the merch from games they’ve never actually played themselves, but just watch other people play. If and when they become players they want it to be as easy as spectating.

    • R.J.

Game walkthroughs are handy for irritating puzzles or when you just can’t figure out the pattern in a boss attack.
      Otherwise it’s all shite.

      • rhywun

I am literally incapable of enjoying certain kinds of gaming to the same extent as when I was younger and maybe more dextrous and/or had more time on my hands.

Gamers are getting older and some developers are recognizing it.

    • Pat

“I’m just going to have one cocktail tonight.”

    • Nephilium

That leads to the other problem. A sad looking cocktail in an oversized glass

Filling that to capacity with most cocktails would put most grown men down

      • R.J.

        “Most”

  8. Pat

Unpopular opinion: Born Again has been mediocre at best.

Even more unpopular opinion: capeshit has universally sucked since 2002 and we’re a solid decade and half past when this trend should have exhausted itself.

Any time I see a story about an orchestra I am reminded of Baumol’s cost disease.

    tl;dr-

    Musicians are overpaid.

Going for a picnic at Hickory Hall Polo Club last match of the year, our first time. It’s in Whitestown, same county as Carmel. This is a good example of the wealth bracket I’m currently in.

Should be a lot of fun! They encourage BYOEverything, and it’s $40 for a whole car to get in. So, not bad! This will be quite interesting and I’m excited for the boys, especially, to see it.

    • R.J.

Well, that sounds exciting! Do you have to wear a jacket?

    • rhywun

Do you get a free pony ride too?

most games allow for adjustment down to the point where you can faceroll bosses

I would replace “most” with “some” there. But I don’t play (e.g.) any of the games listed in the article so maybe my library is different. But the older I get, the more I demand better accessibility options. (Looking at you, Nintendo. 😠)

Visiting the in laws for a few days. Much stoicism needed.

The restaurant we’re going to tonight is named SMITH.

Oh, and here’s the view out our hotel window.

      • Chipping Pioneer

Don’t know why that was a reply.

      • Sean

        Eeeeewwww. Canada.

        😛

      • Gdragon

Make sure that you can pay for your meal at SMITH or you will have to wash dishes. And by wash dishes mean…

      • bacon-magic

STEVE SMITH BE GLAD TO SERVE YOU MEAT NOW.

    • Chipping Pioneer

How do you make triangular ice?

      • Nephilium

Different molds. If you want clear ice, you want it to freeze slowly in one direction. An easy way to do this is to put water in a cooler, and the cooler in the freezer.

TOO LOCAL NEWS: The logo is kinda dumb

Republicans Against the Free State Agenda is a coalition of citizens whose “goal is to break the hold the Free State Agenda has on the Republican Party by providing Republican voters with straightforward facts to evaluate independently,” per the organization. The Free State Project was started in 2001 with the idea of a “mass migration to concentrate libertarians in one small state,” and now has between 6,000-10,000 participants.

“We knew there were a bunch of great organizations getting the word out about the Free State Project, but it didn’t seem to penetrate with the Republicans… We thought it was an important issue for the Republican party to sort out, and if they didn’t sort it out, they’d be defined by it. The campaign is for the Republican party, it’s just for getting the truth out there, getting the facts out there; Republicans can make their own decisions,” Spokesperson Jennifer Peabody said.

Peabody said there are about a dozen concerned citizens in the coalition working on the campaign, which she said will be geared toward social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and X.com (formerly known as Twitter) to help spread awareness of the cause. The coalition will make regular posts several times each week until the election in November.

Peabody noted the group is made up of Republicans, moderate Democrats, and independents “trying to make the Republican party aware of what’s happening.”

    • R.J.

WTF? That makes no sense. Unless of course the goal is to seize power and enshittify everything.

      • DEG

NH GOP Establishment doesn’t like that libertarians are a growing power in the state Republican party.

      • Threedoor

Libertarianism is the heart of the Republican Party.

