*narrows gaze at mirror*

A clarifying past 2 weeks in sportsball – the football teams I watch (sometimes with some hopefulness) have shown they are not ready to do much this year. Baseball, same thing. I am going to have a lot of free time this Fall.

Here are some links.

  • A very New York Post article.
  • I wonder if they will actually be used for, you know, fighting.
  • Maybe Canada has let in enough followers of Teh Religion of Peace?
  • Switzerland too? I still have yet to hear a good reason a small and buildable-land starved Switzerland has for taking in people, housing them and paying them to…sit and enjoy the taxpayer money?

Music….no inspiration today. Up to you all.

Comments are open and all yours.

“Circumstances surrounding the shooting — which occurred near the Sons of Jacob synagogue and on the night of Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year in Judaism — were not immediately clear.

“Jewish Torontonians should not need police presence to observe Yom Kippur, or to simply live their day-to-day lives,” Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow said in a statement.

“As long as we contend with rising antisemitism and hate, we will spare no expense keeping the community safe.”‘

I highly doubt you’ll spare no expense. You’ll carefully avoid saying what’s likely true, cuz your’e afraid Peaceful Muslims will kill you if you inflame them further. (I guess Silence is Violence and speech is expensive, to be fair.)

Yeah, the ambiguity is palpable 🙄

Although to be fair, we shouldn’t rush to judgment and blame Muslims. Canada has no shortage of home-grown, unhinged lefty antisemites. Although there’s a lot of overlap between that cohort and “is shitlessly terrified of firearms.”

“The proposed sale will improve Saudi Arabia’s capability to deter current and future threats by strengthening its homeland defence, and improving interoperability with US forces,” the State Department said in a statement.

Doubt. The Saudis will treat their shiny new toys the way individual sheiks treat their collections of Bentleys. A lot of “Hey, look what I can afford!” and very little maintenance or operations.

It’s one of the reasons why Arabs lose wars.

    • EvilSheldon

The Saudi officer corps is 100% connected idiot sons and has been this way for decades, because the House of Saud is absolutely terrified of an internal coup.

Which brings to mind a quote from an old D&D sourcebook I read once – “He who watches his back, meets death from the front.”

    • EvilSheldon

BTW, that’s an interesting article. Most of the criticisms that it levels at Arab military forces, can be reasonably expanded to third-world military forces in general, and third-world culture even more generally.

“Muh Globalism” always sounded tinfoil-hattish to me, but I cannot wrap my head around this trend of government officials and politicians promoting policies that actively harm their own countries. Someone is going to write books about this someday.

    • rhywun

Sometimes the most obvious explanation is the right one.

      Eh, Davos i

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

        Jebus, damn komputer.

Davos is in Switzerland, not too surprising.

    • Evan from Evansville

      1) Adorable.
      2) Pup’s jealous cuz his wing-man game’s getting stolen by another beard.

Will the House of Saud still be running Saudi Arabia by the time those planes are ready for delivery?

    • Necron 99

Kind of like giving the Shah of Iran F-14s, now we have to destroy all we have in storage so they don’t get their grubby mitts on spare parts.

    In an all-hands meeting…
He started with a bike safety presentation.
WHAT DOES THAT HAVE TO DO WITH DESIGNING AIRPLANES?!?!?!

    • PutridMeat

Well the first plane was built by bicycle builders, so the connection seems self-evident.

      • Evan from Evansville

        ^^ He’s right, ya know.

    • The Other Kevin

It’s a subtle way of telling you all you’re laid off.

      • R.J.

        On yer bike! Go home!

  6. Evan from Evansville

Big news! Work got the drug test and I’m “all cleared.” They asked when I could start and mentioned they need three days to get me in the system. I said I’m ready and flexible to start ASAP, and I can start on Thurs or Fri if they need those days, or on Monday if that’s easier for them.

She’s getting in touch with future manager to see when works best and she’ll get back to me. This is reassuring. I’d probably prefer to start this week, just to have a day or two in the books before starting five in a row. *shrug*

Interesting things, abound and ahead. Looks like bringing some Gatorade to my interview didn’t hurt! (Perhaps it helped! ‘Zero’ shows my no-sugar commitment, and Lemon-Lime just shows I’m a wild and crazy guy! (That’s good, in this instance!))

