IFLA: The “It’s Back” Edition of the Horoscope for the Week of Aug 3

by | Aug 3, 2025 | IFLA | 59 comments

Yup, It’s MERCURY RETROGRADE time again. It’s not as bad as it was earlier though. Next week a child of chaos will be born (not the Antichrist, that’s a completely different set of signs. ) which is really next weeks news. I only mention it because this week is kind of undifferentiated. The planets are in the middle of their houses, the former alignments are falling apart , and really the only notable signs are that on the sixth a balance gets destroyed and is that the seventh is a good day for nookie. Better than usual I mean.

Leo: Knight of Swords reversed – Imprudence, incapacity extravagance. Looks like someon’s hgoing to have a great birthday.

Virgo: 8 of Cups – Discovering a new goal/objective, leaving behind comforts

Sagittarius: 2 of Wands – Winning so much you become tired of winning.

Capricorn: Death – No sugarcoating it, this one’s pretty bad.

Aquarius: 4 of Swords – Turning someone else’s problem into an advantage for yourself.

    Let’s you and him fight

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s top adviser urged the U.S. to “strangle” Russia’s economy by imposing secondary sanctions on Moscow’s trading partners, as the White House push for a ceasefire appears to languish.

“Sanctions are working,” Andriy Yermak, the head of Zelenskyy’s office, wrote on Telegram on Sunday, citing data he said shows a collapse in Russian railway capacity over the past 12 months.

“The economy, geared for war, cannot withstand the pressure and is holding on only through the sale of energy resources,” Yermak wrote. “It is possible to strangle the economy with secondary tariffs proposed in the USA.”

Yermak appeared to be referring to proposals from President Donald Trump and a bipartisan group of senators to impose secondary sanctions on nations doing business with Russia, particularly those purchasing fossil fuels from the country. China and India are among the top importers of Russian energy products.

Latch onto that tar baby harder. Don’t let go.

Aries has another week of suckitude.

The video on HEB was fascinating. Be an industry innovator and don’t expand for the sake of expansion seems to be a winning business model. I had no idea the “aid arm” of the company existed, but it is no surprise that it is more effective and efficient than FEMA. Thanks for posting.

don’t expand for the sake of expansion

I wish my employer would take that to heart. They’re aggressively chasing new customers and massively overpromising on what we can deliver. Most of the time we struggle meeting the needs of our current customers, much less a ton of new ones. Some of the long-time customers have left – I’m not privy to what reason they gave, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re just tired of poor performance from an over-extended workforce.

Telling the stories America so desperately needs to hear

Charlie the 10-year-old yellow lab likes surfing so much, he will grab his surfboard and run toward the water. His humans sometimes have to hide his board if they want to chat with friends on the beach.

Charlie joined about 15 to 20 other canine wave riders in Pacifica, 14 miles (22 kilometers) south of San Francisco, on Saturday at the World Dog Surfing Championships, an annual contest that draws thousands of spectators to Pacifica State Beach.

But does the dog hate Donald Trump?

The federal government is paying more than 154,000 people not to work

I noticed this is being brought up months after the deadline of DRP…

When I worked at the prison, one of the nurses got in a heated dispute with her boss about being told to do an undesirable task that is nonetheless part of a nurse’s job. She went and bitched to the union rep for half an hour, then went on fully paid “stress leave” for six months while we had to pay another salary of a contract nurse from an agency (more expensive) to fill her spot during that time. So that’s one way.

    • rhywun

I don’t know what DRP means but lol 154K is not even a down payment on the number of Americans the Feds are paying to not work.

    Throw away the key

The WNBA said Saturday that the individual who threw a sex toy onto the court at an Atlanta Dream game earlier in the week was arrested and that any person throwing objects onto the court will be ejected from the arena and face a minimum one-year ban.

    ——-

“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or in the seating area can pose a safety risk for players, game officials, and fans,” the league said in a statement. “In line with WNBA Arena Security Standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being subject to arrest and prosecution by local authorities.”

Sky center Elizabeth Williams said after Friday’s game: “It’s super disrespectful. I don’t really get the point of it. It’s really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up.”

What IS the point? Just don’t watch. If you want to protest that “pay us what we’re worth” stuff, throw pennies.

    • creech

Point? Why toss your hat on the ice when some multi-millionaire scores his third goal of the game? Why tear down the goal post when tPSU beats tOSU? Wait, that never happens.

Tangential: “Sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson arrested at Washington airport on a domestic violence offense
Reigning 100-meter world champion Sha’Carri Richardson was arrested last weekend for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.”

Why women so violent? That’s man’s game!

It wasn’t anything really serious, but my ex *was* serious when she threw a knife at me. (Pri had *no* arm, and it never was close.) It would take an awful lot for me to report my girlfriend+ on any violence toward me. Most men are the same, certainly.

“Whoever is doing it needs to grow up.” Because sports fans are known for displaying mature, civilized behavior.

