Saturday Morning Links of Atonement

by | Sep 27, 2025 | Daily Links | 128 comments

I have much to atone for this Yom Kippur. Most recently for making a really bad noodle stir-fry. And subjecting my neighbors to almost non-stop barking and howling as Rosie and Kaiser trigger each other. And chasing after some deer in my back yard with a rolling pin, Maggie-style. And playing Let’s Drop The Baby. And coming up with my own private nicknames for the uber-Progs on our village board. And doing a spot-on imitation of one of our louder local (actual) tards. And threatening to break 10b0t’s fingers if he sends me one more video of midget amputees fucking.

But I shall not atone for birthdays, as is my tradition, which today include a Founding Father who makes shitty beer; an artist whose craft has been degraded beyond measure; a smarmy solon who at least rid us of the second-worst president ever but was a hilariously inapt Left cult figure;  one of my favorite magicians; another solon who had something in common with Art Garfunkel; a guy who navigated the fine line between genius and insanity– not always very well; a guy who loved cake and was SugarFree’s spiritual father; an unjustly overlooked songwriter and fine guitarist; and the patron saint of Crazy Eyes.

And if you don’t have crazy eyes yet, you will after reading Links.

The kayfabe continues.

Take bets on the prosecution of the guy who wrote this story.

Five years too late.

I have an alibi.

If you guys truly meant business, you’d have used Baby Shark.

Don’t worry about it, it only happens 10 or 20 thousand times. It could be worse.

Hiring standards are interesting. Here’s the non-paywall version. For a runner, he apparently was too slow. BTW, note the date of the deportation order.

There IS a simple solution.

Performative panic. We all know what’s going to happen- paid vacations.

Fuck the turtles.

This one surprised me- I had no idea that Rahsaan had ever been on the Ed Sullivan show, and the juxtaposition is… odd. Nonetheless, it’s Rahsaan, and the Old Guy bows with reverence.

“Take bets on the prosecution of the guy who wrote this story.”

    Stupid end of file error.

  2. SDF-7

And threatening to break 10b0t’s fingers if he sends me one more video of midget amputees fucking.

If prosecuted — I would expect jury nullification on any assault charge.

    Morning all.

    • Ted S.

This implies that there’s something wrong with videos of midget amputees fucking.

      • (((Jarflax

They are always cut too short

      • SDF-7

Yes, yes it does. They’re always short and cut off instead of having long run times.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

They never have a happy ending?

  3. SDF-7

which today include a Founding Father who makes shitty beer

Starting off with a slow one right over the plate, hmm? I suspect we’ve failed at guessing correctly so many time you had to toss a pity reference out for us.

  4. Common Tater

“The most recent breakdown of federal crime statistics bears that out. Black offenders were involved in about 15% of violent victimizations of white people between 2017 and 2021, according to data from the Bureau of Justice Statistics, which publishes multiyear crime trend reports every few years. White offenders were involved in over half of violence against other white people, the statistics show.”

So what’s the other 35% or I need more coffee?

    • SDF-7

“They’re not saying it was aliens….”

    • Common Tater

“Black-on-Black crime is a flawed premise, according to criminologists, because people of all racial groups experience crime due to their social networks and proximity to each other.

But in discussions about systemic racism in policing and the criminal justice system, it’s frequently argued that Black-on-Black crime should be the chief concern of Black communities — more than police brutality or racial profiling — because homicide has been a leading cause of death among Black men.”

      What?

      • Ownbestenemy

The numbers are damaging my world view so I will wish it away!

      • (((Jarflax

It’s flawed because it’s true. Why can’t you understand that?

      • SDF-7

Their pretzel logic is why they’re so salty.

The whole thing is gibberish. I wonder if the authors are actual people.

    The kayfabe continues.

Gee… maybe if y’all actually worked on a budget and the Dems actually recognized they’re in the minority this time around and they have to make concessions / not push for stuff the Flappy Wing can’t tolerate (like oh… extending health care funds for illegals when immigration crackdown is one of the primary focus points of the Flappy Base this time around) and be willling to compromise instead of preen for social media…. maybe just maybe they wouldn’t be in this position.

But governing is hard… preening and Continuous Resolutions has been working for them for over a decade now! (grumble bitch moan complain)

    • Ownbestenemy

We need an amendment of something like if Congress fails to pass a budget within 30 days, all seats are vacated and a special election will occur. This process will continue until a budget is passed.

      • SDF-7

All the local school boards looking to pass bond measures every. fucking. election. perk up their ears….

Stories 2 and 3 are perfect examples of a citizenry fearfully submitting to politically chosen superiors. The US maybe has had enough of that shit but I fear England is too far gone.

  9. SDF-7

    I have an alibi.

Glad you do — and what a creep.

I’d almost start to think that the proposed systems of “jury duty” style politics (random selection from the eligible voters to serve as legislators) might be better than the “let’s attract all the corrupt and psychopathic!” we have now… but I know full well that a) The staffs would become the permanent actual deciders as the figureheads moved in and out and b) People, being people, would corrupt any system we try to device anyway. “That’s what he does… that’s ALL he does!”

See also the Franklin quote and that we need a moral people for any of this to work.

  10. SDF-7

    There IS a simple solution.

