Well, this Sunday is the CLE meeting of the Browns and the Ravens. I was tempted to steal Tonio’s dumpster fire images for the links today, but didn’t want to confuse and frighten people. Once again, I’ll be taking OMWC down into the Dawg Pound to watch the game.
Attempt number 2 (or 3, depending on how you count the deck). I still have an original Steam controller and the link/cast device they made (all picked up when on clearance).
This may be a bit much, and the ergonomics look terrible to boot.
Disney vs. 35+ year sequel? I hope he manages to get a movie made.
I can’t wait to hear about these hallucinations.
Great, remind people about the worst part of the games.
Boeing + Blue Screen = ???
Depends on if you want those fans to show up for the next movie.
I’ll make an early prediction. Alan Moore will be displeased.
Only 374? I feel like an average Celtic heritage fest could top that.
I… I… I don’t want to live on this planet anymore.
Bubble, bubble, toil, and…
You mean storing a large amount PII makes it a target for hackers?
A longish piece on college students and math, written by the person who wrote about English majors not being able to comprehend literature.
For the cocktail this week, let’s go with a twist on the Boulevardier:
Left Hand
- 2 parts (1.5 oz) bourbon
- 1 part (0.75 oz) Campari
- 1 part (0.75 oz) sweet vermouth
- 3 dashes chocolate bitters
For those who are curious, the difference is that a Boulevardier doesn’t have bitters, and is closer to equal parts of each ingredient. To build the drink, grab a glass/pitcher, fill it with ice, add the ingredients, and give it a stir until chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and garnish with a cherry if you’re feeling fancy.
With that, I’ll let you get to the weekend.

College students and math: Math is racist.
It never occurs to these kids that they are being kept bone crushingly ignorant for a reason?
Not able to comprehend literature? I am having my grandson read ‘The Old Man and the Sea’ now.
If the progs could understand it I am sure it would be at the top of their book burn list. My bet is that any of them that read it drew a blank.
If you care to read his take on the literature study, it would be here.
I really liked that piece. Using The Bleak House as the difficult reading passage was… a proper decision. The kids’ interpretations of that were sad. I get not understanding it, but not being able to tell literal/ figurative was predictable. (History rhymes, eh.) That opening’s a slog and a reason I don’t like much of the Dickens and other writing styles. “Look how smart I am.” Great. Yay.
‘He thinks big words have big meaning.’
The don’t know they’re ignorant, because they’ve been taught a different definition of what’s important.
I don’t think I have read it. The bonus reading Robinson Caruso now. I’m sure he’ll be devouring all the non fiction sea adventures I have collected over the years.
Get him reading the Hornblower or Aubrey/Maturin series. He’s at a prime age to enjoy them.
I tell my students everyone should read at least one Hemingway in their life. Most don’t, but occasionally I hear that one has.
I had forgotten about the Hornblower books, only ever heard about them. Not read them.
The Aubrey/Maturin series is great.
After I saw Master and Commander I decided to read the book it was based on and I thought to myself that there was no way I was going to read all 21 books.
After I finished the first one, I then read 21 books.
That’s awesome Ron.
I’ll probably drink some old fashioneds tonight.
My favorite whisky:Uncle Nearest
With Angastora bitters and simple syrup.
So good.
That distillery may be in some trouble…

That sucks, it is such a smooth whiskey.
There is a high probability that a Steam Machine will find it’s way into my home.
You don’t own a teapot?
No, he wants to make sure that hat is properly cared for.
So, are you speculating that he doesn’t have a Teapot Dome?
I have an electric kettle. Everyone should have one.
Short and stout? (I just used mine today.)
I’ve had it for years. Hamilton Beach maybe.
It’ll depend on the price point for me. I’m seeing rumors of everything between $599 – $999. I’ve already got a Steam Deck and a Switch, and a Switch 2 is likely in my future at some point.
They’d sell a fuck ton at $599. At $999, I might reevaluate my *need*.
Speculation is base will be around $800 to $1000 depending on storage.
Same. Especially since my Windows machine bricked itself and I don’t want to buy another one just to play games on it.
But is the new predator movie any good?
