Saturday Morning Oh-fishul Links

“I just don’t see what’s wrong with painting dicks on my house.”

So this week was my fist taste of political power. I am now an officer of our little village with a seat on the planning board (think of the worst HOA ever). We’re looking at a whole pile of code revisions, and when I say “looking,” I mean at at atomic force microscope level. One big advantage of my new responsibility is being plugged more forcefully into village gossip and getting advance warning of soon-to-be-rolled-out changes, both legally and who’s going to be doing what with their properties. I should point out that, despite the deeply Progressive (with a capital P) politics here, the board is 100% white and has an average age of about 108.

But there was pizza, so not all was lost.

Birthdays today include an anti-vaxxer who had a close shave; a guy who was more archetype than stereotype; a guy who was brave and worldly; a woman who pre-dated Dick Martin; one of FDR’s useful idiots; the live action Betty Rubble; Don Imus’s spirit animal; my nemesis when I had a young child; my favorite pitcher to watch when I was a kid; a guy who made a stunning proportion of my favorite movies; a guy who, every time I hear him sing, makes me wonder, “Why, exactly, is he famous?”; one of my teenage celebrity crushes- intriguingly large mouth and stunning legs; a chick who, true to TMBG, wants a prosthetic forehead on her real head; and a guy most famous for not fucking Mena Suvari.

And now we shall not fuck the Links.

I’m sure the former grifters who are grasping to get that sweet sweet flow of money going would never make shit up for propaganda purposes.

The shocking thing to me is that this lasted as long as it did.

I’m shocked that a hack lawyer is trying to sue.

There may be a critical mass of stereotypes here.

One must take The Resistance very seriously because these are very serious people.

At some point, the grift ends. And here’s a non-paywalled version.

I posted this a couple years ago, but it seems like a good week to look again. This was Mangione before his success at Easy Listening. Some real jazz stellar played superbly. And without going over to YouTube, see if you can guess the bass player (it’s not Larry David, the drummer is not Epstein, and the sax player is not Bob Ross). The Old Guy enjoyed the entire hour.

Hmmm… I’m sensing minor league level Pelosi trading opportunities here… The trappings of power call out!

All grand corruption is built on a base of petty corruption?

  2. Pat

I should point out that, despite the deeply Progressive (with a capital P) politics here, the board is 100% white and has an average age of about 108.

The progressive activist base is either that, or college kids, and college kids aren’t applying to the planning board.

    • juris imprudent

a chick who, true to TMBG, wants a prosthetic forehead on her real head

Pah! She’s just too concerned about the prophets to pay attention to anyone else’s dominions….

HOF Robin Roberts. 14 victories short of 300. Would have easily surpassed that if he pitched for a better team than Phillies. Complete games in career was 305 which is unimaginable in today’s game.

      • Old Man With Candy

I saw him pitch for the Orioles, a better team than the Phillies.

[The Hill] Democrats ramp up town hall offensive in GOP districts with focus on Epstein

    • rhywun

Wait till the Dems figure out that their sudden infatuation with Epstein is not going to draw much attention away from Tulsi’s efforts to root out all the crooks they’re covering for. Not that I expect much to become of that but they are clearly shaking in their boots so who knows.

      • Common Tater

The anti-Russia gate thing is crickets on CNN, MSNBC, etc. So most of them probably don’t even know about it, or would care if they did.

      • juris imprudent

Are you kidding, CNN ran John Brennan’s denial of all wrongdoing!

    • R C Dean

I don’t know why the Dems think packing town halls with activists and paid shills is going to move the needle for them.

      • rhywun

The seriously think the Epstein kerfuffle is gonna take down Trump or something. That’s the best they’ve got. It’s unreal.

      • juris imprudent

What’s even more fun (as I’ve trolled my lefty/TDS FB friends) is asking them – if Biden had this, why didn’t his admin release it?

There may be a critical mass of stereotypes here.

Given the West Coast increasing insanity (even infected San Diego these days)… I’m starting to wonder if the Navy will be able to have any actual bases between the Canal and Hawaii (who at least from what I can tell is ultra-Proggie but knows who butters their bread, unlike SF, Portland, Seattle, etc.). Just depressing when you compare shipyards and shipping activity in the ’40s to now.

And yes… crazy cat lady should be laughed out of court — but given Seattle, probably won’t be.

  15. Muzzled Woodchipper

I simply can’t suffer the fucking “Colbert was killed by an anti-Trump comment” nonsense. It’s so fucking stupid that flies in the face of reality specifically to serve a political purpose.

