We used to watch Captain Planet in elementary school. Sigh.
Good find, that article, Michael Crichton’s: “Environmentalism is a religion,” first published in ’03. It’s very good. Never read him, but I’ve seen likely a dozen of ‘his’ movies. (Ranging from spectacular to fairly cringe. Not necessarily his fault.)
“There’s an initial Eden, a paradise, a state of grace and unity with nature, there’s a fall from grace into a state of pollution as a result of eating from the tree of knowledge, and as a result of our actions there is a judgment day coming for us all. We are all energy sinners, doomed to die, unless we seek salvation, which is now called sustainability. Sustainability is salvation in the church of the environment. Just as organic food is its communion, that pesticide-free wafer that the right people with the right beliefs, imbibe.
Eden, the fall of man, the loss of grace, the coming doomsday—these are deeply held mythic structures. They are profoundly conservative beliefs. They may even be hard-wired in the brain, for all I know. I certainly don’t want to talk anybody out of them, as I don’t want to talk anybody out of a belief that Jesus Christ is the son of God who rose from the dead. But the reason I don’t want to talk anybody out of these beliefs is that I know that I can’t talk anybody out of them. These are not facts that can be argued. These are issues of faith.
And so it is, sadly, with environmentalism. Increasingly it seems facts aren’t necessary, because the tenets of environmentalism are all about belief. It’s about whether you are going to be a sinner, or saved. Whether you are going to be one of the people on the side of salvation, or on the side of doom. Whether you are going to be one of us, or one of them.”

At the end of a campaign beginning April 1948 called Plan Dalet, in which Zionist forces attacked, conquered, and depopulated cities, villages, and territories in Mandatory Palestine in preparation for the establishment of a Jewish state, and just before the expiration of the British Mandate for Palestine, Zionist leaders announced the Israeli Declaration of Independence on 14 May 1948.

The plan’s tactics involved laying siege to Palestinian Arab villages, bombing neighbourhoods of cities, forced expulsion of their inhabitants, and setting fields and houses on fire and detonating TNT in the rubble to prevent any return.[10] Zionist military units possessed detailed lists of neighborhoods and villages to be destroyed and their Arab inhabitants expelled.[10]
***
For a while, a key was a Palestinian symbol, because fleeing Arabs locked up their houses with the expectation they’d return in the near future.
***
Goldmann reported that Ben Gurion had told him in private in 1956:[76]
Why should the Arabs make peace? If I was an Arab leader I would never make terms with Israel. That is natural: we have taken their country. Sure, God promised it to us, but what does that matter to them? Our God is not theirs. We come from Israel, it’s true, but two thousand years ago, and what is that to them? There has been anti-Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault? They only see one thing: we have come here and stolen their country. Why should they accept that?

Why would a Zionist lie about what another Zionist said? Especially is it makes Zionism look bad?

Are you really treating Wikipedia as an unbiased source?
Derpetologist
on July 19, 2025 at 9:12 pm
There are many ways to argue dishonestly, but the only way to do otherwise is to find errors in fact and logic.
Sheesh, aren’t you supposed to be a law talking guy?
I heard this exact same thing from a Catholic friend of my mom’s. She didn’t believe the Church called for the salvation of the “perfidious Jews”. So I pulled up the wiki article. She said it’s unreliable. Fine, let’s go to the cited source – a prayer book in French and Latin.
***
After World War II, Eugenio Zolli, the former Chief Rabbi of Rome and a convert to Roman Catholicism, asked Pope Pius XII to excise the adjective perfidis from the prayer for the Jews.[18] Professor Jules Isaac, a French scholar of Catholic-Jewish relations, did so as well in an audience with Pius in 1949. Pius responded with a public declaration that the Latin word perfidus means ‘unbelieving’, not ‘perfidious’ or ‘treacherous’.[19] Pope John XXIII later made that change official.[20]
As part of his major revision of the Holy Week liturgy in 1955, Pope Pius XII instituted kneeling for this petition as at the other petitions of the litany, so that the prayer read:
Let us pray also for the faithless Jews: that almighty God may remove the veil from their hearts; so that they too may acknowledge Jesus Christ our Lord. Let us pray. Let us kneel. [pause for silent prayer] Arise. Almighty and eternal God, who dost not exclude from thy mercy even Jewish faithlessness: hear our prayers, which we offer for the blindness of that people; that acknowledging the light of thy Truth, which is Christ, they may be delivered from their darkness. Through the same our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
***
There are a number of Glibs who look at Israel with rose-colored glasses. While it’s true that the Arabs aren’t responsible for the Holocaust, it’s also true that there was never really a Palestinian country. It was always part of some larger empire. After the Holocuast, it’s understandable that the Jews would do whatever it took to secure a homeland to ensure their survival. And hostilities were started by the Arabs.
***
Did you know that Netanyahu’s real family name is Mileikowsky? Did you also know that every Israeli Prime Minister changed their name to sound more Jewish or Middle Eastern? Investigative journalist Richard Medhurst describes the litany of Israeli politicians who abandoned their Eastern European names to create the pretense of a stronger connection to the Levant.
***

I subscribed to it about 2005 to 2008 or so. I remember one segment about Indiana Jones movies they’ll have to make now that Harrison Ford is so old, and they were like “Indiana Jones and Those Damn Kids Playing on the Lawn Again” and “Indiana Jones and the Search for a Mattress with Good Lower Back Support”. It was inherently comical that they would ever make another Indiana Jones movie with the star being so old now.
It was a case of art predicting real life.