I’m tempted to ditch the kids and go see it.
It’s PG-13, so you can take the kids.
Last movie I saw in the theater was Superman, prior to that was Dune part 1 and 2.
The boy is tender. He likes things that are not stressful. Hell some episodes of Micky Mouse clubhouse were too stressful and conflict filled for him. He’ll grow out of it, he’s a lot like me.
The critical drinker says no. I can’t link to the video, because it appears that our firewall is blocking him.
Labor enacted
video not available.
definitely blocked by the firewall
I will say yes it is. We watched it on IMAX on Wednesday. The story’s tight (and there is a story at all, which was a pleasant surprise) It has some funny parts, some good action beats, a few fun wink-nudge stuff towards ALIENS which wasn’t as overbearing as I’d feared. I’d say the main weakness is the CGI creature fights.
To address a few of the criticisms I’ve seen:
– yes, the lead Predator guy is not the Classic Predator look. That’s the story.
– PG-13 rating. If this film had any humans in it, it would be R.
– There’s a girl in it. She does fight a bit. But she’s the sidekick, not the lead (That’s the Predator)
– the cutesy creature. Is a bit much for half its time on screen, but it does play a pretty vital role. The movie needs something/someone in that slot for the story to work.
I’m not gonna say it’s a work of great art or anything, but it was enjoyable and I left not thinking I’d wasted my time. So make of that what you will.
From the Little Red Hen wiki:
In Elena Doria Winell’s operatic adaptation, on the other hand, the psychological weight of unrecognized labor takes a toll on the Hen and she, in a final mad scene, murders the other farm animals, chokes on the bread, and dies.
Now I want the version in which the other animals storm the henhouse, murder the hen and her children and triumphantly devour her ill gotten bread. Following that, they quarrel amongst themselves over the redistribution of the farm’s productive assets, which culminates in burning the place down. By the following winter they have resorted to sectarian murder and cannibalism.
Wolf seems keen to get more Roger Rabbit projects in the works now that he’s regained the rights, although he’s emphasized that he wants to uphold the standards that the 1988 flick set, stating: “Any sequels that we do have to at least match the quality of the original movie. In production value, in tone, in script content, in empathy, and in character development. It has to be as good, or better than, what we did before. That’s what the fans want, and I have promised the fans that’s what I’m going to give them.”
So… since we have modern audiences, “better than” will mean Jesssica Rabbit is a body positivity Tess Holiday look-alike?
I hope he means finding some old-school writers and animators.
I’m interested to see if he’s able to get the rights to any of the other characters to use in his movies.
“I’m not fat I’m just drawn this way!”
50/50 on having a penis.
“I’m not a woman. I was just assigned that at birth.”
Jaime wins. That right there? Damn solid. (So’s J̵e̵s̵s̵i̵c̵a̵ Jesse.)
Sydney Sweeney at Jessica Rabbit?
I would require treatment for friction burns…
I’d have to see that to believe it.
Eva — short for Elections Virtual Assistant — is Ohio’s first artificial intelligence election administration aide.
Needs to be more original.
Zankoku na Tenshi no Te-ze
My friend is a GA pilot and he loves Flight Simulator. He uses it to practice approaches to new airports.
That’s a good use for it.

Roger Rabbit Versus the Nazi Moonbase it is.
I’d watch that.
Thanksgiving being so late is throwing me off this year. My birthday is a week from Sunday, and Thanksgiving is 4 days later. Usually they are 1-2 days from each other. But I am looking forward to a Sting concert on my birthday.
Why didn’t it throw you off last year?
I guess you’re right. But last year I was on a hockey trip for my birthday, so I didn’t pay attention.
Can you fly like a 1920s barnstormer with that flight simulator? Through ramshackle old barns a stuff?
You kind of can. It’s designed to have a realistic physics and world as possible.
I only have the default aircraft, but I’m sure somebody sells an old biplane for it and/or an ultralight of some kind.
Roger Rabbit was a special movie.
It isn’t going to translate to the 2020s.
You can’t make this up. This makes Toyota seem like an aerospace player despite the Tundra debacle.
