No joke for the title today, Not for any reason other than I can’t come up with something that works and is entertaining. So let’s go with some appropriate music, and get to the links.
The Kallax has long been the choice of board gamers.
Performative gaming. JFC.
Maybe because a large number of gamers are also collectors?
Speaking of that… I kept the boxes with feelies in them on bookshelves.
Usually, I’m not a big fan of Death of the Author, but I may make an exception.
This festival really stinks.
I’m holding out for the pieces in transparent aluminum.
To me, this reads as a way to move stock that isn’t being moved to the distilleries.
Pandering to fishermen and Italians.
‘Merica would have worked better.
In local (likely soon national) news.
Man, we should definitely put age gates on everything, what could go wrong?
You can’t fire question me! I quit!
The real problem facing women today.
If only there was some union of nations, or perhaps a coalition of countries that could provide this aid.
Thousands of kung-fu movie jokes cried out in agony.
For the drink today, I made a reference to it earlier this week, so I feel you need it:
Paper Plane
- 1 part (0.75 oz) bourbon
- 1 part (0.75 oz) Aperol
- 1 part (0.75 oz) Amaro Nonino Quintessentia (or another amaro/vermouth)
- 1 part (0.75 oz) lemon juice
This is a riff off the last word, which is gin based and uses Chartreuse as the bittering agent. All four ingredients get added to a shaker with ice, shaken until chilled and combined, and then strained into a chilled coupe glass.

With that, I’ll be off to the Cleveland Gaming Classic, and I leave you to enjoy your weekend.

My biggest problem is that it talks. Who wants their shelves to never shut up?
It should have been voiced by Dave Barry.
Iโm going to have to het the upgraded Skyrim just so I can get this DLC.
Good News! We use Artifical sapphire in place of glass in many applications. Which is Aluminum Oxide! So we have Transparent Aluminum.
I was just gonna say. AH-64D and Blackhawk canopies/windscreens are made from AlON. It’s amazing expensive, but also amazingly tough.
What better dishes to cook your Gagh in.
The oven mitt with Spock’s “Live Long and Prosper” sign may find its way into my kitchen drawers.
What you do in your private time is none of our business.
Do not use that as a marital aid. And for the love of Kahn don’t use the Vulcan Death Grip.
For the love of Madeline Kahn?
It’s twoo, it’s twoo.
Why would they do that?
I know it’s only one show now, but they want to expand it.
For Kung-Fu especially, the bad dubbing not matching the lips is part of the charm.
Agreed. That is a solution looking for a problem.
How about we colorize the old ones too!
Some of them have to be made brown and black, and don’t forget to use AI to gender swap some of them.
I’m waiting for howls from the sub only fans explaining how this will result in further English usage throughout the world.
That said I hate watching dubs – I much prefer subs.
I used to be that way, now I prefer dubs. If there is writing such as subs, I will read that instead of watching the movie. Which sounds silly, but means, for me at least, I miss the acting while I wait for the next chryon.
Dubbing sucks.
The exemptions cover road salt, heavily used in wintry states that border Canada, and imported cement that fuels northern construction projects. Fishing rod parts tied to manufacturers in Wisconsin and Iowa also got a reprieve, along with refined lead, electrical switchgear and paper products. Whiskey in containers larger than four liters are also exempt.
The carveouts caved to pressure from Republican lawmakers who have increasingly criticized the presidentโs trade war less than two months ahead of competitive races in Novemberโs midterms.
Thank goodness. I need cheap ammo!
“I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.”
Tens of millions of people fail to get humanitarian aid as global system crumbles
GOOD. We never should have been tagged as the world’s policeman or food supplier. I am definitely in a mood, as I have been covering a senior director’s job (person was never replaced) and a manager (will not be replaced) and this has gone on for 9 months. No attempt has been made to replace this person, nor compensate me for doing (2) other people’s jobs. Atlas Shrugged, motherf*ckers. Handle your own sh*t.
They just hired a replacement for a cow-worker who retired a couple months ago. I am stoically trying to think how much more this person who has the same rank as me is probably being paid.
trying “not” to think
Steal more office supplies.
Fuck off, commies.
