pretend this is a recap with all of your favorite links of the year.

No need to pretend, this post does, in fact, contain all of my favorite news links of 2025.

    • Muzzled Woodchipper

Hard agree. Unless the headline reads “Scores and scores of people going to jail for massive tax fraud schemes” it’s bad fucking news.

  2. Threedoor

Definitely all the madness that is Salon.

Have to be the best links there.

  3. The Late P Brooks

Can I pretend it’s my favorite ass slapping gif?

  4. creech

Does anyone else think that the Lefties losing their minds over Trump in 2025 was way overboard when measured against the disappointments many of us see in the Stupid Party and the buffoon in the White House failing to deliver on so many promises and opportunities? I fear we will be sitting here a year from now having been drowned by a Blue Wave and facing leadership of Speaker Jeffries. Will even a roaring economy and peace be able to stem the tide?

The way Trump can animate both his detractors and supporters has been boggling my goddamn mind since 2015 to be honest. I was never into Trump’s shtick back when he was just a gasbag real estate developer and TV game show celebrity, and there’s nothing about his policies one way or t’other that’s especially unique. It’s a testament to the power of mass media and herd psychology that people are willing to commit heinous acts of violence up to and including murder over what was considered reasonable “third way” politics in the late ’90s.

      • J. Frank Parnell

LOL nobody gives a fuck about stupid shit like policies, it’s feelz and vibez all the way down on both sides.

      • B.P.

I agree with all of this.

    • Sensei

      The left is overboard.

I expect team red to lose seats, but it is too early to tell if it will lose a majority.

      • creech

I’m due to have lunch next Tuesday with my old Tea Party friend “imbedded” in the county GOP leadership. I’ll ask him what the RNC thinks will happen in mid-terms.

      • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

Is he the one who said Trump was going to lose?

      • Sean

Does your friend want me to go fuck his wife while you two are at lunch? Or does he to watch?

      • slumbrew

        Savage.

      • DEG

I watched the interview Tucker Carlson did with Matt Gaetz.

        They talked about upcoming elections.

Gaetz thinks the Republicans will lose the House. He thinks Democrats will do what they do best, beclown themselves, which would lead to Vance being elected president in 2028.

Earlier today I poked around Polymarket. Odds are roughly 80% that Democrats will take the House, and roughly 65% that Republicans will keep the Senate. We’ll see how those odds change over the course of the next 11 months.

    • rhywun

Will even a roaring economy and peace be able to stem the tide?

      lol Of course not.

      • Drake

Aren’t all the red states gerrymandering (redistricting) their districts?

Will it be enough to keep the Republicans in control so Mike Johnson can keep doing… whatever it is he does.

      • DEG

The Indiana legislature shot down redistricting.

    • Ownbestenemy

Who knows….normal political guesses are out the window for a decade now

  5. Pat

Apropos of little, Christmas eve, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and New Year’s Day all fell/fall on my regularly scheduled days off this year. Liquor before wine, you’re doing fine is still the rule when one is planning a solitary celebration with Four Roses 2025 Limited Edition and a semi-respectable bottle of California Chandon bubbly, yes?

    • Nephilium

Drink whichever way you want, it’ll be based on the congeners present and how you process them. Ethanol is ethanol is ethanol.

      • Akira

I try to tell people this and they just don’t believe it.

The other thing is that different kinds of alcohol get you different kinds of drunk, e.g. “I can’t drink tequila; it makes me violent”.

      • Threedoor

There is something to be dead about secondary compounds added sugars and hangovers. But yeah. I’ve never noticed any difference between order or imbibing.

      • Nephilium

        Akira:

        This may help.

    • rhywun

Beer before liquor, never sicker is the law that I am familiar with.

      • Chafed

        Poppy cock!

      • Ted S.

Am I getting a Clint Eastwood narrowed gaze, or the Orson Welles applause?

    • EvilSheldon

Four Roses bourbon is always a good choice. The 100-proof single barrel is my usual bourbon around the house.

      • Pat

The single barrel was my intended purchase when I bought the 2025 Limited, but the liquor store guy, knowing my taste, pulled that one out from behind the counter and I said hell with it, I’ll just drop $290 on the most expensive bottle of booze I’ve ever purchased…

It’s good. It’s better than the single barrel. But not enough better to justify paying 4.5x the price again. The emptied bottle will make a nice ornament for the bar I’ll get around to actually building one day.

    Oops

Grammy-winning singer Chappell Roan has backtracked on her praise for Brigitte Bardot after learning about the late French film icon’s “very disappointing” far-right political beliefs.

“Holy (expletive) i did not know all that insane (expletive) Ms. Bardot stood for,” Roan wrote Monday in a post on her Instagram Stories.

    ——-

After Bardot died on Sunday, Roan initially paid her respects on Instagram. “Rest in peace Ms. Bardot,” the singer wrote. “She was my inspiration for red wine supernova.”

She wolf of the SS, Brigitte Bardot.

    • EvilSheldon

      ‘Insane’…

      What a tool.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

      Chappell Roan?

I did not know he bred horses.

    • Threedoor

      More laws for animal “abuse.”
      Totes right wing.

    • B.P.

Oh no! My apologies! I didn’t mean to accidentally praise someone who said something outside of the Approved Narrative.

    • rhywun

      This is “news”.

      OK, then.

    • ZWAK, doktor of BRAIN SCIENCE!

      Darn that Rock and Roll!

    • Ownbestenemy

This viral term refers to being more physically attractive than other people, and it’s part of the larger trend of looksmaxxing, or doing everything in your control to improve your appearance.