Jeep Is Recalling 112,859 SUVs That Might Have Sand in Their Engines
No remedy yet, but I hear from GM you can give them a free oil change and put thicker oil in the engine and call it good.
Local Jeep dealership is named Sands. Coincidence?
https://www.sandschryslerjeepdodge.net/
Sand? That’s supposed to be sawdust. This generation does everything wrong.
Years ago I rebuilt an engine and, despite cleaning and cleaning, managed to leave a pocket of grinding compound inside an oil passage. That engine ran for about 5 laps before going kablooey. If Jeep is sand casting their blocks but not cleaning them enough before assembly, well, I’d prefer to have blown up 1 rather than 112,859.
It’s amazing how much cleaning you can do and still have stuff be full of dirt. Or casting sand, or machining bits.
He revealed that the rights quietly reverted about a year ago and that his focus has already shifted to new projects, with one of his most advanced ideas centering around Jessica Rabbit: “The one that is most prominent… is a live-action Jessica Rabbit movie based on the book Jessica Rabbit: XERIOUS Business. That was the first project that we took a look at and the first we started developing. It’s probably the one that’s furthest along right now.”
That sounds horrible.
No real life woman can replace Jessica Rabbit.
One year, at Viva, during the Burlesque showcase, one of the girls did the Jessica Rabbit dance.
It was appreciated by many of us.
A movie full of furries.
No remedy yet, but I hear from GM you can give them a free oil change and put thicker oil in the engine and call it good.
First you replace the oil with acetone and drive it for two weeks to flush out the oil passages, then go to a 5W6 oil.
I’d rather watch that than Kansas City @ Denver. 🙄
No real life woman can replace Jessica Rabbit.
Not even Sydney Sweeney?
Use AI to add Kathleen Turner’s voice . . . . .
maybe
I love a Boulevardier so will have to try that variant.
For your standard Boulevardier, do you go equal parts, or heavier on the bourbon/rye?
Equal parts.
I keep meaning to make an Old Pal, since I prefer rye and have dry vermouth handy, but I always remember after the fact.
slumbrew:
I also prefer the equal parts. To me, that’s kind of the point of the drink, keep it simple and keep it balanced. Changing proportions like that takes you down the path of Martinis with no vermouth.
Agreed, the virtue of all those Negroni variants (as I think of them) is simplicity; 3 equal parts, stir, serve. Want a pitcher of them? No problem.
Jeep is still working on a remedy.
Just put a really really fine screen on the oil pickup.
Went to lunch in Helen, GA with my dad and his wife today.

“Such small portions!”
I wasn’t in the mood for beer (plus I was driving over the mountains), but I had a sip of my dad’s Paulaner. It was nice!
I’m pre-gaming, because for the first time in months, I actually feel a tiny speck of optimism.
Somebody may have did something
Iran seized a Marshall Islands-flagged oil tanker as it traveled through the narrow Strait of Hormuz on Friday, a U.S. official said, turning the ship into Iranian territorial waters in the first-such interdiction in months in the strategic waterway.
Iran did not acknowledge the seizure, though it comes as Tehran has been increasingly warning it can strike back after facing a 12-day war in June with Israel that saw the U.S. strike Iranian nuclear sites.
Boat? What boat?
I believe the US guarantees the Marshall Islands defense under the independence agreement, I expect bombs over this, assuming we have any bombers not tasked to blow up speedboats off Venezuela
The last month or so has been the fist time in years the US has not had a carrier in that area. I suspect there is one on the way.
Woah. I was really pissed when I heard of Roger Rabbit sequels. It’s certainly in my Top 10, just an insane curveball that still, and forever, will look and feel as gorgeous as it should. So ruining it with sequels is pointless and terrible and awful and shitty and pointless and stupid….
But back to the creator? I pretty much still feel the same, but if he can do with it whatever he please. I wish him well. If he tries to digitize, AI it to mirror current tech? It wouldn’t have the same effect, but I didn’t grow up with new tech. Hrm. I hope he goes for more than a paycheck, though if he needs one, I understand and still wish him well.
Just in case you were unaware, Who Framed Roger Rabbit was based on a book.