Feel free to donate to your favorite kleptocracy but leave me out of it.
It’s not really a global system if America represents a single point of failure, now is it?
Also, I think the tens of millions of Latin American and African drag queens no longer receiving American checks to hand out condoms at schools will probably survive the ordeal.
I dunno about “fun” or “fast” but streaming anything was never, ever about making anything more “affordable” – quite the opposite.
And it’s the Guardian so like all leftists they have to blame BIG BAD DATA.
*goes over links* Long week? Somethin’ on your mind? Oh. Yes, there is.
Enjoy!
Being the โgood girlโ often means neglecting your own wants, needs, values, goals, and pleasure to make other people happy.
I guess the author never met a woman that got off on being called a “good girl”.
Knee socks … plaid skirt … that’s good. Er, maybe not the same thing.
*clears throat*
13 years of Catholic school man…
Disappointing. That ain’t Brittney Spears in 1999, when I was 12, discovering the world.
I call that being an adult, good, bad, boy or girl…
It isn’t like a boy was never told to simmer down, don’t be a pest, speak only when spoken too, etc.
Why, it was almost like they want everyone to be a good kid, and not a little hellion/whore.
J
Emphatically not me. One less tower of media to clutter the house.
Shhhhusssshhh
I wish I had been buying cartridge games back when my folks had a PC.
Why? Half of mine didn’t work 10 years later.
Apologies for the early OT: from the sidebar of the skunkfest article:
Cleveland Steakhouse Voted Best in the Country
I mean, there’s no reason it couldn’t be, as anyone with enough money can get prime-graded beef. It just seems like bigger cities or places that are traditional stockyards (NYC, Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston) would somehow come out on top.
That said, my go-to near home is Bern’s in Tampa. My other “always go here when visiting the city” is Doris Metropolitan in New Orleans.
What say y’all?
https://feastio.com/oldest-steakhouses-nyc/
I’ve done 4 out these 5. Funny enough I’ve never been to Peter Luger. Would visit any of them again.
Been to Peter Lugar, last time to Gage and Tolley. Quite nice, and they do good oysters, also.
Since I learned to cook steak at home, I rarely want to pay steakhouse prices. I’ve never been to the Marble Room, locals consider it more of a raw bar than a steak house.
The issue is you can’t get the same meat quality and it’s very difficult to dry age it at home.
Not that you can’t cook a good steak at home, but it won’t be the same without a lot of work.
My wife has gotten pretty good at dry aging.
There are suppliers you can buy the dry aged stuff from
What say yโall?
Chez Putrid is my goto. Sure the name’s a bit of a red-flag, but once you get past that, you can’t beat the meat.
Don’t you tell me what to do in the privacy of my own shower…
We tend to migrate to the best Asian restaurant in town when we go out to eat.
See in NYC if you want to combine Asian and steak that means Korean BBQ!
Can definitely recommend.
My first job in NYC was on 32nd Street. Koreans as far as the eye could see.
Putting McCormick & Schmick or The Palm on there is ridiculous. May as well have Ruth’s Chris or The Capital Grille.
On stage at the Republican National Committeeโs midterm convention, in private meetings just off-site in hotels around Dallas and in TV ads airing in between live coverage of the unusual spectacle, the partyโs main focus was painting Democrats as too extreme.
That’s nuts. Why would they do that?
FFS, just let that franchise die.
I never saw the need for a sequel (which I never finished) let alone… how many? Four more?!
It’s just going to be the first one, with Neo using a female avatar.
For Kung-Fu especially, the bad dubbing not matching the lips is part of the charm.
For some reason I find the ones dubbed with Australian accents to be especially hilarious.
On the same Ars Technica page:
โLike all matching programs, this would be synthetic in the sense that 2 GW of renewables wouldnโt directly power the data center,โ wrote Michael Thomas, CEO of the Cleanview data platform that tracks renewable energy and data center projects, in a LinkedIn post.
We are buying an indulgence here. We are still committing the environmental sin. Pay no mind.
Oracle tries to appease Stargate data center opponents with renewables push

I want to fly a bunch green-tards over, say, Shenzhen and kick them out of the plane so they can witness for themselves the environmental bona fides of the country that makes all their shit.
