Saturday Morning Exhausted Links

by | Sep 13, 2025 | Daily Links | 190 comments

It’s been a tough week, juggling clients, café, university, and home issues. The last is getting my house prepared for a new arrival, which has involved much lifting and carrying, about 100,000 trips up and down the stairs, and repeated errands to pick up small items that I just remembered I needed. I could use some sleep, but instead, here I am writing up little stories for Links. Hopefully, I can get in a short nap to energize myself for an evening with Prime (dinner and a concert).

Know what else is exhausting? The constant self-created drama of academia. Here’s the latest email blast from our little institution:

On Wednesday, September 10, at approximately 4:30 p.m., a bias incident was reported on our campus. An offensive leaflet was left on the vehicle of an ***** University employee in a campus parking lot.

We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and are considering it a hate crime. An investigation is underway.
.. Counseling is available to students and employees.

Offensive leaflet. Hate crime. I mean, this is the equivalent of getting shot in the throat by a sniper. (Pardon the asterisked redaction, I don’t want this to come up in the University’s regular search and destroy missions, you know who this is)

Speaking of offensive, people born on this date who may have needed it include the spiritual father of most American politicians; a guy who, unlike our current crop of government physicians, actually did something; a guy whose name ended up being an ass-sex euphemism; a famous serial killer; a woman famous for a one-night stand; the father of bluegrass; a vicious antisemite to whom we entrusted our kids; the one and only Velvet Fog; and the prime exponent of Heroin Chic.

And Links are also chic.

Had you ever considered that this was because you’re a piece of shit?

Nobody apparently learned the lesson from Jimmy Carter’s miserable failure.

Normally, I avoid Twitter links, but this one is delightfully symbolic of the rage many are feeling.

And one more, sorry, but you have to see how absolutely retarded Louisiana politicians are.

Mmmm, fresh picked cherries!

Everything we all knew, but it’s said out loud.

Another symptom of the political enstupidation of science curricula.

Women and minorities hardest hit.

This is what happens when you let a dirty Jew take charge.

Old man shouts at clouds.

Oh boy, I’m getting a raise!

You can’t help but smile when Slim Gaillard appears- the piano showmanship of Chico Marx but with about a hundred times better chops. And then he starts in on guitar… Personal trivia: The Old Guy used to own an identical guitar to that, and likely the same vintage.

Hope one of the cars (preferably the black van that stopped first) had dashcams front and back so they got that they weren’t at fault… and the plate of the asshole who was. I was just going to quip “Bad drivers never miss their exit” — but didn’t expect it to actually trigger the pileup.

I asked at the time if giving Jack Chick comics to Trick or Treaters was a hate crime. Of course, not one person other than 10b0t had any idea of who Jack Chick was.

      • SDF-7

“… was that the guy in School of Rock? I didn’t know he wrote comic books too!”

      • Nephilium

Damn it. I was going to joke it was either a JW pamphlet or a Chick tract.

Now I’m tempted to order some Chick tracts and bring them up for the little library.

Offensive leaflet. Hate crime. I mean, this is the equivalent of getting shot in the throat by a sniper.

Maybe we shouldn’t have hate crimes.

Iupac, the international authority responsible for standardising chemistry, described this new document as ‘a call to action’ for scientists, educators, industry leaders, policymakers and the next generation of chemists to align their work with humanity’s most urgent needs. The organisation also described it is ‘a living resource’, intended to evolve as the challenges and responsibilities of chemistry continue to grow.

Why do I smell skinsuiting of an institution going on?

“Now we have a system where you can listen to whatever version of the news makes you happy,” said “This is not good for democracy.”

      • SDF-7

I have the hugely exciting “Go to Wally World for cat litter and undershirts, then fill up the car with gas so I don’t run out taking Mom to Mass tomorrow morning”… so there are less productive activities planned than yours, DEG.

    • Nephilium

I’m really filling up on schadenfreuden watching them all cry out how unfair it is that people are sharing their public media posts from the past 48 hours when they’ve spent years digging up shit from decades back to get people fired and cut off from polite society.

Instead of filling up on rage, I’m going to listen to the Supernova Ska fest today, I have a feeling it’ll leave me in a better mood (even though it appears they lost audio for one of the first bands yesterday).

I can absolutely understand voters already on the dole voting for more Free Shit ™.