I *was* unaware. The plot is great and the historical semi-truth behind it all is a brilliant way to tie is all together. The film is simply perfect. No wasted line, nor shot. Christopher Lloyd and the Dip is fucking terrifying, but the way the movie used physical props with the animation was magical.
No studio has that sort of patience, or a large and diligent crew, to pull off what they did.
One of my earliest (first?) readers-turned-fan-turned-quasi-editor occasionally pokes me about what I’m working on and tries to get me out of my dry well because she likes what I come up with. I haven’t talked to her in a couple of years, but she pinged me on FB, said she was thinking about one of my books where I had outlined a whole philosophy that the black market/underground economies underpin all of society and have since before the beginning of commerce.
I asked her why she was thinking about that, and she said because she needs to find a black market right now, but doesn’t know how to. Well, me neither. I said I THINK where you start is finding people willing to barter.
This isn’t an unusual conversation I would have with one of my friends. However, THIS friend is a) Jewish, b) an L.A. native, and c) conservative.
Make of that what you will.
Moj is back!
What black market is she looking for? Is she still in LA? If there are other A and C around, then she’s halfway there.
I didn’t ask. It was FB and I don’t like saying too much on there.
Also, I haven’t been around much because I’ve got working coming out my ears, which is good.
Catching up now.
Reading comprehension: What is a Lord Chancellor? I dont need to look it up. He is a bureaucratic functionary whom, if they blinked out of existence this instant, no one would notice for years and even then only by mild curiosity brought on by idle thought. They might look in expecting to hear his pointless mumbling, not see it, shrug and walk away. That is ‘Lord Chancellor’. There are a million other nameless, faceless bureaucrats whose existence is null. The specifics of their title adds nothing to the world.
Thanks Charlie. Just reading that one passage has me contemplating having a shot.
TLDR. It would appear 10 years ago religious guy “vandalized” temples by anointing them with oil.
Japan wants him extradited to face up to 5 years.

Is anyone here familiar the the Kimber 1911 stainless gold match .45 acp? A friend recently lost his in a boating accident as has a question about the odd safety mechanism
Nice try fed.
Here’s a picture,
https://www.glibertarians.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/e0f487ce-336d-4fcd-bba9-9ae4183e996f-scaled.jpg
The safety is in th grip, squeeze and go, but what about racking the slide? It seems as if you would be live, so I experimented.
No ammo!
I grabbed the handle with my finger pulling on the trigger and it didnt budge. Relax and engage, click.
Question – Did you expect the hammer to fall when the slide came forward, or was the trigger preventing the slide from moving?
I was not able to replicate either on a Sig.
The grip safety on a 1911 blocks movement of the trigger. Nothing else.
The thumb safety blocks the sear from moving, and also prevents the slide from cycling.
Thats what I needed to hear, thats what happens wasnt sure if it was correct.

If anyone knows anyone who would like to take a cruise around Iceland in August of next year and can pony up 1/2 the room price (nice balcony midships!), send them my way. If they’re not weird. Or gross. The cost of the room would be in the $4000 range, plus whatever travel (the cruise leaves from and returns to Reykjavik)
Sorry. I’d be down, but I’m weird.
Anyone who recommends that chocolate rum cocktail thing ain’t that weird!
Anyway, I was on the verge of canceling the cruise, but after lunch with my dad, he indicated my Xmas present would be a nice eclipse cruise around Iceland, as long as I can find a roomie.
Seriously though – when would you need the cash by?
You’re weird within known parameters.
Plus you’ve already said the fursuit is too expensive to travel with on a whim.
Don’t you already have a reservation? I’d be more than happy to room together. The final payment is due in May. I can get you the exact date. I’ll need to let you know what my original planned roommate says. My gut says she’s going to back out, but she has first dibs. I sent her a message, so hope she replies soon.
No, I let my original reservation go for financial reasons + no roomie to split with, earlier this year. But $4k + airline res by May, that I can do. Put me down as interested if roomie #1 has to bail.
OMG YES!!!! I’ll let you know ASAP!
🎉🎉🎉🎉
*ahem*
I could make myself available.
There’s an eclipse and meteor shower involved, plus possible volcanoes and auroras. Not areolas. At least not mine.