Am I misremembering that the Wachowskis were brothers? Or did they both change teams at some point?
Just reading the URL I thought that Bass had quit altogether. I am disappoint.
They both transed themselves and became the Wachowski sisters,
The Coen brothers remain sane.
Correct!

GITC is awesome.
The Japanese voice actress that was Major Kusanagi was one of my favorites for a variety of her roles.
She died at 64 several years ago and it broke my heart.
I remember reading about her death. Iโm largely tone deaf and never noticed the different voice actors across shows.
It likely comes from me studying their pronunciation.
That said I focus on voices in English as well.
What say yโall?
Absolute best steak dinner I ever had was in Las Vegas.
Some place in Nashville.
This one, hopefully.
Another of my “visit every time you’re in the city” places.
That looks super cool. Not the place though. Some white building my dad took me too
In 05.
September 11 is memorialized as a sad day in this country’s history, in no small part because we offered to give our enemies flying lessons.
But there was an earlier 9/11 that was a happier time, in no small part because civilization’s enemies were given flying lessons (sans airplanes).
Donโt violate the Prime Directive as my wife is fond of saying.
NYC Mayors meet. Post one-ups the “alleged” and “stated without evidence” promises: โI prayed for you,โ Giuliani, who is a devout Roman Catholic, told Mamdani as the two men shook hands, โGood job. OK.โ
The greeting โ which came at Ground Zero after Giuliani joined growing calls for Mamdani to skip the memorial services โ was awkwardly fraught, ๐๐จ๐๐ฒ ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ฑ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ญ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐๐ก๐๐ฏ๐ข๐จ๐ซ ๐๐ง๐๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ข ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐ง ๐ญ๐จ๐ฅ๐ ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ.’
Yuh-huh. Especially that last one.
“But his frown grows the longer they shake hands. So heโs not happy about the connection,โ Brown said after viewing footage of the interaction.”
Breathtaking wisdom on display. Trump’s signature, of course, reflects his aggressive, genocidal tendencies, I’m sure.
Yeah science, bitch!
I don’t know what you’re doing, but every time you (and only you) post in bold, it uses a different font that my tablets can’t render.
Are you not using the strong tag?
I found some documentation that says the b tag works as well. I marked this text with the b tag.
COOL LINK BRO
Huh. I use a silly site that lets me put in text and click a button for bold, italic, strike thru, etc. Tagging is vandalism and me no remember simple html. It it really as simple as /en or whatever?
*Intrepid face in sight, not yet affixed*
Install eyepiece and it’s just click a button.

Yes I am. And we have to talk about you using the wrong cover sheet on your reports.
As much as you love GoG, it’s probably not enough.
Have fun at the CGC, it looks like a good time!
โThat is him trying to turn out low-propensity Trump voters,โ the person said. โTo me, thatโs what this convention is for.โ
That couldn’t be because those Republican candidates are a bunch of low energy empty suits, could it?
“Yeah, we Dems use mail in ballots to get even the no-propensity voters to turn out.”
I guess the author never met a woman that got off on being called a โgood girlโ.
Good girls don’t
Political?
Altimeter Capital CEO Brad Gerstner took aim at heightened warnings from AI researchers, describing this weekโs discourse surrounding the technologyโs ability to cause human extinction as detached from reality.
โWhat I didnโt like this week is these hyperbolic scare tactics, which I think are hiding behind a political agenda,โ Gerstner told CNBCโs โHalftime Reportโ on Friday. โAnd we ignored all of the extraordinary steps already being taken unlike in the age of the internet, unlike with social media, to get ahead of these downsides.โ
They were merely voicing their sincere and carefully reasoned concerns.
Does AI also have the potential to intervene and stop launching of a nuclear war? Why not the ability to save us as great as the alleged ability to destroy?
Of course it is political. Well, everything is now – but especially everything around AI and data centers.
Why do I have the feeling this means “The FBI plotted a mass shooting they could then foil after finding some terminally online retard to cooperate.”
Why do I have the feeling this means โThe FBI plotted a mass shooting they could then foil after finding some terminally online retard to cooperate.โ
It’s a day that ends in “y”?
Hitler would be confused.
