I am no longer impressed by the bureaucratic machinery that keeps the government in check. Letโ€™s unhitch that trailer.

This is my review of Dissolvr Brewing Believe in the Breeze Czech Pilsner:

Yes, I am turning into an accelerationist in this one regard. Why? Because I donโ€™t have any fucking money*.

Once again the government will not be able to fund itself due to partisan hacks all putting the blame on the thing that Mitch McConnell kept explaining made the US Senate the โ€œWorldโ€™s Most Deliberative Bodyโ€โ„ขโ€ฆYou know the filibuster.

Having roots in antiquity in which Roman Senators would take advantage of the rule that all business must be concluded by dusk, the filibuster is one of the effective ways to prevent the passage of (most likely terrible) legislation. How did the Romans do that? Wrestling? Bringing in the Gladiators to fight it out? Noโ€ฆone of them would just talk incessantly, holding up any other business because a Senator must first be allowed to finish speaking.

Frankly, giving them swords and figuring it out like men wouldโ€™ve been more humane. Thatโ€™s as true today as it was in Rome.

The trouble is, the filibuster today isnโ€™t used in such a manner, only the threat of it. So they put an arbitrary threshold on when that threat is no longer good. 60 votes makes for a filibuster-proof majority, with enough votes from the opposition party agreeing to vote they can end debate in order to actually vote on the legislation at hand. Like the Orange Man, I am hereby advocating they end the rule in spite of the fact the communists will just run roughshod over everyone. Which is great because they were happy to entertain it while they were in power and will absolutely do it once they get back in. Sideshow Bob warned us decades ago, โ€œyou canโ€™t keep the Democrats out of power forever!โ€

โ€ฆor can we?

With the risk of sounding like Sally Kohn who didnโ€™t know how the 25th Amendment works, here is my plan:

  • Nuke the filibuster rule
  • Now take advantage by funding the government for the next 60 days, by the end of December we should be able to have the following pass both houses and sent to Mar-a-Lago for a big, beautiful, orange signature:
    • Eliminate the NFA and the ATF
    • Eliminate the IRS and set the income tax to a flax 0%. Why that number? Even Islam limits it to 2%โ€”THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE AMERICA GODDAMNIT
    • Dismantle DHS, and publicly hang anyone currently working for TSA
    • We all have a pet agency we hate the most, eliminate that too
  • By now itโ€™s probably spring 2026โ€”still time to allow every secessionist movement to put forth a charter for statehood.
    • Cascadia? Hell yeah!
    • Jefferson? Uh huh.
    • Western Slope? Yup.
    • That other goofy corner of Colorado? Aye
    • S. Illinois? Michiganโ€™s Upper Peninsula? Whatever theyโ€™re doing in Minniesoda? Iโ€™ll even take states voting to exclude major cities and force them to become their own stateโ€”Suck it Omaha!
  • All of them so long as there are suddenly enough team red districts and states to suddenly account for 3/4 of the Congress. No filibuster rule means nobody on team blue can do anything about it, right?
  • By now its Labor Day, once theyโ€™re done voting that away they can now use the 3/4 majority to introduce an amendment requiring 2/3 to pass any new legislation but a simple majority to repeal it. While theyโ€™re at it they can probably repeal several others we have determined to be a mistake.

There, now you need 66% percent instead of 60% and its an actual law instead of some gentlemanโ€™s agreement. I am assured by reason alone this will never happen because team red is a bunch of useless, feckless cunts and will never elect to wield power because of Tolkein or something.

Its a Czech Pilsner, its delicious. I am confused by the reference its name was making, or at least I assume its a reference, a simple search engine result brings me to this terrible pop song. Still the artwork is pretty good, and I like that breweries are employing actual artists to create something visually stimulating while I drink something to numb my brain. If you can find it, go for it. Dissolvr Brewing Believe in the Breeze Czech Pilsner: 3.2/5

I mean, I get who is to blame, and I get that for incomprehensible reasons it is politically advantageous to make sure the Democrats are blamed, but let’s be honest about this shall we? I know I am cheering for the shutdown to last forever, and I’d bet you feel the same.

  12. The Late P Brooks

How could they turn it down?

Top Senate Democrat Chuck Schumer on Friday offered a new plan to Republican lawmakers that would allow the U.S. government to reopen from a shutdown that began Oct. 1.

But Republicans quickly dismissed Schumerโ€™s proposal, which hinges on protecting enhanced Affordable Care Act subsidies for at least one year. In exchange, Democrats would drop their demand that a longer-term extension of ACA tax credits be included in a stopgap government funding bill.

    It’s a compromise, right?

  13. The Late P Brooks

Schumerโ€™s proposal calls for Democrats to agree to pass the GOPโ€™s so-called clean resolution, which would provide short-term funding for government operations.

In exchange, the New York lawmaker said, Republicans would agree to a separate one-year extension of ACA credits, and to create a bipartisan committee to continue negotiations to address health-care affordability.

Completely different than what they were demanding before.

“S. Illinois?” <– Nothing will come from it, of course, but there's more talk of non-Chicagoland counties joining with Indiana. Not the craziest of ideas, and I'm ignorant of much, but IN's a pretty well-run state, all things considered. Apparently IN isn't running a deficit, but this stood out: " The FY 2024 general fund appropriation was about $22 billion, with a slight increase projected for FY 2025. ๐˜ ๐Ÿ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ” and nearly $55 billion in FY 2027. Who “recommended” the state go from $22B to $53B? Hrm.

Good thing there’s no serious crime in Canada. That way they could send 1 dozen or so armed officers in bullet-proof vests. Assholes. Seriously, at what point do you start questioning the life choices that lead you to a certain point.

How can there be no munny? We’re still paying taxes.

    I blame the post office.

    • Fourscore

Continuing resolutions? Budgets? Are these something new>? Didn’t we know a year ago that these have to get done every year.

It’s like taxes. You know that you have to pay taxes, like it or not. Do you wait a month before they are due to start planning? Or, do you start thinking about them Jan 2nd, after the hangover dissipates, to start planning, thinking, worrying?

C’mon, Man, it isn’t like it’s something new. It seems like this goes on every year, a compromise is worked out that includes ALL the bad ideas and is declared a victory.

I’m so tired of the same ol’ stuff, year after year and yet the same incompetents get re-elected year after year.

      • UnCivilServant

I wouldn’t have my W-2 or 1099s by Jan 2nd. I can’t even do any math before February.

      • Fourscore

I have been collecting the info since Jan 2025. Get a quarterly dividend, info goes into the 2025 envelope, that sort of thing, sell something with capital gains? 2025 envelope. I thought everyone did that.

      • Threedoor

        Fourscore, you report personal sales?

They are going to have to find that first.

      • Fourscore

I sold a couple pieces of real estate that will show up as capital gains. The title company gave me a 1099 on the check they gave me.