        That’s a quote right?

      • DEG

        That’s a quote right?

Close. The actual Reagan quote is:

“I believe the very heart and soul of conservatism is libertarianism.”

      • Threedoor

Thanks DEG. Too lazy to look it up.

Coming from a guy that wasent even all that conservative at least Reagan knew the origins of the party he became a part of.

The MAGA wing is that part of the party that is really not grounded at all. It’s your aunt that believes in the power of crystals while talking about Jesus married to the guy that has a thin blue line T-shirt who talked about black helicopters and FEMA camps in the 90s. They are close but don’t understand the foundation of liberty that the nation was based on and can’t come to grips with the fact that the institutions they take advantage of like social security, government schools and Medicare are why this country is so screwed up.

    • Threedoor

Shepards are not smart so the logo tracks.

TOO LOCAL NEWS: I think this is the first prominent Democrat to campaign with Warmington

At a joint appearance in Concord on Thursday, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear had nothing but praise for Democratic gubernatorial candidate Cinde Warmington. Literally.

Beshear, who also heads the Democratic Governors Association, would not commit DGA funding to Warmington’s campaign, which has struggled to raise money from the start.

“She’s a great candidate, and she’s pushing hard. The DGA stands behind Cinde,” Beshear said during their event at Brothers Cortado coffee shop. “We see a candidate that’s worked hard who has significant support. We’re coordinating with her campaign on a weekly basis, and we look forward to helping her win.”

But when it came to a financial commitment, the Kentucky Democrat deflected.

“We don’t announce our investments in advance because we don’t want to give the other side our next five moves.”

With less than 40 days to go until the election, Warmington reported raising less than $1 million in her latest filing, none of it from the DGA. By comparison, Republican Gov. Kelly Ayotte has raised $6.4 million, at least $2 million from the Republican Governors Association.

  14. The Late P Brooks

    At risk

“By running an unlicensed gambling operation, Polymarket has done more than just knowingly violate state law, they have put New Yorkers at risk, especially those underage who are most vulnerable to problem gaming,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in a statement.

Those kids should be in school, pitching pennies in the boys’ room.

  15. Sean

    *sigh*

10 minutes and I’m outta here.

  16. Sensei

LOK grips for my CZ came. They aren’t cheap, but the quality is legitimate. I can see why they are popular.

I’m a plain guy and normally would pick black G10, but wanted to try to be adventurous and mimic wood. Got dark red and black. It’s a reasonable approximation of wood so I’m happy.

The palm swell is much preferred even for my medium sized hands. Pattern is simple diamond cut.

    https://www.glibertarians.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/PXL_20260925_205445302_Original.jpeg

    • Threedoor

      That looks nice.

And by “palm swell” you mean…

      • Sensei

        True.

But for real, for whatever reason CZ puts flat sided grips on its competition oriented Shadow series. Other versions fill out the palm area for a thicker grip.

This mimics those grips, but for this frame. It seems really dumb as the aluminum grips it comes with aren’t cheap and I’m not alone in replacing them. It’s a common modification.

      • Threedoor

The handful of pistols I own were largely chosen by grip size.

Lots of guys complain about double stacked 45 pistols where I find them a little small.

I’ve got Steve Smith sized hands. Sadly not the rest of the equipment.

  17. Threedoor

    Always has been.

The map of Illusion of safety from Ohio is right.

Back in the day when we would save for a year as kids and send in a Lego catalogue order and wait 6 to 8 weeks for delivery, more than once out order was sent to Lewistown, Ohio and took another two weeks to find its way to Lewiston, Idaho. Because ID and OH are right next to eachother.

When I was in the army all the way back in 05 I had more than one east coaster respond to me when I told them where I was from with “Idaho, that’s next door to Ohio isn’t it?” After a while I simply replied in the affirmative.

I guess government schools in the US and Denmark have been shit for generations. Or the preferential hiring of veterans by the post office was a terrible idea.