To a lesser extent I can understand AWFLs being all about abortion and to some extent free child care (because when you’re evident goal is single motherhood, you need the State to be your husband after all).

Otherwise — any voter with any assets or who pays any attention to their paystub taxation voting for confiscation via socialism (or full on communism)… I really don’t get in my gut. Which is doubtless why I’m here, true… but it still befuddles me… it isn’t like this shit hasn’t been tried and hasn’t royally (or revolutionarily, I suppose) sucked all kinds of ass. So the whole “You’re not empathetic enough / you don’t care for the community!” bullshit doesn’t make sense… good intentions and all — but you know this shit doesn’t work, so why replay it?

I suppose K-12 indoctrination is a big part of the answer… “Don’t think for yourself! I’ll tell you what to think (based on what others told me)… It will work if we wish Tinkerbell alive hard enough!”

Sorry for the rambling pointless observation…. sometimes you just have to vent — and y’all made the horrible, horrible mistake of giving me a place to do that. Fear your life choices!

    • Brochettaward

It speaks to the stupidity of the average voter that people are prioritizing a mayor’s position on Israel/Gaza over actual policy he can implement.

A mayor taking a stand against Israel is nothing more than social signaling and moronic voters eat it up.

      • R C Dean

Ordinarily, yes. In NYC, which has a sizable Jewish population and anti-Jew protests (and violence, from time to time), its not entirely irrelevant, seeing as it telegraphs how he is likely to handle that particular local problem.

      • Nephilium

“Don’t worry about the pot holes that are destroying your cars, the rampant petty crime, or the dirty streets. We hate Israel, isn’t that enough?”

    • SDF-7

I don’t think that’s wrong. It riles up their non-psycho voters… and if it happens to rile up some of their psycho fringe… well, they have plausible deniability when it takes some of their opponents pieces off the board in the Great Game. Win-win (if you are a sociopath… which is likely a pre-req for politicians these days… so what a shock…)

I saw it a while ago from a channel called Think Before You Sleep. The producers released two piglets on the womens camp. The women not only kept them as pets, named them Sage and Onion, but they also gave them their little bit of food and water, and then left them there on the beach as they waved goodbye to walk to camp. The second time they encountered a different pig, they did hunt it, but it was half dead, fully infected with ticks. The women tried to “salvage” the meat by putting it in a water canister. Obviously, it didn’t work, making everyone sick. Then threw away the water canister instead of sanitizing it, leaving them with one can left and unable to do their filtration system. This made the producers almost throw in the towel to get them medical assistance, and tell them to go get that canister back.

I suspect Trump’s more interested in vengeance than unity right now and as long as he doesn’t get too carried away I’m OK with that for the time being. After all, what happened to Kirk very nearly happened to him.

      • rhywun

I’m hearing he might have been instrumental in Trump’s 2nd win which does help explain the left being barely able to conceal its glee at his assassination.

        Just more TDS.

      • Threedoor

        Good.

    • creech

What would Guardian headline have been had Trump called for unity? “Trump demands allegiance to his authoritarian policies?”

    • Gustave Lytton

Gee, what a surprise. The last time he tried to chart a middle and inclusive course, he was and continues to be wrongly pilloried for it.

Hey hey hey! They’re not that bad.

      • Gender Traitor

I ate vienna sausages (or, as Levon Helm playing Loretta Lynn’s father in Coal Miner’s Daughter called them, “viney sausages”) when I was a kid and don’t remember having them since then.

Now I want some, and I didn’t even click through to the article. 🙁

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

They’re excellent for offshore fishing trips which is the only time I eat them. See also: potted meat.

      • Gustave Lytton

        Vienna or veenah sausages?

I liked them as a kid, but they don’t taste the same to me now. There’s some canned German sausages at Cost Plus which do and scratch that itch when I have a nostalgia hankering.

“Multiple lawmakers this week canceled or postponed outdoor events in the aftermath of a shooting Wednesday that killed conservative activist Charlie Kirk, and House Speaker Mike Johnson said he is expediting a review of member security….

Democratic Reps. Becca Balint of Vermont, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan have all canceled events recently, including a town hall scheduled for Friday, because of heightened tensions related to Kirk’s death.

Republican South Carolina Rep. Nancy Mace, who is running for governor, also canceled all of her in-person events for the foreseeable future, claiming she no longer feels safe, USA Today reported.”