He was a hack who lowered himself on the alter of mainstream progressive politics which has just lost bigly in mainstream society. He wasn’t a comedian, at least not anymore, but a propagandist of the worst sort who was bleeding $40M(!!!!) a year in a market that is all but completely dead. He was only allowed to stay on air that long because of politics. If he were anything other than a progressive mouthpiece he’d have been canned long ago.

But no, it MUST be that Trump is a dictator.

This shit (the imperative nature of the left to politicize everything) to is beyond tiresome. Can we go back to them feeling defeated and have them shut the fuck up again?

    • rhywun

The left is watching their total grip on power crack just a tiny bit and it’s driving them insane. Because they are wrong about literally everything, their lashing out is getting increasingly nonsensical and desperate. So no, they are not going to shut the fuck up any time soon.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

I think I’m with you on this. No power over much of anything in the public sphere, and losing power, even if only a little) where, until now, it’s been unquestioned (academia, the media, etc) has driven them off the edge. I just wish they could let normies normy without constantly shouting at clouds like crazy people.

      • juris imprudent

Let’s not forget the original outrage machine over Epstein was mostly in the MAGA ranks. I just marvel that the Democrats can now roll on about a pedophile when just a couple of years ago they were defending grooming.

Even as the battle continues, Media Matters stands as an example of how legal warfare waged by powerful ideological opponents can squelch influential voices and stifle political dissent. The group says it has dialed back its criticism of Mr. Musk and the Trump F.T.C. Media Matters has also been frozen out by some allies. And it has faced plummeting staff morale, rising infighting and security concerns.
All that has proved quite a change in fortune for the influential group.
Media Matters raised nearly $250 million in the two decades between its creation in 2003 and the end of 2023, establishing itself as a force in Democratic politics by effectively undermining major right-wing media figures and politicians.
The bleak outlook now facing the group underscores the serious harms that can be inflicted when the Trump administration and its allies train the vast resources of government or billionaire bank accounts on perceived enemies.

A grenade is missing from the scene of an explosion at a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department training facility that killed three members of its arson and explosives unit, authorities said Friday.

At the time of the July 18 blast, the veteran deputies were working on two “military-style” grenades that had been taken into custody by authorities. One of the grenades detonated, and the other is unaccounted for, Sheriff Robert Luna said, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. The agency is investigating the explosion and is expected to publish a final report in 45 days.

Luna said authorities X-rayed special enforcement bureau vehicles, searched all around the blast area and examined office spaces and even the gym and haven’t found it.

“You get the drift. We have looked at everything out there that we possibly could,” he said, adding that no one from the public has had access to the area.

    ——-

Luna said that since the explosion, he has called for an independent review of the policies and practices of the arson and explosives team and has already changed how they handle these types of situations.

“All future explosive devices, inert or not, will be treated as if they are all live and will be disposed of accordingly,” he said.

“GOP rep urges DOJ to investigate if Fire Aid benefit funds went to LA fire victims

Congressman Kevin Kiley wrote to Attorney General Pam Bondi on Friday, requesting an inquiry into the $100 million raised at the celebrity “Fire Aid” concerts held in Los Angeles for wildfire victims. The funds were distributed to nonprofits and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) rather than directly to disaster victims, according to recent reports.”

“442 child migrant “sponsors” have been arrested on suspicion of child abuse or other crimes after the Biden administration allowed 450,000 illegal migrant children into the US without adult supervision. This comes as the Trump administration has been able to locate 13,000 of the minors that were allowed into the country under the border policies of the previous administration.”

If he didn’t have presidential immunity, Biden should be charged with child sex trafficking.

    Lofty rhetoric

Wisconsin Democratic Lt. Gov. Sara Rodriguez entered the battleground state’s open race for governor Friday by calling President Donald Trump a “maniac,” as she attempts to differentiate herself in what is expected to be a crowded primary.

    ——-

“We’ve got a maniac in the White House,” Rodriguez said in a campaign launch video. “His tariffs are killing our farmers and his policies are hurting our kids.”

As governor of Wisconsin, she will secede from the union and declare war.

A registered nurse, Rodriguez previously worked as a health care executive and an epidemic intelligence service officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She has a master’s degree in public health.

In her first run for office in 2020, when she was elected to the Legislature, Rodriguez said she was motivated to get into politics because of how Republicans handled the COVID-19 pandemic.

    Never saw that coming.