Tell everyone it is just a tool and to unwad their panties already?

  11. SDF-7

    Fuck the turtles.

    I’m sure there’s a sub-reddit for that.

  12. rhywun

I can’t even figure out what that obsessively racist and tedious chin-stroker from AP is supposed to be expressing. Ignore the evidence in front of your eyes? Nothing to see here, move along? The play with capital letters does seem to imply a desired hierarchy, though.

  13. Common Tater

“A retired Big Apple financier who worked for years at George Soros’ investment firm allegedly “tortured” former Playboy models and other women in a Midtown penthouse-turned-BDSM “sex dungeon” for about a decade, federal prosecutors said.

Howard Rubin, 70, was busted by the feds at his Fairfield, Conn., home Friday morning on sex-trafficking charges for allegedly luring “dozens” of women to New York City between 2009 and 2019 — where he restrained, beat and electrocuted them, the Brooklyn US Attorney’s Office said.”

    Is everything sex trafficking?

    • (((Jarflax

Prostitution is definitionally trafficking in sex. The stolen base is pretending that what is being trafficked in are the women (or men as you prefer) who are doing the trafficking, rather than the sex acts they are using their agency to sell.

    • Ted S.

Why couldn’t it have been Jennifer Rubin?

      • Common Tater

        Which one?

    • Akira

An 18-year old driving his 17-year old girlfriend to a motel in the next state for sex is “interstate sex trafficking of children”, so yes.

“Ian Roberts, who was born in Guyana, entered the United States in 1999 on a student visa and had received a deportation order from an immigration judge in May 2024. He had no work authorization, and had faced weapon possession charges several years ago”

Sounds like the deportation order should have been issued when his student visa expired, and assuming he disappeared from view then, enforced when he was arrested for weapons charges.

How did somebody with an expired visa/no work authorization get hired? By the fucking government, no less.

    • SDF-7

That is the rather interesting question that one hopes some law enforcement types might be looking at with fresh eyes, isn’t it?

On the same day, in remarks made that were audio-recorded by the New York Observer, Biden said of his fellow Democratic candidate, Obama, “I mean, you got the first sort of mainstream African-American.” An unidentified reporter responded, “Yeah.” Biden continued, “… who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy. I mean, that’s a storybook, man.”

      • Akira

It fits with Biden’s self-conception is King of the Blacks, who may declare at his whim who “ain’t black” based on political choices that displease him.

“In the days before his tragic death, Charlie Kirk and his wife Erika turned to prayer and the protection of the Church after hearing disturbing news that radical feminists had sought to curse him. According to LifeSiteNews, the feminist media outlet Jezebel “hired three witches to place curses on him” through the online marketplace Etsy in late August. Jezebel later published, then deleted, an article boasting of the hexes on September 8, just two days before Kirk was killed by a sniper’s bullet.

Media host Megyn Kelly shared on her podcast that Erika Kirk was especially shaken by the report of the curses. “Charlie and Erika Kirk heard about these curses, and that news genuinely rattled Erika, in particular,” Kelly said, recounting the widow’s words. Out of concern, Erika asked a priest friend to come to their home and pray over Charlie the night before his death. Kelly explained, “She loved Charlie absolutely, and she was scared when she heard of the curses Jezebel had called up, so much so that she and Charlie contacted a friend who I believe she said was a Catholic priest … and asked him to come over and pray with them, over Charlie, the night before he was murdered” ”

[Iowa school superintendent’s arrest] also left questions about how, if ICE’s claims were proven, someone not authorized to work in the United States had managed to build a national profile and move from school district to school district.

I love the weasel-wording, the doubt-casting, and the attempt to blame ICE for the school district’s failure to do due diligence, or perhaps deliberate flaunting of the law.

The district has not been formally notified by ICE about this matter, nor have we been able to talk with Dr. Roberts since his detention.

The second is practically perilous, since a shutdown is guaranteed to hurt the economy — a dynamic Democrats have invoked over a long history of battling with Republicans to keep the government open.

What if they had a shutdown and nobody noticed?

It will probably hurt the economy statistically b/c of government expenditure being counted as part of GDP.

President Donald Trump’s executive order strapping a six-figure fee to the H1-B visa has created confusion for tech firms and the tens of thousands of foreign employees that the companies have depended on for their growth, according to immigration and business experts.

Trump and his officials touted the recent order to add a $100,000 fee for every H1-B application as one that would help create more job opportunities for Americans. This visa program allows U.S. employers to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations.

However, the president’s move will make it difficult for tech firms to expand U.S. operations or incentivize highly talented foreign workers to choose America as the place they launch their next big idea, Stuart Anderson, the executive director of non-partisan think tank National Foundation for American Policy, told ABC News.

It must really suck to live trapped in a miasma of fear and hopelessness. Cheer up, Eeyore.

Jeremy Robbins, the executive director of nonprofit advocacy group the American Immigration Council, told ABC News that smaller start-up firms are crucial for the tech industry’s growth. Every major tech company started off as a smaller mom and pop start-up that blossomed due to the right developer or engineer who cracked the code to bring an app or tech product across the finish line.

    Americans could never do that.

Mom and pops are the ones hiring H1Bs. Sure, Jan.
