“The president said he would also bring RICO, or Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act, charges against “some of the people you have been reading about that have been putting up millions and millions of dollars for agitation.”
      ….
Earlier Monday, both White House adviser Stephen Miller and Vice President JD Vance said that the administration is moving to investigate networks that organized riots, street violence, and other activities in the United States. At one point, Miller used the term “domestic terror movement” to describe such actors.”

      Good.

Long overdue. The name Soros always pops in my head but in fact there is a cadre of such people actively trying to destroy the country.

I saw Steve Miller’s wife on the teevee this morning seething mad about vadalism and harassment at their home.

    Shows I have watched/am watching:

Wednesday Season 2 is completely terrible in almost every specific way, with the exception of performances of Luis Guzman and Catherine Zeta-Jones. And yet I enjoyed it. Maybe watching Jenna Ortega mugging for the camera was a bit of mindlessness I needed? Don’t know.

Terminal List: Dark Wolf continues to be brutal. The latest episode isn’t wonderful other than as a complete deck clearing as far as “wtf is actually going on here?” In that respect, it makes the show completely paranoid in that there are now only two characters that can be “trusted” and even that only extends to “not actively working at cross purposes with the potential for killing them.”

    Trump outsources torture

A U.S. judge said that she was powerless to stop the return of four men in Ghana’s custody to countries where U.S. immigration judges determined they faced torture or persecution, declining to intervene in a victory for the Trump administration.

U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan said that the administration appeared to be circumventing the U.N. Convention Against Torture by sending the West Africans to Ghana, but that her “hands are tied.”

Chutkan wrote that she was “alarmed and dismayed by the circumstances under which these removals are being carried out, especially in light of the government’s cavalier acceptance of Plaintiffs’ ultimate transfer to countries where they face torture and persecution.”

The ruling Monday night in federal court in Washington clears the way for 14 West Africans to be sent to their home countries from Ghana, including the four covered by the ruling. They appear to be destined for Nigeria and Gambia, despite U.S. immigration judges finding they have reason to fear persecution or torture.

Almost a week after Charlie Kirk’s murder, and those of us said “this feels different” appear to be right. To me these things stand out.

    1. He was much more popular than I realized. More people knew who he was than I thought. Even some people in Europe were even paying tribute to him.

    2. He was more ingrained in the Trump admin than I realized. Sure he was friends with Trump and Vance, but all the big names in the admin were close to him. Even Kennedy said Charlie Kirk organized him joining Trump, and suggested that fireworks display that became an iconic photo. The assassination was personal to the people who hold all the power.

    3. The far left, and not so far left, are showing their true colors and are completely shocked that most of the country finds that abhorrent. They haven’t got the memo that they’ve actually lost a lot of their power.

    Throwing gas on the fire

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) warned Sunday that the Trump administration could be preparing a “dizzying” crackdown on political dissent, pointing to officials’ escalating rhetoric against left-leaning groups.

“Pay attention. Something dark might be coming,” Murphy wrote in a thread on the social platform X.

“The murder of Charlie Kirk could have united Americans to confront political violence. Instead, Trump and his anti-democratic radicals look to be readying a campaign to destroy dissent,” Murphy added.

Murphy said Utah Gov. Spencer Cox (R) has “led the way” in stressing “the need to depoliticize our fight against violence,” adding, “But Trump and his lieutenants are spinning a lie. That the only threat is from the left.”

The right wing reign of terror is coming. Prepare yourselves, patriots.

      • The Other Kevin

The far left is shrinking. Who is looking at this saying, “You know you’re right, Trump IS a Nazi, we DO need to kill more people!” The best they can do is lie to their followers and try to keep them in a state of fear. But just like the last election, their lies directly contradict what we’re seeing with our own eyes, and you can’t sustain that forever.

      • Stinky Wizzleteats

I didn’t realize they were quite so far down the acceptance of political violence road to tell the truth, even some moderates/normies. Been quite a wakeup call to be honest.

      • The Other Kevin

A wake up call for me too. It seems a steady flow of people telling you the “other side” are white supremacist, Nazis, fascists, a threat to democracy, the biggest threat to our country, etc. over 10 years tends to affect people.

“The murder of Charlie Kirk could have united Americans to confront political violence.”

He included a screenshot of a post from far-right activist Laura Loomer, who said on X, “I have to say, I do want President Trump to be the ‘dictator’ the Left thinks he is, and I want the right to be as devoted to locking up and silencing our violent political enemies as they pretend we are.”

Murphy also pointed to Trump’s renewed threats last week to investigate prominent liberal philanthropist George Soros, accusing him of funding violent protests, which, Murphy said, “is just made up out of thin air. Totally, completely false.”

We all know Laura Loomer is the real power behind the throne. And that poor Mister Soros who wants nothing more than to use his wealth for the good of mankind; how could anyone question the ultimate end use of his philanthropic largesse?

“The right has been looking for a pretext to destroy their opposition for a long time. Increasingly, the right views the left as an existential [threat] to a white, Christian majority nation and thus must be destroyed, as Michael Anton wrote, at any cost,” Murphy wrote, linking to an article in New York Magazine.

“That’s why it was so important for Trump sycophants to take over the DoJ and FBI, so that if a pretext arose, Trump could orchestrate a dizzying campaign to shut down political opposition groups and lock up or harass its leaders,” he continued. “This is what could be coming – now.”