Kid wants to eye fuck his preferred candidate basically.

      • EvilSheldon

Every single person I’ve ever seen who’s into ‘looksmaxxing’ is about as attractive as a plastic Ken doll.

      • Ownbestenemy

Mog or mogging is derivted from AMOG or “alpha male of the group”

Bwahahahahahhaha, yep Newsome is at the top of that.

    • slumbrew

I am now dumber for having clicked on that.

    • Chafed

I’m praying the rest of the nation’s voters are not as dumb as California voters.

    • rhywun

To be fair, he’s probably right.

Greasy is straight out of a presidential test tube.

      Meanwhile, Vance has a beard.

  7. Spudalicious

Who’s the dumbass who didn’t cover Mexi’s Links today?!? Shit. That would be me.

    • Pat

If this kind of thing continues we’re going to have to cut your salary.

      • juris imprudent

His next annual review could always be with STEVE SMITH.

      • Spudalicious

        That’s just mean.

  8. The Late P Brooks

    Blast from the past

Peak power comes at 5500 rpm, encouraging you to chase that figure gear after gear. In my experience, there was little point in pushing much beyond that, however. Shifting at higher revs also had the sound of unburned fuel igniting on the overrun. Despite its diminutive size and limited horsepower, there’s more character in this GTI’s 1.8 liters than in most of today’s performance-car engines. It’s simple and glorious.

Twisty roads bring more analog magic. Volkswagen skipped power-assisted steering for the Mk 1, although it was offered with GTIs in other parts of the world. It doesn’t need it, with the front end delivering impressive accuracy alongside rich feedback. The strong-willed and communicative brake pedal also makes it easy to gauge effort, and retardation felt strong even with the small drums on the back axle. Much of this comes because the Mk 1 tips the scales at just over 2000 pounds, nearly 1300 pounds lighter than the current GTI. The result is an undiluted machine that combines driving pleasure with simplicity. And this pocket-size dynamic benchmark cost just $7990 back when it was new, equivalent to just under $25,000 in 2025 scratch.

    I want one.

    • Sensei

Same thing with the Hondas of the 80s and 90s.

Still annoyed I didn’t pickup the last Integra. Wound up with an RX8 on a lease deal.

Fun, but happy not to be a long term rotary owner. Integra would be a much better keeper.

      • Tres Cool

        Damn oil seals.

      • Threedoor

Too much labor to harvest self for the oil. Whales are fare more efficient.

  9. The Late P Brooks

nobody gives a fuck about stupid shit like policies, it’s feelz and vibez all the way down on both sides.

By George, I think he’s got it.

    A new world awaits

If there’s one theme that will quietly dominate CES 2026, it’s the continued shift toward software-defined vehicles. This isn’t new, but it is becoming unavoidable. Automakers are less interested in showing off the vehicles themselves and more focused on proving their cars can evolve after they leave the factory.

That means operating systems, over-the-air updates, and modular software stacks will be everywhere. Companies like P3 are using CES to highlight Android Automotive — based platforms that let automakers roll out features, apps, and services long after a vehicle ships. For consumers, this could mean improved infotainment and enhanced features over time. For automakers, it’s about speed, flexibility, and, ultimately, new revenue streams.

The bigger shift is toward “agentic AI.” For reference, these are AI systems that actively make decisions on behalf of the user, rather than just responding to commands.

Just wait for that morning when your car’s operating system has had a complete reboot and you no longer have any idea how it works.

    • Pat

If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

      Robert Cringely, accidental prophet.

  12. Tres Cool

I’ve taken the precautionary measure of duct tape and sitting down to hold the drugs in just in case its been posted:

Dave Barry’s The Year in Review.

      • kinnath

        SEPTEMBER

…when conservative activist Charlie Kirk is assassinated while speaking at Utah Valley University. Everyone agrees this is wrong.

I am of course joking. This is 2025, so a disturbing number of Americans think it’s OK to murder someone for expressing the wrong political views. Maybe you can find some humor in this.

A rare straight comment from Dave.

      • Muzzled Woodchipper

I just quit a YouTuber I’ve followed for a while. He’s a hard lefty, and I was willing to look past his economic and cultural ignorance because his content was compelling.

But he just did a year in review during which he showed his ass on Charlie Kirk, while also complaining about not getting views. The aside was so fucking odious.

    • creech

How did he get through the year without mentioning AOC at all, or Sweeney’s titties, or any other celebrity that incels think they have a chance at boinking if they’d only come to their basements?

      • Tres Cool

Didn’t Melissa Etheridge do that song? “Come to my Basement”

  13. Tres Cool

    Akira?

Know why Hitler didn’t drink liquor?

    It made him mean.

    • Akira

Haha, well I’m glad he stayed off it then. Nobody likes a mean Hitler.

Although his book that I attempted to read certainly made it seem like he was drunk sometimes. No organization or logical flow of information whatsoever.

  14. Pash KKatel

I got another job rejection today after 2 interviews. 😭

I have an interview on Jan 16, which is my only remaining prospect at this time.

  15. Mojeaux

    With regard to my clock

    @UCS

That clock… that clock would drive me bonkers. I can read an analog clock without numbers, but I see equations and I try to solve them in my head. I get derailed solving the clock before I remember I just wanted to know it’s reading quarter to one.

    @Zwak

This. I would want to solve them, and then put the answer right next to them.

Why do you need to solve equations whose answers you already know? 😵‍💫

And I am HORRIFIED that not only did I NOT KNOW there was such a thing as a Peepsfest, I HAVEN’T known for the last 15 years!!!! 😤