I have to look away when my Ladyfriend fast forwards the commercials or I wont have a good time bouncing off the floor.
Ooof. Sorry, Yusef. It was quite eye-opening to see (and actually pay attention to) those warnings the first few times when I had no clue. Frightening uncertainty. I’m thankful I haven’t had an issue with flashes /strobes, to my knowledge. (I remember *waking up* in odd hospitals and spots, but no memory of a seizure itself. Once the ‘aura’ intensifies, I s’pose the Memory Switch gets flicked off. (Thanks Brain, no sarc. Good executive decision.))
I dig it evan, when in doubt, keep close to the floor so your head don’t bounce,
Cheers
I wonder how much that back glass costs.
Does that include the cost of the time machine? I’d be astounded if anybody has one on the shelf.
One of my friends had one (early ’80s, probably). It looks cool but it’s still a Buick. A big wallowing Buick.
A buddy of
Mine had a 71 and a 72.
The 73 was not well loved. Its lines and bumpers changed enough to make it look more portly.
The rear glass was more available than the cars were. They rusted bad so people would scrap them but save the glass. Ended up being a surplus of glass.
I would catch Captain Planet in a net and force him to watch as I sawed a branch from one of his beloved trees. Then I would beat him to death with it.
Piss on him.

A ‘ strip club’ for Spud is most likely one of JR Simplots potato peeling factorys.
He likes watching them make french fries. The process has a certain appeal.
You know that when they start peeling it off, he yells “OreIda!”
And tips them with tater tots.

If the Israelis tell you to demolish your house, you have a chance to do it yourself. Otherwise, they do it for you with a one-minute warning and charge a fee.
How nice of them.

Hmm, who started the war of Israeli independence?
Could it be Israel?

At the end of a campaign beginning April 1948 called Plan Dalet, in which Zionist forces attacked, conquered, and depopulated cities, villages, and territories in Mandatory Palestine in preparation for the establishment of a Jewish state, and just before the expiration of the British Mandate for Palestine, Zionist leaders announced the Israeli Declaration of Independence on 14 May 1948.

I’m mostly pro-Israel, but it’s stupid to pretend that Zionism is anything except Manifest Destiny on a much smaller scale.
With the minor difference that the Americans had not been driven out of the land they manifest-destinied some centuries earlier.
I’ll be sure to remember that loophole if I ever have trouble finding a place to stay in Ireland.
Fuck, there’s a bar named after me in Tralee:

I guess it’s more accurate to say I’m named after the bar…

Curious how many 10 year old Palestinian girls know perfect English with no accent whatsoever.
I noticed that. Great accent, but a few grammar and usage mistakes. That is typical for someone who learns another language at a young age.
This Russian guy has a minor accent. He learned English from playing video games online during his teens.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Maf1E5BSklM
Girls are better at learning languages because they like to talk.
Case in point: Hanoi Hannah started learning English as a girl because she wanted to understand the dialog in Gone With the Wind.

And you believe her to be some random Palestinian girl and not the child of the elites at best?

The plan’s tactics involved laying siege to Palestinian Arab villages, bombing neighbourhoods of cities, forced expulsion of their inhabitants, and setting fields and houses on fire and detonating TNT in the rubble to prevent any return.[10] Zionist military units possessed detailed lists of neighborhoods and villages to be destroyed and their Arab inhabitants expelled.[10]

For a while, a key was a Palestinian symbol, because fleeing Arabs locked up their houses with the expectation they’d return in the near future.

Are you really treating Wikipedia as an unbiased source?
Amen.

Rose-colored something.
I hope they all have fun.

Long awesome article about MAD magazine,
https://www.tabletmag.com/sections/arts-letters/articles/mad-magazine-files
I arrived a little later to the party (about ten years after the author) but yeah, it made regular appearances in my house in the late 70s/early 80s. The one I remember the most is the ST:TMP issue.
Fresh head-buzz and shower. I feel so much more civilized now.

lol I got sucked into an internet vortex and landed on the website of some goth night I used to attend 25 fucking years ago.
something something old
And yes, it dates from 25 years ago.
Back when we had a proper internet.
Amusingly, I relied those years entirely on a buddy who knew where and when to go. There are so very many venues I have zero memory of, largely because I was so drunk and/or drugged. I *think* I remember the linked joint but I am not entirely sure.
Sheesh. I had a black metal phase the last year of high school and the first couple years of living on my own. I’m glad there was no such corresponding “scene” where I live, or who knows what kind of shithead deeds I would have done in the name of “evil”. I just sat in my apartment listening to it and reading about church arson incidents in Scandinavia.
“But when I became a man, I put away the childish things,” etc. etc.

Kinda nice Saturday is my workweek’s Hump Day. Stay at home or go to church, shoppers. Chicago owns the best record in the majors and serendipity strikes again. Off work at 2 and will arrive just in time for the first pitch as your Cubs try to finish their sweep of the Red Sox at Wrigley.
*beamy-smug face* This team is fucking special. We lost our (maybe 2nd?) best pitcher in the first week of the season, but damn. Uh. We’re goooood. May it continue, tho regardless, we still took (at least) two of three.
No snark, sleep as long as y’all can. On Wed., my ‘Sunday,’ looks like the family is going to Holiday World in Santa Claus, IN. Still family-owned, if I’m not mistaken. That place is fucking amazing. Worth a day trip.