After a bunch of whirring and clicking, you get a cup of coffee not much different than what you could have made in 30 seconds with a normal coffee pot and some powdered creamer.

Fortunately on the other pantry on the floor is a “dumb” model.

It has a chiller and heater for instant water and water filter cartridge. It has a momentary on solenoid valve.

It’s just all the way across the floor, but I much prefer it.

It’s legacies, all the way down

One of the swing votes in the evenly split Senate, the longtime senator from the coal-producing state opposed Biden’s $2 trillion-plus Build Back Better proposal, a sweeping domestic policy, tax and social safety net package that included climate and tax provisions that Manchin rejected.

Manchin said his rejection didn’t stop Biden from trying to use the bully pulpit to convince Manchin to change his position.

In a private White House meeting, Manchin said he told Biden “this isn’t your legislation. It’s Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren’s. I’ve known you for a long time, and I do not believe that you believe this is the right thing for the country.”

“He grabbed my arm,” Manchin wrote of Biden. “‘Joe,’ he said, ‘the country needs you.'”

“When the most powerful man in the world is putting the weight of the world on you, it causes you to pause. I took a deep breath and grabbed his arm. ‘Mr. President,’ I said, ‘the country needs you too,'” Manchin wrote.

It may be self serving hogwash, but it’s believable self serving hogwash.

Manchin also criticized the Biden White House’s handling of negotiations with House and Senate Democrats over the infrastructure package, which at one point were held up in the House by progressives in what Manchin called “a misguided effort” to pass the larger domestic agenda.

“The political incompetence of his staff was staggering,” Manchin wrote about Biden’s trips to the Hill to meet with House Democrats.

He’s the President. You have to do what he says.

“The political incompetence of his staff was staggering”

That was by design. Every appointment, including Biden, was chosen by Obama’s third term admin for exactly that purpose. Think back on every member of that freak show.

Back to my “collectivism vs individualism” musings:

I think a lot of what we might call “habitual Democrats” are beginning to see just how much of a commitment they are expected to make to support the goals of the lunatic fringe’s hive mind Utopia. They are beginning to see the real costs of the madness.

Last night the wife came home from work massively pissed off, as it seems one of her co-directors is making a massive power play. But I did not have the heart to tell her that she falls into this trap every couple years as she seems to not be willing to jump in a take charge, grab the gold ring, and forge her own destiny.* Instead, she feels she is best being second in command, that she is happy to do this, but it leaves everyone else the option and timing to go for it, and then feels aggrieved that she isn’t in charge of her fate.

But, this morning I hear her on the phone, laughing. I think things are back to normal.

*I could point out the flaws in her logic, but I have learned one or two things having been with her for a few decades at this point. But only one or two, and just barely.

Some comedian on TV just now: “I never thought that in my lfetime I would be having this conversation. ‘Hey, I am against murder. Murder is bad. What side are you on?’ ”

Yes, Kirk’s murder was a turning point. We tried engaging with them and the guy who was doing that the most, they blew his head off. The sea change seems to be that huge numbers of people are no longer interesting in engaging with them at all about anything. They are idolizing Mangione, cheering Kirk’s murder, not so subtly approved of Trump’s near assassination and calling for more political violence.

I think the mid-terms are going to be bad for them and that will make them even worse. If they cant be in charge they really will try to burn the country down.

  44. The Late P Brooks

Maybe it’s wishful thinking, but I believe the vast majority of people in this country just want the screamers and agitators, left and right, to STFU and GTFO so they can just live their lives in relative peace.

    okay so… I’ve been away a while… And I need help clarifying thoughts…

Was Tyler a Groyper or was he Antifa?

I’ve had family that would have tended to the groyper side of the spectrum while in high school and early college, but after living in this world a while and particularly after Trump’s election, is now heavily leftist, nihilist, and communist.

This is what I think happened to Tyler. I think indeed it was a shitpost assasination meant to inflame the right and the left. but I do not think he was right wing. I think he was nihilist and pro-trans and turned that way because of his early association with groypers in the online 4-chan sphere. He saw groypers as anti-establishment, but then he found leftism fed into his nihilistic views better than the right. The right was too Christian.

So yes, he was anti-fascist, he was pro trans, and he was a groyper shitposter. But I’m not sure he was right or left. But I think given the level of rejoicing on the left this feeds into the thought he was more leftist than not.

    • Suthenboy

Now toss ‘onset of schizophrenia’ into that mix and the devil is on the loose.

      • Claypoolsreservoir

I’m not sure it’s schizophrenia… I think it’s desensitization… It’s living your life in an online persona for so long that you develop a visceral hatred of those in opposition, and you’re not strong enough in sympathy for the human condition to disregard that rage as improper. There’s been nothing like the internet in the history of the world. There’s been no technology that can at once have you so connected to others and where your deepest darkest thoughts can be evoked, all without any repercussions. The internet, and the way it is used, has some kind of severe effect on the weak minded. And I don’t think it’s a singular disorder. I think it’s a combination of factors. I think your upbringing tends you towards specific spheres, and then you just get sucked in where you get sucked in. Maybe I should read Ted Kaczynski’s manifesto again…

Was Tyler a Groyper or was he Antifa?

    Probably neither.