      • R.J.

I usually pass interviews if I also bring a martini for the hiring manager.

      • Pat

You’re reading too much into drink choice at the interview.

Nonsense. You should always arrive at an interview with a nice 20 year old single malt Scotch so they know your value.

      • Evan from Evansville

“You’re reading too much into drink choice at the interview.”

I never took it seriously, just poking fun at it. Give people time to think about something, and something negative will always erupt. The irony of prosperity, indeed.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

“Nonsense. You should always arrive at an interview with a nice 20 year old single malt Scotch so they know your value.”

That you confuse cost with value is a good thing to show them?

    • Necron 99

      Congratulations!

Oh, and remember: next Friday… is Hawaiian shirt day. So, you know, if you want to, go ahead and wear a Hawaiian shirt and jeans.

      • R.J.

Also, don’t forget Tattoo Thursday. You have to show up with a fresh facial tat.

      • Pat

We unironically did Hawaiian shirt day a few months ago. And I unironically donned my best Hawaiian shirt for the occasion.

      • Evan from Evansville

I don’t have either, but I do have a plan. I’ll get a tat of a Hawaiian shirt right on my cock. Then, during my sexual harassment training, I’ll show that on Pantsless Tuesdays, the shirt unbuttons when I’m fully engorged. Getting the stitching right shows dedication.

That way, whenever they see me ’round co-workers and pictures of their family, they’ll know I’m serious, going to the post for a lei up.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

      Alright EV!

    • Evan from Evansville

A single 20-year-old may be too old for them, and likely not something I wanna give up. (Walt, tho? I’d ask rhy first.)

Israel has previously voiced concerns about Riyadh buying F-35s, despite a push to normalise relations.

It took Israel like 5 years of in-house software fixes to even get the F-35 air worthy. By the time the Saudis are flying them we’ll probably be onto the next 2 trillion dollar clown show.

Google has been fined €403m (£345m) by the Republic of Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) over its handling of location data.

The penalty – one of the largest of its kind imposed by the Irish watchdog authority – followed an inquiry launched into the tech giant six years ago, following complaints from several European consumer rights organisations.

On Monday the DPC said its investigation found Google had processed data in a manner that was not “lawful”, “fair” or “transparent”.

    Okay.

    • rhywun

Party at an Irish government facility!

    • Pat

Can’t say I weep for Google in this scenario. Their data processing practices are abysmal, and they, along with Apple, have been parking money offshore in Ireland to avoid taxes. Cozying up to the Euros bit you in the ass, did it? More’s the pity.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Well, somebody has to pay for their welfare state!

    • Evan from Evansville

Yeah. Uh. Just make up a number, and crimes, apparently, and wonder why people stop doing business in your country.

Or, don’t do that, and let China take care of it for ya. Yeah?

  9. The Other Kevin

On of my teammates threw a surprise birthday party for me Saturday. They’re always joking about me having a concussion so almost every day they wish me a happy birthday because I was sure to forget my actual birthday. He threw a real party for me 2 months early. Talk about commitment to a joke. 🙂

      • The Other Kevin

        I don’t remember.

      • slumbrew

        *golf clap*

    • R.J.

      Those are some great friends.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

      Awesome!

And you should follow it up with asking them what are they doing for your birthday every practice.

  10. The Late P Brooks

Talk about commitment to a joke.

It was a surprise, wasn’t it?

    • The Other Kevin

Yes! My wife helped plan it. She told me the party was for him.

  11. The Late P Brooks

He continued: “As a result of Google’s failures… individuals could have been unaware that their location was being used to, for example, influence them with ads or to infer their interests, and could lose control over their personal data.

    Crikey!

    • rhywun

      Converse apologized anyway

      Say it with me…

  12. rhywun

So I got grief at the DMV MVC because some of my documents have my complete name, some are missing my first name (which I don’t use) or have a first initial there. Maybe the application was approved? They took my money. Guess I’ll find out in a couple weeks.

  13. The Late P Brooks

    Converse apologized anyway.

The CEO of Converse (who- or what-ever it may be) should go on record asking, “What the fuck is wrong with you people?”