TW: euro-sportsball highlight…
To me this is one of the good things about the interwebz…this would have been a “I was there…” moment for a handful of people. Now, a lot more of us get to enjoy it:

Kevin Reddington milking the spotlight
Lindsay Clancy rejects the internet conspiracy theories accusing her ex-husband of killing their three children in 2023 and believes he has been unfairly targeted by online sleuths since her murder trial, her defense attorney Kevin Reddington told NBC News on Wednesday in a wide-ranging interview.
โShe knows, and itโs readily apparent that Patrick has been set upon and his life has been turned upside down into a nightmare that he doesnโt deserve. Period. Full stop,โ attorney Kevin Reddington said Wednesday.
Later in the article:
Three jurors, including the foreperson, told NBC Boston on Tuesday that the majority favored finding Clancy not guilty by lack of criminal responsibility, while one holdout wanted to convict. But that juror expressed reasonable doubt, they said, and still wouldnโt agree with the remainder of the jury.
Reddington, however, defended the jurorโs right to his opinion Wednesday, saying it โdoesnโt matterโ what was going through his head.
โHeโs got every right to do that, and I would defend that right, but not to refuse to apply the law,โ Reddington said. โThis is where you draw the line.โ
Good to know this dude would tell you to follow laws such as 1935s Nuremburg Race Laws or the Fugitive Slave Act.
Not sufficiently stoic.
*ron scowls*
What I got from that “good girl” thing was “Be a self-absorbed petulant bitch.”
โHeโs got every right to do that, and I would defend that right, but not to refuse to apply the law,โ Reddington said. โThis is where you draw the line.โ
Apply which law? The law against methodical infanticide?
I posted the jury instructions used in MA for the insanity defense (lack of criminal responsibility as they call it, and I couldn’t find the original link) a few days ago. Reasonable doubt refers to what discussed in those jury instructions. In order to claim lack of criminal responsibility in MA, you have to admit to committing the crime. She also admitting to killing the kids in her civil suit against her doctors.
So, the fire down the street, while contained, was not out. They ended up cutting the power for safety reasons, and eventually got the darn thing out. It further impaired my intended plans for the afternoon. I just wandered off to retail establishments for their AC.
After I got the notifications from the power company that I had electricity back, I came wandering back. The fire trucks were driving off just before I got to my house. I got the grass trimmed in the margin and booted up my computers. Now I’m grousing here.
“I just wandered off to retail establishments for their AC.”
How Singaporean of you. Glad you’re back in. Good for the goose, good for the grouse.
My house doesn’t ventillate naturally with just open windows. So with neither fans nor AC, it turns into a solar oven. Plus, the amount of smoke wouldn’t do so great to breathe while waiting for things to return to normal
“…the amount of smoke wouldnโt do so great to breathe”
Yeah, but think of the bbq opportunities! You don’t need a bed.
Lookie where Iโm going tomorrow and SHOCKER!!! My husband has decided to accompany me, and trust me, this is not easy for him to do.
Aww, Kansas City is a bit out of my way this trip.
This is one of those times when I can’t believe how the stars align. So, this library is very prestigious. So, in my writerly godness, I decided it should have a vast collection of alchemy texts (because my heroine is a conservation/restoration librarian). I’m just writing along on my project, thinking nobody’s gonna care, and then I find out THEY DO!! They have a pretty massive collection, and I totally thought I just made that up, because it just made sense to me that they would.
๐๐
Rational extrapolation turns out to be correct!
Also, my thoughts on time appear to have been thought about before, and it appears those thoughts are called โquantum mechanics.โ I think. Donโt @ me.
Ooooh! Would happily attend. Would be most interested in the older stuff. Now I’ve mentioned Singapore, that’s where I saw the best science /history exhibit in my immediate memory. They had Da Vinci exhibit with sketches and stuff, and they also built some of them so you could see his ideas in real size. They had drawings and books, but a very ‘library’ atmosphere.
I wanna go to their arboretum! Do have fun! I could almost be tempted to go in a costume I don’t yet have.
Anyone seen Coyote v ACME? I’m thinking I may just go see it this weekend. How ’bout that.
I didnโt hate it.
I enjoyed it. Go see it.