    • Akira

Because sports fans are known for displaying mature, civilized behavior.

One thing I could never get is sports riots. I just can’t wrap my mind around what processes would make it seem like a good idea to flip cars over and burn them because your team lost or your team won (either result seems to provoke riots).

But I’m a weirdo who also doesn’t understand the fun of watching millionaires play a game, so it’s not really my department.

      • Threedoor

        Likewise.

      • Evan from Evansville

It’s not for everyone. It *really* helps if you played the sport ya watch. Helps to understand the actions and risks involved.

A sporting season is a live-action novel, played by men at the peak of physical prowess and ability. Especially when you really get into a Team and you ‘know’ the players, even follow their trades, the story lines, “possibilities, pitfalls and promise.”

Thought I’ve had: The Cubs are the only non-familial group I actively ‘Identify’ with, or as (as a fan). Thought of making an article about it, but in short: I’ve *invested* far too much of my life into them, and I follow baseball and know its history. You cannot convert me into a Yankees fan, or whatever other team. In that sense, it’s religious, national, or some other tribal element. Family is usually involved in what Team you belong to.

You can’t convert the unwilling without violence, and that brews anger, resent.

Do y’all have any other voluntary, ‘tribal’ bonds? I have strong thoughts and camaraderie with teachers, musicians, phlebotomists, newspapermen, grocery factory work, +++ — cuz I’ve done them and understand. But, I don’t feel the same bond or loyalty to ’em.

        Military service, sure. What else?

      • Evan from Evansville

Oh! I don’t ‘Identify’ with teachers, but I absolutely do with ex-pats and performing musicians.

I don’t have the same rah-rah rooting, tribal identity, though. It’s the best thing about sports. They’re universal ‘soldier-playing for children,’ but they’re the best way I know for rivals to compete, often painfully, to ‘get it out,’ and still be ‘mostly’ peaceful about the whole affair, including the fan bases and all included.

      • Threedoor

Evan, being in the military ruined me on camaraderie forever.

Bunch of Blue Falcons, thieves, and adulterers top to bottom.

      • Evan from Evansville

@Threedoor: I can see that. I suppose I was focusing on ‘served in combat together’ service. That’s a gravitational bonding agent, even if you likely hate each other.

Went to see Dead and Company yesterday at Golden Gate Park, it’s about a 10 minute bike ride from our house. Had a fabulous time with a collection of different friends that went. I was super impressed with the opener, Sturgill Simpson. I’d heard his name a bunch before, but I don’t listen to much country, but if there were more country artists like him I would. He reminds me a lot of Waylon.

    Questions were asked

The biggest revelations: The helicopter’s altimeter gauge was broken, and controllers warned the FAA years earlier about the dangers that helicopters presented.

At one point NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy scolded the FAA for not addressing safety concerns.

“Are you kidding me? Sixty-seven people are dead! How do you explain that? Our bureaucratic process?” she said. “Fix it. Do better.”

These things take time. You can’t just change things willy nilly.

Victims of the January crash included a group of elite young figure skaters, their parents and coaches and four union steamfitters from the Washington area.

I understand that it’s somewhat noteworthy when an entire sports team dies in a crash like this, but why call out the union steamfitters?

      • Threedoor

Problem #1 is procedure. FAA approved the lateral passing of rotary aircraft on a short final in a congested airspace.

Hell I saw this in Philly while landing and below us, at about 100′ was an Osprey. It is stupid policy and procedure for a critical phase of flight.

We need common-sense crazy person control.

  22. The Late P Brooks

Army officials said the greater concern is that the FAA approved routes around Ronald Reagan International Airport with separation distances as small as 75 feet (23 meters) between helicopters and planes when planes are landing on a certain runway at Reagan.

“The fact that we have less than 500-foot separation is a concern for me,” said Scott Rosengren, chief engineer in the office that manages the Army’s utility helicopters.

Army Chief Warrant Officer David Van Vechten said he was surprised the air traffic controller let the helicopter proceed while the airliner was circling to land at Reagan’s secondary runway, which is used when traffic for the main runway stacks up and accounts for about 5% of flight

They were following orders. It’s not as if they could decide on their own to wait, or take an alternate route.

  23. The Late P Brooks

Hell I saw this in Philly while landing and below us, at about 100′ was an Osprey.

At least it was below you.

  24. The Late P Brooks

NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy said “every sign was there that there was a safety risk and the tower was telling you that.” But after the accident, the FAA transferred managers out of the airport instead of acknowledging that they had been warned.

“What you did is you transferred people out instead of taking ownership over the fact that everybody in FAA in the tower was saying there was a problem,” Homendy said. “But you guys are pointing out, ‘Welp, our bureaucratic process. Somebody should have brought it up at some other symposium.’”

    Raises and promotions all around!

    • Ownbestenemy

Welcome to the FAA. NAS first, people always is our motto….