NPR printed this with a straight face:

Loretta Ross, a community activist and Smith College professor who researches authoritarian movements, told NPR that Kirk’s assassination was a tragedy that is now being used to clamp down on free speech.

She referenced the McCarthy period, when “people were punished, fired, blacklisted for having opinions that the government didn’t like,” and warned against an overreaction.

    • Suthenboy

“…a community activist and Smith College professor who researches authoritarian movements…”
      Cookie cutter commie. Got it.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

“Who is Charlie Kirk’s murder suspect?
Tyler Robinson 22, has been arrested as a suspect of Charlie Kirk’s murder. He has no criminal history and as per his voter id details, Robinson was a registered voter but was not affiliated with any political party.

He is listed as an “inactive voter” which means that he did not cast a vote in last year’s presidential election, as per Ryan Sullivan, the clerk and auditor for Washington County, Utah, where the suspect lived. Robinson was a member of the Mormon church “at a young age” as per a spokesman of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Charlie Kirk was notably against Mormonism, as per his 8-minute theological debate about Mormonism versus Christianity at the Utah Valley University. He also joked about Mormons and said, “I love how Mormons have more kids than they can afford.”

    https://www.soapcentral.com/entertainment/news-is-3d-figurine-charlie-kirk-getting-shot-real-nano-banana-ai-tool-explained-viral-image-sparks-backlash-online

Twas his antiMormonism what done it? The actual motivation behind this is as plain as the nose on my face. Also, people still watch soap operas apparently. Who knew?

    • Brochettaward

I don’t know the motivation myself. Could have just done it for notoriety like the last trans shooter or any other number of mass shooters in general.

People are all attempting to put him in a box to suit their narrative. For my part, I’m just going to say that the left should do some reflecting given how many of their own reacted to it regardless of the reason the shooter acted.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Unless the antifascist stuff written on the bullets was just something to throw the cops off the trail that makes it fairly apparent and his friends and family say he’s left wing and had become more radical in the past couple years (which fits in with the timeline of him going off to college unsurprisingly).

I think it’s pretty cut and dry but we’ll see. The cops are going to be all over the Discord servers he was on and god only knows what they’ll find there.

      • Brochettaward

Do you have a source for the family saying he was left wing? I’ve seen the claims that he was a follow of Fuentes and then there’s the people assuming he was a Republican because his family seems to have been. Which is nonsense. We all have family with different political views.

The messages on the bullets are all over the place. I’ve seen some mental gymnastics to make the anti-fascist message be proof that he was right wing somehow. But the other message on the gays indicates he wasn’t left wing. And then you have the stuff that’s harder to interpret or just nonsense.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Not right offhand. I’ll look around and see if I can find it again.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

Huh, maybe the left wing stuff is something I heard but didn’t read or it’s an interpretation I added in my head. It’s still what I think but I can’t find it.

      • Suthenboy

No, it is not something you added in your head. I heard the same thing. His family described him as a leftist who had recently become more radical.

    • Gustave Lytton

How can a 22 year old be an inactive voter already? Fucking motor voter laws.

      • Threedoor

WA, CA, and OR politicians love motor voter.

    • Threedoor

A Utah collage campus was no less dangerous for him than Mecca would have been.

  32. The Late P Brooks

    From Sensei’s NPR link above:

Some of Kirk’s rhetoric was incendiary. He questioned the intellectual capabilities of women and black people, said that some gun deaths were worth it to have the Second Amendment, asserted the 1964 Civil Rights Act was a mistake, and cast immigrants and transgender people as threats.

I have seen this boilerplate mud slung almost word for word in other places.

  33. The Late P Brooks

The result of the social media frenzy over commentary about Kirk’s death is that some people who “want to go down that path of debating the things that he stood for are essentially being silenced,” said David Kaye, a law professor of law focusing on international human rights, the internet and free speech at the University of California, Irvine.

Leaving aside that whole “Kirk was actually murdered, to prevent him from speaking in an inexplicable random act of totally unplanned thrill killing” yes, those people are the true victims here.

Just sayin’….the shooter is prime age and demographic for the onset of schizophrenia. His behavior, shooting included, also fits the bill. At first I thought the inscriptions were along that line as well but it could also be the in-talk of his online/age/video game group. Of course those are not mutually exclusive. Add to that that leftist thought and ideology fosters and encourages insanity and you have quite a toxic stew.

That is a lot of words to say ‘evil’.
